Fine, thin hair anyone?

Yes, unfortunately I do have pretty thin and sparse hair and therefore not too many options for hair cuts. Wait....let's back up first. Why did I go to Obadiah Salon anyhow? Well, I just got my hair done about a week ago by a hair stylist I know well. She has always done an amazing job with my hair and I always trust her with whatever she wants to do with my hair. Well, this time, however, I ended up with frizzy hair starting at the ends and up a few inches. How horrible. My hair was standing up even when I combed it.
So I called the salon today to see if anybody can rescue my hair. I got an appointment right away with MAGNOLIA.
Magnolia! You are AMAZING! Not only was she super friendly and down to earth but she ended up being a specialist in working with fine and thin hair! Whohoooooooo! What a coincidence.
Magnolia was trained and worked in Stockholm, Sweden for 12 years where she had many customers with hair similar to mine. She had even special scissors and brushes, great sprays and conditioners just for fine hair.
I totally let her do whatever she had in mind. I just wanted my hair to look healthy again. My hair looks very healthy, it is glowing and on top of that the hair cut that she did for me now has a lot of body and makes my hair look much fuller. I am so excited!

So for all those girls out there with fine hair: if you all decide to see Magnolia now, remember I discovered her first! Magnolia make sure to keep some time available for me ;-)
By the way I also found out a lot more about which products I should avoid and what I can use for easy styling (without blow drying...). I can't wait to try out the products you suggested to me Magnolia. Thank you for being so talented and for having such a pleasant energy.

I've been to this place twice now and to different stylists and I'm not impressed. Almost $100 for a haircut and I came out with a mullet! A razor cut is not a shaggy mullet!  There was no creativity here just chopping and razoring. Sign of a very unskilled stylist because my former stylist in CA does something completely different. Cut is wrong for my face and my hair. I don't think she ever looked in the mirror she was just talking the entire time.

I know they have many stylists to choose from so perhaps I should keep trying. I was better off with my $30 cut from Tart (see that review).

Does anyone in WA know how to cut hair? I feel like I have to fly back to CA to get my hair done.  I've never had so much difficulty getting my hair done!

Regina at Obadiah Salon did my hair again and I came home not needing my anti-depressants.  She is a master of colour and cutting hair.  She knows your facial structure and she knows if your hair is fine or coarse.  My hair is fine (meaning thin), but I have a lot of hair and again today Regina did the magic.
She cut or "feathered" the right side of my bangs in a way where my hair just falls into place.  I don't easily give reviews, but I am giving this one because this woman knows what she is doing and she is a pleasure to talk to also!

I just had my hair cut for the second time and highlighted by Regina at Obadiah and she is amazing.  I am in love with my hair and what is so amazing is how Regina really listens and analyzes your needs and what will look best with your features and for your type of hair.  For me, I am a pretty low maintenance gal who only styles my hair once in a while.  Regina was able to understand that right away and gave me a cut that looks great and lies beautifully even when I don't use my round brush.  I have not been this happy with my hair in a long time.

This review is specifically for Chrissy and her waxing services "south of the border".  I'd really give her a 3.5 but wanted to err on the good side.

She gets a 5 for being personable and friendly, we chatted the whole time and she put me at ease.  The wax was slightly too hot but fine.  She also did a great job at getting ALL the hair - 1 of my biggest pet peeves for a bikini wax is when you go through all that pain and there are still hairs left over.

What I didn't like was that it hurt a little more than what I'm used to, which makes me believe her technique was a little off.  Twice the wax strip just tugged my skin instead of swiping clean because she didn't hold the skin taught enough.  I've also never had a wax where you have to (ahem) roll over and spread em.  Awkward but thorough?

I'd go again because for Seattle the pricing is on the cheaper side at $60 and she was a great girl who got the job done.

I love, love, love Holly Hansen at Obadiah - never really trusted anyone to do my hair until her.  She can do any color and make it look natural (I was bright blond to dark brunette) and cut your hair so you feel amazing.  On top of that she is just genuine and truly cares that your results make you happy - I always leave and come back happy!

Yay!  We have a winner.  I'm one of those unkempt dames who gets her hair cut 1-3 times a year, depending on a few factors: money, mood, and convenience.  Not to say that I don't care about my hair, because I do..it's just not so important in my line of work as a college instructor.  When all three criteria were met in addition to my dissatisfaction at a cheap chain salon several months ago, I was compelled to do a search on Yelp! and Citysearch (yes! I check Citysearch too) and I chose Obadiah for the good reviews and proximity.

Armed with a photo of a celeb whom I wasn't crazy about but whose cut suited me, I went early in the AM with a full head of long, dull, lifeless Asian hair, met my appointed hair fashionista, Serenity, and she did her magic.  Snip, snip, snip.  I came out with a cut that I actually wanted, rather than something I sort of wanted!

Coffee was served (although I found it hard to get the time to drink it much at all) and the place was clean and not snooty.  I hate snooty...and this place is not that. A little pricey but worth it if you want talented, intelligent hairstylists to work some magic on your hair.

I've only given 4 because this was my first trip. Subsequent trips will tell if this is a bonafide 5!

You can always spot the people who get their hair done at Gene Juarez; cause their hair looks as the same as everyone else who gets their hair done there. Everyone at Obadiah contributes their own area of expertise, and talent. There is no lack of style and talent here, and isn't that what it is all about. I want to go some place with personality with my tress, not some chain/franchise. There are no bad stylists here, but Shamra, Apryl, Gabe, Nathan, Serenity and Cliff are among my favorite people in the world.

I am very proud to say that Holly from Obadiah has been coloring, cutting, and styling my hair for 10 years.  After 6 years at being at Gary Manual down town she moved to Obadiah in Bellevue and I am happy about that!  Why?  Because everyone at Obd. is so friendly!  They take my coat, give me some rocket fuel coffee all with a smile.  Also they just remodled the salon and it is gorgeous and the parking is free.  And my Holly has nearly a private booth so I dont feel on display.
My hair is the MOST PERFECT shade of blonde with beautiful long layers.  When Holly styles my hair I look like a supermodel(and thats a huge stretch for me).  She is also extremely quick with her foils which really cuts down on time.  Have you ever been stuck getting your hair done over 3 hours? Yuck!  Im out of ther with cut and foil in 1.5 hrs.  Thanks Holly!

i dont know about the cut and coloring and the salon itself looks very bellevue worthy. SOOO-because the salon seems pretty nice, one measly star i shall give.

BUT-this is when and where my gloves come off and things get ugly.
obadiah's was the only salon with stylists that could come out to be on site on my friend c's wedding day at 7am. she went ahead and booked-then i invited myself along for her test 'do.

here is what ED, her stylist, made us feel like: S-H-I-T.
her 3 month in advance booking aside, he started us late & didn't start with a clear idea of what she wanted. he said okay...okaaaay...but once he got started...well, it was soemthing that left such a bad taste in my mouth, i will never recommend another girl i know to that salon. all my girls are too modern, stylish and elegant to go here.

he kept saying words like princess when we kept saying, nooo to ringlets, no tiara, as far removed from princess as possible.
I said, think waves, sexy unmade made up do, like a jcrew beach wedding.
he kept talking about nothing and then, when he gave my friend a F'n Bouffant and i said, this is not going to work and it wasn't the look we were going for, he blamed us for having him start too late (becasue we had been waiting out in the waiting area for him and had checked in and he didn't call for us...so he was behind schedule...yeah, tell me how that makes sense to you and fill me in)...then he got snotty because WE HAD NOT BROUGHT A PICTURE WITH US, ohh and he kept blaming me! He even looked at me, told me if i didn't like what he did to the bride again, it would be my fault and this second run would be one "that i can't redo again".

I can go on, but suffice to say, my friend, after the second run through even-when i actually demonstrated how high and what kind of stayl the up do should look like in th front with my own hair....she ended up taking everything down while we were still at the salon. it was that unsuitable.

please, if you have an updo crisis with your mariposa dress becasue you wanna look grown up for your first dance, by all means, ed could probably do a fabulous job and having you feel like the princess that you are.

if you are leaning more towards the modern look & elegance of waves and-well, anything that deters from what i described in the paragraph above,

ooooh and you don't wanna feel like a complete loser and have to massage your jaw all the way home because you were clenching your mouth because Ed makes you feel shitty...well, best of luck to you okay?

I once was lost but now I'm found...

This review will emasculate me (hopefully not completely) -- I love going to this place! The parking is free, it's near work and I can hop to the gym next door. So it might not be that perfect for you but the staff at Obadiah are friendly experts willing to help the lost find their way back to wonderful hair.

This is to Melody who's been cutting my hair for about a year now. Props to my girl Melody! Now I won't let anyone else touch it. She can turn this ugly mug into half-decent looking visage with a couple snips of her shears.

(I'm sure the other girls are good too...)

Because it is summer, I decided my hair needed to go a little brighter.  Had Stephen switch me up a bit, he put in some beautiful honey and blonde highlights to go with my already beautiful chocolate color.  It looks GORGEOUS I have to say..... Stephen is a color expert - he always knows how to put the right colors together.  Its been a little while since I have been lighter and I must say, I have missed having highlights.  All my features really stand out like my brown eyes.  It also helps having a good tan now.;)   Once again, another great hair moment thanks to Stephen! :)

Having spent the last 10 years living in 2 of the largest west coast cities, Obadiah Salon has a bit of pretension that cracks me up because it's in downtown Bellevue, WA - a city that IMO trys too hard at times.  Thankfully all the pretension stays behind the reception desk -- the appointment setting, phone answering, fake smiling greeter chicks that think 'they all that' and then-some with their snotty-ass, 'I went to beauty school but didn't graduate with honors so I have to stand here' and try to act like I'm hot in this way too trendy outfit kind of attitude.  So I chuckle to myself and move on to be taken care of by the true professionals who work there to get my hair 'did' and my brows waxed -- all on the level of service and professionalism I've come to expect from my truly pretentious peeps in LaLa Land.

Ask for Chrissy for waxing, facials, etc. (very nice and really good) and Vu for a top-notch color and hairstyle - but beware of Vu's ego (in an entertaining way).

After seeing my posting the manager of the salon called me and asked what they could basically do to get me to remove my posting. They should have called because the service to ensure I was happy after a terrible experience the first time around, and not just because I had posted my opinion on yelp.

Daniella is as good as they get  and I have now seen her for almost 10 years!  And although I'll admit to straying a few times, I always came back for the best highlights, cut, and blowout in town.  Love the blond!!! Daniella hair rocks.  The blowouts last days, and I feel as sexy as possible when I leave the salon with great hair! I have now moved to San Francisco and seriously am contemplating flying all the way back to Seattle for highlights!  Not only will you have great hair, the couple of hours you get to spend with her are always a blast.

Ten years with Daniella;  lots of colors, extensions, cuts, how many boyfriends did I go through?, but I always had great hair, and a good friend!

I had my hair cut at Odadiah Salon today for the first time--what a nice place. Apryl was great. My hair turned out perfect and she spent so much time patiently blowdrying my curly hair with a round brush. The style was straight with fabulous volume. I've already received compliments! I'll definitely be returning!

For all you guys who just want a really great haircut ~ you have to go see "Danny Lassman" at Obadiah Salon at Bellevue Place, next to the Hyatt downtown Bellevue. Danny knows his stuff - and he really knows how to cut a man's hair!! (oh, Danny's a wonderful stylist too). My husband has been everywhere, and all he wants is a great barber who knows how to cut his hair with a great scissor cut. But the "stylists" always want to "style" his hair, which sucks. He has a perfect head full of hair, and all he wants is a smart looking haircut, not too much GQ over-style crap, just a man's cut. Dig? Danny is the MAN!! I'm amazed - my husband looks great!! And he's finally getting a haircut by a barber who knows how to give a perfect executive cut!!

I came to Obadiah for the second time to get a hair updo. The first one was truly amazing, the lady made my hair into a flower petal and pinned it to the side for my prom night. Needless to say, I was always very impressed by the hair craftsmanship at Obadiah. The second time I went was actually this past weekend, where I needed to get my hair done for a formal function. I didn't want my hair to be too casual, or too done (or else it would seem like I cared too much about how I looked). Hence, I called up Obadiah and made an appointment. Regina was my hairstylist, and I told her how I visioned my hair to be simple, yet elegant. She understood what I wanted and began to work on it. Yet, the more time she spent on it the more I doubted that my vision was ever gonna come true. The front of my hair looked so flat and I couldn't see what she was doing to the back of it. She said my hair was bothering her and asked if she could snip some hair off. "Go ahead, " I said. But it just seemed worse. I spent two hours at the salon, and she redid my hair three times, assuring me that it was normal and it was okay. But the final product of my hair looked nothing like how I wanted to be, but I wanted to make her happy by saying that I loved it. It was unfortunate, I really wanted to like my experience there, but this time I felt it was time consuming and I didn't get what I wanted. I know that people have gotten positive feedback from the salon, but this is just my experience.

Interesting prior reviews..... I have NEVER had a bad experience there. I have been going to Apryl for years now and she has revived my hair from the sun in bleached atrosity it was to constantly being complimented on my hair. She listens, offers advice, and from there... works her magic. She has won the best of Western Washington for the past two years, and it shows. If you are looking for a GREAT hair stylist... go see Apryl. She isn't snobby at ALL, so friendly, so professional and you will never ever leave disappointed. :)
