Excellent service. The employees were friendly, courteous, and helpful. I was impressed with the quick In and Out service. I am hard of hearing and I had to ask them to repeat things several times. They were very patient and respectful with reguards to that. The shop seemed clean and well maintained. Will definitely return to get my oil changed there again!
i took in my ancient nissan which was way overdue for an oil change. i was so uber impressed with this place. first of all, run by a woman! she explained everything as she went, was very careful. no waiting room (cold!) so i waited in my car. very clean shop. i would definitely go back again.
I'm a regular at the San Pablo ave. OC and I have had a good experience every time I visit this branch. Everyone seems to understand what their job entails, I don't feel that I'm being ripped off though it appears that they do push for upgrades and most likely are coerced into doing it by the company. I guess that's how the increase sales right? My car(s) always are taken care of and I know what upgrades to get and they seem to be very nice folks.
Thank you for the kind words, Unseelie S. I am the compliance officer for Oil Changer and can vouch for the strict regulations required to operate in the Bay Area (especially Berkeley!). What is better, many of our stores (including this one) is a certified Green Business. We are going through our re-certification procress right now. We greatly appreciate your business!
Fast. Fast fast fast.
Affordable! I am *so* cheap, but I *gasp* Added On Services Recommended.
Thorough: the checklist system is fantastic.
Easy! Pull in, drive-through-car-wash-style, and relinquish control.
I went in today because my 7 year old Saturn was making that slight watch-wind ticking sound that indicates low/low-quality lubrication. That's a BAD sound, folks. Also on twisty curves the oil light was flickering on. OOPS!
I got a full service oil change which basically meant sit-back and neaten the car's interior as the pros handled everything, for $36. They start the oil change with a siphon and while that's going on they touch, test and taste the other fluids in the engine. I got a free top-off on wiper fluid (prior "fill" had been me pouring in my gym bottle of water). I got a smear sheet that showed (and this was no news) that my power steering fluid was a shade painters call burnt umber. Not good. With everything going so smoothly, I opted for a $55 flush and change.. hey, the last time *I* tried to put power steering fluid in a car, I was also topping off the brake fluid and ACCIDENTS HAPPEN.
As the closing act they call out the closings and tightenings and fittings so that you know they've checked everything that was taken apart and you KNOW it has been put back together. They also run a lights & blinkers check. Totally awesome.
There are occasional coupons; I found a $7 off in the popular Entertainment Book.
Worth it. Totally and completely worth it. Especially in Berkeley - all the caustic nasty bad stuff that needs changing in a vehicle, knowing that these guys are under some pretty rigorous disposal guidelines is a good thing.

I had the complete opposite experience with Oil Changers compared to the first reviewer. I found them to be disorganized, incompetent, and untrustworthy. Even after pulling into the bay, I waited 30 minutes for them to get themselves organized before they even touched anything under my hood. It seemed like it was their first day on the job. Mostly a lot of standing around. They somehow miraculously found a couple hundred dollars worth of extra services that they tried to push. While it was great that they do extra checks, they only added air to the tires on the left side of my car and only wiped two of the windows. When they were done with my car, they had me pull out so that the next car could pull in but they didn't complete my transaction for another 30 minutes! Ridiculous. It's not so useful to have a car wash style setup if it means sitting in your car for well over an hour! They gave my bill to the wrong customer and then had to start over with their computer system. Then she rang up a bill for $3.64 instead of $36.40 and voided it... but didn't plan on giving me a copy of either receipt. I had to make her fish the crumpled up copies out of the trash. After I pulled away, I looked under my hood and found a vacuum house that they had failed to secure when they checked the air filter. It was just dangling there within an inch of the fan belt waiting to get severed.
I will NEVER go back there again. It seemed like they do much more harm than good. Mine was the epitome of a nightmare auto service experience...
