This is a really good gym for me. I love the classes and how diverse they are and how diverse the trainers are. It has sauna and showers and a big locker room. A lot of equipment and even CrossFit room as well as racketball.
I love the total body workouts. They are about an hour long and are really worthwhile.
Overall, my only complaint is the equipment is dated and the locker room needs an upgrade...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Craig H.Wyckoff, NJ031Nov 14, 2020
My family used to go to this gym, and the facility was always OK. Nothing special, but they were close, and the staff was good.
But their administration is horrible. We have been erroneously 3 times now, and have to fight tooth and nail each time to get refunded. They take days (or weeks) to get back to you, and only the owner seems to be able to do anything (and he apparently has another job that takes precedence).
The most recent time I went in to try to talk to someone in charge, there was a group of 6 people all sitting together right by the entrance talking and laughing together, maskless, that I had to walk by to get to the person at the desk. So much for trying to keep COVID under control in the community.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Craig,
As you know, we were closed during the summer and now we are running under capacity. During this time, we were also remodeling to enhance our facility. But due to Covid, we had to make some major adjustments to keep the gym up and running. Please understand where we are coming from as well.
Thank you - Joe T.Waldwick, NJ0134Mar 7, 2020Updated review
I would consider going to another gym. After raising prices to $70 and they cant fix the sauna, the treadmills and the lockers. I give up. Very poor customer service at this gym. It has been months. More like years and they cant fix the equipment. When I spoke to the manager and owner I'm told they are working on it. Unbelievable....months to fix a sauna? Really? Several of The mens lockers you can not even open. It take 5 years to fix them? Dont waste your money at this gym..

Joe,
I want to apologize that you have not been given an update regarding the men's steamroom. We are getting a brand new system installed and unfortunately, it has taken longer than expected. We are hoping for it to be fixed by the end of this week and we will DEFINITELY send out a notice once it is all settled. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns: izzymerle.odyssey@gmail.comFeb 25, 2020Previous reviewI renewed membership because of the reduced membership rate due to health insurance deal.
The steam room hasn't worked in more than a month. I have been told 5 times they are working on it.
I asked "manager" with colored hair about getting it fixed and she walked away like it wasnt her problem.
I would not pay $60+ month when they keep the equipment working.

I have been going to Odyssey since I was 14 years old (21 now), I would recommend this gym to anyone. I love the way the gym isn't always packed and the way the machines and equipment are spaced out in a convenient way. I had switched gyms once at around 16 years old but never felt as comfortable as Odyssey was so I switched back. The staff is also very nice and even though I don't use the personal trainers when I see them working with clients, the clients are always smiling and working hard. There is also a couple racquetball courts that many members use in a friendly/competitive manner. You can also set up volleyball and play. They have half a basketball court and a turf room that are both very nice. I have seen many of the same members at the gym for many years now and I can see why many people choose to stay at this gym. Once you walk in the environment is awesome, all in all I would highly recommend this gym to anyone.

After my old gym closed due to financial difficulties, I wanted to find a gym that was family owned because I generally can't stand corporate gyms. Odyssey gym was exactly what I was looking for. It has all of the equipment I use and I love the different rooms that are sectioned out for specific workouts (the leg room, the dumbbell room, the main room, and the ab room). I would highly recommend this gym to anyone.

In this age of corporate mega-chain gyms, the independently-owned and operated Odyssey Athletic Center stands apart. Members aren't anonymous drones identified only by their keycard numbers. Here, everyone--from the front desk employees to the janitors--knows your name and expresses genuine friendliness. Fellow patrons aren't territorial and standoffish. On the contrary: you're always welcome to share equipment, spots, and knowledge.
The machines here reflect the height of resistance training engineering, perfectly maintained from the 80s and 90s. Only the best first-generation Hammer Strength machines, Streamline pieces, and Cadex stations were selected to occupy the space. All of this is of course in addition to plenty of barbells and dumbbells, metal plates, Olympic platforms, racks, a turf, basketball court, racket ball courts, studio, and large range of cardio equipment. Whatever your fitness level, interest, or exercise routine, Odyssey appeals to it all, and then some.
If that wasn't enough, Odyssey is never crowded. It's in an easily-accessible location within the vibrant community of Waldwick. Plus, most of all, the price is very reasonable (and indeed a bargain considering the equipment and customer service unique only to this gym).
Your epic quest to find the perfect gym is over. Here at Odyssey, your journey to health and wellness is finally within reach.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tara W.Ridgewood, NJ492599133Jun 25, 2017
I agonized for months which gym to join when I moved to this area. I tried the big gyms, the basic gyms, the boutique specialized studios. This gym has a little bit of everything and definitely the best bang for your buck.
If you're looking for a luxe spa experience and pretty people then keep looking. The locker room is seriously stuck in the early 90's with its decor and some of the equipment is what I remember from when I started going to gyms in the early 2000's.
But I think we all live with it so our prices don't go up.
The crowd is an interesting mix of pubescent meathead wannabes and sloppy moms and dads who don't give a crap how they look (I'd fall into that category).
I haven't been to any classes because I just don't have my life together to make anything that's actually scheduled. Haven't tried childcare but it's definitely a perk. They have a basic smoothie bar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Pete B.Allendale, NJ018Mar 14, 2020
This is about a $39/month gym that raised their price to $75/month. There are much better options for less or the same price. Much of the equipment is outdated and in need of more up to date electronics. Members don't put their weights away and management does nothing about it. Last Thursday in the leg room 4 of the 6 plate loaded machines still had weights on them and no one was in the room. Saturday morning dumbbells were missing from the rack because they were left in other rooms also with no one using them. Also, in the dumbbell room there was chalk everywhere. On the benches, dumbbells and floor. It looked like the bathroom at Studio 54. I know there have been many complaints about this and a real gym would cancel the offenders membership.
On a positive note, everyone on the staff is very nice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tony B.Ramsey, NJ0113Sep 30, 2020
After reading some of the bad reviews I think I should tell everyone everything is new now. I'm assuming everything has been changed since Covid. The sauna works, the lockers are brand new, the whole place looks like it was painted, also new lighting a lot of the machines look refurbished or brand new, the bathroom is awesome and the lockers are like really innovative with digital free locks. Oh and then the new coffee Bar /snack station has some really good drinks. There is huge parking lot and there's always a spot.

I was a member of Odyssey for many years. They have great instructors and a wide variety of classes you can take. Their cardio equipment isn't the top of the line, but it's well maintained and functional. The problems I ran into here tended to be with the front desk and membership department, particularly the membership department because they're just not nice.
