I love OCB..aka...Hometown Buffet on the West Coast. I think their fried chicken is some of the best I've had and I always save room for dessert. I don't remember the last place I could find good old-fashioned bread pudding. My favorite item is the meatloaf. It is almost like my mom made and I wish they'd serve it daily. Real mashed potatoes and several veggie offerings make me a happy camper. And I like the fact almost every salad topping one could think of is offered. The entree's change daily and include said meatloaf, chicken ala king, salisbury steak, spaghetti...just to name a few. The dinner menu also adds carved turkey and ham and as of late...steak, which is just okay. Tastes good, but it's a bit tough. Of course the obligatory mac and cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers and fries are available...makes the kiddies happy.
I think what I like the most about this restaurant is even if you're watching your diet you can find plenty to eat here that is fresh and delicious. And healthy.
I voted no for waiter service but you do see waitstaff bustling around removing plates and cleaning up. I always use the $1.00 per person rule of thumb for tipping at a self-service place like this and they earn it.
I have eaten here a few times and have never had any reason to complain about the food. Everything has always been good. Salads are always fresh and desserts are always presented nicely. Many types of entree's to choose from also. Dishes have always been removed before I returned with my dessert.
Now that they've raised their prices, they are cost-wise about on par with Golden Corral. Given that, Golden Corral is the FAR better choice. The food at OCB is significantly more limited in selection, freshness and quality. This used to be a 'poor man's Golden Corral', but now that the cost is about the same there's really no reason to go here. Wouldn't surprise me if this place closed up within a year or so.
i just dont care for this place..the choices are so limited and sometimes it just sits there so long it looks gross..ugh!I have never had a good experiance here...and dont plan on returning.
