3 reviews for Old Chicago
Good food but the price for beer is just stupid. They are currently charging $6.50 for an 8 oz. Goose Island Matilda. That is a dollar more than Goose Island (in Chicago) charges and they serve it in a 10 oz. glass. You can also buy it in a 4 pack for 10 dollars at the grocery store across the parking lot. That is not the only overpriced beer, but a place that prides itself on a worldwide beer tour they should really look into prices the consumer can afford. I rarely go because of the ridiculous prices for food and beer.
Sure, the food has probably been frozen for months before it is reheated and served hot at your table, but going to any chain restaurant pretty much promises this same result so that shouldn't be the defining piece of this place. Said food still manages to be a bit greasy, which is not a good thing. They did have good fries (I got them with the jerk powder because who can say no to the islands) and you can't be mad at a beer list with 110 options. When I was there tonight it was customer appreciation night, meaning $1 pints of BL and such, which is a pleasant surprise if I've ever seen one. I'll probably go back because I want that beers of the world t-shirt and I'm only 51 beers away, but don't go to this place expecting something unique or special aside from a slightly pricey but comprehensive beer selection.
They serve Anchor Steam! My favorite beer ever! All the way out in Rockford, IL! That right there guarantees them at least three stars in my book. Their food was also pretty decent, though not really anything special. I'd eat here again, but I'd be going mostly for the little taste of home (San Francisco).
