Quick cheap breakfast eats.  For the amount you pay at a fast food joint, you can get a fried chicken biscuit that's double the size and made to order.  $3.75 gets you a large fried chicken biscuit that's made out of real chicken, what a new concept!  I nixed the gravy and got it with cheddar cheese instead and then drizzled honey on top.  Delish.  Wash it down with a cup of hot coffee and you're ready to face your day on a satisfied stomach!

Not a fan.  Went there on Sunday after Church with a crowd of 8.  Wait service was nice but was terrible at taking our orders, delivering our orders and keeping our drinks filled.  When we ordered our drinks, they were delivered with the wrong order so it didn't start out very well.

It didn't improve much from there, sadly.  BBQ pork was a tad dry and overly smoky.  It was as if they infused liquid smoke into the BBQ.  Sauce had a good flavor but my BBQ was dry and burnt and was masked with  the sauce.

The others at the table did not have good things to say about their food either.  Once the food was delivered, we had to re-ask for multiple sides that we ordered and needed sides exchanged for the correct sides ordered.

I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because they sat us quickly and were polite.

We won't be going back, unfortunately, because we do not live too far from this restaurant.  Im still hunting for the go-to BBQ place.

    THE PLACE:
It is definitely what you expect from a bbq restaurant. The seats and tables are all worn down and the pictures on the wall is probably just as old as the photos of old coutnry houses that it has. Kitchen is not seperated from the dining area so it is smoky and you will smell like old hickory. The patrons are just as old as the place.

    THE FOOD:
Mediocre at best. People rave about the sauce being so good, but honestly, Williams Bros BBQ sauce is way better than this. The cole slaw --- yeesh, skip that. KFC cole slaw is better. There was hardly any taste to it and the cabbage was not chopped finely enough to avoid indegestion or cramping of the jaw from chewing too much. The fried okra... is well, fried okra. At least I got a fresh batch of that. Then.. the brunswick stew. Its also just ok. But once again, mediocre at best.

    THE SERVICE:
    Dammit. two stars. there.
We were seated by the cook. Our drinks were taken by some white dude, then our food was taken by a middle aged lady, then our food was served by some big black guy that obviously works the dishwasher in the back. No, seriously, he was the dishwasher. WTF? There were at least 4 servers, INCLUDING BOTH OF THE TWO SERVERS we had earlier, around my food so WHY OH WHY did the dishwasher guy, with all the glory of his dirty rags hanging on an apron and food-splashed black shoes, brought our food to us? WHY??

People that give this place 4 stars are mostly the ones that has some memories in here. I understand that. But if it is going to be your first time or if you do not have any affiliation with this place, please.. take your money somewhere else.

My mom and grandmother really enjoy the Old Hickory House.  It is not my favorite BBQ, but it is not a place I would avoid.  The dinning room is a bit dated and has some character of a typical BBQ restaurant with a log cabin feel.

    I order:

    -  Sliced BBQ pork sandwich
    -  Steak Fries
    -  Salad
    -  Sweet Tea

The sandwich is good.  Fries and salad are average.  Sweet tea is very good.  Sometime I need to go back and order something that doesn't start with an "S".

My husband and I met a friend here for brunch this past Sunday.  I have a little bit of a history with Old Hickory House because I worked there as a hostess back in 1994, when I was still in high school.  (Yes, I am aware that I am very old.  Hush.)

However, I can't speak for the quality of most of the food from back in the day because I was a vegetarian.  What I can tell you is that the inside of the building hasn't been remodeled since then.  And it looks like their menu has remained largely the same since the 90's, too.

The rundown appearance of the interior apparently does nothing to dissuade the locals from eating here.  Back when I worked there, there was ALWAYS a wait for a table on a Sunday morning.  This seems to be the case 17 years later.

I had the Barbecue Omelette.  It came with a biscuit and gravy, and I have to say the gravy was pretty delicious (the biscuit wasn't bad, either).  The omelette itself was decent but not fabulous - it seemed a little rubbery and overcooked.  The barbecue pork in it was tasty but I would have liked there to be more of it.  And the barbecue sauce served with it was tangy and pretty respectable if you like vinegary sauce.

My husband had the Country Fried Steak Platter and he said that it was pretty good, but he preferred the country fried steak at Folks.

To be fair, our server was super fast and very friendly.  I'd eat here again if I were in the area and there wasn't a huge wait.  But I have no idea what all these crazy people are doing crowding up the front room when there have got to be a million other brunch options near Dunwoody.

I like OHH. So much so that we go here after church about 2x/month. I get breakfast every time. Scrambled egg platter with bacon, potatoes & biscuits. I really do like their biscuits & have to really restrain myself to eat just one of them. I always want 2. And these aren't small biscuits, people. My hubby always gets the pancakes b/c they're literally as big as his plate & our boys like to share with him.

Haven't had their non-breakfast food in a long, long time but I know that I've always considered their brunswick stew to be one of my favs.

Place stays packed on weekends until at least 1:30. So be prepared to wait if you hit them at the wrong time. Every now & then we get a server who acts uninterested in their job, but for the most part service is fine.

I'll keep eating there as long as they keep making breakfast!!

Old Hickory House came highly recommended to us for breakfast by some locals at the hotel where my husband stays for business. I was in town to visit my hubby and we wanted a good southern breakfast.

OHH is a popular place for breakfast - we just beat the crowd, so were seated immediately. My hubby is a southern boy - so he loves his big breakfasts! We had eggs, country ham (him), sausage (me), biscuits, country gravy and grits.

Let's see - the gravy was good, really a sausage gravy with nice bits of meat throughout. Hubby was hoping for more of a sawmill gravy without the meat, but the flavor was spot on. Eggs were just barely cooked enough - very soft scramble, but ok.  Biscuits - hmmm. I just don't know. Everything I've seen about this place says how great the biscuits are. Maybe we had a bad batch? They were rather flat and had tough, crusty edges. Not crispy like butter would make them, but old/tough like we had gotten the last of the first batch of the day??

Meats were good, nothing outstanding. Service was impressive - constant refills on coffee and possibly the manager checking on us.

One huge quibble - instead of real butter for the grits, it was margarine. UGH. it didn't melt - just kind of sat there on top.

Prices were fair - our breakfast for 2 came to $17 not incl tip.

As we were leaving at 9:30am on a Saturday - the place was full to overflowing so get there early! They were also doing a great business at the takeout counter.

Funny, I have been calling this The Hickory Pit and didn't realize that the name is actually Old Hickory House until I was ready to write this review. Today was my fist visit here and lets just say that I think Hickory Pit is a far more appropriate name for it.

I'm surprised to learn that this is not a Mom and Pops diner. The place looks nice on the outside, but the inside is very old, tired and haggard. An atmosphere that was only enhanced by the patrons that were waiting patiently to be seated. I guess this is what one should expect at a truly good BBQ restaurant. Too bad, OHH did not necessarily deliver in that area.

While waiting, I tried to ignore the atmosphere and just focus on the delicious aroma of Hickory, which by the way, managed to follow me home, in my clothes and my hair. I guess I should not complain, though, as I was forewarned by other Yelpers and the permeation of Hickory was not a surprise.

The food was fine. Nothing spectacular, but on the same token, nothing to complain about, either. I had the Baby Back Ribs, which had a spattering of sauce over the dry rub. The ribs were a little on the dry side, but the smokey flavor was nice. I was thankful for that, as the sauce that was served in a dish on the side was not to my liking. I am sure it is just a personal preference, as I am aware that KC style is quite popular. The sauce just seemed to be too much tang and had a strong flavor of tomato and onion.

The ribs included two sides and I chose baked beans and a salad. The beans had good flavor, but I did not like that they had kidney beans mixed into the baked beans.

Overall, the food was OK, but just OK food mixed with the dingy, rundown atmosphere is not going to get a return visit from me.

Look, if you ever walk into a BBQ joint and are impressed by the ambiance, do yourself a favor and get the heck out of there.  Good BBQ places all have the same, standard ambiance -- none.  Old Hickory House is no exception.  The pork sandwich is excellent as well as the sweet tea.

One word of warning though, there are onions in the sauce.  It was no problem for me, but I friend I went with spent quite a bit of time scraping onions off of his sandwich.

You know, there arent bells and whistles here.... its more like your old country mom and pop sort of place to eat., the kind of place where your Aunt Fanny and Uncle Jo Bob on nights when they dont feel like cooking...no imagess to keep up....and I like it that way.

The breakfast here is great! It's true country cooking...mmmm...great bbq, excellent country breakfast....sorta like how your grammy made it....greasy and delicious, just like southern food should be.

    My mouth is watering already.

When you leave, you will smell like the BBQ you eat - but it will be worth it. The pork is great. The ribs are even better (and they don't need any sauce to make you lick your lips). If you have a sweet tooth, their homemade cobbler and banana pudding will remind you of your Granny's.

If you want an affordable, old-fashioned breakfast, then Hickory House is a good choice (although I still do not understand the notion of a BBQ omelet). Their pancakes remind me of my childhood.

This restaurant is not what you'd expect to find in the true heart of Dunwoody near the intersections of Chamblee Dunwoody and Mt. Vernon Roads.  It seems as though it's a relic from the past but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.  It's very casual indeed.  I would describe it as a wear-what-you-want and hey-you-don't-even-have-to-shave place.

As the name implies, they cook using real wood, so be prepared to smell a little smoky, but at least it's not from cigarettes.  They have a great selection of barbecue:  pork (sliced or shredded), beef, and half chickens.  You can choose really inexpensive sandwich type meals or go with the entrees and choose some veggie sides.  They have quite a selection of Southern vegetables.  Entrees come with large pieces of very buttered & toasted bread.  Oh, and in case you want something on the lighter side, they have an excellent entree salad with your choice of meat.

Service is incredibly fast and this place is oh-so-excellent for kids.  The decor is a little worn, but at the prices and service offered, you won't be offended.  Given the other higher price places nearby in Dunwoody, this is a dying breed that needs all of our support!

The food at Old Hickory House is okay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. It's just nothing special. When I'm in the area, and I'm hungry, it's a decent place to eat. There just isn't a whole lot to say about a three-star "A-OK" establishment. Service was friendly; the food just isn't anything to write home to Mom about.

Solid southern cooking that is hard to pass when you smell the hickory smoke as you drive down Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. The pork is excellent, even though I generally prefer pulled over the sliced they offer. The ribs are good if a little fatty. I would pass on the beef.

I would call the Pit Beans a necessary side. The mix of beans for a varied texture in this flavorful baked bean dish works really nice. I have never made it to dessert, as I've never had room.

I love the Old Hickory House breakfast. Yes, it appears a tad dirty. Yes, the waitresses are usually less than thrilled to have you at their table but it's such a nice little, unpretentious haven in the middle of Dunwoody. The biscuits are great, the pancakes are great, omelettes=fantastic. I can't recall a bad time at the OHH. If I had one, it cost me no more than 8 bucks so I've already forgotten about it.

You want to eat here. You want the sliced pork sandwich with pickles and BBQ sauce. You want a bottomless glass of sweet tea. You want a nice, southern waitress to take your order. You want a drive-thru option. You want to sit at the counter and smell the meat cooking behind the counter. You want to watch the action. Or maybe that's just what I want.

    SUCK-DEE'D, SUCK, SUCK, SUCK!!!!!

Did you notice the capital letters? did I type enough exclamation points after it? Too bad you can't hear the disgust & sadness in my voice. Old Hickory House use to be one of my favorite spots to eat breakfast when I work at HP off of Ashford Dunwoody.  It was my go to for a good hardy southern style food. Since we were driving past this area and needed someplace to stop for brunch this old favorite popped into my head.  The exterior and interior still looked like I remembered. A quaint old style log cabin.  It wasn't too busy inside we had just missed the breakfast rush but from the looks of the parking lot outside it looked like it was jammed inside.  It's seat yourself and we found a table right away, this is where our little story takes a detour down a bad street. We really didn't see our waitress but for a few times so drinks went without refilling and just general checking on the table went by the wayside. The waitress took the order for 3 people but when the food finally came out we only had food for 2 people & one of those orders was wrong.  It took another 20 minutes for the kid's pancakes to come out (does it really take that long to make pancakes? All the food was cold, the waitress sucked and the couple next to us was truly, truly weird.  All I can say is WOW this place has really fallen.

Old Hickory House will remind you of your grandmother - the cooking isn't that much different than her cooking, and this place is probably as old as she is.
This was one of the first places I tried when my family moved to Dunwoody about fifteen years ago (probably because nothing else was around), and honestly, I haven't been there since.  However, the waitresses here were the first to introduce me to the classic southern comfort breakfast food - grits. I remember loading them up with strawberry jelly to give them a sweet flavor. Later, I learned that cheese is a better topping to compliment those buttery mushy grains. Sometimes when I drive past this red wooden house on the side of Chamblee-Dunwoody Road, I smell the hickory smoke rising from their kitchen vent; it swallows most of the village. Everyone is tempted to go in and try one a hickory chick BBQ platter with the special OHH sauce and a side of turnip greens and sweet potato souffl, but no one ever does. It's almost like everyone that lives in Dunwoody tries this place once or twice, but have since moved onto the healthier breakfast place down the street or a restaurant by Perimeter mall.

I've been coming here for breakfast for years! It's the standard good ole' southern breakfast. Today I wasn't in the mood for breakfast, so I got the pork sandwich and 2 sides for $6.95. You can't beat that!  I got baked beans and brunswick stew for my sides.  The beans had lemon peel and kidney beans in it, which I wasn't fond of.  Although, I loved the stew!  I wish we were there a little later, bc all the southern homemade veggies weren't ready yet and neither was the banana pudding.  They said it is ready after 2 for the dinner crowd.

Went here for the first time on a saturday for brunch at my bf's suggestion. He has previously eaten here in the past. I was not impressed. From the start, the waitress barely spoke english, she took our order and only  brought two orders instead of the three we ordered. Mine was completely wrong they had to take it back, brought out the correct order...and yes we are still waiting for the third plate we ordered.  The waitress went over to another table that was sitting right next to us and took there order and went back to the kitchen. What could we have ordered that took so long...a kid's Mickey Mouse pancakes. Once we finally got the waitresses attention, she said she didn't hear us order the kids plate. In what world would a grown 6'2 man and 11 year old boy share one plate of food?! So we get all our food and don't see our waitress again. And my son said the pancakes weren't even good. Now let's talk about the locals...I never knew Dunwoody was so old, white, and country. The couple at the table next to us texted and played games or something the whole time only speaking to each other when they first sat down, and before they left. When they did talk it was about video games, they were kind of weird. I don't think I will be back here, plus I don't like the smell of hickory or smoked food.

This is a great place for breakfast, and I always get the country ham usually with eggs and hash browns. Service is ALWAYS good and prompt, and the staff is polite and attentive. Marsia (I'm not sure of correct spelling) is the head waitress, and she is a sweetheart. The bbq is delicious, particularly the pulled pork. Atmosphere is down home casual - very comfortable, which goes perfect with the food. Always a good experience!
