Review from Shaun A.
Hollywood, FL
This is a bipolar hotel. Seems it was designed well, then handed off to some incompetent fools for operation. The staff seems to really really try, but never make the connection with the guests.
Oh, where do I began? Okay, day one: Check-in: I am told that my reservation does not exist. WHAT? Is that what I want to hear when I am there with my family? Finally, she finds my reservation and just announces that "the computer is slow... see?". My response is "WHO CARES". have some concern for the customer.
Restaurant: Seems like the lunch and dinner chef is okay (nothing great, just okay) But OMG, the breakfast... we ordered eggs (of different types) and you know what it tastes like... Have you ever tasted cardboard?
Room: More like a motel room then a hotel. The bed was horrible. The bed sheets looked like it was bought from a sale at a Motel6. The clock did not work (HOW CAN NOT KNOW THIS)? Don't they have housekeeping reporting? The hair dryer was actually CRACKED and obviously dangerous.
Service: There is a HUGE disconnect between the hotel, restaurant, housekeeping, and the gift shop. Just getting cream for coffee became a HUGE ordeal. The restaurant actually refused to give us some, stating that "we are not connected with the hotel"
On the bright side, the location is great. The pool is good, and right on the patio facing the ocean.
The only good part of the service was the valet who parked my car! Maybe he should run the hotel. -

I agree with some reviewers that, if you are low maintenance, this place will probably play just fine for you. However, I think that when most people save their hard earned money and go on vacation they expect something at least slightly better than what they have at home, or at a motel 8.
Be prepared for a mandatory, $10/day parking fee. I'm not going to say it's not convenient, but if I was given the option I wouldn't have taken it.
The comforters in the rooms look like vinyl from the early 90's, we couldn't help but think how many people had used them and wonder when the last time they were washed was. We immediately took them off and shoved them in the closet space for the remainder of the trip.
The maid service was awful. I tipped them to try and encourage a better job, but to no avail. Our towels weren't replaced AT ALL. We had to call the desk, and once literally go down to the lobby and demand, towels whenever we needed to shower. What a hassle. The housekeepers were unpleasant and looked like the hated their lives, not a single hello or smile the entire trip.
The balconies are connected and so it's important to lock your balcony door or your neighbor could quite easily mosey in while you are out.
Also, you're not allowed to have any of your own alcohol on the deck, you have to buy it all from them.
The front desk was rude and impersonable, some hardly spoke English making it difficult to communicate and ask questions. At points our questions went unanswered.
The free internet was spotty all week, it was a guessing game as to when I would come to my laptop and be able to get online. It's not a secure network either, so be careful.
Bright spots: Rizzo, bartender at the Tiki bar was the only personable staff member we came across. Deck area with lounges is nice which is why most of their pictures are of that area.
We had this hotel as a result of a Hotwire deal, if you have your choice I would stay far, far away. -

Can I give a negative 5?
I will argue with any of the other posters here. This place is far from clean.
The pictures on the website don't look anything at all like the lobby or room that we received upon arrival. Our room was so bad and smelled so bad that we went back to the front desk immediately and complained. They gave us another room which was exactly like the previous one. Damp and smelling of mildew. The hallway had a mildew smell which was covered up by some ungodly apricot smell. I would bet my last dollar that there are bedbugs in this hotel.
Another point, how do you have a parking lot and then charge every patron of the hotel $10.00 fee to park? When I inquired about this the woman at the front desk replied, well, they do that in Miami.
That brings me to the staff. I'm not sure if they are just so underpayed and disgruntled or if they have lost their zest for life all together. They were not even remotely friendly upon our arrival. They were also far from sympathetic to our complaints. I asked to speak to the manager on duty, they looked at me as if I spoke another language. There is no manager on duty. I cannot believe they left the inmates to run the asylum.
I travel for a living and this hotel is something that one would most likely find, frat boys drinking themselves stupid in, people on Crack cocaine binges, and prostitutes. I'm not joking. This is the worst hotel I have ever step foot in and I have been to some third world countries that have had some pretty shotty hotels.
Don't do it. This place is a dump! -

Terrible, terrible Hotel. Please have a great time in Fort Lauderdale and stay away from this place.
It had an amazing lobby, I will give them that. We got impressed when we walking in, but our excitement started going down as high as the elevator went up.
I put a few pics to illustrate my point. Bathroom was totally beat up, cabinets falling apart with some weird things growing out of the bathtub overflow cap. Gross. Towels were dirty and shower wouldn't stop dripping.
Bed was terrible. Like in a basket, both of us would lay on each side and roll to the middle of it without noticing it. We got the room as a Hotwire deal and were supposed to get a king bed but instead got stuck with two full-beds. We asked to change room and - at least - the front desk person was honest and said that the quality of mattresses would be the same on all of them, even the real king size beds.
At 3am when we couldn't sleep we gathered our stuff and went hunting another hotel so unbearable this place was.Listed in: Our trip to Florida

Beggars can't be choosers, and when I had to make a last-minute trip to Fort Lauderdale I took a hotel because it was available.
Oh, and I hadn't considered that it was also the beginning of the Spring Break season. Which, by the way, am I just getting older, or is every college girl about 20 pounds heavier than when I was that age? Or is it just now there is some rite of passage that says she should expose her thighs & belly, no matter what they look like or regardless of the circumstance?
But I digress. Sometimes luck shines down upon the defenseless. Ocean Sky wasn't the greatest hotel, not by a long shot. But it was clean, it was on the beach (always a bonus) and the hotel restaurant at least provided decent food, even if the wait staff was inexplicably tardy when it came time to pay the bill. The wireless worked without a hitch and wasn't painfully slow. Throw in a pool and the requisite hotel tiki bar and you at least have something palatable.
They do make you valet park your car (no self-parking), which always sticks in my craw a bit because I want to be able to get in my car and go whenever I please. SIDEBAR: Who came up with valet parking, anyway? Why in the world would you feel superior because someone is parking and retrieving your car? If you've really got money and want to show it while you blow it, hire a chauffeur. Anything less than that and you're just a poser. No wonder I can't stand L.A. and many of its denizens. Valet parking is yet one more silly ritual so Angelinos can show how rich and sophisticated they are to each other.
Ok...end of sidebar. The best memory I'll have of this place is the drunk boy who showed up as I was checking out (at 6am), and he was looking for a room. He had obviously come to Lauderdale without lodging, and was going to every hotel on the beach looking for a place to stay. The crestfallen look on his face when the desk clerk told him there were no rooms (as he heard at the first 25 hotels he stopped at) was priceless. -

My friends and I were in town for Springbreak from California, and got this hotel by bidding on hotwire. I had really low expectations because from the pictures of the hotel it looks run down. However, the rooms are definitely nothing to ride home about. They are small, and outdated, but clean. What is nice, is the lobby is completely remodeled and it is really gorgeous. There is a concierge, arcade, business center, restaurant, and store in the lobby. The pool is unreal. It has a tiki bar, and a pool that overlooks the ocean with tons of lounge chairs to choose from. We could see the ocean from our patio in our room. They also have free valet which was great.
Some gripes:
It is a $15 cab ride from the main downtown area of Ft.Lauderdale Main Board Walk, so that kind of sucked.
There is an additional $20 dollar resort fee charged to your card per day.
Checkout and checkin took FOREVER.
For young people looking to SPringbreak this is a nice hotel that is affordable. -

The sad thing about this place is that the website looks like it the hotel was flown in from the cayman islands...
Ooo woe is the sucker who is lured by the flashy html...
upon arrival, this fee and that fee was strapped on to our bill including a 1 dollar safe fee that we didnt even use because the safe was broken.
the cherry on top was the cockroaches down by the pool bathroom. YES!!!! -

Restaurant review only: BLAH! I agree with the others about the servers. Friendly but sooooo slow with tending to you. There was nobody there and we were surrounded by dirty un-bussed tables. The waitresses would come out and look lost trying to remember what they were doing then grab a couple dishes from one of the dirty tables leaving the big server's tray behind. They never completed one table. Super inefficient. (can you yell I used to be a server?)
I never got a coffee refill.
Breakfast food was BAD! The potatoes were of the pale under-fried variety. On all the unbussed tables were plates full of uneaten food but especially the potatoes went untouched. The eggs and sausage were ok. OJ tasted part fresh squeezed and part dish water. Blah!
On top of ALL that, it was pricey for crappy food. Total bill was $35 for 2 people. Do NOT eat breakfast here. You're better off at dunkin donuts down the block. -

Wow, this place is so misleading. You look at their website and you think what a great place. You show up and the lobby does look good. Then you go up to your room and are slapped in the face to see a roach motel. The doors to the room are run down. You enter the room and find dirty comforters and dirty carpets. The balconies are separated by a plank of wood so that everyone can have an ocean view. Some staff was really rude possibly from dealing with all the unhappy customers. Also was promised a king size bed and got two doubles.

The majority of the front desk staff were pretty nice, paint is peeling of the walls in the hallway and the carpet in the hallways were really dirty and smelled rotten. The room was ok for the price around $60 a night but at least it was CLEAN. the air worked perfect and you have a balcony that if you look to the east you have a partial view of the ocean. but you have to make sure to LOCK YOUR BALCONY DOOR! there is no privacy on the balcony you can walk right into the room next door. the bed linens were clean and the t.v clear. But heads up the cleaning crew comes through at 930 am so you have to remember to put up the do not disturb sign. The food in the resturant was a lot better then you would have thought and access to the beach was great. you pay $5 a day for valet even if you don't have a car but you can park the car yourself and keep your keys as long as they put a tag in your car, but be careful mostly compact spaces

Clean, reasonably priced and directly on the beach. Rooms were outdated and the hallways were worn out. Bed was comfortable. Hotel staff not so friendly but not rude either. Happy hour at the tiki bar was fun. Location was great, very walkable to local grocery store, restaurants, salons, liquor stores and the Lauderdale by the Sea area, which has great restaurants. Would I stay here again? Maybe.

Ocean Sky served our group fairly for the purpose of a clean bed, beach location, and within walking distance to enough restaurants and bars. Views (can be) incredible from the decks, beach access is excellent, beach chairs available for $5 a day. Room service was fair - a pretty good menu for a cheap hotel and surprisingly good food. The tiki bar is a joke - ridiculous prices for itty bitty drinks. Go next door (can't recall the hotel's name) to their beach bar - full staff, great seating, good dj and more reasonable prices (Thursdays are 50% off!) Concierge Ed was great - recommended Keese's for food and an efficient bus route to see a movie on a rainy afternoon. $10 shuttle available to and from the airport that is on-time and efficient. Housekeeping was lacking a little - never enough towels, late service, not thorough cleaning between nights - but the sheets were clean and bathroom was freshened every day. We went for spring break but were surrounded by old people - not necessarily a bad thing, but if you're looking for a drunk, young, rowdy crowd, look elsewhere. Overall, Ocean Sky was an acceptable hotel to crash after long days on the beach in the sun and close enough to walk to the fishing pier and numerous restaurants and bars.
