Open late, roast pork, won ton min, one too many drinks, after a soccer match. Enough said. The service was quick enough. Although usually, I go across the street for noodles, it sufficed.
Roast pork with a nice crisp layer, pretty good; like eating straight fat. Usually, I'd say "Never again" but it just means more running for me.
This place is bad. Really bad.
I'm actually shocked Yelp has this listed as "Ocean City Restaurant & Night Club". What night club?
Anyways, I recall when this was the ultimate place of Hong Kong style dim sum in the mid 80's. It was brand new, trendy, clean, and always packed.
Sunday afternoon, 1PM. Normally, if I wanted dim sum, it would not be this place. Jade Garden was a zoo, and I wasn't in the mood to wait for a seat with rude people in a cramped space. My friend wanted congee. We went to 2 other places, and they were packed. So, friend says, "let's do Ocean City!"
I haven't been to Ocean City in at least 15 years.
And there's a reason.
ALL the dim sum was cold. As in stale, cold, and not even warm.
The place was basically empty, there were a few non-Chinese people dining. HINT.
I complained about the 1st dish, the pork/beef meatball, which was not only cold, but bright pink. I asked, in Chinese, to have it steamed for 2 minutes. It came back, but I had lost my appetite from the other dishes, which I only had one bite of each.
The waitress comes and asked if everything was okay, or if I needed a box, and I politely asked for the check. She brought the check and asked again if I wanted a box, and I said no. Hell no. This food was purely disgusting. Who would eat this?
She was very apologetic and said she doesn't care for the food there either.
Never again will I step foot in "Ocean City Restaurant & Night Club". Barf.
We walked to Starbucks and I had coffee for lunch.
Whenever I need justification to go to Richmond or Vancouver for good chinese food, I think of Ocean City.
No, really.
The utensils were unclean, the food unjustifiably oily (the taste did not make up for it), and the service was a bit rude. I had their roast duck and a bean curd dish.
The saving grace of this place is that it's open late. As an Eastsider who still hasn't quite settled down yet, this is always a plus in my book.
There's better options nearby.
This review is strictly for the NOODLE CAFÉ ONLY!
This place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant...and a truly great hidden gem in Chinatown. They renovated the space in recent years and have all new staffs now. I miss the old lady that is always rolling up wontons...but I sure do love the young waitress that understands my orders.
Anyways, I always get the roast duck wonton noodles soup. The wontons are so well made..they're tight and dont disintegrate in my soup. The broth is flavorful...but the gem here is their roast ducks....crispy skins and lots of tender meat on the duck. Great BBQ flavor too. Sometimes I crave for more ducks...I would order just wonton noodle soup and a half order of duck just to satisfy my craving...and I get to take my left over ducks to lunch the next day.
This place is not that clean...but they have improved so much compared to ten years ago...Yes, I've been coming here for that long. My only gripe is: I wish they would serve the noodle soup and a bigger bowl with more broths. My bowls seemed too small to hold the noodles as they expand...and I'm always running out of broth before I finish. But all in all, I love this hole in the wall and will always come back for my duck wonton noodle soup!
This is not the greatest dim sum place ever, but it's certainly good, and practical: they serve much longer hours than a lot of places do, they're way easy to get to on transit *and* they have a parking garage, and the building is very easy to spot, all of which makes it a great place to meet up with friends for Sunday...uh...blinner. Of course, long hours aside, the times we've ended up rolling in at two in the afternoon, the selection was severely diminished relative to the tasty offerings earlier in the day (specifically: no egg tarts, no hot surface cart, none of the little sweet balls of fried deliciousness that are stuffed with...lotus paste, I think? and then rolled in sesame. Sad face.)
Also: CHEAP. Oh man, this place is so cheap. So much food; so few pennies. Cheap cheap cheap. There are not a lot of places in Seattle where three hungover college students can totally stuff themselves and then have dessert for twenty bucks, including tax and tip. This is one of them. This is why when I still lived in Seattle, we ended up here a lot; it was nice to know we'd get one square meal a week that didn't involve reconstituted powdered cheese sauce.
Warning if you come on a weekday: the dim sum buffet is less dim sum and more regular Chinese food, with the occasional dim sum item. Not bad, exactly, but surprising if you're expecting help-yourself dim sum.
Once upon a time I was a regular customer at Ocean City, of course those days were when Michael Jackson was still black and the dim sum was still good! OMFG! I am ashamed of what happen to this place! Like most people we were suckered into trying out their dim sum buffet for $8.99/person! Uhh.........thanks but no thanks! I'd rather settle for top ramen or banh mi somewhere else and it would've been cheaper too! Eck! Their dim sum selection was limited, over cooked, flavorless, and flat out disgusting!
The decoration did not change much from the last time I was there(back in the 90s), the place was pretty empty, and trust me I normally don't have much to say about Chinese food but the cooking here was abysmal! Also one last note, I'm sure this place would be great for kids but I just wouldn't recommend ANYONE to come eat here!
Dim sum is decent. Do not fall for the dim sum buffet though.
My friends and I fell for the deal, not a good ideal. There were limited dim sum choices and it was pretty much second grade food. But then again, most buffets are lower quality food. If you stay downstair and get the regular dim sum, it's probably a better deal.
All the times that I went, they were never busy. But still, that does not explain the bad service.
I used to love Ocean City. I've probably eaten in the main restaurant section 20 times and probably as many times at the noodle shop off to the left of the restaurant. That's why it just sucks that I was suckered in by their big dim sum buffet sign and all my fond memories of the place just got shot all to hell.
While $8.99 is a pretty decent price for a good buffet I don't think it was worth how my body felt after eating there. The food was super oily (I know, I know...dim sum is usually a bit on the oily side but this was over the top), the selection of dim sum was just ok, and the service was just rude. I understand that since I was dining alone I'd probably get seated with other smaller groups but I just didn't appreciate the glare the waitress gave me when I asked if there was any smaller tables.
Some of the other Yelps on this place mentioned it was recently remodeled - that may be true but I couldn't see it! Sorry Ocean City, I think your time has passed.
Concurred with all the comments here...
The little noodle cafe is all right.
All things are good there but just watched out for the pricing.
For example, just noodle and soup will cost you $4.75 but noodle and soup with won ton is $5.20. What a rip off for the vegan.
Other than that, noodle and BBQ meat are always good.
I loved to order two BBQ meat with rice. Then, I will order the 3rd BBQ meat (like a pound) for to go. When all food arrived, I can have all three BBQ meats. The left over to go will be my fried rice ingredient.
One more thing, the daikon cake is good there too. You may order it from the cafe too.
Taste Rating: 4 stars
From this review on I am adding another rating to my reviews: taste Rating. I consider the Yelp rating as overall experience rating.
I went to the noodle bar section of the restaurant which is the left side. I believe the right side of the restaurant is the actual restaurant.
We went to Ocean city with one mission. Try their BBQ pork and Wonton Noodle soup. Through grape vine, I had heard the noodle soup was one of the best in town. This turned out to be quite a challenge. Why?
First, the restaurant was FREEZING! There was no sign of heat in this place. We were commenting on how we can see our breath at this place. I look at my lady and said, "is it possible that it can be colder inside than the outside?" We concluded that it was possible because we were sitting in it.
Second, not the best ambiance. It really looks like the point of this place is to eat and leave. No hanging out and making a memorable moment out of this place. Although, it became pretty memorable for crappy ambiance. Not too clean either.
But, there is silver lining to all this. As we expected, the BBQ Pork and Wonton noodle soup was very good. It was so good that I actually said that I would go back to this place again. It was almost disappointing that the noodle soup was so good. Amazingly light yet flavorful soup with perfectly chewy egg noodles. That topped with savory and juicy BBQ pork and flavor packed wontons. The dish made the whole experience worth it.
If you are a person who can handle the "elements" and can appreciate the dish and not the ambiance. I would strongly recommend the BBQ Pork Wonton Noodle soup here. It is very affordable and delicious.
Funny thing, this review is not about the main restaurant but the noodle shop attached to it. I would give the noodle shop a five star before it was remodeled! I have been going to the restaurant and noodle shop since 1980s. I would safely guess I have been there over 100x in the past 20 years.
The old noodle shop was my favorite in all of Chinatown. I even took my Chinese grandmother there in 1998, she was 90 years old then, who said the bar-b-q pork was better than home (Penang Malaysia). The place was so good I even took my wedding guests there for our dinner in 2001!
Everything there is delicious. It was better when Peter was serving. I love their wonton noodle soup, always asked them for extra broth after I finished the first bowl's soup and they always smiled and gave me extra ladle. The bar-b-q pork and rice with lots of chili poured over the rice was phenomenal. The mixed vegetables with braised tofu and bar-b-q pork was another staple. The sampan moy (seafood rice broth) is my favorite for comfort food or when I feel like coming down with a cold. Just add small amount of soy sauce and lots of white pepper.
Sometimes I would drive in to just take home 2 or 3 pounds of the bar-b-que pork, or half a duck and share that with my neighbors. Use to be able to get lots of sauce (before the old crew left) but now they give out small containers.
The best thing about the place is, you can get a very satisfying dinner for two for less than $12!!!
The restaurant use to be awesome back in the 80s. The place would seat about 200 or 300 people and 95% would be Asian in origins. Now it has lost its luster. Not sure when the food changed but I don't frequent the place that often anymore. I had my 35th birthday dim sum celebration with dozens of friends there. Must have taken over 50 friends there. But now have not ventured in there since 2001. Must go in there once before end of this year to find out.
I wish I can give less than 1 star. I am amazed that people could give this place anything more than 1 star, so just to average it out I would need to give this place -100 stars.
The lunch time dim sum buffet is a scam of a deal. For about $9.00 you're supposedly getting unlimited dim sum. If you are expecting just the bare poor minimum then you'll be satisfied. However, if you are expecting an ounce of service and quality then you'll be on here bitching like me.
The lunch time dim sum buffet isn't a buffet in the truest sense. It's no where near Las Vegas buffets. It's not even remotely near Old Country Buffet level. This is something slapped together for a marketing sham.
There are 4 ways they limit the amount of food you can get in the "buffet."
The first way is that they make you use ridiculously small plates so you can't even put a decent amount on your plate. About 5 pieces of dim sum can fit on the dish tops.
The second way is that they only have one line for the buffet that takes a long time to get through. So if you had an hour for lunch you can realistically only stand in line about 2, maybe 3 times before you have to leave.
The third way is that they only have about 5 kinds of dim sum, which comes out in small amounts. Each circular container only contains 2 pieces of dimsum. This goes with the second way they limit your food intake. Since there is such limited supply of dim sum in the buffet line, people will just stand infront of the stands waiting for more dim sum.
The fourth way is that the dim sum overall is just bad. The Ha gow had the smallest shrimp possible and had an extra thick doughy covering. The buns with sweet pork were soggy at best. The spare ribs tasted oily beyond belief. The only redeeming part was the shu mai was pretty good. But remember, you could only get it when there were some in the buffet and the line wasn't long.
The nicest way to put it is, don't go there. I paid $9.00 and didn't get my money's worth. I definitely recommend you take your $9.00 somewhere else. After all, there are a bagillion and one restaurants in Chinatown. So since I took the the bullet for you guys, go enjoy your lunch elsewhere.
Ocean City
This place is one of those it's-1am-craving-for-something-anything place, they're open consistently late and have an excellent selection of Chinese food. However, that's the only thing consistent about them -- take-out experiences with them have ranged to mighty tasty (nom, nom, nom) to awfully nasty (stinky fish smell that lingered for days).
The dining room is small and quasi-cozy but if you're cold, don't sit next to the windows because they're drafty with minimal insulative properites. Order something safe like fried rice or a noodle dish without fish! And definitely have the barbeque pork.
Yeah, this place isn't anything to write home about but I know it'll be open when I get the post-festivities munchies.
Oh, Yeaahh!
I don't even think this place deserve one star.
I heard that they have a new dim sum buffet, so I walked in and asked "are you guys doing the dim sum buffet?" The hostess goes, "yes, come this way." That's how it started.
We waited for a good 20 mins to see the first cart with food. They had huge deep fried shrimp balls with sweet mayo, and it was good, but other than that the rest was not really fresh and the variety was limited.
Oh and don't eat the pork dish; it's basically piece of pork bone in lots oil. I guess some people loves to suck nasty oil out of bone with little meat.
The worst part is that when I was to leave, they said $39 for the total for two. it's supposed to be buffet for like $9 per person, so I asked. And the very same girl who told me they're doing the buffet told me that the buffet was only on weekday!?!? I told her that she had told me the wrong info, but she says no she didn't!! It's wrong to misinform, and it's terrible to lie on top of that. And another worker butts in to defend her, but she wasn't even there when I walked in so WTF!!!!!????
I will never go back there not only for it's low quality food but also for the stuff's rudeness. They need learn how to do business.
We went to the noodle soup part of the restaurant...tables were sticky, insects buzzing about the windows; not sure why we even stayed, I guess it reminded me a lot of my time in Hong Kong. I had the Barbecue pork soup with egg noodles and Chinese Broccoli. Pork was just like the way I remember it in Hong Kong...broccoli was lacking oyster sauce. My friend was disappointed in her fish ball w/ egg noodle soup. Prices were reasonable, but we would not go again.
terrible service. mediocre food.
We Jews needed our Christmas dim sum fix. Based on Yelp reviews, we stopped into Duk Li first, but (see review) it didn't meet our needs. The Seattle Native among us recommended Ocean City, so we headed over.
We got:
* Carts!
* A steamed shrimp OD
* Schmanciness (the light fixtures look like pink jellyfish)
* Fun attempts at communication
* A massive plate of broccoli rabe
* Tasty sauce - kinda soy + hickory smoke + vinegar
* Four people fed for $40
* A serious hard-sell
We didn't get:
* Sticky rice in banana leaves (they put pork in all of it. boo!)
* A waiver from the stupid rules (must have 3 of each thing; no mixing)
* Wowed
Where's the Hair?
I wish I could say something great about this place but I can't.
I'll keep this short, we went to dim sum here one morning and there was hair in our dumplings.
This didn't seem like hair on someones head. It was a patch of hair from lord knows where.
We grabbed our family members paid for our two food items and left disgusted.
Good luck if you want to eat here.
UPDATE 2/23/09 My God! How retarded are these folks. After improving things in the main dining room, and getting so busy at lunch that there was often a wait for a table, management has now set about destroying every credible component of the turnaround. Dim Sum selection has been reduced, many items are clearly frozen and heated in a microwave and lunch service is now on an all-you-can-eat for $6.95 basis. WHY?
I really want to line item the horror that is the Dim Sum here.
As I sit typing and reminiscing on the various poisonous qualities each little dumpling possessed I have to stop as I am having a physical reaction to my memories. My toes and fingers are curling and the gerbil is getting damn close to crawling out of my ass (metaphorically).
Seriously, anyone who wants to go in with me on a Yank Sing of San Francisco franchise here in Seattle drop me a note. I am beyond sick of the crap food foisted on diners as Dim Sum.
ADDENDUM: I see from other reviews that the "all-you-can-eat" "buffet" may be more expensive than i noted. If they're not paying you and throwing in health insurance and a barf bag, it's too expensive.

Ocean City gets a mixed review. What I like about this place is the noodle cafe (4 stars for food). The food is amazingly good, from the chow fun (what i always get), won ton soup, bbq duck, etc. They also have simple comfort foods like meat over rice. The downfall is that it is extremely cold and drafty which can really be a mood killer. Don't expect the door to be fully shut, ever. It's also kind of greasy and grimy in there, but if you can get over that - the food is good. As far as the restaurant side..it just feels dead to me most of the time. The dim sum selection is limited and not as plentiful (slower turnaround).
No place in this area is as good as Jade Garden,if so please add me to your friend list and tell me of such a place. I will go. We had our sights set on going to Jade Garden for brunch on a Sunday. ( I know what were we thinking?) Of course the line was out the door. So we drive around a bit. Oh goody this place has a sign for dim sum AND parking! Upon coming up through the elevator it had a Rush Hour 2 feeling, which I didn't mind. I'm a little upset with Jackie right now,but Chris Tucker is da bomb. We even sat near the window. The food was not a big deal. In fact I thought it was a bit more expensive than Jade Garden and not as good. When you read stories that chefs from Asia only get their dumplings there...well come on!
One interesting thing Ive never seen at dim sum was their mini chicken pies, but alas I could no longer stuff anything into my fat face. Their honey shrimp was just OK. I liked the shrimp balls with the sauce. The good news though was that its across the street from the book store,so of course this warranted some comics and toys! And my son got some, too.
"Minute® rice"-style rice - check.
Canned mushrooms - check.
Middle-age couple hosting their visiting mid-western parents at the next table - check.
Dishes appearing at random times in random order - check.
Crab Special... "just a few more minutes"... "it's coming right out"..."are you sure you want the Crab Special? The 'market price' today is $40." - check.
Giant, nearly empty, deathly silent dining room - check.
We didn't know what we were getting into, we just picked it at random after Maneki told us there'd be a 2-hour wait *just a half hour after they opened!* Now we know.
well, um, I came in at a bad tiem I guess.
I was given a menu and seated and nothing ele. I came at 1 PM. One person was payign and left. The other 6 all had food. I waited and waited. The waitress had gone somewhere. I left.
I'm lovin' the all you can eat dim sum from 11-2 for only $8.95!! Especially on Mondays where there is much more variety.
Between meetings, a few of my co-workers decided to grab a quick lunch. After walking two blocks, we came across Ocean City and decided to give it a try. Over lunch, the Dim Sum is served as a buffet, which was different than we expected, but acceptable. As we were waiting in the long buffet line, one person from our party stepped away to use the restroom. When he returned, he noted that an employee had just come out of a stall and walked straight out the door... Hmmm...
As I'm not familiar with Dim Sum, it was impossible to know what you are selecting. I did just fine as I am willing to eat almost anything, but others in my group had a difficult time.
Going back for seconds over a quick lunch is not really possible as the line was too long, but the sign on the buffet threating an extra charge for uneaten food makes you wonder how much to grab. Compond this with the fact you don't know what your eating! AHHH!!!
Service was poor to non-existent.
Side note, I really enjoyed eating lunch while watching "Cops" - it really seemed to feel like the perfect match for the rest of the atmosphere.
If you want a good deal, cheap, quickie Chinese food late at night- this is your spot.
Hot Meat Sauce over rice.
It's no classy gourmet food; it fills you up and doesn't hurt your wallet.
Dont expect much in terms of service either.
O
My
God
Words could not describe the vileness that is this place. My visiting friend wanted Chinese food and coming from NYC the bar was set pretty high. I looked up a few places and settled on Shanghai Gardens across the street. When we got there though, we saw this place and though... "looks good, let's try here instead."
Sat down in the dining room to the right (apparently there's another place on the left?) and proceeded to take our coats off. My fiance noticed that the table was dirty, they had butcher white paper on the tables over the table cloths and the paper had brown spots on them. Like large brown spots.
Mid coat removal, we decided on the next table..same thing. But we were like wtf, let's just sit. Looked at the metal jug with water and there was ... fuking hell I kid you not, food particles stuck on the jug. Opened the menu, it was all dingy and overpriced.
Nothing on the menu seemed appetizing. Decided right then and there to go across to Shanghai Garden. When we were leaving, the host rushed up and asked us to try their other restaurant but we weren't brave enough.
I'm always so sadly disappointed that there are so many Asians in Seattle area and not enough authentic Asian restaurants.
I have to admit, one of my reasons for going was the large amount of old Asian people, not like I collect pictures or anything , but in my past experience when a lot of old timers go some place it means it's good. When it pays off, this method usually really pays off.
I think they were being held hostage or forgot to take their medication, because the food was very similar to something I had on a road trip, from one of those big truck stop restaurants/mini casino/ grocery store/ gas station jobs...in Kansas.
Also the staff was beyond rude and wouldn't seat my dad and I for almost fifteen minutes an a half-empty, tiny space.
Its ok but not a very good or great place. We came here because my father-in-law was impressed by the size of the place. It also has free parking which helped because we came right before the Seahawks/49ers game.
We ordered all our usuals (congee, meatballs, shrimp balls, etc...) Everything was ok but the flavors did not stand out. The congee just didn't have the flavor it should have. My in-laws' complaint was that it was not piping hot like it should be.
The service was fast and efficient.
This place is the true cheap hole in the wall. There are about 20-30 total seats and the food is ultra cheap. From the won-ton noodle soup to the duck and chicken plates its all greasy and probably not very healthy.... but its cheap very cheap. Plus they are open pretty late so its actually not a bad place to come to help disapate the booze you've consumed earlier in the night.
That said, its a bit of a dump, but then again if you're trying to disapate booze you probably won't care.
Go to the noodle-cafe side of the restaurant (to the left), and you won't be disappointed, especially at the cheap prices. I'm not a big Chinese food afficionado, but everything tasted like what I imagine home-cooking Chinese food would be like. Their wonton soup was really good because they put a lot of care in the wontons -- each filled with shrimp and pork. I also had their pork fried rice (because that's what I like), and it came out just fine -- not-too-salty, while letting the BBQ pork assert its salinity and five-spice goodness. The beef chow fun tasted ordinary.
My one turnoff was that it didn't seem that clean -- but maybe that's more a reflection on my clean-freakiness than on the restaurants in the ID.
If the prices were higher, my rating would've gone down by a star or two. So go here for cheap eats!
After walking past Ocean City and noticing that it has been finally redecorated and repainted, I decided to try it out again after a year away. I must admit, the facade looks great and demands attention. I went to the noodle cafe part. At first glance, I was impressed that they changed out all the table and chairs. Everything felt squeeky clean and there was actually service. (I hope they burned those old chairs and tables that had 10 layers of 20 year old grease.)
I ordered wanton noodles with fish balls. It was average, nothing to write home about, but their fish balls does have a nice springing texture to it and not spongy. Was tempted to order the bbq, but decided to wait till next time.
Probably would go back to try the restaurant side and see how it next time. If you are looking for a clean, decent place, Ocean City would be a good choice now.
Seriously...a night club? I didn't realize this place was so happening...
Well, there are 2 parts to Ocean City (and I guess a magical 3rd part...the night club). Go up the stairs and on the left side is a smaller, casual restaurant. To the right is the more formal restaurant. I've never been to the formal side...mainly because it is always empty, then it got renovated, and remains...empty (at least during the times I visit).
But the left side is full of delicious food! I personally think they have one of the BEST crispy noodles dishes (it's a tie between here and Tai Tung). One dish is enough to fill up 2 people, so I usually share that with a side of chinese broccoli. Their fried rice is also good (and very large). Their wonton noodle soup and congee are just ok. If you're only in the mood to eat these 2 dishes, I suggest you wander across the street to Canton Noodle House (prob the best and cheapest in ID).
So 4 stars if you go for the noodles! But in general, it stands a solid 3.5 stars!
wow people are rough on this place. maybe we went on a good day. the crowds were just big enough that we got served pretty quick, and it was pretty fresh. my favorite was the little frying cart! yum yum. they're pretty heavy on the ginger though.
if you don't feel like waiting in line at the other places, this is a fine substitution.
There is beef tendon at Ocean City, as my great-aunt's husband informed me, and so I met them there for lunch. It's not the most appealing-looking place in the world, and I've never seen it crowded, but the point of a restaurant, when it comes down to it, is food, right? The food here is good. Not only is there beef tendon, it's good beef tendon, and there's good sticky rice chicken (wrapped in a big leaf), and good spareribs (the friends I invited here for my birthday, being for some reason fat-averse, didn't think so, but --why eat Chinese food if you don't appreciate a good seepy lump of fat when you see one?), and good roast pork buns, and all the other normal dim sum stuff is fine too, I suppose, if you like that sort of thing. Myself, I can't stand seafood, so my dim sum tastes are a little bit skewed.
You can get nice big plates of vegetables, too, if you order them separately.
This is for the Noodle Cafe part!
Ocean City serves Chinese cuisine and is right next to Uwajimaya. When you go up the stairs to the restaurant, instead of going in the door on the right, which is the fancier restaurant, go to the doors on the left, known as the Noddle Cafe (same company but more casual).
I've never once been disappointed here and the prices are amazing, especially since the portions are all huge and they are ridiculously generous with meat. For a bowl of noodles with roast duck and 5 pieces of huge wonton, it cost about $5.65 or so before tax. I'll guarantee that you won't find that price anywhere else with that much meat and noodles! The chow mein, rice dishes and so forth are just as amazing. This is one of two of my favorite restaurant in Chinatown and it's open until like 1am or so. The place recently went through some renovation also, so it's a ton nicer inside than it use to be. O, and the food comes out pretty quick 90% of the time (depending on how busy they are), the only downside I'd say is that it's quite difficult waving a waiter/waitress down. Plus, since there are mostly window seats, there is a draft! which is horrible in the winter.
Just so you know, there are two parts to this restaurant. The side cafe to left or the main restaurant to the right.
First off the side cafe - More like a counter with a heat lamp and meat behind glass. My friends and I used to frequent this place after a night on the town. The things to go for are the noodle soups with your choice of meats (Duck, won tons, fish balls, etc). The chicken is al-right...but I've never been a really big fan of the Chinese style BBQ chicken or pork. I'll eat it you know, but I usually head straight for the noodles and soup.
The main restaurant is really spacious and red. Very red. When I went there for Dim Sum, the place seemed very empty. Maybe it was a slow day, but overall the dim sum was pretty good and it was nice to get that instant service. Also the Dim Sum servers were not abrasive like at other places.
Bottom line, the side cafe is a great place to get a filling bowl of noodles for cheap. The main restaurant is nice spot to go to on lazy weekends as they have their own parking lot underneath the restaurant. That way you don't have to drive around in circles to find parking.
The place is a 3.5 but I could only give it a 3 as it doesn't deserve a 4.
Food and pricing weren't bad if you ordered something off of their noodle menu. But if you went to the pretty reddish menu, it was much too expensive. The dishes averaged around 11-12/plate =( Chinese food should never be that expensive!
My friend got the fish congee, I got the roasted duck and soy sauce chicken plate, and the young fried rice. I liked the congee's texture and taste, until my friend mixed it so much that it was watery XD The fish was a bit bland but I guess we could have dipped it in the chili oil. The duck was good but not the chicken, much too overcooked. As for the fried rice, well, if it was JUST fried rice, it was good. But I got the YOUNG fried rice. I could've sworn that that dish came with a raw egg broken on top of the rice...and that it was supposed to be more liquidy than how the dish came.
The waitstaff was very nice but why would the guy pack up our food for us but not give us the bill? Well, the bill came out to, roughly, $25, without tip. Oh! And their utensils and plates are a tad...not clean x_X My chopstick stuck to my finger o.o;;
Where do you go when all the restaurants on your short list are closed on New Year's Day?
You head to the International District and pick a place! Any place! This place!
Our group ate in the dim sum side of the restaurant. It was practically filled to capacity and there were quite a few different carts roving the aisles. Maybe it was unusually busy because all the city's "standard" restaurants were closed for the day? At any rate, it was full of all sorts of folks and we were happy.
It was so busy that we had trouble getting someone's attention to bring us water after we'd started out only asking for hot tea. Eventually, though, one of the servers ran back to the kitchen and emerged with glasses for everyone...and she wasn't the "water" waitress, either.
Despite some language difficulties, every waitress was so friendly and kind, trying to explain what was inside some of the various items. We had a couple of "pesky" vegetarians (they eat fish and I forget how that kind of veggie person is spelled), so we were trying to separate the shrimp from the pork dumplings. And we were mostly successful, which was great.
worst dinner experience i have ever had. The food was pretty disgusting, the service rude we had to ask for our check times and each time they treated us like we were idiots when all they were doing was counting their tips and trying to get out of there. I left wondering how this place even stays in business. Don't even bother....seriously not satisfied
