5 reviews for Oaktree Gun Club LLC
I'll start this review off by saying that I'm completely biased because Oaktree is like a second home to me. Now on with it:
I've shot at a large number of outdoor, indoor, and open land ranges. Oaktree is by far one of my favorites. Because of it's proximity to the SCV and the City of LA a lot of shooters come out on a regular basis. As with any place like this cliques form but the cool thing about shooters is they LOVE to share the sport with newcomers. The facility offers trap, skeet, sporting clays, and a pistol range. Both ranges have guns for rental and the place is kept up very nicely. You DO have to pay for the quality as well. Trap and skeet are $8 per round, Sporting clays are $25 per 50 targets. The pistol range is $20 per day to shoot and has a very good assortment of calibers and manufacturers to check out and shoot. The pistol range no longer offers reloaded ammo so it's a little more expensive to shoot than it used to be. But as of now the factory ammo is still cheaper than most other places.
I've been shooting at Oaktree regularly for almost 3 years now and I've gotten to know many of the staff very well. As with any firing range safety is a key concern so most "discussions" had with the staff stem from safety issues. Range Officers (ROs) are often patrolling the lines to make sure that everyone is safe and having a good time.
The Shotgun Range is open till 8 Weds - Fri and Till 5 Sat - Sun
The pistol range is open till 10 Weds - Fri and Till 5 Sat - Sun
Friday night is Couples night at the Pistol range, which includes a free gun rental with 2 Paid adults.
Check Out: At the pistol range Smith&Wesson 500, .460 Magnum, AR-15.

This is my favorite place to go shooting around L.A. It's all outdoor range with skeet, trap and pistol ranges but no rifle range. The lack of rifle range is the only set back but I still give it 5 stars for the total package. They have a great gun store on site with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They have a good selection of pistols for rent at the pistol range. They have decent prices on factory ammo and their own reloads in just about every pistol caliber.
On the pistol range they have metal frames for paper targets that you can place up to about 75 feet away. They also have a great shooting gallery full of all kinds of metal targets including spinners and moving targets at varying distances.
I don't shoot skeet or trap but they have lots of lots of stations if that's your thing and the people that are shooting there look like they take it very seriously. There are usually some sponsored shooters decked out in all their gear going at it.
The best part of all is they have a nice little lounge with a bar and a giant stuffed bear. Obviously I only condone having a beer or two after you are done shooting. The crowd here is generally the best of any range I've been to. Nice, friendly , serious shooters and I never see the thugs practicing for the next drive by that you might come across at other places. The range captains are great here and me and my friends have gotten lots of great tips on shooting and advice on different guns while here. And apparently the Govenator comes here regularly to do some shooting and if it's good enough for Arnie it's good enough for me.

Pros: A lot of trap stations, metal target pistol gallery, pop-up pistol gallery, friendly staff, rent adult/ youth guns, and a bar/grill (because nothing says america than drinking beer after shooting).
Cons: No rifle range. Pistol range is $20 per day.
Prices: Pistol range $20/day, trap $8/round of 25 clays.
Bottom line: I love this place. Every time i come to LA i go here. Would have been a 5 star if there were a rifle range. It almost has it all.
My dad is totally one of those dads that if I bring home a date, he will inevitably ask them if they want to see his guns.
But, what my dates don't understand is that he's not offering because he wants to scare them away from me, he's offering because he thinks it's impressive and he's really just showing off...
So, my dad likes to shoot guns. A lot. And he's good at it.
I, on the other hand, am not.
But, after dad offered to take me to the range, for some good ol' father daughter bonding time... I, of course, accepted. Because, really, what's a better bonding experience than firing off a toonnn of ammo???
They have a sporting clay, skeet and trap range as well as a pistol range. Dad often does the whole clay shooting thing... but we stuck to the pistol range the day we went. After unloading at least 200 rounds of ammo out of a .45 and .9 mm I discovered I was actually having fun! I even hit a few targets... AMAZING.
The staff there is super helpful and watch you with an eagle eye. When one of my guns jammed, one of the guys ran over to me and showed me how to clear it -- even though my dad was on top of the situation too... but it was good to know I could just leave it up to them and not have to worry about it.
The store there is well stocked and the staff inside there is super helpful too. However, you do NOT have to have your OWN gun, they rent them... and for like 6 bucks you can try all the guns you like which is a pretty good deal if you're trying to find the best one to suit you before you commit to one.
The people who go there are all really careful and reasonable... The only thing that creeped me out were the number of father-daughter/son pairings... I wasn't the only one apparently... but out of those father-daughter/son pairings, I was the only one who could, if she wanted to, legally drink at the bar afterward. (yes, they have a bar...) LITTLE KIDS shooting... creeepppeeed me out. But, I understand it is a bonding experience and if you grow up around it, it's probably acceptable.
After a few hours of bonding we got in the car for the short journey back to civilization... My arms were sore, I was cold, smelled like gunpowder and needed to get ready for my outings that night... and I didn't think gunpowder was such an attractive scent to attract my date with...

if you're looking for a place to let off some serious violent aggression. then this may be the place for you. the range is open to the public and you do not need to have any sort of a membership. you must possess your own gun, license, etc. you must provide proof of age and all that too. it's a nice facility but i really wouldn't talk to anyone there unless you go with friends. sometimes, while shooting, i've seen some women burst into tears. this wasa while ago now and i wasn't shooting at the time..but when a lady is talking to herself about her cheating husband and she's firing a gun...i'd say NOTHING and hope that she doesn't go crazy. their facilities are real nice here and so are the people. they will help you put up whatever kinds of targets you're looking to hit. it's a pretty fun time, ever once in a while. the very first time i'd been here was after thanksgiving...when my dad & my uncle were here to shoot. i think my cousin was shooting too, at the very end of the line...because he didn't want his dad to see him miss so horribly.
SURPRISINGLY, my dad and I are pretty good marksmen...uh oh
