I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place and I've been there many times. The sushi is fresh and the staff very friendly.
They have HAND ROLLS!
They have SPAM Misubi!!!
They have LOCO MOCO!
I would choose to go to Ohana than Wasabi Bistro (which I think is a bit overrated) every time.
Pretty good!
Came here with some friends for some late night drinking and sushi. Overall I was averagely impressed. The venue is pretty nice inside, kind of a tropical, islandy feel. We were greeted very promptly and proceeded to order some Kirin beer and a couple rolls.
The sushi was pretty tasty, in my opinion about the same level as what I would get at Benihana or so. Not bad, but not amazing at the same time. At the end our tab was pretty pricey, but what else can you expect in Belltown...right?
I've ate here one time and it was good and the price was average for sushi, not cheap.
I used to drink here a lot and had a great time. I noticed good looking people here more than most places, guys and girls.
Its not big so expect a crowd, but I would recommend it.
LOVE MONDAY NIGHT HAPPY HOUR!!!!!
I go here for lunch regularly and Gorden is my server. He is efficient, fast and hilarious.
I have never had a bad experience or food at this place! LOVE the Rib Salad
While I've never had the food at Ohana, I can't say I especially want to. If you've ever been here on a Friday or Saturday night and see the immense amount of sloshed folks spit, vomit and do god knows what else I'm not sure you'd really want to either. Granted I've never been here during the day, or afternoon but it's so flippin' dirty in here I can't see how anyone could possibly get it clean enough for me to want to actually eat here.
So yeah, to sum it up so far I've never eaten here and don't plan on it. That said, I'll focus on the drinks and service. Since Ohana doesn't have cover I've found myself here several times. It can get crowded and steamy in here but for the most part I've enjoyed coming here since it's not quite as crowded as some other places and the bar service is pretty decent. Definitely not a favorite place, but it's okay.
I was here last night with some friends for a birthday and I guess I can say I've experienced Ohana on a quiet night. There weren't a whole lot of other people here so ordering a drink was no problem. The bartender was friendly and fast. This place was the ONLY place that gave the birthday boy a shot and in general, our bartender made sure we were taken care of. While he definitely gets an A+ service wise, drink wise was only so-so. Some of the drinks were winners, but others weren't mixed very well and one tasted like cough syrup. I've had worse, but I've definitely had better... but in the end, I guess I'm just happy we were taken care of so well.
The thing that really knocks off the stars was "last call". The bartender made sure we knew when last call was which was nice of him, but a few minutes after that their bouncer came through and basically told everyone to leave. We explained we were just finishing our drinks and were on our way, but he stood in front of us and told us we needed to stand up and walk to the door. Ummm.... okay. Thanks.
I have been coming to this bar for years now. They have the best happy hour food & drinks in all of Seattle! The Blue Hawaiians are my favorite! Tried a lava flow for the first time & really liked it as well. Getting hungry just writing this review & thinking about their food.
Great for groups, super fun & this place is always packed & full of hip people.
I am a big fan of Ohana, it has always been one of my favorite places in Seattle! I recently returned during my x-country adventure (http://KananAcrossAmer...) and not much has changed, much to my joy!
Reasons to love it: Cheap house sake (and lots of it), decent sushi rolls, and of course pretty servers! :) The DJ is also very good, sets an excellent environment for having a great time!
Do I use too many !s?
Drinks were good. They had a great selection of mixed drinks to choose from. Sushi was good, service was very good. We went on a friday night and sat at the sushi bar instead of waiting for a table. Prices were just slightly touristy, but what do you expect in the area... I would eat here again, for sure.
Weekday sushi lunch:
Long wait to be seated, even though business was slow
Very pleasant server
Nice patio seating
Great sushi
Decent prices (average for Seattle sushi)
The tiki bar atmosphere is fun
I would go back
I am a big fan of Ohana's I have been going there for over 5years and have had nothing but good times! The sushi is fantastic I highly recommend the 69 roll and the Toro if it is available. Also the adobo chicken wings are a winner. The happy hour is pure money you cant go wrong with cheap beer and $2 sushi come on!!!
I was a little disappointed in this place last night when I went for dinner. But then again, due to the mixed reviews, I didn't have high expectations either. I must have ordered the wrong dish... so I'm a little biased.
I ordered the loco moco with a POG juice. My friend ordered poke tuna and some fancy roll. The sushi that he ordered was quite tasty which was surprising because I usually don't trust the fish at these kind of restaurants. (As in, not specializing in sushi.)
The loco moco was not good. The only thing I liked about it was the rice because it was just the way I like my rice, harder, unlike sushi rice. But first of all, the meal came in a bowl which was weird. I'm used to eating loco mocos on plates. C'mon, it felt more like a oyakodon or something but with a hamburger patty. Yeah, the patty was so hard and slightly overcooked, in my opinion. The egg wasn't even overeasy. I usually love mixing the gravy and egg yolk together to eat with rice. But NO, it was fully cooked. Tsk tsk.
And the POG was straight-up Hawaiian Sun. I expected something more home-made coming from a "Hawaiian restaurant." But it's all good. Hawaiian Sun is ono-licious anyway! Ah, how I miss Hawaii.
Can't say I'll be coming back for their food... but maybe happy hour or drinks another time.
This was the first sushi place I ever went to in Seattle, and still one of my favorites. The fish is so fresh, it forces me to close my eyes when I chew so that my brain can focus on what's going on in my mouth, and take the resources that were alloted for my eyes.
I've never sat at the bar and not had another customer not recommend something, and I've never ordered something that wasn't fresh or perfect. I'm pretty sure the servers are all high, because they all smile, and don't stop smiling. Ever.
How not to pick a sushi place:
On a friend's suggestion, drive to Belltown to go to a restaurant that no longer exists, then decide "Okay, we're going to walk THAT WAY, and eat at the first Japanese place we see!"
One enters Ohana and is immediately perplexed by the Japanese / Tiki decor, accentuated by the jarring Red Bull umbrellas on the patio furniture.
Bad sign - no Japanese eating there.
My friend and I had contradictory menus with different beer and food selections on them. It was basically a coin toss to determine what types of beer were draft or bottled.
I ordered this sushi sampler thing, which I guess is their version of omakase. It was served on a giant wooden boat. That combined with the fact that I was 90% sure I'd end up with food poisoning, but actually didn't serve to get the place +1 star.
Umi is a block away. Go there.
4 visits til review ensues. It did not improve with more visits.
The happy hour visits would have been great if:
1. we had been served in a reasonable amount of time...just once.
2. the glasses/dishes had been clean, not crusty & greasy.
3. the drinks were more alcoholic than a tempted virgin.
4. our water had not stayed empty in 90 degree heat.
5. the sushi had more then a sliver of fish you could not taste.
The waitresses/waiters generally looked annoyed when we stopped their circular running, they appeared to be understaffed.
On one of the late night visits, they took our food away as we danced, mostly full platters of pupus, which we left for less than 3 minutes. 30 bucks down the drain. assholes.
Bathroom was dirty. Bartenders were REALLY fantastic at IGNORING you....until I utilized my friend with bigger breasts to make an order. lol
What's with the horrid mix of music I could basically partake of by blasting KUBE?
And the worst, especially if you are allergic - the direct line of smoke from the patio door, where no one obeys the distance rule, and they sure as hell wouldn't enforce it.
Auwe.
Awesome happy hour!!! THe food i mean. they have hand wraps... that are 3 dollars each, spam masubi which is also 3 dollars I think... and a few rolls around that price!!! and they are AWeSOME!!!
We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was friendly to us and promptly took our order and started to make our rolls b/c the waitress was taking a while busy with other customers.
The waitress was pretty good about splitting our checks at the end so it was a smooth quick dinner. :)
First time ever eating sushi and LOVED it! That being said I can't really compare it to other sushi places but since I didn't get sick and was craving sushi the next day - this place definitely deserves a high five. And to top it off they had green tea ice cream wrapped in pound cake and then dunked in tempura batter and deep fried. That alone should be worth a try!
Jarrell G. - Lilo and Stitch.
I feel the ohana at Ohana.
The Happy Hour is solid here. I could live on the Pilsner Urquell and spam musubi.
I see a lot of mixed reviews here and that's fine because that means more Spam for me!
I walked into this place thinking it was some Hawaiin/ Philipino bar.
The decor is mixed. As in Mixed with the wrong decor.
Someone who claimed to be the owner gave my gf and I each free double belvadere shots chilled with a twist. We saw the bartender pour this so we said fine. Who wants to waste good alcohol???
Maybe the people in here will seem more interesting once i get my drink on or maybe not.
As we were hanging out by the bar we were approached by one of their patrons who claimed to have tea weed if we wanted to get high. Thanks but no GHB for me tonight.) This guy had a boyish cute look like Brian Austin Green's best friend on 90210, but just rougher around the edges.
Another bar goer gave my friend a standing lap dance!
So to sum it up. Everything is free here.
So ladies if the economy is doing a number on your bank account. Maybe you can swing by here and enjoy the freebies. I'm not sure if I would come back next time I'm in town. But I had fun in a strange way.
On the way out...we saw a group of guys congregating by the front door and trying to dance like those crews from America's Best Dance Crew.
Except there was no audience.
The sushi is still yummy here! It's been awhile since I have visited and coincidentally I was starved last night. Everything was so delicious. Not sure if it was my hunger or if it was really smashing - my other mates devoured our dishes so I think it was smashing.
The Seaweed Salad, Crunchy Roll and 69 Roll are my favorites. All had just the right amount of tiny little details - tempura flakes, fish eggs, meat, rice, seaweed, crab, and damn it....I'm hungry again.

This place is unique. With Hawaiian motif and the promise of karoke, you almost forget it's a sushi… Read more »
Never again. I love hawaii and miss it so bad. I thought this would be the place to revive that for me! But nope.
I'm sorry but do they use poo sauce on the Poke? I want some REAL authentic Poke, and it was so bad I Couldn't even EAT it.
Decorations; UGLY.
Lighting; Ugly
Crowd; Ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mai Tai; so gross!
Ohana is a cool casual place to check out if you are in the Belltown neighborhood. It is one of the few "casual" places in the neighborhood and one of the better spots in my book. The menu is wide ranging with Hawaiian influences and have a good flavor profile. You definitely are not going to be wow'ed by the food but at the same time you won't be disappointed.
Drinks are good and prices are good. Happy hour prices are even better!
Not a place to bring on a first date or something to that effect as music is loud (club-like) and the crowds can get heavy in the evenings. Ambience is cool in a party-city takcy way, but it amazingly works. The place is clean and inviting. Cool place to check out before you hit up all the clubs in Belltown (believe me, prefunk here and you can save money and not blow your entire paycheck in one night!)
Ohana means family. Family means noobe gets left behind or forgotten.
10,000 points to the person that knows where that quote is from.
This little Hawaiian bar is decorated island style with lots of tiki hut decor, surf homage, and a sense of beach side. Lots of wood and lots of pictures. The bar is actually a small tiki hut. There was an island band playing the night I went and it helped set the mood.
I went here in a group of 9 during happy hour and had a lot of fun. The spam musubi was good as was the sushi. I haven't had a place that served spam musubi outside of Hawaii so I loved it as it took me back to the fun, sun, and surf. Everything was cheap; the drinks, food, drinks, drinks, and drinks.
Service at this bar was hit and miss. Sometimes they are very nice, very fast, very knowledgeable and other times they are rude, slow, and could car less. Guess that's island vibes as well.
Overall, it was a good place to come for a little taste of the islands in the middle of Seattle. The prices during happy hour are great but the service could use improvement. Try all the drinks and enjoy.
I have mixed feelings about Ohana. My girlfriend is crazy about the place, mostly because she thinks she's Hawaiian, but partly because the food is great (they have awesome spam musubi) and they have a good selection of tropical drinks. Their happy hour is good, although the menu doesn't change much.
But at night, in typical Belltown fashion, the place turns into a shit hole. The music is so loud you have to yell at your table-mates. Douchebags come out of the woodwork. It feels like a club.
Grab dinner, but get the hell out of Dodge before the nightlife starts.
This is a pretty cool place to chill. We came here last night for "bros night." I had two Sessions, some delicious beef and chicken skewers, and about five or six shots of sake.
I also like the layout of the place. So why only three stars? Because.
Zipzap Zubidy Bop1
Only been here for happy hour, drinks, or stopping by while in Belltown on the weekend.
The happy hour is decent, although $3 for a handroll isn't that great of a deal. The spam musubi also has about 2 lbs of rice. The sushi I had was decent, the servers were pretty nice and attentive.
They have Djs who play good music on the weekends, and the place has an overall good vibe.
I've never actually eaten here.
I have, however, had drinks here.
And I have to agree with Ryan V's review in that after a certain tick of the clock the Belltown types come out and ruin the place, making it turn into a sea of douchebags.
Perhaps maybe I'd feel differently if I'd eaten there, but I'll have to reserve that opinion for a later date.
i had this job once where they wanted us to feel a sense of family, and kinda forced it down our throats with dumb themes each busy season to help us feel more motivated. the one that pushed me over the edge and made me glad to quit and move west?
ohana.
so with that experience in the back pocket of my memory, my friends say "hey, let's get some sushi before the show at the croc". we go here. i look up. i see the name.
after the seizures induced by cheesy lilo and stich hawaiian themes and corporate america group team building exercise '99s (yes, i still have the teeshirt) memories, we went in and sat at a table and ordered up some food.
note: i still don't eat sushi. i keep trying it. and i keep saying "why did i try it."
but the grilled asparagus and beef was good.
some of the veggie rolls were good, too.
decent selection of beers. as the night went on, a dj came in and mixed some pretty crappy music.
but it was a random place to hit up before heading out in belltown. not my first option, but i enjoyed it nonetheless.
Ok - this place gets 1 start because simply they have lost my respect.
July 28 - Every year my friend has to come here for her birthday and has been for at least the past 5 years we've been friends. Its tradition. She loves the place - hates the food - likes the old staff - doesn't care for the new staff. i personally think they are all jerks.
July 28 2008 - 7ish we all meet for her birthday - about 20 of us. I get here a little early and decide to wait at the bar and start a tab. the party comes and we are seated....so i close the tab. This is for $17.60.
we eat, drink, and hang out.....i pay cash with the large party....its getting into the night and some people leave and go - so i go to the bar and start a new tab with a NICE brown haired jerk of a bartender. i ask for a MOJITO...he says - ok well you have to pay for it. OK. well duh - why wouldn't I? at the end of the night i close this tab....$26.82.
we all leave happy...full and buzzed....thats friday.
monday...i check my account to see that i was charged by OHANAS like this....
$26.82
$26.82
$17.60
$17.60
i call...no answer....call again...no manager....call again and get a women who is the "ACTING" manager for the night. "ACTING?!?! yeah...
i tell her what happend....and before i finished she says...is this from the 28th? i say yes. she says....its not our fault...its your banks....it happened to like 70 people that day. OK WELL LADY - if it happened to that many people....then OBVIOUSLY something is wrong.
i call the bank...tell them what happens....they say they are going to investigate....well its NOVEMBER. and how many months later - WAMU states that OHANA has provided proof that i signed for all of those transactions....
OK so i know its not that much money....but i mean its the fact it happened to myself and others!! and nothing is being done...
whatever. your food is not 'authentic' your bathrooms feel like a public park....and your staff is underpaid because they are very RUDE.
I wasn't sure what to expect while perusing the menu at Ohana. I went in expecting Hawaiian food but when looking through the menu I noticed it ranged from Hawaiian to Japanese to Filipino. I started to worry...perhaps it is the purist in me and how I do not really fancy fusion cuisine. Despite my hesitancy I went in trying to keep an open mind.
I tried the Curry...which is one of my favorite comfort foods. It had some good flavor but it didn't taste right. Like they used an off spice or something that isn't normally in traditional Japanese Curry. We also ordered the Lumpia Shanghai which my dining partner said didn't taste quite right either. The Adobo also had a coconut flavor that seemed misplaced since we had never had it in any other Filipino Adobo before.
One could say that Hawaii in itself these days is a melting pot of different Asian cultures...hence the mixed menu. I just feel that if you are going to serve dishes from a myriad of cultures they all better be spot on and not just OK.
And my last two cents on this place...yes people the Spam Musubi is good but honestly it is really easy to make on your own. Save your $5 and make 5 times as much by buying your own can and making a cup of rice.
I know that people can argue that there are better sushi places but this is by far one of my all time favorites. The "King and I" roll is amazing. Love the great happy hour specials and if your looking for great "meat on a stick" you'll get it here.
so happy i found this place! after wandering around the pier area, finding one overpriced-seafood-joint-with-a-view after another, i was sooo happy to have found Ohana. and we were lucky enough to have arrived just in time for their late night happy hour. the $3 appetizers + reasonable sushi menu made enough for a delicious, satisfying meal - tofu & veggie skewers, tuna roll, miso soup, and warm house sake. husband had the ahi tuna salad with very wasabi-y dressing, and all were quite pleased. service was terribly friendly, ambiance was a little bit bachelorette party, a little bit birthday night out, a little bit date night, and i may well go back again tonight ;)
It's unfortunate that I didn't get to try the food here, but came for the nightlife instead. Well, it was pretty packed and hot inside. We made our way through to find a few chairs at the end of the bar, and sat down to drink. The bartender was a bit too serious for my friends and I. I don't know if he was having an off night or what, but he wouldn't even drink the shot we bought him and seemed kind of in a bad mood. It sucks because it does kind of put a damper on the atmosphere. If you were escaping a bad day to come across someone else like that, it only worsens the situation. Fake it and put on a smile. I have worked in the service industry, I know. In any case, the bouncer bought my friends and me drinks since one of my friends knew him. The music wasn't too shabby, and the prices were okay.
I have been going to Ohana for awhile. I am amazed that I have not reviewed this place yet. Ohana is an underrated Hawaiian joint lost in the Belltown district. It is definitely a taste first and formalities and looks last. One thing to remember, if you are looking for a traditional Japanese sushi and cooking this is not the place. But, the freshness of their fish matches any upper level Japanese Restaurant.
Ohana is extremely innovative and creative in their rolls. They have amazing ways of balancing texture and flavor to come up with some of the best rolls I have had. For example, they have a roll called Sakura roll constructed of Yellowtail, Cilantro, Jalapenos and Avocado. Simple yet extremely refreshing roll. The combination of crunchiness of fresh greens, spiciness of the pepper and the fresh Yellowtail heightens all senses of your mouth. This is just an example of their creativity in rolls. You can tell that they put much thought into their rolls. So many Sushi joints just whip something together. It's still good but not as good as well planned out
There are so many more but I would run out of space describing them all. Sumo Roll is also good. Sweet, spicy and sour, packed with flavors. It's simply amazing.
Also, my attraction to Ohana is it's casual ambiance. It captures the feeling you get when you walk into a Hawaiian joint. Comfortable, friendly and laid back. I have good time every time I go here. This is going to motivate me to put together a Best Sushi list.
Whoa! Am I in Hawaii?
Kinda - sorta... if you're in Hawaii during spring break. The crowd here isn't exactly sophisticated - they're more like college meatheads or college meatheads who've just graduated. They're pushy, they're shovey, and they don't have manners.
And for those who are impressed with the karaoke - go to chinatown. If this impresses you, you'd be AMAZED. But that it itself shouldn't redeem this place.
Horrible. Our tempura appetizer was so awful, I wondered if they had mistakenly taken a plastic replica and stuck it in the deep fryer. It had a lumpen, soggy gray coating that suggested that the poor vegetable had run afoul of the law and was forced to be mutilated by a surly line cook that inexplicably had it out for broccoli.
That was pretty much the highlight of the meal.
What followed was hard rice in the rolls, cream cheese where it wasn't ordered, tuna that appeared to have been caught sometime last summer, and a waitress who hopefully has skills in acting, singing or dancing because god knows it wasn't waiting tables.
Not only would I never go back, I would seriously consider picketing the place with the placard: Stop the Useless Slaughter of Innocent Sushi!
The last time I was here was two months ago, but I've been here many times in the last three or four years so it should okay to review. I am rating this as a bar, not as a restaurant as I do not come here to eat, although I've had some good happy hour appetizer specials.
I love Ohana! Yes, it's cheesy and delightfully tacky, but I never fail to have a good time here. The bar is located in the Belltown area and I make sure that I hit here and Lola every time I'm in Seattle which is pretty often. It's not wild nightlife, but those two bars always make me happy.
After a long, hard day of stressful biz meetings, it's almost therapeutic for me to sit in that crazy tiki, almost Gilligan's Island themed bar, talking to people and enjoying a strong, tasty alcoholic beverage. Life is good again!!!
Amber and other bar/restaurants are in the area too which makes Belltown a fun destination for me to hit while I am there. As I mentioned earlier, Lola is another bar (food's not bad there!) I love that is just up the street from here, but that's a review for another day.
Love it!
But I'm a big fan of Hawaiian food, so I'm easy to please.
Fun atmosphere. The service can be a little lacking sometimes -- I think they don't have enough staff. The food is modern Hawaiian, so don't expect traditional food. The sushi is good-enough.
And remember, Ohana means Family... I think.
4 stars for the uber douche bag crowd and lame 90's hip hop music on some nights. Not traditional by any means but their sushi is great and their bento boxes are the best I've had in town.
TACKY! One star.
Fruity tropical drinks with umbrellas. One star.
Cheap, long happy hour. One star.
Attitude from the waitress about the splitting of the check. No more stars.
As my introduction to polynesian, must say that I am eager to try more.
The Lumpia Sariwa was an inspiration of cilantro and salmon. So good, in fact, that friends and I will be recreating it for a party next weekend. The jovial waiter kindly shared the basic peanut sauce recipe, and a quick google search led us to the lumpia wraps. Let's hope the grilled salmon is as easy to imitate - methinks no, however.
Quick, fast, friendly, and amenable to a laptop-locked landlubber like myself.
