I use to go to lunch here a lot when I worked at Paint Branch High School. Everything was pretty good but definitely not a stand out "OMG you have to go here" place. Then again, Burtonsville is pretty small and there aren't many options. Most of the people who work there either still go or went to Paint Branch at some point.
Old Hickory Grill, eh? Well, yes, they do grill their food (think cheese steaks not grill marks) and the combination of the decor and the strip mall it's located in does give the feeling of old, but there was no hickory to be found. Maybe the seats and tables are made of hickory. Is that a fair judgment? Well, I am a BBQ enthusiast, so whenever I hear the name of a tree, such as cherry or apple, I think, "Mmmmm...I wonder how cherry wood smoked ribs would taste?" So there is that bias. But for you casual diner, when you order an applewood salmon, you generally expect it to A) be cooked on applewood or B) have an applewood flavoring added to it.
Based on the name, I thought we'd find some decent BBQ so of course I ordered the ribs. The BBQ sauce was bland, the ribs weren't tender or flavorful, and there wasn't a hint of hickory flavor. My wife ordered a non-memorable chicken dish as evidenced by my inability to remember any details about it other than the fact that it was chicken. Her dish was pretty good but as Jackie R. notes below, it's not an "OMG you have to go here place."

Absolutely a great place for casual dining. Superb cajun, sandwiches, pork chops, etc. and they pour generous cocktails! Service is (almost) always good, prices are very reasonable, and Alki is just plain fun! A gem of a place hidden in a strip shopping center next to a gun store and tire place! Who would have thought? Another great find!
