Sweet designs, super friendly staff, and they community oriented and donate a portion of their proceeds to help fund local non-profits trying to make the world a better place to live #onelove. I totally rave about Oaklandish and don't care if your a tourist swooping the best local brand to share in your hometown.
Just please don't rock their line out of style if you ain't from Oakland!! (aka Walnut Creek, Danville, Pleasanton) -
Review from Tamar F.
Every so often I feel generous, in the sense that I want to buy something for my two now-adult brothers. When I saw people on BART donning items that said "Oaklandish" I asked a local friend what that was all about, and learned about the brand. Sounded like something that my graphic-tee-loving bros would enjoy. I scrolled over to their website, picked out a few designs, and decided I'd pick some up before I went to the airport.
The website only shows the shirts and a few accessories that it sells, but in store you'll also find wallets and scarves and gloves and all different cool items by which to celebrate any Oakland pride you may have. I opted to get the Royal Golden Warrior shirt for one bro and the OAK shirt for the other, both of which have the Oaklandish logo hidden somewhere on the shirt (kind of like Hidden Mickies!) The girl running the shop was friendly and gave me sizing suggestions. They threw in a few stickers and give you your goods in a reusable tote bag.
You'll check out on an iPad with square, your receipt will either be texted or mailed to you, so this may not be the right place to take your technology-impaired parents, but then again, I can't imagine my dad rocking a shirt from this line (and he's a pretty cool dude). For all this coolness (+ the fact that they donate a portion of proceeds to local non-profits) there's gotta be a drawback - and that's the price. At $22-28 for a graphic tee, these seem rather spendy. But again, I was feeling generous on this given day, so I happily handed over my credit card to be swiped on an iPad. -

I've followed Oaklandish's progress since a friend's best friend and her husband started this years ago - 2002? The logo is great. Always nice to see the Oaklandish truck on Saturdays at the Farmers' Market on Lakeshore. J and I visited the Broadway store on "Plaid Friday" after T-day. Laughed at the Hammertime panties. Bought a tee shirt for my 1.5 year old niece and a felt bunny that was supposed to be for my niece as well but ended up keeping it and giving it to J (to keep him company on his month long biz trip). I uploaded a picture of "Fat Bunny" and J's breakfast.
Spent around $70 for a tee shirt + small felt bunny. Pricey but unique gifts. I like supporting local businesses.
Service is reasonable. My cashier obligingly looked for another t-shirt in the back so I could compare the screen print to the one in my hand. I noticed another cashier was giving out Oaklandish bags, so I requested one. I just read in another review that one cashier gave out free stickers and temporary tattoos. Will know to ask next time.
Parking: Metered. Got lucky and got rock star parking. Unfortunately the ticket dispenser was broken so J had to wander a block or two before finding one that worked. -

I have been buying shirts from oaklandish for a few years now. I own about 6 of them. Whenever I check out their website, im like a kid in a candy store eager to see what new designs they have come up with. When I found out they were finally opening a store downtown, I had to check it out. Man, was I impressed. It is definitely a place to keep tabs on not only for what shirts they come up with, but also for the events they have (fairyland & free beer, nuff said). But in the end, whats the most impressive about oaklandish is that with everything they do, its all about giving back to the community. So for that, I dont mind dropping $28 to wear my love for the town on my sleeve.

Great little shop in Downtown Oakland that represents this amazing city. I came here desperately seeking the infamous Oaklandish "BART Map" shirt, as I referred to it, and Marc totally knew what I was getting at grabbed one for me.
Friendly guy, nice and clean store and great product. As mentioned by others, Oakland's Downtown and Uptown neighbourhoods definitely need more businesses like this that pour money back into the community. It's definitely great to see Uptown and Downtown having an uprising of life, if you will...even with all of the "Occupy Oakland" hullaballo.
Points for Marc throwing in one of the Oaklandish reusable totes (I LOVE this bag) and a bunch of cute little Oaklandish stickers and temporary tattoos. -

I've wanted to buy some oaklandish gear for a little while now so was extremely excited to see the store 4 blocks from my home.
The store looks great.
Off to the left is a bunch of t-shirts on the wall. I looked at the wall and picked out 3 shirts, and when I told the guy he then mentioned that the rows go men, women, men women AND those are just the eye catching designs.
If you go further into the store they have two racks (left side mens shirts, right side women's shirts) which have examples of the sizing and the whole line of clothing.
I love most of the designs, but the price for a t-shirt is outrageous. I understand and love that they give back to the community, but after taxes a t-shirt can run you $28-$30 - that's the only reason I knocked it down 2 stars. -

Online buyers beware! I should have listened to my first review and not put in another mail order. I ordered my father "the crane shirt" for Christmas because he worked on the ports and thought he would like it. The shirt is defiantly a fashion shirt and not made for the working man. The quality is lacking! The material is flimsy and thin. I would be willing to pay the high price for a better quality shirt but like I already stated this was not a quality product. This purchase was a real disappointment since the shirt could be seen as homage to the working-class people in Oakland and not just those that want to look cool.

Nothing makes me more homesick than seeing the Oaklandish updates in my Facebook feed. A few weeks before my flight home (barely made it back to Boston this morning), I made a mental note to try to make it to Farmer's Market to see their tent.
HOWEVER, they now have their own store in, naturally, Downtown Oakland. It's just two blocks from the 12 St. BART station. The store is AMAZING and I was excited to see all the new designs they've gotten since I moved away! I wanted, like, seven of them, but only got one for me and one for Lea B. (They do run about $26-$28 each).
And then, as I barely made it back to Boston safely, my Facebook feed showed a new must-have product. HAMMERTIME PANTIES! You *can* touch those. They're so new that they haven't even made their website yet.
It's also good to see the same faces working for Oaklandish after a year away. In fact, one of them knows me from back when he worked at Peet's three years ago. Oakland, despite its size and downturning economic fate, really can have senses of community. That community support is, after all the catchy t-shirts and bumper stickers, is a big thing Oaklandish stands for.Listed in: 510 Represent

If you haven't been to their new retail location yet on Broadway, please do! The store looks SO amazing. It has an old downtown Oakland feel mixed with a new, rejuvenated vibe. Floor to ceiling brick walls, wall of various mirrors, wooden ceiling with skylights, and really cool hexagon cubes (to store t-shirts!)
Aside from the visual appeal and great merchandise, it makes me happy to support a company that gives back to the community I now call home. They also support local artists and designers with a variety of locally made merchandise and accessories within the store.
What's not to love?
I've been wearing my (older style) "Sunny Side of the Bay" t-shirt for over a year now; in particular, it makes me smile when I wear it to San Francisco where all my SF friends complain about the weather. Wah wah wah! Come to Oakland! ;)
I think this fall I'll have to stop by for a new hoodie. -

This local business is the bomb! I love the tees and the community support.
The new store is bee-u-tiful. Downtown Oakland needs more local businesses like this. Even if you can't afford a tee, you should just stop in and take a look. -

The retail store front on Broadway opened yesterday! Now you don't have to go to the farmer's market or order online to get your Oaklandish gear. I'm going to cover myself in Oaklandish "STAY" stickers to spread the word.
Thank you Oaklandish for being an advocate for Oakland.
Thank you Oaklandish for supporting local artists.
Thank you Oaklandish for contributing to the community.
Thank you Oaklandish for fighting to keep the A's in Oakland (and for all the free A's gear you gave out at your opening night tailgate).
Please bring back the Grand Lake t-shirt though. That was a cool silhouette. -

I love Oaklandish sooo much that I tattooed the symbol on my back. The Oaklandish tree symbolizes the culture of Oakland and the people of the Oakland community!
I purchased my first shirt almost three years ago and have several now, along with a couple sweatshirts and a tattoo.
I'm excited to see that they have a store front now, on top of the awesome Oaklandish mobile.

Thank you, Oaklandish, for opening a LEGIT business in downtown Oakland. Now I have a shopping destination on my lunch break. Awesome.
The store is exactly what you would expect from an Oaklanish store: lots of t-shirts, so hipsterized accessories and a cool vibe. The interior designer did a GREAT job! It is a breath of fresh air. A sign of economic recovery. Thank you!
My only suggestion is MORE. Dresses, sweatshirts, long sleeves. How about shoes? Put Payless out of business already!Listed in: Downtown Oakland

This place summarizes how I feel about Oakland in a nutshell. I love it! The new store downtown is great, and has all my faves displayed in a hip atmosphere mere minutes from my place of employment. I also like them online and at the farmer's market.
My favorite shirt is STAY with the Oakland Athletics logo. I wear it every time it's clean. -

You don't have to be a Oakland resident to rock anything Oaklandish - I don't even live in Oakland(yet) and I own 2 of their shirts. I like the fact almost everything is printed on American-made American Apparel shirts, locally designed and unique. Their Downtown Oakland store is friendly and accents the Downtown area, and I will also say they know how to throw a party - I was at their Children's Fairyland party a few nights ago and it was pretty damn cool!

I love the new store! Great location in Uptown/Downtown Oakland, awesome local clothing and accessories and cool folks working there. The store was set up nicely and I'm digging the look. I love how they support local businesses and are always representing Oakland in a positive way.
I've purchased Oaklandish gear online or from stores that carry their stuff, but now it's nice that they have a store now. They had a sweet Google deal for $15 for $30 worth of clothes! I got two t-shirts and spent $20. Holler.
It's great to see a local company like Oaklandish open up a store front in an area full of vacant retail spaces. -

I was taking a little walk on my lunch break at work (from the rotunda building) and happened upon the Oaklandish store! I had seen the truck at the Temescal street fair, and was super excited to go inside. I ended up walking out with a Children's Fairyland sweatshirt which is even pricier than their other hoodies, BUT it is for a great cause.
I agree with some of the other reviewers that it is a little expensive, and for $65 I wish I had at least gotten a sticker, pr a button, or free lunch or something.
Once I save up enough money though, I know I will be back for more super soft t-shirts with great art on them. Also, make sure to check out their new line called "there there" as it has more great stuff in the same vein as Oaklandish (supporting other cities this time though!) -

The Oaklandish Tree symbol is a complete icon for the Bay Area.
So how could I resist not buying some cute oufits for my Lil' John.
Not only is my baby going to be cute but the most style'n in the Bay. He has a dark blue onsie with the Bay bridge scene and a dark green one with the iconic Oaklandish tree.
Also, I bought an Oaklandish shirt for my dad once. He is the most style'n dad in upstate New York. Or should I say Grandpa?...
My only complaint is I bought my things on line and when your order is done message says an email will be sent to you when your order ships.
I never got that email.
Then right after I placed my order I saw I inputted the wrong shipping zip code. I sent an email to customer service and didn't get a reply as to if it was changed.
I had to write a second email asking if my original email was ever recieved.
Someone got back to me and appologized for the delay and told me that my order "should" have shipped out that week.
My package arrived very promptly to the correct address.
Soon my baby will be rock'n his Oaklandish gear.Listed in: I like Oakland!

This place is awesome. Their t-shirt designs are really inventive and are great for showing your Oakland love. They also have kid and baby shirts. The shopping experience is really pleasant because they have such a neat space and set-up. Also, I hear they throw killer parties.

I'm so torn about Oaklandish.
I love that they give back to the community.
I love that they wholly embrace the East Bay underdog that is Oakland.
But really?
$24 for an infant onesie?*
$45 for a sweatshirt?
I've got issues with this.
How about working to make your products a little more accessible to the hard-working residents of this awesome city?
Oaklandish, I think you're a great idea, but your elitist pricing really does rub me the wrong way.
*This being said, Lord Miles was gifted an awesome Oaklandish onesie from the greatly-missed-and-newly-Bostonian Michelle S., and he wears it with pride, and often. -

This review is for their merchandise and customer service.
I've purchased several hoodies from Oaklandish at the Grand Lake Farmer's Market. At $48, they're a bit pricey but the quality is great. My last order for a hoodie was a bit of work considering we were sent on a wild good chase for a 2XL. We were promised (via email AND verbally) it would be at one location then to the next. In the end, after I expressed my frustration and a solution, said hoodie was shipped to me free of any s/h costs.
The artwork on the shirts and hoodies are great. True Oakland pride! Their humanitarian pursuits within the community are to be supported and I will continue to stay current with Oaklandish.
Consumers: Visit them if you can. Sizing is a bit spotty so try on before buying.
Word of advice to Oaklandish: You are selling merchandise. Handle your biz where your consumer *is* your business. -

I love Oakland and I love art and local artists. Therefore I proudly sport my Oaklandish bumperstickers and clothing. The designs are A++, however two of the four women's t-shirts I bought of theirs were made so cheaply that I had seams that gave out in the armpits when I first tried them on! I haven't had any problems with the sweatshirts at all. I paid $28-$34 for these t-shirts--I expect a bit more from a T for those bucks.
Oaklandish, you do so much right. Please make sure all your suppliers are top-notch--that's what we Oaklanders deserve.
Love and peace,

My boyfriend's mother lives in Alameda. While we try to use BART as much as we can, sometimes we are invited to functions where we (or at least I) know she will hold us hostage on the island for hours on end, sometimes long after the last train has left the Fruitvale station.
One day last winter we were driving across the bridge on a bright and cold day in January. As we exited the Treasure Island tunnel, I turned to Daniel and said, "You know, for all the shit everyone around here gives it, Oakland is actually kind of pretty..."
Sometime in high school I decided San Francisco was where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. I've lived within San Francisco city limits for the last five years, and I still have not settled in. Everywhere I go, I still feel like a tourist. Every time I leave my apartment, I feel like a little girl from San Jose being treated to a day at the zoo or Alcatraz or the teddy bear factory by her city-funded day camp, and like it's only a matter of time until I go home. I feel guilty when tourists ask me for directions. I feel like a cheat. I feel like a fraud.
I don't get that vibe in Oakland. I don't get any kind of vibe at all. I feel more at home in Oakland than I ever have in San Francisco. Seeing the city skyline in my rear view mirror is almost always a relief. I've never once felt unsafe in Oakland or been afraid to be wandering around late at night. Maybe I'm just naive, or maybe I've been lucky enough to stay on the right side of town. But Oakland is somewhere I could really see myself staying.
I see a greasy beauty in the East Bay. People have such a hard time thinking of Oakland as more than just guns and gangstas, but Oakland is all different colors. It is all different smells. It is grassroots notions of community and hard work and better living through art.
Wheile I was interning at Performer, I came out to Oakland to help my editor man a booth at the East Bay Express party last July. On a coffee break, I picked up a t-shirt fromthe Oaklandish tent.
"I just bought an Oakland Pride T-shirt," I said as I sat back down at our booth, removing the lid of my scalding-hot coffee to vent it.
My editor looked at me and laughed. "Oh my GOD," she said. "You are going to get your ass kicked on MUNI."
Oakland's time will come. Until then, I will not be afraid to unzip my hoodie on the bus and wear my sentiments on my Oaklandish T-shirt's sleeve. -

I love Oaklandish' designs! They are definitely Hot, and I would be proud to wear them! So, why 3 stars.?
I'm taking away 2 stars for the 2 sizes I had to order up so I could squeeze my breast into your tees. I only wear a 36C mind you, and all of my shirts are a size L. You would think with such a ethnically diverse spirited company which represents one of the most ethnically diverse cities second to my hometown of LBC, that you would have true sized clothing that fit normal sized people other than skinny asian chicks. Hell even they might need 2 sizes up. So, until you guys sell tees from the adult post puberty section I'll have to admire you from afar. -

STOP-HAMMERTIME!
If this phrase makes you nostalgic for the bad music sounds of your childhood then Oaklandish is the clothing company for you. Fun, funky, original designs for those of us who are proud to be East Bay people. I go online and buy a ton of shirts from the sale rack. It is hard to find me sporting a t-shirt that isn't from Oaklandish. I love the designs, the fit and what it stands for.
They Host the Radio Regatta, which is an AMAZINGLY fun party/fundraiser at the Lake Merritt Boathouse with all sorts of free food and kick-ass DJs.
I highly recommend getting a Hammertime sticker and putting it on a stop sign near you! :) -

What a great organization!
not only do they provide the fresh gear that is oakland themed, but they actually give back to the community, supporting oakland based non-profit orgs. They also hold design contests for kids in the Oakland Unified School District.
I love the stay in Oakland A's line they have.
Cool t-shirts, cant wait to get more to add to wardrobe. Love these guys! -

Oaklandish sells trendy, good quality tees and other apparel that rival those sold at Futura Vintage (in Berkeley) in terms of their cool factor. The prints are more complicated than the Futura tees, but are not as amusing. The shirts and hoodies are comparably priced.
I have the Burnout Emblem Tee in washed black, which is very comfortable but stretches after washing. Other than this, I am very happy with my purchase.
Oaklandish usually has a booth at most local farmer's markets and fairs (I've even seen them in Berkeley).Listed in: I Hella Love Oakland!

While exploring the Piedmont yesterday, I came across a store I had seen online before, but never actually seen in person. Me, being my curious self HAD to explore this new found treasure, and oh a treasure it was indeed.
Selling things of of a camper, these people are cool to begin with. Total "Bay Area" people, if you want to use that stereotype? Either way, they were cool as hell. Super nice and friendly and gave me a free bumper sticker and a pin :). I bought a sweatshirt and two shirts here and I'm so glad I did! It's hard to find really nice-fitting clothes, but I'm wearing my Oaklandish Sweatshirt as I compose this review and I'm very content with it! And as soon as I get back to Phoenix, putting that bumper sticker onto my VW will be the first thing I do.
Very glad I came across this place, will totally be returning via their online store. -

Do you remember the mural that read "OAKLAND IS PROUD"? I can't tell you where it is or was all I can tell you is that I remember it and its message.
When I was a kid I was often sick so we would get in the car and ride to Kaiser Hospital and on the way I'd look out the window and there was this mural. Everytime I'd see it- I'd think that it was the coolest thing. It wasn't spectacular in its imagery and since then I have seen other murals that have far surpassed its color and lines but it, unlike others, conveyed something powerfully positive against the negative image and realities of an Oakland in the midst of an employment and drug crisis during the 80's. The essence of the mural's message of love for Oakland is exemplified by the Oaklandish organization. Their support of the Arts at local events and festivals is inspirational. Their grassroots beginnings to their metamorphosis into a full fledged functioning organization with wonderful merchandise is spectacular.
It's true-Oakland IS PROUD & beautiful. (thxs, steve) -

I am trying to be a big supporter of all local businesses, and this place makes it easy. I was there last Saturday afternoon,
*footnote* the wife and I have been trying to make our way over here for the longest time, but we have always been in the car and there is never any parking in the area.
Anyways, after a small walk down the the hill we were there. All the shirts and hoodies being sold will be bought from me. I just love them all. Buying locally made things like this is so addicting to me. Plus on top of that they look cool. And whats wrong with representing the city you live in?
That's what I thought. I will be back here to increase my collection. -

NARRATIVE
Gliding along Lake Merritt in Angelino's mahogany gondola, I realized how fortunate I am to call Oakland home.
As a second year visitor to the Radio Regatta, we got there early on Sunday afternoon to sign up for the free gondola rides. Once again the 4-Square Tournament was intense, the weather was perfect, the music was sweet, and the crowd was beautiful. I heart Oaklandish.

SUMMARY
Oakland deserves to love itself. Oaklandish not only provides phresh threads to spout Oakland pride, but produces many events for the entire community to enjoy...from Salsa on the Lake, to film screenings, to the Radio Regatta...everyone can joyfully participate. The vibe is always chill and positive, and you get to enjoy free stuff! What's not to love?
SERVICE
Great volunteers, especially the woman who was in charge of the free food. She was in charge of giving away free pizza on the hour. Free pizza makes crowds turn into frenzied mobs. She was chill and reminded us to mind our manners.
RESTROOMS
The boat landing had adequate bathroomage. Thank you very much!
SUGGESTION
I loved the stunt bikes from last year! Great to include Rock Girls Camp to participate and the young artists who decorate the chairs. Would love to have a demonstration of silk screening so we understand how the posters and clothing are made.
Maybe more pageantry for boat launching? Regatta fashion? Regatta theme?

Oaklandish is an organization that makes me proud. I remember when they started out and it was like a bunch of graffitti types and modern day revolutionaries who would project historical films on the sides of public buildings. It was like a new form of vandalism, and also educational. I loved what they were doing then and now they've evolved into this amazing organization that promotes Oakland. Oakland needs Oaklandish. I bought some really funky Oaklandish T shirts for my family who moved to the east coast. They also have awesome posters that reminisce on native Oakland celebrities.
Their website has interesting historical videos you can watch at http://www.oaklandish.com
