LOVE this place!!! Burgers are excellent and not small at all. Side salad has an awesome dressing, that alone fills you up. Our group ordered a side of fries that come with 2 dipping sauces. The fries are thin and crispy. I would say the only thing that keeps me from coming here more often is the price. Gotta try it!

Here's the deal. I was hungover (recovering from a wedding the night before) and I wanted something that would quiet the angry noises coming from my starving belly. Luckily, this place was walking distance from my hotel and totally got the job done.

I expected it to be larger, much larger...like Cheesecake Factory size. Mostly because it's attached to a mall and has an enormous sign out front. However, it was almost tiny with about 15 tables. I liked that you placed your order at the counter and then they brought it to you...quasi waiter service.

I got the veggie burger and it was so flippin good. I love veggie burgers and order them almost everywhere I go, but this place makes my top five best ever. The patty itself was so yummy, but then the fixins on top (avocado? yes please!) combined with the hearty bun made it phenomenal. I really liked that it comes with a side salad and was pleasantly surprised how good the vinaigrette was that came on it.

However, it wouldn't be a hungover feast unless more grease was involved which is why we also got an order of french fries AND onion rings. They were both delicious. The fries are covered with seasoning...more like garlic than anything else. And although there are only about 8 onion rings per order...they are hybrid onions that are about the size of my head. Plus the seasoning in the breading makes them beyond satisfactory. Both sides come with ketchup and ranch for dipping, which was nice to switch up every other bite.

I am somewhat disappointed I won't be back to San Diego anytime soon, and one of those reasons is I won't be able to hit up O'Brothers. If you live here, you are a lucky bastard.

Bottom line: the best choice in my opinion @ Horton Plaza, good burger, and you do your piece of saving the world and eating better! btw, they also have vegetarian choices! - if you want to eat EVEN better!

Tasty burger, perfect portion. I got a cheese burger which was just the perfect size and the cheese was extra sharp which added a nice richness to the burger. The generous side salad of mixed greens, tomatoes, and feta nicely offsets the meat.  I also got a side of fries, which I didn't really need. But you gotta have fries with a burger! They were string cut and didn't strike me as anything special, altho they came with two sauces.

It seemed like there were a variety of bottled organic beers to choose from, but since they are so obscure I simply asked for a hefeweizen and the girl offered me a stout!!! So beer knowledge is definately lacking.  Gladly my friend was there reading the labels and I got a delicious 20oz Heff. All told bill = $18. A little spendy but i was certainly satisfied with the food and beer.

Went here for lunch during a business trip. Nice people! Nice place. Food was average. Like the organic nature and the fact the food is organic but the burger tasted as if I made it at home. I'd go back but just not in a hurry.

Good burgers! Had the big O and the fries. The fries were the way I like them--kind of like macdonald fries but with parsley and served with ketchup and a garlic aioli. The burger was very good. Had gone to the burger lounge on Coronado island earlier during our trip and this was definitely better.  I have had better burgers in LA though so it gets 4 stars.

Ok...this review is long overdue.

*Love the concept:  yeah for organic!

*Owners very nice (BTW they are personally taking your order & cooking your burger)

*Decor is nice & modern w/ large windows & a great view

**Most importantly the food is great...had the portabello burger which was really tasty, topped w/ thinly sliced tomato & onion...the best I have had!  Great side salad...healthy option instead of fries, but I ordered fries anyways!! hee hee.  The fries are crispy, shoe string w/ garlic & herbs.  Also had the organic onion rings which were good but I preferred the fries.

Came here w/ a group of about 15 people & they were very accommodating in putting tables & chairs together, even though this place is small & the place was busy at the time.  The census from our group was that these burgers were tasty...others had the big "O" w/ avocado, bacon, cheese, tomato, onion (I tried a bite of this burger & it was tasty...although I don't like beef) and the 5 dollar sliders.  They also have a nice selection of wine & beer.

Very nice addition to Horton Plaza.  Mondays are 1/2 off burgers & $3 beers.

My boyfriend and I had a mini-date here because we had a coupon and were in the area.  It's worth saying that in my opinion the "organic food" concept, while given lip service in the mass media/gvmt and elitist crowd, is pretty unreasonable for regular people considering how dramatically it inflates the prices/negatively affects other hardworking farmers (it's especially unfair given SD's proximity to Mexico).  ANYWAY.
The hamburger is pretty small for $8-9, and comes with salad instead of fries.  The salad was good at least.  The burger was meh... maybe it was the seasoning, but ironically the meat tasted exactly like the sausage patties from McDonald's.  I only recently started eating meat regularly so maybe I don't have enough experience, haha.  The onion rings were okay, too heavily seasoned (with a strange herb combo) for my taste and accompanied by a pathetic amount of mediocre ketchup and ranch.
Oh, and the drinks.  Honest Tea is of course always delicious, but the organic soda literally made us gag. Yeeech.  I'll take Coke any day over that swill.  One of the girls working was cute/smiley/nice, but the other one was wearing booty shorts (at work? around food?) and was rude when she took our order.  No tip, *itch.  Would not eat here again, even though it's clean and does have a fantastic view from the 3rd (? hard to tell at Horton) level of the mall.  Head upstairs to the mongolian bbq place if you're at all concerned about eating veggies...

I thought the burger from here was mouth wateringly delicious. Organically raised beef paired with fresh fixens on a warm Kaiser roll is the name of the game here folks. If your looking for a great lunch or dinner that caters towards the healthier side of your burger craves O'brothers is worth tangoing with the dread Horton Plaza parking lot to check out.

This being said, I'm gonna go out on a limb and compare the burgers from here to the idea of me having children at this point in my life. Here are a couple of comparisons I have made.....

1. Like kids these babies are little. About maybe half the size of a burger from any of the powerhouses (Rocky's Hodad's) around town.

2. They are really cute and fun. Besides being little they are presented well which almost makes you want to give it a hug before sinking your teeth into it. They're also really delicious and fun to eat because they throw a party in your mouth and everyone is invited.

3.They are made with all natural ingredients and are served with a salad so you could probably eat one of these a day for the rest of your life, and live a relatively healthy lifestyle. Like my future spawn I'd do anything for that.

4.Finally, they are really expensive. Plan on having to make sacrifices to other facets of your lifestyle to afford these. While about 10 bucks for a burger (with no fries or drink)doesn't sound extremely steep, refer to comparison number 1.It'll make you realize that to adequately satisfy your hunger you'll probably want to eat 2 or more totaling who knows how much dinero.

In conclusion, I loved the burgers from here but I'm just not ready for the sacrifices I'll have to endure for the commitment of +$20 meals in order to be full. When I'm rich and a ready for that it'll be just the 2 of us.

I'm going to add 1 additional star for free wifi, and friendly service.

I ate at this place Monday and by Wednesday I had already gone back a second time. Food is organic so you don't feel heavy and gross after eating like you do when you have a regular burger. Staff recognized me when I came in my second time. I heard the manager give a gentleman a free burger just because it was birthday. Most restaurants don't do thoughtful things like this for customers. I was impressed.

I love organic food. Well not really, but if your a vegan, or human and you need a good burger that is organic, this is the place is it. The portions are small, but that is good considering everywhere else is over portioned, o'brothers offers a variety of meals that are moderately priced. Everything in o'brothers is organic from the meat, to the napkins, its truly a vegan heaven. The food tasted fantastic and didn't lack anything but more food. I was happy to eat here, and am going to go back soon.

This place was so yummy!!!

First of all, when you see a place that is serving organic products, you should know that the prices will be a littler higher than those of like McDonald's and Burger King!  Second, it's in Horton Plaza therefore they have a great location which also means, prices will be a little bit higher than normal.  Third, the place has a trendy feel to it so not only are you paying for great tasting burgers, you're also paying to eat in a clean place with great people!

Continuing on with my review:
I got The Big O' which came with cheese, bacon, avocado, tomato and onions!  It was SOOO good! Very moist and very medium rare like how I requested!!  It was so good!!! It also comes with a side salad too!! Dressing was awesome!!!

My boyfriend got the Western which came with onion rings, bacon, cheese and homemade BBQ sauce!  Super good too!!

We also got sides of the onion rings and fries!!

Honestly, everything was so good!  The onion rings were fried to perfection and they used sweet red onions too!  The fries were so addicting!! They had bits of garlic in em! MMmmmmm!!!

Not sure what everyone is talking about with the portion being small.  My boyfriend and I both agreed that it was pretty big.  We both couldn't even finish all our food! He finished his but was stuff, I was sad and I had to throw some of mine away cause I was too full!!

Really great place!!  Great food and great service!!

Burgers are alright, minus the fact that the meat is wafer thin. Organic soda was terrible. And the "organic" salad oddly resembled the costco brand salad. WAY overpriced. Maybe it's just me, but organic  food isn't worth the price.

I've only been here once, so I'm sure that, once I go again (and I probably will go again), I'll have a better idea of this place.  As it stands, my review is based on one visit on a Friday lunch hour.

Organic burgers--the idea is intriguing.  I know, it's California, everyone thinks organic/healthy type food is de rigeur, but, to be honest, it's not often you'll see a place that's strictly organic, especially in terms of burgers, especially downtown.  That in and of itself is enough to pique my interest.

I ordered a cheeseburger.  The prices are a bit high, but that's to be expected from an organic burger place in Horton Plaza.  The burger itself is okay.  I didn't really think it was anything special, but it was a solid burger.  What I did like is that, instead of fries, it came with a salad.  (Minor points off for my asking for balsamic vinaigrette and them giving me ranch instead.)  Fries are a side dish that you have to order separately.  Keeps in with the whole healthy eating vibe and I tend to prefer salads, so I liked that.

The downside--and part of this was timing, I'm sure--is that we had to wait a long time for our food.  Plus, the restaurant itself, since it's in a mall, is pretty small.  We were waiting outside just because there wasn't room for us all to stand and wait for our food inside.  The inside of the restaurant looks pretty nice--I agree with the reviewer who said it had a trendy feel.  It would have been nice if it had been a little bigger.

They also had organic sodas and beers that I'll have to try whenever I go back.  I was initially thinking about going back for happy hour, since it looked like they had a decent deal (something like $4 or $5 sliders, plus discounted drinks), but one of my co-workers had the sliders and it ended up being just a regular burger cut into four.  Maybe not so much.  Still, I'll probably come back, if only to write a more thorough review.

i really like the concept of the place, and the space itself is cool. the food is really pricey for what you get, even for downtown, and especially for lunch.

last time we went, there were three of us and we each ordered a sandwhich (burger, portobello and chicken) with two sides and no drinks and our total was more than $40. it was just sandwiches after all, organic or not. i was really annoyed that i paid nearly $4 for onion rings and we literally got 5 pieces of onion ring. nearly a dollar a ring? seriously??

i actually preferred the chicken more than the beef, but the food was well-flavored. i can tell the owners put a lot of thought and effort into the place and i really wanted to like the place more, it's just way too expensive for what it is. i would not object to going here if someone insisted, but i wouldn't go out of my way, either.

This place is just plain delicious, and on Monday nights all burgers are half off (about $5 each) so I had to give them one more star. Also, I haven't ordered a burger out since I was a kid so a place that makes me want to order red meat has to be good. I don't encounter many meals where after almost every bite I feel compelled to say, "Mmmm. This is so good!," but I sure do when we order from here. Try "The Big O" and the chicken burgers!

When I first saw the place I thought it was nice and the set-up looked really modern. As soon as I saw the menu I was a little surprised because the prices were steep. I know the whole angle on the place was that it was "all organic" but still...

We got our food and weren't that impressed. The food was good, but was a lot smaller than what I thought I paid for. The only thing I was really happy about was the onion rings.

Aww geez...O'Brothers somehow conjures up my midwestern accent, but seriously...this place had a fantastically juicy, yummy portobello burger-the likes of which could rival Ruby Tuesdays! I was glad they offered vegetarian friendly options (they also have a veggie burger), as I was expecting they didn't. My super delicioso mushroom burger came with some grilled onions on top. Something about a grilled onion on any sandwich is soo decadent. Loved it. My lunch mate & I decided to split an order of fries. They were deadly addicting. Shoestring french fries dusted with a garlic/salt/oregano concoction=you can't stop eating them. WAY better than a version I tried at another burger spot in Little Italy.

I understand the trend for organic based restaurants, but does that have to be at the detriment of me enjoying a cool crisp Diet Coke?  Unfortunately, at O'Brothers it does.  They have your Trader Joe's kosher sodas that are organic, but nothing close to my DC.

I digress, the burgers are moist and tasty, but not as big as I'd expect for the price they charge.  You have to order fries on the side.  I would come back here for a 1/2 off burger night, with my Diet Coke in my purse of course.

I'm not sure if it was the alcohol that made me think the burgers were good or if they actually were.

Along the same lines of Paula D. the meat was tasty but a little undercooked, next time (if there is one) i'll be asking for medium instead of medium rare.  We came here for the Happy hour which was "sliders and fries" for $5.  The "sliders" was basically 1 burger cut into quarters and the fries were very good.  Salty just how I like them.

Overall, good place but not any in-n-out. Best thing about it though is that they do serve beer!

I really love the thought of this place.
I loved the customer service.
I loved a free organic drink.

I did not love the price.
I did not like the fries with all this....green stuff on it.
I did not like the portion.
I did not like my burger.

Family or bro ran. They said it came out of bbq in the backyard of someone's house & they decided to come up. Nice decor. Not coming here, again.

I really enjoyed getting my "veggie" burger here aka no patty at all. It was still quite big and filling for having no meat and just veggies on it. It came with a yummy mixed salad which all this only cost 4.25 :) The bun was super yummy, I am not sure what they seasoned it with but it made my tummy smile for sure. We got their onion rings WHICH WERE HUGE!! It kind of sucked though because they had the moz sticks effect. The onions were so hard to bite off that they ended up pulling out and leaving you with the breading.

They have a nice list of sodas, however the 2 we wanted they no longer carried. That was a bummer :( The waitress a bit of a space cadet, I ended up wiping down our table because she was off in her own world. I am not sure if she was extremely bored and just wasnt paying attention or if she is naturally like that.

The food is good and worth the price in my opinion. Just be prepared for them not to have a wide variety of drinks as their menu says and make sure to wake your waitress up.

I finally had the burgers.

The meat was really tasty (although a little undercooked for my taste, we weren't asked for our preference)

The bun was a touch soggy

Enforced condiments?   Please  let me pick those out myself, I don't like that much mustard/ketchup on my food.

The tomatoes were good, nice salad, great service.

O'BROTHER this place is overpriced.  yeah.  that just happened.  i'll give you a second to collect yourself.

anyway, the burgers are very small for the price, and only comes with a salad.  the fries are purchased separately (i hate that) and they do the whole thin french fries thing that i am never a fan of.  but the staff and owners are very nice, and the burger tastes very good.  just need to work out those portions.  i also tried the onion rings once and they were pretty much like larger, charred burger king onion rings.  walk down to bare back for a better deal and a better burger.

The organic fad is everywhere but is it worth it? Having a cow that is grass fed does not make it organic as explained by the owners of Obrothers. It needs to be fed for at least 7 years with grass that is not sprayed with pesticides

Everything here is organic. Fries, ketchup, mustard, buns, sodas, beers, water, avocado, bacon, tomatoes, salad, and of course the beef. Once you hear the word organic.............two words comes to mind...........expensive and at least the cows are eating healthy. My response is the cow is killed anyway regardless of what it is eating.

If you are not into the organic fad then do not come here. You can get any burgers from anywhere for a cheaper price and probably a better tasting one. I personally can't tell the difference between the organic versus the regular. I probably need to be taught how to eat it. But.........for all of you yelpers who are into this, this might be a great place for you. This is more of a fast food type restaurant. The size of the burger patties are flat and small so be prepared to hit up another restaurant afterwards.

I heart O'Brothers!  They are totally organic which is awesome.  I'm not a beef eater so I have no opinion on their beef burgers.  But the Portobello Mushroom burger is to die for.  The mushroom always comes out super tender.  They don't overload the burgers with too many toppings or veggies so it's just perfect.  All burgers come with a side salad which is really good.  However, a side salad doesn't quite do it for me with a burger.  Thankfully they have both fries and onion rings on the menu.  I love the onion rings but the bf doesn't so we normally share the fries.  Fries have always been super crispy however they add fresh garlic and herbs so there have been a few times that there is more garlic with our fries then actual fries.

O'Brothers also has lots of organic beers and wines to choose from.  Best time of the day to go is during their daily happy hour from 5-8 or Monday nights when all burgers are 1/2 off.  I figure between saving money and eating organic I don't feel as bad for eating all the fried stuff!

After shopping with my best friend,
our hunger kicked it and we went
looking for a place to eat inside the
mall. By the food court area,  nothing
seemed to capture our eyes. So, we
decided to try out O'Brothers and with
our luck it was during happy hour,
meaning we each got a burger/fries
combo for 5 bucks!! which is a good
deal, knowing that a reg. cheeseburger+
fries will be about = $10! the portion sized
was right for us, the decor was nice, I
like the view of downtown below.
Things I love about this place are:

*Happy Hour Deal 3-6pm
*Everything is O-R-G-A-N-I-C
* Nicely Seasoned Fries! YUMMY!
* OH MY, the BURGER, LOVED IT!
I can say its one of my favoritesss.

you gotta try! but some people however
believe the portion is not big enough,
but for me including the fries is good.
GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY! :)

The price alone should discourage anyone from coming here.

This place is way too overpriced and its quite insulting when your restaurant burger is smaller than any other burger you've ever had. I might as well go to Costco and get myself some frozen White Castle burgers instead. I'm not saying the burgers were crap, they were delicious, but not worth $10. I'd pay $5 for that burger and consider it acceptable. I also ordered onion rings that were nothing special or memorable. I had one and didn't get anymore, overly crispy and hard, a little burnt too. Nothing special about the seasoning or the dip to set it apart. The salad my friend had looked so pathetic. It was just standard romaine lettuc salad. Once again, I'll go to Costco and get myself a Caesar salad with meat.

As I said, it tastes fine. I really did enjoy my burger, but looking back at the price, insulting.

i had a 3 day conference at the Westin, so everyday i would walk by and see O'Brothers... so one day after the conference i decided to give it a try... seeing how much i like burgers and what not... so i tried their "The Big O" and their onion rings...

the rings came first and i give big thumbs up for them... sure they were $3.25 but it was very tasty and not oily at all...

then the burger arrived... i must say i was somewhat disappointed... maybe coz it's way smaller than what i usually get from Vera's... but before any further judgment i thought i should take a bite... and yup... it was quite normal... but the avocado gave it more points...

then i had some of the salad... it looked rather ordinary but surprisingly it was very good... their ranch sauce was superb...

I came here for the first time with some friends about a week ago...We were not impressed.  First of all everything is way too expensive for what you get.  I ordered a burger, a bottle of tea, and some fries and it was over $16!!! You can get way more food for less money then this if you just walk over to Bareback Grill on 6th or Yardhouse right across the street.

It took awhile for our food to come out (it seemed that they were way short on help in the kitchen) and all of our stuff came out separately and it was hit and miss on what was hot and what wasn't.  The burger was very small and thin, and was served on a bun that seemed like it had been soaked in some sort of sauce combined with burger grease, and mine had soggy bacon and a brown avocado on it.

For the amount of food you get for the price, I would definitely recommend going somewhere else.  My friends and I agreed we definitely would not be back.

Went for Happy Hour, so I got a good deal of sliders and fries for $5.  The slider was a cheeseburger cut in four.  So, it was a good deal.  The burger was good, but I think Burger Lounge down the street (in Little Italy) is much better.  It's good, but definitely not the best.  BUT, I did LOVE the garlic chunks with the french fries, and the ranchy/aioli sauce that comes on the side was yummy too.

And yes, the food is completely organic, but man oh man, is that stuff shipped in from FAR away.  A better option may be locally grown stuff.

I was surprised that a meal so good could be ready so fast.  I was in a hurry but I wanted something healthy and low carb.  They fixed me up with a bunless burger with tomato and cheese along with a delicious salad.  You could TASTE everything, it had FLAVOR.  I will go there again for sure.  It was about $8 and I thought it was worth that.  The people who served us were friendly and attentive.  They should be proud for making responsible delicious food.

Leaving O'Brothers, I had two thoughts: (1) where should I go now for lunch, and (2) god, that really sucked.  If you like silver dollar sized sandwiches (I went with the chicken for $9) and ultra greasy fries (that have to be purchased separately at another $2.75) then this is a great spot for you.  On paper the premise is good: organic food.  Like Amanda J.'s lament over Diet Coke, my beverage of choice is brewed ice tea.  Not on the menu, but you can purchase a tiny bottle of organic tea for a couple bucks.  (Is it impossible to brew organic ice tea?)

Overall it's an unnecessary addition to the downtown landscape.  It'll be interesting to see what occupies that space come January.

I saw the adverts for this business as it was being put in, and I admit I was pretty intrigued.  I don't often go downtown, but I found myself at the mall yesterday before catching a performance at the Civic Theatre.  Why not grab a quick bite to eat?

Instead of hitting the food court, I figured why not check out O'Brothers.  Not completely sure how they got the name; but after paying $11.00 for a small burger and side of fries (no drink)....I definately was thinking "OH Brother!"

That isn't to say that the food isn't nicely presented.  Everything comes out looking very pretty; and the "look" of the food served definately says "organic."  To me, that is a good thing.

My review is based on the price and the actual meal itself.  I got a traditional cheeseburger and fries.  The cheeseburger bun was okay...soft...grilled a bit (so, had an added crunch)....Burgers are only served with tomato and onion (no lettuce or pickle...odd, I thought)  You are also given a side salad with your meal.  I don't care for salad...so, I didn't want it.  Thus, I paid $8.50 for a small burger with two slices of tomato and onion...ketchup and mustard.  Would be MUCH more reasonable (for the portion size) to pay about $6.50.  You can still give the side salad....and make money folks.

The fries were around $3.25, I think.  They were alright.  In-N-Out has better fries...and I think they are made about the same way.  Sprinkling green stuff on them and some kind of rock-salt does NOT justify $3.00 for a small bowl of fries.

The look of the restaurant is clean, and well put-together.  You can see the food as it is being prepared...A+ for presentation.

I'm sure some of you may be thinking it's pretty harsh to give such a low review if everything else was so nice (i.e. decor, presentation, cleanliness)...But, it's a burger place...and only a burger place.  If you are wanting to bowl someone over...they better be damn-good burgers.

I didn't finish the fries...and even left behind a bit of the burger.  My recomendation:  Not worth the money.  But, if you don't mind spending alot for food presentation...go for it.  But, you wont' be seeing me at a table nearby...nor the people that I won't be recommending the place to.

The brothers at OBrothers are great guys, and I applaud them for doing what they're doing!

The burgers are awesome. I get the Big O every time, with bacon and avocado. Everything in this place is organic, including the condiments and soda/beer.

The burgers are the perfect size, and come with a salad, which is great. Fries and O'Rings are available too, if you really crave them.

The sodas are organic, which is cool, but no diet... so, I usually bring one in from the food court, or Jamba Juice, but hey you might love them!  They do have some good flavors like grape and passion-orange.

Oh and the cupcakes are delish, but the cookies are devine! Try one...

I'm there quite often, and the location is not so high up as the food court so nice and quick street access when walking around gaslamp.

I have been by O'Brothers several times and hadn't been able to stop in and get my own opinion of their food.  Since, it seems that there are a few harsh reviews on here.  Anyhow, I didn't want too heavy of a meal.  So, I go the veggie burger and mixed green salad.  Unlike other burger joints they don't give you a gross gardenburger patty and call it a day.  Instead they grilled up some cheese and avo and stacked the veggies high.  It was really tasty.
PLUS, they let me try some fries. Whoa... topped with a cheesy/garlic.  But, not over-powering.  Topped off with a Honest Tea-I'm a happy camper!

Still 4 stars for this place.  I have to admit, it's a darn tasty burger... and it's juicy.  They have a special on Monday nights where all burgers are half off from 4-8pm (I think - might want to double check the time). That's great because otherwise, these burgers are way pricey.  They also have happy hour specials on other days of the week.

The people who work here were super nice.  I look forward to going back on a Monday for more delicious burgers!!

Can someone place what that interesting spice is in the burgers?  I swear it's like cinnamon or something.  I love it.
