Right off the Rt-1 exit in Apex, attached to a motel is this little sea food place. That's right--attached to a motel. Don't expect miracles, cuz they ain't happening at this little place.
It's a little sad walking in: the plaster sand dollars and star fish, the tacky décor. The menu wasn't much better--tons of fried foods. Hush puppies were served as bread would've been in most restaurants. I'd prefer bread, but whatever. If we live in North Carolina, we must all love fried foods and hush puppies. Not so, Ocean Stars!
It's possible that I just went in with the wrong expectations (this seems to be a southern-style seafood joint, which is neither my 'thing' nor was in what I was expecting) but my meal was lack luster. I grew up in a very Italian family and have fond memories of delicious linguine and marina with clams but the linguine I tried (with shrimp) was just bland.
Maybe for some people, this restaurant might hit the spot, but for me, it was just vaguely depressing and generally not up to scratch. -

My husband and I came down for a house-hunting trip and stayed at the Holiday Day Inn just down the street. When we asked the girl at the front desk about places to eat, she recommended Skippers or Ocean Stars. We drove by Skippers and it looked awful from the outside and so we drove down to Ocean Stars.
From the outside it looked nice. Once we got inside, it was another story. It was tacky and the food was awful. We vowed to never go back and we haven't. We have tried Skippers and I kick myself for not going there instead of Ocean Stars.
Do yourself a favor... just avoid Ocean Stars. I thought it'd be like a Red Lobster, but it's NOTHING like it. I'd take Long John Silver's over Ocean Stars any day!! -

If you want mediocre fried food and a lot of it for a cheap price, this is your place. If you want atmosphere, decent seafood and a satisfying meal, look elsewhere!
