74 reviews for Oasis Moving Company
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Moving sucks. That's why I would never subject any of my friends to helping me move. When it comes to hiring professional movers, Oasis is your best bet!
Remember the PLEY Holiday Party? We had about 2500 goody bags in boxes and a ping pong table to move. Who moved them from our office to the Exploratorium in a jiffy? These guys did.
When I had to move all my stuff out of my 1 bedroom apartment, who did I call? Oasis! For 2 men with a huge truck, the rate was a low $70/hour (the special rate going on right now). Everyone else I contacted was at least $100/hour for 2 men. And they worked fast! They even packed things up that I hadn't gotten around to, and wrapped up my furniture to protect it.
Quick and painless. Exactly how I like my move. And Brazilians, but that's another review.
I've been living in CA for 5 years and this was my 6th move. So I am a pro at moving. However, over the few years I've accumulated a good amount of stuff. I really don't have the energy or mental strength to do it myself anymore.
The 3 Oasis guys were awesome. They were fast and efficient. Highly recommend!
My situation: I had a two bedroom apartment completely packed with stuff...not only that, but heavy stuff. I knew I needed to hire movers since my new place is the top floor of a duplex with no elevator and maybe about 15-20 steps up. Wendy recommended 3 movers at $90/hour.
Packing it up: The reviews are correct in that the guys are super fast and efficient. Totally a well-oiled machine. They plastic-wrap everything to preventing dings.
Movers were very nice, and even tried to chat with me despite the language barriers. They speak Mandarin, and I only speak Cantonese.
Overall, a great deal for the money. However, some of my furniture ended up getting damaged. Wendy gave me no hassle about reimbursing according to their policy when I sent her pictures. Great service for what I paid, but would have liked a more careful treatment of my furniture.
Oasis Movers is your best bet for cheap movers who are also licensed and insured (we checked). They are Chinese and don't speak a whole lot of English, but at $70 an hour flat rate (some charge a "driving fee"), they were a good deal.
They were very careful, nothing broken or scratched (or at least not worse than it was beforehand). They also loan you wardrobe boxes (meaning you don't have to pack your hanging clothes until they show up, and then they just go from one rack to another). It took them just under 4 hours start to finish to do our move from a large 2 bed apartment into a house, but it was insanely hot that day and none of us
were moving very fast in the heat! Probably could have shaved a good
hour off if we'd had better weather.
Only reason it's not 5*s is because I don't feel like we saw them at their best (again, the heat) and because there was a lot of pantomiming involved trying to get past the language barrier. Still, for the money, I would definitely use them again.
My roommate and I hired Oasis to move us out of our two bedroom on Oak St. three stories up. The two movers showed up at 8am as scheduled and immediately got to work. These guys are not about chatting, they wasted little time and took no breaks. They were careful with our belongings and acted like professionals by the way they wrapped up delicate items and properly secured things to the inside of their truck so nothing moved during transit.
We paid $70 an hour with no extra fees. Definitely a good deal. No reason to use anyone more expensive unless you spent thousands of dollars on your furniture, etc.
These guys were GREAT. I recently used them to move across the city. We were moving out of a one bedroom place (that was pretty packed full of stuff). We were moved in 2 hours in 15 minutes all up! fast but they were really careful with our stuff.
In all, they were professional, knew what they were doing, didn't muck around and there were no hidden fees. i would use them again for sure!
I hired the Oasis Moving Company to move a 1 bedroom from SF to the south bay and they made the move a lot less painful.
These guys rock! They were very fast and efficient. Also I love the fact that they did not double charge me for commute(like most companies). They were very organized and took real good care of my furniture. They paded and/or taped everything. They also provided me with wardrobe boxes.
Wendy, the coordinator was very helpful and responsive.
She even called me to warn me that the movers might be slightly late due to the traffic conditions.
The only reason I am not giving full five stars is that the movers only speak Mandarin. So unless you know the lingo, communication might be an issue.
P.S.: These guys don't charge much for the move, so remember to tip the movers well. :D
Summary: clinically efficient (although a slightly late start), superb pricing. Excellent.
Our move went swimmingly. Both in fact. First we emptied our storage unit (Caesar Chavez and 101 to our new appt in NOPA). All done in 2 hours. Then the big move between apartments, and that was all done in 3 hours.
I have to say they weren't that friendly. Not unfriendly mind you. Dare I say grumpy? Actually they weren't grumpy, more silent. If you want standard Irish mover repartee use one of the others. If you want a solid, silent job - for about half the price, these guys are for you.
One complaint: both times, they were 15 minutes late, and they only rang the second time, once they were ten minutes late. But boy, they did an amazing job. No incidents. No "cigarette breaks". I forgive 'em.
We had a relatively complicated move (start at my place in Emeryville for my stuff, stop at my gf's place in Noe Valley for her stuff, and end in North Beach to unload), but there were no issues. We even had a relatively strict timeline as the building we were moving into would have charged us $500 if we weren't done by 5pm. Well, they got to my place on time and things went smoothly from there on.
As usual, I had way more stuff that I expected, but the 3 guys we had were all efficient. They were chinese and only one of them really spoke any English, though it helped that my gf speaks chinese too.
The rate was unbeatable compared to other well-rated places (Corrib, Pat Ryan, etc). In fact, the only way to get a cheaper rate than this place is to go with unregistered/unlicensed/uninsured place (i.e. craigslist). That wasn't an option for us as the building we were moving into required the movers to be insured and licensed.
At the end of the move there were no arguments about the tip. We gave them 20% and they seemed pleased. We also bought them lunch.
I did end up helping them unload to speed things along, but that was not due to any problem with their work... I had just underestimated the amount of time it would take (there was also a long walk involved at our destination). They were actually very nice about that too and seemed to appreciate my help. They seemed amused by my general lack of strength, but in a very good-natured way.
Anyway. Highly recommended. Very good and cheap, you can't beat that. I'll be calling them for my next move as well.
these guys were *amazing*. first off, the price quote was good, and they didnt try to nickel and dime me with hidden fees that other movers had (gas charges, waiting charges, etc etc). when we arrived, these guys were already there and packed everything into the truck w/ lightning speed. in no time, my storage unit was empty. next, they went to my house and emptied everything form there. once again, super fast. and they were so careful w/ everything, wrapped stuff in plastic that needed to be wrapped, put misc small items in boxes to keep them safe, etc. did i mention there were stairs? no problem for these guys.
soon, we got to our new place, and they unloaded the van really fast too... up *two* flights of stairs!
the whole thing, even w/ the extra stop at my storage place was done in no time. nothing was broken or scratched up. prices were great. i would definitley use them again!
I used Oasis Moving Company this past weekend (Friday actually)
I was a little apprehensive in the beginning after reading some Yelp reviews where the movers asked for a higher tip.
I talked to Wendy while making the reservation and told her about my concern, she acknowledged that the problem had been an issue in the past but assured me that they had dealt with it.
So 2 guys showed up (on time) - Bruce and Chung (I don't know if I got the name right). They worked at a steady pace, very professional, and were very apologetic when one of the shelves of a cabinet fell down (shit happens okay). Frankly they were being as careful as anyone can be. They were careful not to bump into any walls or ceilings, while working briskly. It was a 1BR move within the city and took us 2.5 hours total.
In the end my wife and I were very satisfied. At the time of payment, these guys looked at their watch, had a quick look at the check, said thanks, smiled and left.
I would highly recommend Oasis, if you have any doubts, call Wendy and ask for Bruce and Chung.
I Have Moved My Apartment More Than 5 Times After I Graduated From College, And Used A Different Moving Company Every Time. But Hey, Last Week, I Call The Oasis, WOOOOOW They Are The Best From Top To Bottom. First Of ALL, The Lady Who Picked Up The Phone, Wendy, She Is Very Nice, Told Me Everything I Needed To Know. And Made My Schedule Within 5 Minutes.
On The Day Of Moving, The Movers Came On Time And Very Friendly.
I Have This Huge Grand Piano Needs To Go Down The Apartment Stairs. First They Use Robe And Wrapped Up The Piano Carefully.
And Safely Got It Down To The Stairs.
THEY ARE THE BEST MOVING COMPANY, BEST SERVICE.
If I Gotta Move Next Time, Oasis Moving Company Will Be My #1 Choice!
This company is great for a quick move. I've used them twice and will definitely give them a call for my next move! First off, $70 per hour for 2 movers is the best deal in town. I had been warned that they are small Asian men, and was a little skeptical of their lifting skills, but no need to worry. They send 2 NINJAS to your house who just handle your stuff. A giant piece of furniture that doesn't seem to fit through the door? No problem! A giant dresser filled with clothes? Don't even worry about it.
These movers are fast and efficient. I moved my entire studio apartment into a new place, including rush hour traffic it only took 2.5 hours. The woman who schedules moves is very friendly and gets back to you very quickly.
I can't say enough about this company! Best value for the money.
AWESOME service. They were extremely efficient and offered an extremely great price. I moved a year ago from SF (1 bedroom) to San Mateo (1 bedroom), two movers arrived (early and ready to go!). I had run out of boxes the evening before, so I started stuffing bedding and clothes into big black garbage bags. No problem, they had these huge boxes they used to just pile my bags into. My SF building also had no elevators, but they efficiently took all my boxes (and bags) down with their pulleys (3 flights of stairs) and we were done in about an hour. We then drove to San Mateo and loaded everything into the new apt. It took 2 hours total including the drive. It was the best investment I've made yet. I'll be moving again further south and definitely planning to use them again. I just hope they service further down the pennisula!
These guys were PHENOMENAL- hands down the best deal I've ever found (and I have moved about 8 times to date). To be upfront, you need to know that there is definitely a language barrier with the actual movers (not Wendy), so if you have any Mandarin speaking friends this would be a great opportunity to put their language skills to work. That aside, it is totally worth it- these guys worked quickly and were unbelievably cheap (less than $100 an hour for 3 movers!). They had us moved from the Haight to North Beach in 3 hours flat. They wrapped and packed everything really well, not a single item was damaged.
I would recommend them to anyone planning their move...don't waste your time and money with over-priced companies. Use Oasis!
N and I got Oasis to help us move a few months ago and when my sister moved this past weekend, we recommended them right away. Wendy is super nice and will take care of all the scheduling details with you over email or phone. On the day of, the movers came right on time and worked their asses off moving our stuff - these guys have to be seen to be believed! This past weekend, they moved my sister in 2.5 hours - talk about efficiency! And when N and I did our move, our two movers perform the magical feat of maneuvering our huge purple couch into the new apt - to this day, I don't know how they did it.
Like other reviewers pointed out, most of the movers don't speak very much English so you have to be patient and/or creative with communication. Even though I'm Chinese, I speak only Cantonese so even I had to resort to creative gesturing at times. The good side of this, though, is that they waste zero time chit-chatting with you.
If we need to move again, we're totally calling Oasis again - considering their efficiency, they're totally worth the price. And honestly, I think they're probably one of the cheapest movers in town (I didn't research that many places so I can't say for sure).
I planned on moving on Saturday, but since they were fully booked, we moved on Sunday. I did a short 4 mile distance move from Santa Clara to Cupertino. The price was fair in comparison to other companies. Wendy efficiently sent their insurance information to the complex that I was moving into and everything went according to plan.
Our move was the first thing in the morning at 9, the movers arrived 15 minutes early which caught us off guard, but it was OK. Like many of the others reviews said, only one guy was able to comfortably communicate in English--once in awhile they would try to move something that I explained up front that I didn't need help moving (small boxes, bags, etc). They also took furniture apart that I never knew could be taken apart to make moving easier (like our recliners), initially I was nervous, but when it was moved in, they put it back together without a problem.
The move ended up taking 3.25 hours with 3 guys, which is understandable since I live on the 3rd floor and they needed to take all the furniture up the elevator and walk down a long hallway. Sometimes I wasn't sure what they were up to (hard to track all 3 guys), but since everything eventually arrived in a timely manner, I was satisfied.
At the end, I paid, and the guy tried to haggle 15 minutes for the 4 minutes I went over, but in the end let me have the 4 minutes. I also gave a significant tip, after which he tried to ask for more. I gave him one of those, "I know I gave you enough" looks, and he backed off.
Overall, service was good, on time, and well priced.
Wendy's hecka nice!
The movers are hecka nice!
Original Plan:
1st stop (Fairfiled) - washer, dryer, fridge, queen size bed and mattress
2nd stop (Emery) - Fish tank, foosball table, MJ table, dining table, couple boxes of crap, couch
final stop: el sobrante to unload
Est. move time: 3-3.5 hours
Reality:
1st stop (Fairfield): items mentioned above + 7 gigantic in door house plants, 5 very nice piece of asian cabinet/drawers/etc, 1 huge @ss tv with stand, a futon with mattress, and other misc boxes of items
Amount of full size mover truck space left - NONE
Load time (1st stop) - 2.5 hours
2nd stop - El Sobrante to unload. Moved old fridge to garage, installed new fridge. Movers hooked up washer and dryer. Mover also moved the existing piano from living room to bedroom per my request.
Total unload time - 3 hours
We did not make it to Emery for the second stop.
The original plan of maybe 4 hours at most move, was extended to 6.5 hours. The movers had no compliants. All we got from them are "ok"s and "no-prob"s, and with a smile?!
Dood, if I were the movers, I would be cranky as heck already.
But they were professional, and very very nice. I let them go without going to the second stop since it was getting late and I don't want to overwork them. The movers told me they weren't tired if I still want to drop by Emery. I just don't have the heart to send them for a second trip. I send them to dinner with a nice tip instead :)
I recently moved from the mission to lower haight, and used Oasis movers. I went from a 3rd floor apartment to another top floor apartment with narrow and winding stairs. The 3 movers were able to move everything out and in without a problem. I thought for sure they would take apart the huge sofa bed I had, but they said no they wouldn't need to. I was amazed how they were able to get it into our apartment and how quickly they moved everything. They have a 2 hour minimum, so I hired 3 movers and they finished just at the 2 hr. mark.
I researched different moving companies and Oasis seemed to be the best choice and very straightforward with rates. It's a flat hour rate without any added costs for driving, stairs, etc. I am very satisfied with my choice.
Guys were nice and pretty quick. It's really difficult for me to watch to watch someone work hard and not help, but I guess I had enough on my plate to keep me busy. They showed up ~30 minutes early which left me scrambling to disassemble my desk and bed before they got to them, but it worked out. Took them just over an hour to load stuff up and about an hour and a half to unload, 3rd floor, cross town, to 3rd floor :( This isn't white-glove moving service, but you're also not paying for it. Nothing was damaged, short of really minor dings and scratches, but they weren't gentle about it and my girlfriend was worried they were demolishing the stairwell based on the amount of noise being made. if I had really nice stuff I'd probably go with a higher end moving company, but I don't and Oasis was a perfect good fit.
I'm in my new 'hood! Putting the Yes in Hayes Valley.
Let's face it though, moving is always a son of a bitch. Oasis made it less so. The movers were an hour and a half late because of the torrential downpour on Saturday, but when they showed up, they made up for lost time. If you're looking for movers who are lightning fast, yet careful with your things, these are your guys.
Ummm.... so it turns out my couch was too big to get out of my apartment (how it got in there, I'll ever know), but just when I thought I was going to have to leave it behind, the guys took off the couch legs and even went so far as removing two doors from their hinges to make sure it got to my new apartment. Thanks guys!
Even with that debacle, the whole move took only 3 hours, and at $90 an hour for 3 guys, I thought it was a great deal. They did forget a plant of mine in the chaos of the sofa situation, but offered to pick it up and bring it to me the next day.
If you know any mandarin, bust it out with these guys. You'll have instant besties!
These guys are great! When my current roommate and I moved to the city we were strapped for time and really were just feeling a little lazy. Our friend's mom gave us Oasis' number and we gave them a call. We had them pick up my roommates furniture from Fremont, my stuff from Emeryville and finish everything in less than 4 hours. It was pretty amazing considering the commute time as well with their large truck.
Before this move I never used to hire movers because I'm pretty cheap and I just want to save a buck or two. After seeing one guy maneuver both of my couches up and out of my living room through the door with a tight apartment hallway angle and into the truck in 5 min. when it took my brother and I a good 45 min, I was sold. They were very courteous and treated my belongings with care. It helps if you can speak Chinese but it isn't necessary.
I'm calling them again when the dreadful day of moving comes up again.
This was an absolute nightmare! We hired 3 guys to move us from our apt in Russian Hill to our new apt in Pac Heights. Unfortunately our new apt building only has one small old-school elevator and the HOA demanded that we only use the elevator unless items would not fit in the elevator, then in that case, we could use the stairs.
The move took about 4 1/2 hours. They were fine in the beginning, but toward the latter part of the day, they started complaining about how this was taking too long. They had to take my roommate's queen box-spring up the staircase because it would not fit in the elevator. However, they could not find a way to fit it up the staircase either, so they refused to deal with it any longer. When we asked if they could try again, they adamantly refused and looked at us like we were crazy.
One older bald man even had the nerve to kick my shoes that were laying in the bedroom because he couldn't be bothered to move them. Then he grunted rudely. Finally, they finished and we paid them the $90 per hour plus $20 fuel charge and tipped them about 18%. They then all of a sudden spoke English and said, "What about tip?" We said, " We included tip", and the young guy looked at us and said, "Ugh, this isn't enough!" I was caught off-guard, so I gave him another $40. He still rudely complained that that wasn't enough still! Keep in mind, this was a tip over 20 percent, which after the rudeness my roommate and I endured, they definitely didn't deserve. My roommate then asked how much they expected and the guy, while laughing, said $100 each. We obviously said, "No, we already gave you enough, and you need to leave."
My roommate then escorted them down the elevator, while they kept looking at her in disgust and made spitting noises at her. She then asked them if they could at least put her box-spring in the back of her truck, since they couldn't get it into the apt and they said, "Nope, you didn't tip us." Oh and btw, the next day, we had some friends and family make one last attempt at getting her box-spring up the stairs, and what do you know, they got it up super fast! So basically the 3 guys from Oasis were just plain idiots that didn't know how to do their jobs! Oh and keep in mind, that every single piece of furniture we owned was terribly scratched up--yet, another example of how they were worthless.
WTF?!!! I seriously could not believe the lack of respect and awful service. I would never ever recommend a single person to go here. If I could give zero stars on Yelp, I would.
- *Wendy, the owner of Oasis Moving saw my Yelp review above. She contacted me to apologize, said she was going to do something about the awful movers I had and that she had know idea that they had such bad character. She also wanted to know how much I tipped them, so that she could write me a check for that amount because the movers did not deserve my tip. I received the check yesterday in the full amount of my tip. I really appreciated the fact that Wendy cared enough to make things right with me and I will consider using Oasis again the next time I move. Only because of Wendy, I will change my review of Oasis to 2 stars.
Yes yes yes. These guys were great. Extremely efficient. They showed up and just started loading away. They had some big boxes to pack up out loose ends and smaller items and the loading and unloading process was incredibly efficient. They worked in the rain without any complaints. They got it done faster and cheaper than could have been possible with anyone else.
We were so happy, we gave then a 45% tip (total for 2 movers), and it was still cheaper than any other moving quote or our previous move cost!!! Very very worth it.
They also had wardrobe boxes for our hanging clothes, so there was no need to pack/unpack these items. So convenient.
I used Oasis a month ago and they did a good job moving me into my new 2 bedroom apartment. They were diligent about pointing out if something had a scratch etc. on before they moved it so that they wouldn't be held liable. The move took 2.5 hours. They seemed appreciative when we gave them a tip but they didn't specifically ask for it. (Note: a couple of my friends said that Oasis movers asked them specifically for tips or detested the tip if they deemed it too low-----this was not the case with the movers we had).
My bed broke that night which got me ready to write a nasty review on Yelp, but Wendy and her team saved the day, kept their word, and came the following day to fix it. My bed is now in better condition than it was pre-move. I would use these guys again.
Pretty awful experience. The two stars go to Wendy because she was incredibly nice and helpful. The two movers did show up on time but they somehow took 5 hours to move 2 bedroom sets down Divis...hmmm...They also bashed a huge hole in my wall and when they were questioned about it all of the sudden they didn't speak a lick of English. They got lazy towards the final hour (maybe to stretch it and make it last longer?) and actually started carrying in one thing at a time. A few boxes somehow broke on the ride over and they were literally bringing one pack of computer paper at a time. Needless to say, I would look around for other movers.
These guys are fantastic!
They work insanely fast and efficient. We've used them for 2 moves so far and we never had to pay more than 3 hours each time, which included a 1 hour commute!
I would highly recommended them to anyone looking to rent a truck and some movers.
(Other moving companies require at least a 3-5 hour minimum, and they move a whole lot slower, just to get more money from you!)
Oasis gets 5 stars from me because they offered great value for what I paid.
They accomodated my last minute move. They got lost on the way to the new place but it's not super easy to find and they took the time off the final tab.
I've moved twice recently and other movers that charge the same per hour are much slower and not as careful. I pointed out fragile boxes and they were exceptionally cautious. They used blankets and pads on all my furniture and were fast and efficient.
Did they mention that my boxes of hardcover books and television were heavy? Sure. They are enormously heavy that's why I hired movers. I don't feel like they were complaining. They moved a lot of heavy things (including a stationary bike and a very heavy metal safe) down one flight from the old place and up one flight that had a landing and a 90 degree turn. Both of my previous moves the movers took boxes two at a time on a dolly. Oasis movers did three and four boxes at a time.
I will say that it might have been slightly easier for me to communicate with the movers because I speak mandarin at a kindergarden level. There was no time wasted pointing out where I wanted things to go. The movers were even fast going back down the stairs to get the next load.
I gave each mover a 40 dollar tip. They shaved an hour off my last move (which was easier, with only one set of stairs, and a friend helping). There was no mention of a tip when I was presented with the final bill and they seemed pretty happy with the tip I gave.
Oasis Movers supplied 3 men and a truck. They showed up a few minutes late but worked very carefully and fast to move our family. The crew was able to take even the largest items out of our 3rd floor apartment without damaging anything. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
The customer service at Oasis is great. We were able to book 2 movers 2 weeks ahead and someone called to confirm time and place 2 days before. You've got to love organized businesses!
The 2 men showed up promptly on time on Sunday morning (8am!). They definitely have their own moving system, working from boxes to furniture throughout the room. Overall, they were fairly careful in moving our heavy furniture- making sure to put padding around dressers, pictures, and such. When we got to the new apartment, they helped me put my bed together, as well as my roommates.
The problem was that, when they finished, I asked if they took checks. They said, "Yes PLUS tip." I'm no millionaire, but I have worked in the service industry for years, and I do not need to be REMINDED to tip. I always tip AND I over-tip when a job is done fabulously. I asked if it was okay if I included tip in their check OR I offered to write them each a separate tip check (trying to be flexible) I simply did not have $75 in cash at the moment. The one man kept saying, "Tip, cash, cash;" ok, I get it. You'd rather have cash. They made that very clear- bluntly! My roommate and I managed to have $75 in cash between the two of us and handed it to them and thanked them.
So, as movers, they were fine. As business representatives, I thought a bit rude. Perhaps it would have been a little more acceptable to inquire about a tip after I paid them for the move itself if I had forgotten to tip, but the fact that they bluntly told me to tip up front was not okay. And, I probably would have tipped more without the "little" reminder.
5 stars for being fast, respectful and efficient.
One man translates and directs while two men do the work. Wendy who takes the calls is very nice and passes on your wishes/instructions to the workers.
They followed every instruction I had which was a lot because I just had my floor refinished. They even tried to fix some damaged furniture the other movers had caused.
The charge was a bargain $70/hour for 2 people min 2 hours. I gave a great tip for their great service.
I am using Oasis in the future.
We have used Oasis for two separate moves and were very satisfied for both. They have very good communication from the beginning. During their work for us, the movers worked very hard (and we have a 3 level house). We had no damage to any of our things. Please feel free to send us a message if you have any other questions.
These guys are as good as it gets for the price. They are careful, capable, and very friendly. I've used them to move twice now.
I only dock them a star because the mover's English isn't that great, but it ends up not being a big problem. You can usually get your point across with some creative gesturing when words fail. And there is no problem talking to Wendy in the office, she is very nice.
These guys were on time, fast as all get out, super nice, efficient, and professional. The bottom line is: they were truly affordable, plus they made what could have been a stressful moving situation extremely easy.
THANKS GUYS!!!
Best deal in town - or at least that I could find after obtaining a few quotes. These guys maneuvered my couch expertly out of my old place and into the new one. Great price, arrived early, and good service.
Update -- the owner read my review and offered to make it right for me. Good news, the tip bully is no longer working there. I'm now giving them 5 stars because they did a fine job on the move and owner quickly responded to my issue. Next time I move, I will use Oasis.

Yes, these guys are tip bullies. They did a decent job on the move but yelled at me at the end… Read more »
We used Oasis moving company to move from SF to Menlo Park. I talked to several moving companies and Oasis had by far the most reasonable rates. Moreover they only charged from the time that loading started to the time that unloading ended. Most other companies also charged for the drive back to San Francisco.
We had a 1 bedroom place, Wendy recommended we get 2 movers at $70/hour. The two movers came right on time, were super efficient and the entire move including the drive to Menlo Park(45 min) was done in 4 hours. We paid them $80 bucks in tips just like other yelpers had recommended and they were very happy. They brought lots of blankets, wardrobe boxes and shrink wrap with them and were happy to assemble/disassemble furniture. They also were quite careful with our hardwood floor which was great!
Only one guy spoke english, you had to communicate with the other guy through the first guy. We had very few steps on both sides which made the move quite straightforward. All in all quite happy with them. Will use them again!
The Oasis movers showed up early, got right to work, worked damn hard. These two guys worked smart, too--brought in wardrobe boxes for us to transfer our hangables, big boxes on a dolly to put lots of small boxes into, blankets and bubble wrap for TVs and lamps, jumbo cellophane to wrap the cabinets in. They didn't talk much and had a general air of preferring to be left alone. Hey, this ain't a social party, they're schlepping all your crap.
We moved a two bedroom house from Albany to Oakland for $280 (four hours at $70). There was a $20 gas charge, which makes sense. I offered the two guys $60 as a tip, and they gave me the upsell routine that several other Yelpers have mentioned. I threw in an extra $20, making it $40 each, and they seemed happy. I highly recommend them for your no-nonsense, dirt-cheap moving needs.
First of all, I just want to say that Wendy on the phone was very friendly and accommodating when I had to postpone my move TWICE. The set up of the move went very smoothly.
However, I have a list of complaints that I had about the movers themselves which I emailed to Wendy after the move. She apologized, but that was it.
It was a move from a 2 bedroom condo to a house in San Francisco and they recommended and sent 3 movers. Here is the list of complaints I had about the movers.
1) They showed up early and I wasn't ready for them yet. They were originally scheduled for 11am. Then Wendy called at 10am and said they'd be there at 10:30 and they ended up showing up at 10:10. And then they said they were going to charge me starting at 10:00!
2) They charged me for 6 hours of work even though it was almost exactly 5 hours considering they started at 10:10, not 10, and they took a 45 minute lunch. I figured maybe it was company policy that even though they had really only been working for 5 hours and 5 minutes that they rounded up to the next hour.
3) They broke off the power plug on my arcade game while they were moving it. When I showed it to them, they didn't apologize and just told me, "Oh, that should be easy to fix."
4) They put dents in the top of my dresser because they put it upside down in the dolly when they moved it. I didn't notice this until after they left.
5) They complained constantly to me (and they yelled at each other quite a bit. It sounded like more complaining, but I don't speak Chinese so I don't know for sure.)
To me, they said things like: "This is a really big move." "This is really heavy." "That's a lot of stairs."
I don't think that's very professional to be complaining to the client directly. When I hire movers I expect them to do their job quietly and efficiently. If they don't want to move heavy objects, perhaps they should be in a different line of work.
6) When they were done I gave them what I thought was a fair tip but the lead guy said that it wasn't enough of a tip and demanded that I give them more! I told him the tip might not be as big as he was expecting because of these same complaints that I have listed here, especially the fact that they were getting paid for 6 hours when it was just over 5 hours, but he didn't care and still insisted. I was tired enough at that point that I ended up giving him more money to just get rid of them.
I would not recommend Oasis Moving Company because of the unprofessional movers that they sent me and the fact that they didn't do anything to address my complaints when I brought them to their attention. My friend who recommended them to me is now embarrassed that she recommended them to me and will also stop recommending them to people.
Absolutely Brilliant! What can I say. We had a LOT of stuff. Cali King Bed, Queen Sized Sofa bed! - Ton of furniture and then there;s the kids stuff on top! Oh and a heap of boxes big enough to fill Texas!! The day was a Friday 28th August - 3 men turned up bang on time at 3pm and the heat was ridiculous. One of the hottest in SF. We lived on a 3rd floor too. So these guys turned up saw all the stuff pulled a few faces (understandable... I would!) and just got on with it. It took almost 3 hours to load (3 flights of stairs people!!!) - drove over the bridge to Marin and the 3 guys arrived just after we got there - No messin! They unloaded in 1.5 hours and the total damage was $405!!! ($90 per hour!) - I mean... HELLO!! Wendy was helpful, informative, incredibly polite and on top of the whole procedure. All round great service - at a price which was well over a third of other company quotes for the same amount of movers. Great. I tipped each guy $60 - and covered their drink expenses at my choice. No damage to any of our belongings - Top Class. Highly recommend! Can't praise them enough.
