2 reviews for Old Baldy Brewing Co
I spent one VERY VERY VERY LONG night here when my friend's band played at the Wire. The Wire doesn't serve booze, so we spent most of the night here as this was the only place open besides Subway.
The drinks were reasonably priced, the weird old games were fun, and there were enough places to sit that I can't complain. They don't have a huge selection of booze. This is the first place I have ever been served a Smirinoff Ice in public. Some weird, horrible, punk, goth, musically-challenged band was playing in the front room. Added to the charm of this place.
It was a fun night and a cool bar to be stuck in. I would check it out if you are in Upland.
we went to this place because, upon our first performance, we found out that The Wire had no alcohol. i was also famished. we asked the guy at the wire where we could get a burger, and he told us here. coincidentally, Old Baldy seemed to be the only food/bar place open along the streets at this part of town except for Subway.
the decor is very dive-ish. the walls looked like it's been torn into (as decoration). the first two times i was there, they still had old arcade games and a shuffleboard with sand that is too rough. last night, the games were gone.
the louder music starts around 8pm. three of the first songs they played last night was "pain" by 3 days grace, "run it" by chris brown, and "you don't know what love is" by the white stripes. very diverse. some nights they have loud live performances, but ... the performers didn't seem to be that good the one time i heard some.
i've ordered food here once. it's decent bar food, but the service can be a bit slow even if there's not many patrons.
so last night, i sat down at the bar to get a fat tire. the lady checked my DL and bent it quite hard. i don't like it when people bend my DL so much to check to see if it's real. i've seen bouncers break IDs that way. but all was better once i got my beer. full pint for $3.50, not something i was used to in LA. they have a pretty decent beer selection too! and i think on the menu they always have different seasonal beers. however, they didn't ask me if i wanted another beer for like 10 minutes after i finished my first beer. the bartender with the glasses eventually asked me.
on one of their white boards, they had a sign that says "$1 shooters". i asked the guy what was in a shooter, he told me it was all fake vodka, fake rum, fake gin, meaning they were wine based. i think that means that this place just has a wine/beer license, which is why their prices are lower.
their toilets, at least in the girls' bathroom, has a weird flushing mechanism. there a big wide disc that you push TOWARDS THE WALL in order to flush. it does require some force and i don't like to get my hands that close to the toilet area. i've never seen it anywhere else. why don't they just use the lever kind?
i had 2 fat tires and 2 diet cokes last nite. $9.50 pretip. not bad. i'd gladly come here again if there was nowhere else, but this is not a go-to spot for me.
