...The starting three holes are an absolute joy to take in, as well as to play. The first and second are similar par fours that can both play driver wedge from almost any tee box you are playing, although both require accurate shots off tee as there is water on the right and forest on the left. The third hole is one of my favorite par 5's i've played, as it has a truly unique approach and multiple different ways you can play the hole. The green is reachable with two perfect shots although there are massive bunkers awaiting any misstep in front of the green,... -

I play in this golf course twice a month because is so close to home and at this moment I am extremely disappointed. Last spring (2011) the golf course was in excellent condition, however, now (fall 2011) the golf course is in bad shape. The surrounding areas around the tees and the greens are horrible. You can find multiple areas with no grass and a lot of dead weed and some bunkers are as bad as it can get. However, I have to say that the fairways and green are kept really nice and fast!!!!!. I don't know what happened to the administration but I hope they fix this ASAP.

*4 1/2 stars* This par-72, 7,190-yard championship layout is the sister course to Raspberry Falls in Leesburg. It's well-kept and has extremely fast greens. What puts it 1/2 star above some of the other courses is that the design forces you to use every club in the bag and make every kind of shot during your round, rather than just driving and using your wedge all day long.
Notable holes:
- #9 is a 476 yd par 4 from the tips
- #18 is a 630 yd monster of a par 5
The clubhouse has good food and free coffee. They have a banquet room for weddings, for anyone out there who's planning. One minor con is their driving range. it's netted, and they used to have a no wood policy (which may or may not have been lifted by now). If you're a golfer who needs a good practice range before your round, keep this in mind.
Tip: Save money by visiting http://www.gogogolf.ne... before your round!Listed in: GOLF

BORING Boring boring
Thats how I would descibe this layout. Its a shame that they spend all that money maintaining a boring course in such great condition. I find rounds to be slow. I find management to be less than attentive to fixing the problem, which is surprising for the Raspberry management group.
The clubhouse is impresive. Its big and fully featured like a top end private club. The range is pitifully small. You can't hit drivers or fairways woods on the range, because its only about 220 yds long. -

*** my only hole in one! ***
old hick is one of my favorite virginia courses just because of the asthetics. it's so nice that i look forward to getting my butt kicked here every year. old hick is like the hot chic you finally get a date with but she ends up body slammin you all night.
it decievingly starts innocently enough with the first 2 holes as a short par 4. but they still call for your undivided attention because of trees, bunkers, and drop offs to the side of the fairway, can start you off on a bad foot. after the 'easy' holes, it gets pretty hairy.
par 4's - your driver better be dead on balls accurate or else you'll be rummagin through the woods (a great way to find new pro v's), or praying it doesnt hit one of the many $5 million homes that are separated by 3 feet from each other.
par 3's - my ace was on the shortest hole, the others are like 220's from the back t's.
par 5's - dont even think about goin for the green on 2. first of all, you'll have carries off the t that question your man hood. secondly, assuming you found the fairway, take several clubs to your ball to determine where the safest lay up should be. and last, if you dont hit the elevated greens, hope to avoid a double bogey from the traps or blind uphill chips.
note; #18 is a whopping 626 yd par 6 with a tough carry, and a tight landing spot. to make things a bit more complicated, there is no such thing as a par 6... its still a par 5!
my advice; dont keep score - or it'll be a long drive home. just play skins and be prepared for a double bogey to win some holes. this is a course with a slope/rating of 142/74.4, so dont get too discouraged.
the staff: a bit stuffy. the boys are good about gettin your bags. the starter has the typical 'im god here' attitude. as for the counter, not really the generous type. i had a card where if i play raspberry falls, cannon ridge, and old hick, i get a free round at one of the courses. but, because i had t time with a special, the lady wouldnt punch my card. i said, "look lady, i had to leave my home in md at 5 am, fight traffic on the capitol beltway and 95, and cant practice my driver - and you cant give me a hole on this card?". she gave it to me with a wry smile. the power of charm...
the food: very classy joint, but after my rounds i was never in the mood to eat.
a beautiful course that really challenges your nerves. but, some holes are just ridiculous. its still a lot of fun though. i would definitely go back.
