I compromised and gave this 3-stars because it truly deserves separate ratings.  The hotel itself is probably a 2 1/2 - 3 star hotel.  The location and price are definitely 5 star!... It's only a few blocks away from Waikiki Beach (Diamond Head), right by the zoo, plenty of places to eat within walking distance, etc...
The hotel itself... well, it serves its purpose of providing you with a place to rest your head at night.  Nothing fancy about it but it was always clean and that's pretty important.
But for the love of God, do NOT eat in the restaurant!!!  It's slightly more then nasty and there's plenty of places around it that are better.  Overall, Ocean Resort can't be beat when it comes to the price.
PS:  The outdoor pool is the coldest pool I've ever been to in my life!... don't jump in or you'll freeze!!

Check out the ocean view pic below and that is what our ocean view was. Note that it's between 2 other hotels though-
Room and location meets all basic needs-near the busline, near the beach, near a Starbucks...the shower does need to be moved a foot higher. We asked for towels when we needed them-didn't bother to have them come in to clean daily as the room isn't that large. It did have a small fridge and a balcony to sit on. Near Diamond Head as well-overall it was a regular beach hotel-definitely not luxurious but clean (no bugs).

Wow what can I say, I got the best bargain for my buck here. This hotel is only rated like a 1 or 2 star hotel. It doesn't provide so many amenities, but who needs them. If I were a sloth and can't do things for myself than of course I'd go somewhere else, but after staying here I must say, if the rates continue to be low, I definitely will stay here again.

The hotel has a front desk that's open 24hrs. Has a nice spacious lobby. There is a restaurant and bar located in the lobby as well, but I have not tried it. There are two pools on the 4th floor I think in between the two hotel towers. There's a gift shop and much much more. These basic things are all I need. Simple hotel for a simple man is what I say.

Overall, if you just need a place to sleep and don't care too much about room service and fancy amenities then Ocean Resort Hotel is the place for you. Very low budget, but big on value. The room I had is shown in the pictures section. I hope it entices you to stay here, if not then suit yourself.

3 word that describes DOES NOT describe the ladies of the night walking on Kalakaua but DOES describe this hotel: CHEAP, COSY, and CLEAN.

I made a reservation here the time I did the Honolulu Marathon a couple of years back. What memories. This hotel was close to the Zoo and the finish line, hence it was a no brainer that we booked it. It was not the cheapest of the group Hawaiian Air packages, but I believe it was the 2nd cheapest. It came out to something like $85 a night.

Once you get here and if you have a car, you will face some problems.. You will have to pay $12 for parking. That I can take. However, when the lot is full, they tell you to park at the Marriott parking structure 2 blocks away. Also, Paokalani is a one way street. You will have to come down Kalakaua to enter the hotel entrance. There is NO other way.  Don't think about coming down Kuhio to avoid traffic because the entrance is just a tad south. I guess if you want to go against a one way street, you can try, but I don't recommend it!

The rooms are clean, modest, with a very loud AC. The structure is not very high so you will encounter a lot of noise. During the time of my marathon, I could not sleep at all because the windows were not isolated to noise. Other than that, the rooms itself was nice, staff is friendly.

Tip: Once you have stayed here, they will send you a card to become a club member so you can get their special rates. I would stay here only if I was really on a budget.

I was very surprised to see the high reviews for this place, yes the value is killer for the location but the hotel is terrible. We got a view of some really crappy apartments with all of their crap on their patio. The beds are very uncomfortable, and we got two single beds in the room, oh and the shower must have been made for midgets because I had to bend over to get my head wet, and I am not that tall of a guy. The staff seemed pretty cool from my little exposure to them since I was there for just one night. I personally rather pay $30 or $40 more a night for a discount place in the same area that I know is going to be a nice place to stay.

Best hotel to stay at when you are on a budget. Usually online prices are under $100 and its less the a 2 min walk to the beach. Its near the end of Waikiki strip but everything is close by. Hotel rooms are clean but a little worn down. But who cares! Your in Hawaii! you shouldn't be in your room all day anyways.

This may not be the best hotel around town, but it is the best VALUE by far.  My wife and I had the Ocean View room, which overlooks Waikiki beach.  The room clean, a bit small, with a patio where you can lounge around and drink overlooking the ocean.  My inlaws came with us and they had the room with the kitchenette and it was a very good size which can easily accommodate a family of 4.  It is about a 1 minute walk to the beach and has an ABC store just a few yards down from the hotel.  We also ate at the restaurant on the lobby and I do not recommend it.  The food isn't good, but is not bad either.  I would suggest eating somewhere else.  Parking at the hotel is 15 bucks.  I suggest parking at the Zoo, which is 1 block down from the hotel at 25 cents an hour.

Value - 4
Convenience - 4
Cleanliness - 4

One of the cheapest hotels close to Waikiki beach you can find.  I have been there twice and both times the rates were under $100 per night.  Once it was $59 per night and the second time was $79/night.  The rooms are clean and very spacious.  You can get a nice room w/ 2 queen beds along with a kitchen.  The only thing I complain about is the parking.  The spaces are super tight and I feel like I'm in LA in the middle of Westwood.
