I HATE hair salons. I always put off going for a couple of months, and luckily my hair is long so I can get away with it. I'm just not primped and made up enough to feel at home in them most of the time. I also dread the awkward small talk and with bad hearing, it's not the easiest task to chat over the whirring of a blow dryer. I haven't stayed at any salon for longer than a couple of haircuts because I have yet to find one with an atmosphere that I look forward to returning to.
That is, until today... (ooh how dramatic)
Oh Capizzi was fantastic. Being that I dislike getting haircuts so much I generally put off calling in for an appointment too, but today was my only free day for a bit. I called at 10 on a Saturday morning and had an easy time fitting in.
The space is small, quaint and unpretentious. The woman at the desk was very friendly as was my hairdresser, Consuela. She made helpful suggestions and I was very happy with the cut. Though $60 is a bit more than I generally like to spend on a haircut and blowdry, I would definitely do it again for the friendly service and atmosphere.
I got my hair done (high/low lights and a cut- blow out) at Oh Capizzi by Melonie. She was very attentive- detail oriented- and a perfectionist. We had a consultation before we started to talk about what I wanted- and since I'm EXTREMELY indecisive she brought out a huge book of colored hair samples. We talked about what I would like and went with her suggestion. She wouldn't let me leave unless we BOTH liked my hair! =) I have curly hair that no one seems to cut right. Usually my hair will wind up looking flat on top and a big poof on the bottom. She did some crazy thing with her scissors that made my hair and bangs fall perfectly! I've gotten so many compliments.. needless to say I am very happy with it. The salon is very cute and comfortable- very inviting and laid back for Hoboken. The receptionist and my stylist, Melonie, were very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend her!
