Nice pool hall which is large and spacious with plenty of tables.
Not to mention for a late owl like myself, it's great they are open till 1am. Nice!
I want to try air hockey and ping pong here next time. They also have mini bowling here?
I'm waiting to try that out too! -

This is a great find in Brooklyn! Pool tables galore (over 30 I think), ping pong, air hockey, and apparently mini bowling (which has been broken every time I went). The guy at the desk handling the pool side if it is great, he noticed that my friend and I were eating for half an hour and took that time off of the bill of the pool table. Other staff are kinda hit or miss. It also can be a little pricey, I just found out about another pool place in Brooklyn that is less than half of what this place charges so I'll be checking that out soon.
I did have my birthday get together here and it was great, especially since not all my friends are into pool... there are so many options. Plus it's right outside the subway :) -
Review from Liz M.
I'm so glad others had a time with the staff. I have not seen a group so discontent in their jobs and I work in foster care! Seriously, it may have killed them to smile or at least say "hi". The waitress got our beer mixed up and put what we think was sprite in my friends gin and tonic. Also with that gin and tonic, my friend specifically said go to the well instead of top shelf, but was charged for the top anyway. After some bickering, the waitress changed it.
The place was dead on a football Sunday so we quickly broke for pool (haha). Prices were completely reasonable and the beers on tap were actually beyond your standard brews. Overall, there is no reason to come unless you want to pick up a cue and play a few rounds. -

Go to play or watch the game, not to eat. The food sucks, as does the service, which you'll see time and time again in all the reviews. But even for the biggest games, you'll find a spot to sit at, either at the bar, or even a booth. The pool hall is humongous, and they also have ping pong, fuzball (sp?), and mini bowling. There are tvs in the pool hall area too, if you're wanting to do both.

A mixed bag.
Its not "bad," but it really has its flaws. Most notably, the staff. We sat ourselves and then waited 10 minutes for the one menu we were given to share. We then waited another 15 minutes for someone to take our order which was annoying since we were starving. Food arrived in less time than it took to get our order taken. We asked for mustard and about 20 minutes after we got it the waitress returned to tell us it was spicy mustard, in step with their usual timeliness. At first I couldn't figure out why the service was so bad, then the check arrived and there was a mandatory gratuity added for a party of two. They do have beer towers though, I guess that makes it better.
We decided to play air hockey, one of my favorite sports, and the machine kept turning off mid-game. The sign by the door dictated the level on your waist where one's pants should be worn. Just something to keep in mind.
Not a bad place, but not the Ritz folks.
Oh, there's also a hysterical "VIP Area" next to the bathroom. -

Good if you like to play pool and not wait for a table. Otherwise it has a well worn vibe, almost dive-like, with old TVs that need upgrading for HD programming.

My fiancé and I live so close to Prospect Heights that I can't believe we didn't know this place existed. It is MASSIVE, with the same amount of pool tables you'd see in NYC's biggest billiard halls. Throughout the sprawling space you'll also find mini bowling, rows of ping pong tables, b-ball arcade games, air hockey, darts, a cool lounge area, and a very big bar.Oh, and there are the typical touch-screen bar games as well--Photo Hunt, anyone?
The staff is remarkably cool. The man in charge of assigning game tables held our spot on the list for us while we went out for a cigarette despite there being quite a few people waiting behind us (we were next up). No hard feelings from anyone though--the crowd, while incredibly diverse, is universally chill. Everyone's just out for a casually good time; if your ping pong ball falls in a stranger's beer you can expect them to just laugh it off.
The food looked like a high calorie good time. We didn't order any, but it sure smelled good. Great place for a party. And no matter how crowded it gets, the size of the place completely prevents claustrophobia. -

I've been there twice and I really like the place. I went there both times with a large group and there was actually enough place to stand and sit.
They have pool, ping pong, air hockey, and arcade games
The drinks were pretty good...it's not often that a bartender makes a sex on the beach well. They didn't skimp on the wine...my glass was almost full. The only downside is that they didn't have frozen drinks. -

So me and my best friend decided that our waitress needed roller skates.
Other than that, she was pretty ok, her name was Jamilla, if thats how its spelled.
This place had a vast amount of individuals last night.
You have to excuse me for I am still intoxicated from the last couple of hours.
Besides from that, the guy at the bar who was clearly 40 but claimed that he was 29 was obviously a creep.
So if you want to meet creeps, just show up here at around 1am.
One of the basketball machines was broken in the back so free throws for everyone, i guess!
Oh, also if you are under 21 and try to get in...trust me, the bouncer doesnt really give a shi*t. Just strike up a conversation with him and walk straight to the guy who handles the billards. lol -

"Drunken pool and cute waitresses makes for an evening of dangerous debauchery.....you happy ass MF."
This place is pretty cool, it is going through some kind of transformation from an all gangster all the time scary place to a hipster hangout - the mix of hard looking (yet totally cool as we were to find out) gangland thugged out guys and tattooed skinny pants mustached greasy haired pantywaists was really interesting. Outside there were low riders with huge rims and more fixies than you could run over with a bus.
I went out here on a sales call, and met with the owner, who I have to say is one of the coolest guys I met in my career. He was interested in knowing what he did not yet know, and then doing something about it. He questioned me about my product for hours, and we talked about business and all sorts of things, including breasts. (It was part of the marketing program, just check the website.)
My friend Ryan came out and met me here one night, and we hung out a little with the GM, another really cool guy. Ryan had this great idea - let's drink this drink called a Chuckster (http://www.urbandictio...) that is Blue Moon and Orange Vodka. He called them a Blue Sunrise I think, but I can't remember.
The waitress was pretty cute, and we did our best to make her feel at home at our pool table when she came by. Then we had two or three more each. It was like drinking 6 drinks in the space of an hour. We were totally ripped, and we were playing pool in their HUGE pool hall. This place is immense - you could have a party for Google here. So there were plenty of people to bump into and make asses of ourselves in front of. I think the thugged out guys thought we were funnier than the hipsters - and Ryan has a habit of making everyone feel the love. He is the happiest fool I have ever met, full of love and kindness and other god damn endearing qualities.
I probably shouldn't talk shit, as those are the reasons we probably made it out of there alive. At one point our white ball went rolling across the room at a high speed, bouncing off of shit along the way, and generally wrecking havoc. We went after it, me interrupting games that looked fairly important based on the looks the Brooklyners were giving us, and Ryan trotting along behind giving people high fives, his defusing smile, and in some cases, a big hug was dolled out.
When we got back to the table I said "Drunken pool and cute waitresses makes for an evening of dangerous debauchery.....you happy ass MF." All in all, we had a good time, ate some food, and played our little hearts out. -

Inattentive bartenders. Loud music. Loud sports on huge TVs.
The pool tables & the customers seem like an afterthought in this place. Not the sort of place I would call a pool hall or the sort of place I'll ever step foot in again because my experience was so bad. -

What a great find! It's a far trip from home and from outside it looks so small, but I was impressed to see the spacious interior! The staff was very friendly at check-in. We played for 2 hours and they gave us an hour for free. I loved the $3 Blue Moon at happy hour, plus the wings and sliders were great! We'll definitely be back for more.

Well this place sure has character. Then again they did have my friend and I as patrons.....
We took some time to find this place, not because my friend doesn't know where it is, but rather we kept talking and walked back and forth in of it at least 3 times. My friend told me it's called Brooklyn Billiards......The official name was Oceans.....
Pretty loud, music and conversation-wise. Darkly lit. Waitress was efficient in getting our drinks and the check (20% gratuity is instantly included, I was sober enough to read before I sign) guys and girls making out here and there. We had at least 3 guys approach our table, either to hit on us, challenge us or just talk big. Fun times.
I'd never had such a sexually innuendos loaded game as I had last night.
This was playing against a girl.
And I play A LOT of pool.
We'll be back ;) -

It's a 3.5-er. Went here last night with my boyfriend and had an overall good time. Very large space and not overcrowded. It's not necessarily a beautiful or trendy pool hall and there is some grit to it (e.g., duct tape on the vinyl couch). The large space meant that bumping into players from other tables was minimized, though there was still some waiting for players at the adjoining tables. Pool price are cheaper than manhattan (11 or 12 dollars an hour for a pool table on a Saturday night). My main complaint would be that the balls kept getting stuck inside the table. We had to reach into the pockets every time someone scratched (yeah, we're not that good) or to rack. I thought it might be unique to our table, but I noticed at least one other table attempting to locate their balls inside the table.
There is waitress service for food and drink. The waitress was relatively attentive (I rarely went thirsty). The exception was our repeated requests for water. Several times when we ordered drinks, we also asked for water, but it was forgotten. Cocktail prices do add up, so I'd speculate and say that the drinks aren't that strong. Also, they add a gratuity to the bill.
I can't speak to the food or to the bowling, ping pong, or air hockey. A chill experience and I definitely plan to return. -

I like this place. I've always had a good time. Love the air hockey and ping pong. I haven't bowled here yet. Good experience and drinks are reasonably priced.

I come here time and time again, but every now and then I have a really bad experience at Oceans 8.
The worst was when there was broken glass blatantly in my drink and the manager on duty kept trying to prove that there wasn't via their security camera system, he did comp that ONE drink.
Besides the bad, the good does have to be mentioned, it's a pool hall that has some ping-pong tables in the back, although those tables aren't balanced too well. The also have some other games, which look like they have been rescued from Coney Island and haven't been played since being installed.
They also have some Sam Adams Summer Ale on tap, which tasted like buttered popcorn, the bartender didn't offer to comp it or replace it, I'll remember to try before I buy here.Listed in: The new digs, Prospect Heights…

Brooklyn, NY
While in general I am, like Mary Poppins, Practically Perfect in Every Way, I have been known to have a bad habit or two. I don't make my bed. I drink way too much coffee. And bourbon. But recently, I've gotten into the bad habit of not having dinner until late, like 11 or 12. Now, not only is this not a great idea from a health standpoint, but sometimes finding dinner that late is virtually impossible. In Brooklyn.
Sunday night found J and I roaming the streets of Park Slope around 11:30 needing sustenance, but coming up empty. Almost everywhere (including the supermarket) was closed, and my favorite late-night dining destination, Blue Ribbon, was about to be. Feeling defeated, we resigned ourselves to walking to J's apt in Prospect Heights for a makeshift dinner of whatever he had left in the fridge, which was most likely three eggs, a lime and a bundle of mint.
But lo! We turn on to Sterling Place, and Brownstone Billiards (home to Ocean's 8 bar and grill) is there, shining in bright blue neon with a sign that reads "Open until 4 AM". We high-five and head downstairs into a sprawling magical wonderland of billiards tables, air hockey, mini-bowling and, most importantly, an open kitchen.
We sit at the bar and watch baseball highlights while perusing the menu, whose cocktail list includes such classics as the Long Island Iced Tea and something called the Purple Mother. The bartender tells us, "the Purple Mother has a last name, but we're not allowed to print it". I can't imagine what he's talking about.
Our food--turkey burger and fries for J, Mac & Sleaze for me, salads for both--is surprisingly good. Especially the fries, which seem to have been breaded before frying--an ingenious idea if I've ever heard one, as it results in more surface area to soak up oil, as well as a nice crispy exterior, which for me is a requisite for tasty fries. We ate them all.
And then, even though it is 1 am at this point and I have an hour commute to lab in the morning, we simply can't leave without a little mini-bowling. $3 pp gets you a frame, and you don't have to wear stinky shoes. And despite more gutter balls than I thought possible in a single frame, I also got a few strikes and completely kicked J's ass, 92 to 87. Are there such things as mini-bowling leagues? I feel like I could totally be on one. Would you like to join?Listed in: Brooklyn, YES!

This place is fun. It has everything you could hope for. There's pool, there's ping-pong, arcade basketball, air hockey, miniature bowling, food, and a full bar.
If you do go, I'd coral a bunch of friends, or enemies; it's just more fun that way. You see; they offer so many ways for you to pummel your friends in this place. There's pool, there's ping-pong, arcade basketball, air hockey...
Word of caution: if you should come across this one asian girl with a coy smile and her own ping-pong paddle?.., I'd steer clear of that one!Listed in: Bars, Pubs, Dives, Lounges,…

Review from Ting S.
A large expanse of pool tables, 2 mini bowling lanes, a handful of arcade games, air hockey, and.......drum roll....5 PiNG PoNG tables!
ok, there's also a bar with good selection, including my buddy Jameson, with a few booths in the bar section for eating. The wings smelled amazing, I will have to try these on another visit. Tuesday night is ladies' night, and the prices are good. If you're coming to play pong with more than 2 people, it's cheaper than fat cat. $10 per hour/table for 2 people, and then only $2 for each additional person.
I can only vouch for the ping pong tables, and they were nice! Good condition Butterfly tables, with lots of space on either side. Not too busy on this week day night. Double check the bill when paying at the end of the night for your table; the math can be a little dicey! -

We were visiting from San Francisco and they were playing the 9er game! Nuf said. You guys are awesome. Great atmosphere. Stop in for a beer and some bar food and then play a game of billiards, bowling, or walk all that greezy food off on your way to Prospect Park.

Here's how it happens. Brownstone is super fun at first, when you go on a whim and end up mini-bowling until 3 am, accidentally spending way more of your weekly paycheck than you meant to and definitely allowing yourself to be over-served with Rolling Rock. Because mini-bowling is THAT fun.
But since that fateful day so many months ago, my subsequent 5 attempts to mini-bowl again have been foiled. Either by mechanical failure or Yelp (elite parties rule, hours-long wait for mini-bowling drool).
Lameface. Fix your mini-bowling.
I sort of dig the rest of the arcade stuff but I'm terrible at ping pong and barely respectable at pool. And no one wants to play air-hockey who is older than, say.... 14?
Also, they are usually tapped of at least one kind of beer, so be sure to ask before you get your little heart set on a particular brew, as I am wont to do.
I stand by the quesadillas and the wings, which are tops. -

One of the things I asked on various Brooklyn forums before moving to Park Slope was "where is there to play pool?" ... so you you know this review is some srs brznrs.
Over the last 2 years, I've gone to Oceans 8 maybe once a month. I would have gone a *lot* more if the service wasn't incredibly, incredibly bad. Sometimes the place would be completely empty and I would still have to walk to the bar to get my drinks. I once found my "server" on the phone in the bathroom when I was desperately in need of beverage and there was no one else around.
And forget about a Friday or a Saturday night.
BUT Apparently there has been a complete management changeover and they hired all new staff - bartenders and watiresses alike. I was there on a Saturday and actually had two - count them TWO - waitresses fighting over my table.
Other than service, I don't have any complaints. There are 20+ pool tables and a selection of bar-quality snacks. I usually get the jalapeno poppers because they are almost impossible to destroy between the package and the fryer.
The tables themselves are mostly decent. They are regulation size and all got refelted during the remodel about a year or so ago. Most of them could stand to get refelted again... There are "house" tables on one side of the place that are nicer. Don't expect to play on them unless you know the owner or you know the hustle. As someone who is used to playing in places full of rich old white guys before moving to NY, I gotta say that the play style on the house tables is fun to watch. You can learn a thing or two.
If you go on certain nights where thingz be goin' onnnn (usually Thurs - Sat night), be prepared to get metal detected. The crowd is normal, but the security means business. -

Do not order the mac and cheese. You will hate yourself.
$7.50 for "homemade" Velveeta with microwave bubbles on top?
(Full discloure: I ate most of it anyway because I was hungry. It was disgusting.)
I could play pool for hours, especially at one of the tables by the walls where you don't have to worry about accidentally hitting other players at other tables the whole time. I had a lot of fun singling along to Sublime and No Doubt. Ah, memories... -

Great sports bar, they have tons of huge TV's, good bar food (the french fries and onion rings were delicious, skip the nachos), and the waitstaff is friendly and prompt. There also appeared to be a bafflingly large number of pool tables, ping pong tables and video games. They let us sit in the VIP area with huge couches and our own TV because no one else at the bar wanted to watch our football game. Also, I'm kind've a big deal.
Dinged them a point because the place smells vaguely of sewage and they were cranking some awful XM pop radio station the whole time. -

I thought someone goofed up on the sign that said "Pay for 2 hours get the 3rd on free" so we went to take advantage. Not on only was it true (for a Tuesday night), but we had the option to play ping pong, air hockey or bowling.
Moderatly priced drinks, cheap pool... this IS the best place in Brooklyn for billiards. -
Review from Julie C.
We stopped at this place for lunch after going to the brooklyn museum. We were all craving a good burger and it was hard to find one close by. We found this place because it sounded promising.
The food was decent, i opted to get fish and chips than a burger.
Don't order the soda here. its disgusting, no carbonation and you can taste that its made from syrup. Gross!!!
They have pool tables and arcades here as well.
Decent food, gross soda but a good array of beers. -
Review from Donna A.
This place is pretty straight forward with no frills attached. Waitresses will come to you as you shoot pool. The labeling of tables don't seem to really follow any sequential reasoning but you'll figure it out. They also have air hockey, table tennis and mini bowling. I've eaten here before and the food is standard bar fare with reasonable prices. Heads up- they add automatic gratuity.

Tips:
1. order drinks at the bar, not at the restaurant tables. I ordered a LI iced tea and they made it so weak and sweet. I ended up being nauseous most of the night.
2. don't waste your time "bowling" - all you're basically doing is throwing a shotput ball at some mini-pins
3. GO to this place on New Year's Eve - Almost NO ONE goes there (from what my friends said .. and you get treated pretty well there then)
4. Play pool or ping pong, they're pretty fun
5. The basketball thing they have is an arcade type. Put a dollar, get like 3-5 bballs, and throw. One of the two machines is busted :P -

This place is great. I used to come here before they renovated it and make it look all fancy like, with the big screens and such. it's quite the improvement. It has great specials (none of which for the life of me I can remember) on drinks and pool, which I love drinking, and playing. And it's just a nice place to play pool and hang out. Man I wanna play pool right now...who wants to lose?

Simple: cheaper than Manhattan by far, less pretension, cheap (although not fancy, and we are beer snobs, not gonna lie) beer selection. Random and adequate bar food. Over all their pool tables were more playable than those in many bars and I left there very satisfied with our experience. DONT go on the weekends but week nights are good!

A great option for happy hour, some games or just a drink in Prospect Heights/Park Slope. They've recently renovated the place and it looks drastically different. They've got nearly 30 TV's, 20 or so pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, an arcade and single lane small ball bowling. Not to mention a full bar menu and a good assortment of drinks. It's not the cheapest place to play pool, but it's a convenient option. There's also a 2 for 1 happy hour every day from 4-7pm.

This is a pretty decent place to shoot some pool, play ping pong, or just watch some sports on the big screens. We had a group of us playing pool and it was pretty awesome. The tables were kept in pretty good condition considering the usage. They also had smaller tables for parents who brought their children there to play. I thought that was pretty cool. Plus they had waitress service, so if you wanted drinks or food they would bring it to your table. This might be my new spot on Thursday nights.

Brooklyn, NY
As noted below, recently renovated and called (charmingly) oceans 8, although the casino / possible movie reference vibe escapes me. This place went from being BYOB (i.e. fucking awesome) to something different... but not necessarily bad. They're now on regular hours (a good thing) open till 4 AM (unless no one's around at 3 AM) every day, and- this adds that 4th star- A happy hour from Midnight to 4AM on Sunday. BOGOs from midnight on?! Yes please.... And every week day from 4-7PM (as mentioned below!)
A decent dirty martini, and a damn good beer selection. A kind bartender that follows directions and doesn't scoff at critique... he even took back a drink that was made wrong without charging. This makes me smile.
I don't go for the food, but no one could consider it bad. It's a notch above bar food, but not 5 star dining by any means. Nice salads, fries, burgers; no complaints there. Hell, they even have a veggie burger - in a red-blooded, American pool hall. Who would have thought.
Anyhow, down to business. Air hockey x 3 (?), a small selection of arcade games (driving game x 2, ms. pacman - galaga, etc.) About 25 pool tables, 5 ping pong tables, 2 bowling lanes.
Now my game is pool, so a couple things about that. Don't get screwed with a nasty table... there's some good one's in this place, and you'll be relegated to a gnarly one unless you're a regular. ASK FOR A DECENT TABLE. Trust me on this! Also, if you don't have you're own stick, you'll be looking for a straight one with a good tip for a WHILE. Most tables roll flat, however, the felt is GONE on more than 15% of the tables. Not a huge disaster, but if you're a shark that appreciates some beautiful, green, velvety goodness nuzzling your fingertips everytime you take a shot, this might not be you're place.
Overall, the vibe is as follows: the bar's been renovated, the rest of the place is a little dingy (it is in a basement) but, the pool's cheap, and I'm assuming sooner or later they'll carpet the lower level where the pool tables are and class it up a bit more. An old "no frills" place that's in the process of putting on it's sunday best. Definite authentic 'Pool Hall Junkies' vibe still remains.
Oh and they have bookoo TVs with every sport (including soccer!) that you could imagine. If you're into that.
