I thought Seattle would have great farmer's markets.  Boy was I wrong.  Nothing beats the OB Wednesday market.  I miss the warm pretzels, gorgeous $5 bouquets, sweet Geisha plums I cannot find ANYWHERE else, Schmitty's jerky, all the dogs and their crazy owners, but mainly my friend Amanda: my perpetual date at the farmer's market.  Oh San Diego, I will see you soon!

The food is cool.  You got your variety of pastries, breads, roasted corn, kettle corn, candied apples, fruits and veggies.  Cool drinks.

Nice jewelry made of coconuts.  I thought that was interesting.  Unique necklaces and bracelets.  Their stuff here is definitely, hands down better than stuff at the Del Mar Fair.

Some cool clothing gear.  Lounge Fly and Good Life to name a few.

And yes there are a lot of hippies crowded around listening to the music and chillin out.

Definitely worth checking out.  It's different.

I love Wednesdays because Luna and I play with her doggy pals at Fiesta Island and then we head over to our favorite farmer's market. She likes all of the dogs butts she gets to sniff, the lady that sells the dog cookies, and  scamming for random bits of food that have fallen to the ground. I like Mr. Hidalgo- he sells THE best flowers I've gotten anywhere, the sambussa stand, the little couple on the north side of the street who sell plants and grass for my cats, the french crepe stand (try the turkey and avocado w/ harissa sauce- delicious!!),and Jackie's Jams. The crowd is mellow and it's fun. It's like a big carnival in your own backyard. I brought my friend's daughter once and I swear she went on the llama ride at least 4 times- between that, the balloon dude, and the kiddie tattoos she was set for the night and I was a superstar without breaking the bank.

ALL OF THE SKETCHY PEOPLE COME OUT OF THEIR WORMHOLES ABOUT 7:30 PM...BEWARE.......

This is definately one of my favorite things to do in San Diego...  Besides the lack of parking (no big surprise), there is nothing bad that can be said about it.  A wide variety of products: beautiful flowers, art, fresh fish, jewelery, pasta sandwiches...  something for everyone!  If you are feeling daring you can even ride a freakin llama around.  If you havent been there, you are missing out!

One of the most overrated things in San Diego.  Of course, it would not be nearly as overrated if it was called something like 'OB Weekly Streetfest' rather than "OB Farmer's Market.'

I do not come to something called a 'Farmer's Market' to listen to rock bands, look at jewelery, buy T-shirts, or fight my way through a blockade of people standing in line waiting to eat overpriced and not-very-good African food.

This gets more than one star because it does have a few booths that actually sell -- believe it or not -- fresh produce!  But two is all it gets because these are a) not cheap, b) sparsely sprinkled throughout the commotion they call the OB farmer's market, and therefore c) a pain to search for.

I am NEVER leaving Ocean Beach, and the farmer's market is a huge reason why. I walked down there tonight, tasted some fresh veggies and fruit, grabbed a watermelon lemonade and a roasted corn on the cob with sprinkled parmesan cheese and watched a rockin band (along with a dude tripping so hard he never stopped smiling). It wasn't enough so I ate a spinish, feta and tomatillo tamale while I jammed out to a funky bluegrass band that assembles toward the 8:00ish end at the west point of the market. Walked my happy ass back home with a bag of freshly picked sweet peaches and plums.

Go Wed from 4-8pm. It rocks. Lots of great produce, gifts and a beach to watch the sunset.

Grab your cash and head to Newport Avenue between Bacon and Cable on Wednesdays from 4-8.  I recommend taking several laps around the market to make sure you catch everything it has to offer.  Handcrafted, funky jewelry, candles, baby clothes, OB wear, and even NFL gear,  take up most of the side lots.  The outside perimeter will lead you past fresh fruit and veggies, homemade baked goods, made to order crepes, East African food, kabobs, olives, nuts and dried fruit, smoked fish, fudge, and tamales.  You will also find beautiful and reasonably priced flowers and some of the best hummus and dolma I have ever had.

The soundtrack for this experience is a series of live local bands, endless chatter and bargaining, and children giggling on llama rides...yes, llama rides.  The guy who does the spray paint "paintings" at the Cable end provides the rhythm section has he shakes his cans...and he definitely worth a stop.

The OB Farmer's Market is a weekly event not to be missed.  Hopefully I'll see you there.

One of my favorite "free" things to do in San Diego.  Great way to break up the week.  Most of the time I don't even buy anything but it's fun to just walk around and check things out.  Buying veggies here is definitely the way to go...so cheap and fresh!  Love the samples of hummus, bread and dipping oil, and chips and salsa.  Fresh flowers galore and so reasonably priced!!  Lots of cool jewelry vendors as well!

If you need a Tamale, a cookie, some Tupelo honey, ice cream, kettle corn, a new t-shirt, to hear a new band, some African fried food, new earrings, Middle Eastern cheese, come here.

They close a city block on Newport Ave every Wednesday in OB, my hood. I've never been disappointed by this little adventure.

There is music (this could be improved consistently). You can bring your dog, what more could a girl ask for?

If you have kids there is stuff for kids too.

But bring cash, OB is mostly a cash only place, we are stuck in 1952.

One of the coolest things to do in SD.  It's every wednesday night...year round.  The atmosphere is amazing...tons of people...food....nick nacks, etc.  I used to read palms here many moons ago.  I love watching the people.  My favorite spots...The HONEY couple: they have every kind of honey you could want and if they don't have it they know how to get it.  They're a really sweet couple.  The COOKIE spot, my husband loves the coconut macaroons and the oatmeal cookies, I like the peanut butter cookies: they're vegan.  Check it out.

If you live in OB, this is the greatest break in the week. You can just walk around sampling the same foods all the time, but it never gets old! If you have dogs, kids, grandparents, a blind date, this is a great place to just RELAX and take in all the greatness that is this weekly event. Take a stroll down to the pier to watch the sunset (depending on the time of year) or head into Sunshine for a half-price pitcher =)

Veggies are delish and make sure you cook up some of the fish that you can pick up down on the south Bacon side because they ALWAYS have great big sizes of fresh fish.

I usually don't venture to OB that much, but the farmer's market occasionally draws me in because of its eclectic folklore and haphazardly interesting booths.  One of my favorite jewelers usually exhibits her beauties next to the man referred to as the "crepe guy", and that in itself is a treat: enjoying a chocolaty crepe while feasting my eyes on worthy jewelry is pretty cool.  Plus, they usually have live bands and other funky acts that are sure to liven up the atmosphere of this non-standard and fun open air forum.  Definitely painted with a very local brushstroke, check it out!

Those hippies sure know how to party. Yes, I'm going to mention hippies in almost every one of my Ocean Beach reviews. I'm an ass.

Speaking of asses, the  Ocean Beach Farmer's Market kicks a lot of it. It's more active than your typical farmers market. There's usually a live band or two, a lot of crazy performer people and tons of shoppers and dogs. It happens every Wednesday afternoon. Not to be missed my friends, not to be missed.

It is possibly the coolest farmer's market I have ever been too. Sure it has the required produce and baked goods but it also has entertainment and character. Even if you don't need to shop, it's worth a visit. Try to snag a table at Theo's and people watch while drinking cheap beers.

awesome OB 'tude...everything under the sun here!  the leather goods are cool - scrap leather pieces made into cool cuff bracelets.  sometimes there is the guy that has wall-hangings made from wire with very witty sayings on them.  Produce is always fresh and you can sample fruits before buying.  all of the businesses on newport cater to the farmers marketing crowd as well with beer specials at sunshine company, etc.  lots of people walk their dogs down newport as well...just an all around fun/relaxing environment.   another special treat - roasted corn that you can have either on the cob or shaved off and served in a bowl - with your choice of seasonings.

BEST OF ALL, i go for my newest obsession...PANINIS!  The french guy (or the "crepe guy" as he is often fondly referred to) that made crepes has recently started his own business called "Seb's Panini" and they're even more delectable than his crepes - believe it or not.  every time i've gone, his stand is closer to starbucks, across from the parking lot that is usually home to the clothing/jewelry vendors.
