In my opinion, a great BBQ place needs to smell like... well, ...like they've cooked the BBQ on the premises!! This is EXACTLY what I had experienced today. I wanted O.B.'s to have a smokey-hickory scent to it as I walked through the door. My mouth started to water as I approached the counter. My main question to the hostess: "Do you have pulled pork for your sandwiches, or is it chopped?" "You can have it pulled, OR chopped." YES!!! That's the answer I have been waiting a year to hear!! Plus, there was the option of Texas Toast, or on a bun. Sauce options were Hot, Sweet, or Mild. The pork, nor the sauces had a hint of that vinegar taste usually associated with a Carolina-style, but that isn't my issue. I'm OK with it being EXACTLY how I received my sandwich, HUGE! ...on buttery Texas Toast, AND... with some of that charred pork I so desperately crave.. My requested Hot, and Sweet sauces were served on-the-side, and I loved every drop that I dribbled between the bread and meat.
Having passed the Pauly C BBQ Taste Test, I am excited to know that O.B.'s is open 7 days a week!  Like my Chick-Fil-A craving that seems to ALWAYS come on a Sunday, my BBQ cravings can be fulfilled when I'm in dire need of my "Q". They have a great, reasonably-priced menu which includes beef and pork varieties, fried catfish, shrimp, and an expected sides selection.
O.B.'s must really pack in the crowds on the weekends based on the amount of indoor seating, and they must do a pretty good lunch crowd on the weekdays. I had arrived around 11:20am today (Wednesday), and I was served my to-go order within 5-6  minutes. Too bad too, because I was getting quite relaxed in the rocking-chairs they have in their waiting area. By the time I was in my truck. and 3 bites into my sandwich, the parking lot quadrupled with parked cars, and a steady flow of lunch-crowd patrons were heading towards O.B.'s front doors. Business seems to be very good, and most likely had been for many years.
O.B.'s isn't going away anytime soon, but don't hesitate to get your BBQ-lovin butt out to McDonough (exit 218) as soon as you can!!

My wife and I ate at OB's about 5-6 years ago and were not impressed. The BBQ pork was mediocre at best and the "smoked" turkey was a thin, circular piece of what appeared to be processed turkey (i.e., it looked like Oscar Meyer Bologna.) As for being "smoked" my wife described the flavor as being like they had opened a package of turkey, waved it over some smoke and slapped it on a bun.

We decided the other night, on the way back from Atlanta to give them another chance. We were just as disappointed. We should have known something was still wrong when there was only one other table of people there for dinner (i.e., if the locals aren't filling the place up then they probably are not any good.)

I ordered the beef brisket and it was flavorless and had a BUNCH of fat on it that should have been trimmed off. My baked potato was the slightest bit under-cooked but otherwise ok. The cornbread was awful and I had to send it back and request Texas Toast which was fine. The Brunswick Stew was not bad. I would order it again.

My wife ordered BBQ chicken nachos. They were not too bad but they would have been better if the cheese had been drizzled over the top instead of all being on the bottom of the plate. The chicken could have been shredded better. All in all, compared to the brisket, the nachos were okay.

We ordered chicken tenders for our son. The coating was barely there which was a problem because without it, there was NO flavor to the chicken. Worse than that, the chicken was tough as rawhide. The fries were okay.

The decor was typical of a BBQ restaurant. The booth we sat in was comfortable but the cushion had a bunch of rips in it.

The waiter was nice but clearly did not know the menu well. When my wife asked what came on the chicken nachos all he could say was chicken and BBQ when it turns out there was also some sort of cheese. When I ordered the brisket and for a side the "X-Large baked Potato" (which is how it was listed in the menu) he said there would be an extra charge for it. That struck me as strange because it was listed in the menu along with the other side choices for the dinner entrees. There was nothing in the menu that said it was extra (unless you wanted it with cheese or "loaded" neither of which I requested.) We got the distinct impression that he just guessed it would be more since it was an "X-Large baked Potato" despite that being how they listed it on the menu. In the end, there was no extra charge which is another reason I think he did not know the menu well.

I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

Hello readers, Me and my husband shared a wonderful first time experience at o.b's Bbq wedenesday night. We walked in to a very welcoming enviorment with lots of smiles from the staff there. Being it was our first time I didn't know to much about there food or what they had to offer, so after many questions to my server, and with some of here sugestions me and my husband had a very enjoible expierence. I myself ordered a catfish fillets dinner, with a baked potato and brunswick stew and some hushpuppies. Let me tell you they have some of the best catfish I have ever tasted!! It was cooked perfecly and so tasteful, And there baked potato was the biggest potato i have ever seen, brunswick stew is something new to me but I will say it was delicious. My husband had a full rack of baby back ribs with cole slaw and fried okra and Texas toast. He loved the ribs and I couldn't help but to try some and man o man they were delicous. I could taste such a strong smoked flavor and they were so tender. There Cole slaw was different then any cole slaw I've tasted it was a sweet Cole slaw and I loved it! If your looking for a true authentic Bbq resturant this is the place. We will be back very soon!!!!!!

I want to like this place more. I really do. The food is actually pretty good. I got the beef brisket which was very good. Tender, beefy flavor, juicy, and it mixed relatively well with the sauces. Speaking of sauces, they have a hot, sweet and mild. All of the sauces were fairly good. The brunswick stew is excellent and the BBQ baked beans were better than average. They could use a bit more BBQ sauce.

The highlight of the meal was the fried pickles. They were very good. The portion sizes are well above average and the service was great! So why two stars? The price!

At dinner you can get a burger or a sandwhich for around nine dollars. That is not bad but the cheapest typical bbq meal here is around eleven dollars. It just seems like everything is priced 2-3$ more than the average price for this type of food around the area. The food is good but I can get a comparable meal for cheaper elsewhere.

First off be warned - they do not sell beer!!!
    Brisket was very good
    Green beans - very bad
    Nice mix of sauces
Our server was terrible - could not keep the orders straight

Overall a good dining experience only because of the company not the restaurant. I'll pass this one by next time

Baby back Heaven is what you will find here. These were easily the best fall-off-the-bone ribs on my Southeast BBQ tour. It 's not just the ribs, it's the tangy sauce bursting with spices, the crunchy hushpuupies and an unusual baked sweet potato served up with a side of Brown Sugar. The ribs are the main attraction, basted with that sauce and just melting in your mouth with flavor. A half-rack will do ya, but go for the full because you will left craving more. This si not a chain either and that makes it even more special.

I didn't have any of the issues that the previous reviewers seemed to have.  I had a great experience at OB's.

What drew me to OB's was the large barbecue pit which is indeed "out n back" and can be seen from the freeway.  What led me to eat here 6 times during the 21 days that I was working out in the McDonough area was the great service and yummy food.

First off, if you want good service, guaranteed, ask to be sat in Jennifer's section.  She was my waitress the first two times that I was there, and I made sure to ask for her every subsequent visit.  She was friendly and professional, and never screwed up my order.  Being from the Bay Area in California, she could tell that I was not an expert on barbecue, and she always had great suggestions for new foods for me to try.  The one night that she was not in, the replacement server was just as nice and made sure that I got all of my food in a timely matter.

As for the food, I usually ordered the #3.pork, ribs, and succulent brisket. The pork was my favorite. The hot barbecue sauce makes your mouth warm and is oh-so-good! Baked sweet potatoe side was the icing on the cake!  I also enjoyed the sweet tea, and that's something that I usually don't like.

Overall I really enjoyed my visits to OB's, and will make sure to stop by again if i'm ever in the area.

Worst ever--sorry I brought my girlfriend by accident- they used to have a good reputation but I fear that they buy BBQ in a can or ready to microwave pouch.

The server was nervous even to ask us how the food was. A shame that so much money can be put into a bbq resto and the food be so bad, and I mean bad. For me to say the worst ever bbq is saying something considering I have over 100 places under my belt.

    Out

    Worst bbq ever

I used to LOVE OB's but something wierd has happened.  The wait stuff was really friendly, but seemed very out of it.  Our food was dry and lukewarm, the mac and cheese looked like something out of a Kraft box and was definitely made with powdered cheese.  The salad bar looked nasty and as they were closing up I saw them recycle the nasty wet lettuce for another day.

I don't know what happened here but I suspect they must having some financial problems as it was DEAD at 7:30 PM on a Saturday Night.  I will give the other location another shot over at the Tanger Outlet, gotta love a half rack of ribs and two hot fried catfish filets.  I won't be returning to OB's on exit 218.

When it first opened about 15 years ago, this was a great barbecue place  But it's gone down hill in the past  7-8 years. The last time I ate there, the pork sandwich was just so-so, kinda dry. When it first opened you'd have to wait in a long line to get in! What a shame it's been allowed to deteriorate. I probably won't go back.

I came down from Boston and was craving some BBQ.  This place was delicious and had amazing prices.  I had the fried green tomatoes, pulled pork, and beans -- all were great!  The servers were extremely friendly and the food came out very quickly.  I loved it so much that I went there twice during my 4-day stay!
