We stopped here after a long day of driving, and my one request for vacation was to get a place with an ocean view. This was our one ocean view room, and boy was it gorgeous.  We got a bit of a discount for checking in so late ($150/night for the super king, whirlpool/fireplace room), but we were still able to enjoy the whirlpool (can't use it after 10pm), the fireplace, and hang out on the balcony.

the rooms are huge, and yes, they're a gaudy pink color, but I swear it was bigger than my old apartment in San Francisco!  We slept with the door open to listen to the waves, which was great...until our neighbors were on their balcony at 6am chatting it up. BUZZ KILL.

The beach paths were great though, we took a nice long walk in the morning before checkout.  We'd definitely stay again if we pass through.

Our experience with the dual queen room, ground floor.

-  square footage is huge, like 2 standard hotel rooms joined together.
-  this is the only room type here that allows kids.
-  employees there were very friendly & helpful.
-  2 sinks!  One in the bathroom, another near the doorway.
-  not really *that* gaudy, more of a sterile clean look.
-  outstanding ocean view, 90% of the reason to be here.

We will definitely be back.
In the morning, the Ft Bragg bakery & the Headlands coffee house is just a minute drive away, where you can grab stuff for breakfast to go, and enjoy it with the view of the ocean from your balcony or indoors from behind the picture window if it's too cold outside.

If you like hearing the sound of the surf at night, leave the door open.  Yes, you're that close to the beach.

Leap over the balcony (or just leave through the front door) and walk or bike along the shore, up to the bluff at MacKerricher park, or walk to Pudding creek.

As for the ground-floor balcony, this might not be a place to seek solitude or privacy.  You're in clear view of your neighbors balcony just a few yards besides you.  And right in front, between you and the beach is a popular walking path.

We're regular visitors to mendocino B&Bs, and were pleased by the reasonable price and easy feel of this place.  Next time we'll try the upper floor.

If you want to wake up to a spectacular view of the Pacific in a 1970's-era retro-pink room with outdated floral detail and faux-columns, then you should seriously consider the Ocean View Lodge for a weekend. The columns ain't marble (see my photo), but they do remind me of this "commercial"...

"Who lives here? Da Pope! What is dis? Da Playboy Mansion!" Well, if you get the no-expenses-spared "King/Whirlpool - Second Floor" room, you will feel like the King of England. OK, maybe not the King of England...maybe the Pharaoh of Fort Bragg. It's spacious, and the jacuzzi is decent-size, though make sure you diet beforehand if you plan to fit two comfortably in there as the water jets give you an unexpected colonic.

You also get a sealed fireplace with a switch, cable TV with everything but the pay channels, a little fridge with no goodie basket (dammit), and a balcony with a 180-degree view. That is unconditionally gorgeous unless the overweight woman on the next balcony is clipping her toenails at the same time. And it isn't bad price-wise...$175 during the winter season. There's a trail behind the lodge where you can enjoy the full panorama of the rugged coastline.

Check-in and check-out times are pretty standard - in after 3PM, out by 11AM. Josie at the front desk is quite nice and efficient, giving you totally unmemorable instructions on how to use the thermostat in the room and then a complete rundown on dining options in town. It's only about five minutes to the downtown area and probably another twenty or so to Mendocino. I say surrender to the pink and treat yourself to a soak in the tub.

I will be back here the next time I go up to FB.  The website is very accurate in the descriptions of the room.

We got the King room with spa and fireplace, and it was discussed how big the room was.  The fireplace was really a nice touch as it was quite cold and over-cast the couple days I was there.  The view awesome!!!  I will post a couple of pictures that were taken from the balcony.

We were even lucky enough that at the end of may to see what was probably the last whale passing through the area on their way north!  That was pretty cool.

Like the other reviewers, I did not have ants, but there were strange white stains on the bed skirt...GROSS!

We got the king bedroom with the whirlpool and fireplace. The view of the coast is really what you're paying $190 a night on a weekday for. BEAUTIFUL view, I couldn't have asked for a better hotel to stay at. The balcony is directly beside the coast, imagine your backyard being the Pacific Ocean.  Huge bed, large and pretty room ( I especially liked the white columns surrounding the whirlpool). The picture on the website is very accurate. The check-in guy was very helpful about what restaurants/stores to visit. The only things to complain about was the unidentifiable white stains on the dress of the bed, the hairs in the drain of the whirlpool that stopped us from using it longer, and the ants that chain claimed to have seen.  I would definately stay here again!
