This place seems like the best option I have in my price-range. Both the women at the front desk were very nice.

They have a convenience store IN the community, right by the pool. AND THEY SELL 5 HOUR ENERGY....amongst other useful necessities.

The gym is pretty big, they have a pool table, wednesday night movies, year-round heated pool and gated parking.

Haven't decided on this place yet...

We're back for our second Spring season here. I've noticed the clientele around the place has dropped a tax bracket.  It probably has something to do with the stumbling economy and the new "free rent" billboard on the roof. Times are a-changing.

Everything else is pretty much like last year, the staff have been attentive. We've had them out to fix all kinds of things and they usually show up pretty quickly.  I docked a star because the atmosphere is a little less quiet and secure than a year ago. There are a lot more people who seem to be unemployed hanging out during the day.

I got pretty fed up with the rowdy drunks stumbling down the pathways at 2am every night of the week. I think we were in the worst spot for that since we could also hear the foot traffic heading for the other hotels from the nearby bars. When booking try to get something not facing Via Marina or one of the main pathways.

Still no recycling. Sigh.

I was hired to work out in Santa Monica and my company placed me in temp housing here for a good 6-7 weeks.

I was never really at the apartment much during week days except to catch an hour or two of tv movies before sleep or do laundry since I was working a lot, but the apartment room was quite nice. Big bed, WIFI, TV with a lot of channels, air condition, small kitchen with pots and pans, refridgerator, shower, bathroom, ironing board, hair dryer, sofa, dresser, small bar dining table tied to the kitchen, dining utensils.

I brought my Xbox 360 to play at night before sleep but unforunately they don't have wired internet, only WIFI. But I was able to play offline on the tv.

The kitchen area is really great, especially if you didn't bring your own utensils as they are provide just about all the basic things you'd need to make food. I was able to make pasta, cookies, and biscuits to name a few things, without ever having to buy cooking utensils.

They do have room cleaning that come in weekly that make the bed, replace towels, clean kitchen utensils, etc... I usually cleaned up my own stuff since that is how I was raised, but that service is there if needed.

They don't replace small commodities like soap, toilet paper, etc... I never bothered to ask but I just assumed that is up to the resident, they do have a small store on site by the pool area incase you need to buy commodities or snacks.

They have a large parking garage with a lot of space, I usually came home from work late at night between 11PM-1AM and there typically is a friendly security guard who walks around the parking lot watching the cars.

Most residents consisted of 20ish females or couples, with pockets of older couples, but most everyone seemed to be really young party type without the loud noise blasting from their room factor.

It is also in an ideal location, just about a block or two from the beach. You can take a really nice walk down the beach at night listening to the ocean. I never had time to go during the day but I suspect it would be quite packed because that block or two leadng to the beach consist of small stores, bars, restaurants, etc

They have activities every so often, like movie screenings in the lodge near the pool, activities in the pool, or Sunday morning breakfast. Social activities basically, if you're single you might be into all that.

There is a laundry room but you need to bring your own soap. I forgot how much the price was for a wash and dry but it wasn't much, about $1.50 combined if I recall. They have electronic machines where you get a prepaid card and load it up, similar to the transit train systems. If you don't use the money up before you check out they ask you to mail the card to the company that owns the machine for a refund on the balance.

I can't provide a price range since it was company covered for temp housing, but the apartment complex is an ideal place to stay at if you're in Santa Monica/Marina Del Rey for more than 3-4 days to take in all that Oakland (and it's location near the beach) has to offer.

After living here for a little over 3 months, I would have to say that living here has been great.  Yes, Oakwood is not as nice as the newer Archstone next door.  But considering for its price and location, it's a great deal.  When my bf and I decided to move to LA, we looked at countless apartments from the Westside to Los Feliz for over two months before deciding that Oakwood would be the place to live.  We love the fact that it's pet friendly and it's no more than a 10 minute walk to the beach.  Also, since parking is always scarce in the beach areas, it's nice to be able to park in a parking garage that has ample parking.  Whenever we've had issue with the maintenance in our apartment, the repairs are taken care of on the day we've put in our work order.  The only downside that I've come across are mostly from the residents.  During the weekends, the pool area is packed (think Spring Break-Cabo) therefore, lots of trash is left behind.  The ground keeping crew is really proactive in getting the area cleaned up the following morning.
