4 reviews for Ocean Trails by Trump National Golf Course
This is such a great beach-the only down side is the dog owners who cannot control their dogs. If you bring a picnic make sure you walk far north before opening it up. These dogs will walk over and try and bite stuff out of your hands-and the owners think it's pretty cute. I think Ceasar Millan would shake his head in disgust.
If you walk a couple hundred yards though it is really nice. There are rock shelves that make kelp forest possilbe so close to the shore.

One of 3 dog-friendly beaches in Los Angeles County, and this is definitely the most scenic. It's a little awkward to find your first visit, because you drive straight into the golf course . [ Free parking!]
Park in the "visitor/recreational" parking and make sure you've packed all the necessaries - water for the dog, a tennis ball, good hiking shoes [it's a steep trail... but I do it in sandals], a Busy Bee sandwich or Sorrento's salad [you'll want to stay all day and you'll get hungry, trust me], a towel for when you decide to explore the tide pools, and if you're like me, a Sigg water bottle filled with a mimosa [why not?].
It's a scenic walk through the putting areas and croquet lawns to the head of the trail... and then it drops into a beautiful view of the Palos Verdes cliffs. Down the trail to a pebbly beach - if you catch the low tide, there are TONS of tide pools filled with sea stars, anemones and little fish and crabs. It gets crowded on warm weekends, tons of PV yuppies with their yappy white terriers, and tatted Pedro hipsters with their rots and pits... lots of families having picnics and playing in the water [there's only minimal surf because of all the reef-rock.. so it's good for kids too].
If you're an explorer like myself, head north of the trails to the little elementary school at abalone cove [right next to the lifeguard tower].. or head south and check out the underwater caves. There's great snorkeling here if you're an excellent swimmer and can get past the reef-rock. [keep in mind that this beach is UNGUARDED - NO LIFEGUARDS - until you get to abalone cove several hundred yards up the beach]. The beach is open from sunrise to sunset every day.

Wow- I'm not even a big time hiker, but I get to tell you all about this little spot. Take PV Drive south to La Rotunda and go toward the ocean. Go past the condos and there is a nice parking lot with a nice public restroom. Golf anyone? Well, it may look like you are about to golf, but let's go for a scenic hike instead. Just park your car and start walking. The paved trail goes between some golf cart trails. You will see Trump's beautifully manicured golf course and an Apprentice evoking waterfall. Keep going and the pavement ends and the trail begins. The trail takes you along the beautiful RPV coastline. You can go down to the ocean, or hike a few trails above the cliff. You won't get lost, because you will always have the ocean in view. I brought my dog here over the weekend and he had a blast.
For you Yelpers who like Busy Bee: Pick up your pastrami sandwich and drive down 25th past Western into PV Dr. South to La Rotunda. There is a picnic table along the cliff when you hike down... but I'll let you find it yourself.
