Don't drive the strand. Walk it.
4th of July gets crazy. Like riot police crazy.
Oh man, talk about a drag. This place is like the Gaza Strip. It's full of sand fleas and dead puppies about 99% of the year. It might be nice to walk on if it weren't for the broken syringes and used condoms. Not to mention the surf here year round is dwarved by many east coast lakes. You don't want to come here....just take my word for it. Don't trust pictures either. I'm sure they're all photoshopped by the city of Oceanside in a desperate plea for tourism.

One of the most unique areas in San Diego County in which you can cruize a three block stretch in your car while cruizing hot looking dudes and dudettes all from the comfort of your A/C'd car.
The approach to the Strand is cool. You head west down Seagaze and go down a steep hill. When the road ends, take a left and begin the tour. The Strand goes all the way to Wisconsin Ave and you can then either leave (Wisconsin Ave leads to Coast Hwy) or you can go left and do the loop again or go find parking (take a right at the end of Seagaze or grab a street space.)
The Strand is convenient to mass transit with the Oceanside Transit Center being only 2-3 blocks east of here.
One of San Diego County's unique jewels - not many other places you can drive so close to the beach and the ocean and not have to worry about going 65 MPH. The Strand is posted 15 MPH and most people go 10-15 because of all the human activity - crossing back and forth to the beach, etc. so take your time. Especially on summer weekends this trip can be a slow one. Enjoy the journey.
