10 reviews for Oak Quarry Golf Club
Had some friends in town, and so cut work to play this gem.
The beautiful part about this golf course is that its short, but demands an accurate shot. I enjoyed that emphasis on shotmaking from tee to green. I had to set up the tee shot for good angles to the green, and I had to hit all types of irons to the green, such as the low runnign shot or the high spinning shot to the pin.
Putting was fair and fun as the green slopes were tough but nothing so outrageous.
The 14th hole, a par 3, is the most beautiful par 3 in southern califonria, and you can tell. The quarries carved in the mntainside provide a gorgeous backdrop and the lake to the left adds a serene touch.
In fact, all the holes were gorgeous in their own way, and I was never once bored by the setup.
I enjoyed my time and I"m sure you will too.
You rock, rock.
This has got to be one of the toughest, prettiest, and hottest golf courses I've ever played at. Although everything is supposed to break towards the rocks, the greens are fast and tricky and there's more hazards here than a nuclear test facility. You can miss into brush, trees, canyons, lakes, rocks, and water.
In general, the place is very well maintained and a great place to impress friends or family or serious golfers. Hole #14 is rated one of the top holes in California.
Price:
$35 w/ cart. Twilight.
2nd time ive played here. Great course. Very well kept.
Get what you pay for.
The wind was horrible today, sometimes over 50mph winds. Its a course that you cant play with that much wind. They gave us a warning before we paid. No refunds. We did it anyways and it was missrable.
I will be coming back soon but without the wind.
Also ate in the clubhouse afterwards and the burger was great.
The rock quarry serves as a backdrop for a magnificent 7,002-yard, par-72 golf course. All the holes are named after minerals found in the quarry, such as Gypsum Gully, Marble Ledge, Limestone Dome, Quartz Corner, Zircon Tumble. Oak Quarry features dramatic elevation changes, holes that take you in and out of canyons, negotiating undulating fairways, and tiered greens. This is one of the best course I have played at yet. Need to play this place when the winds are no as bad.
My longest drive ever was at this golf course. The 560 yd. Par 5 8th hole. Driver goes out and all I had left was 170. But the drive was downhill, downwind so I had everything going for me. As impressive as that sounded, I 3-putted the green for a measly par.
Okay, Oak Quarry is a bit pricey but its in a good area and it happens to be the best golf course in the area. Better than Sierra Lakes and Empire Lakes. It's built on an attractive hilly and rocky piece of land. No houses around the area, except for the dodgy trailer park and shanty houses. But it's all good. A lot of uphill and downhill tee shots. There is so much terrain and elevation changes. It is difficult, but played from the correct tees, it can be fun.
The practice area is fun and the staff is friendly and helpful. The golf carts have GPS on them so you have correct distances to your targets. But I never really trusted GPS except for my handheld devices like SkyCaddy.
But this is a great course. And I failed to mention the 240 yard Par 3 14th called Spinal Slide which overlooks something that looks like Half Dome at Yosemite. It is one of the BEST holes in California.
Great course and layout, as well as awesome GK event today. Nice views around many holes of the rock mountain around you. Nice par 3's here. Great conditions from tee to green, with the exception of the bunkers, as there was not much sand in them and they were pretty hard. Other than that, course is very nice. Remember, all putts break toward the valley.
Very well maintained and relatively challenging course. You get what you pay for--green fees are usually $70+. It's a desert course so be prepared to sweat in the summer time if you don't get up early. It's really not that difficult if you can control your 3-wood. Most holes don't need driver, so if you're erratic, leave the big dog in the bag.
Concentrate on your iron and putting here because many greens can be reached with a wood or long iron into the fairway.
The signature hole is dubbed the "Spine Slide". The par 3 14th has an elevation drop of a few hundred feet. Spectacular hole surrounded by the walls of the quarry. Hit too long and you're in the drink. Pick a shorter club and swing away with confidence.
Mid priced public course in Riverside County.
Hilly and the canyons offer challenge and require accuracy.
Great views and well maintained.
Clubhouse amenities are great as well.
I measure the difficulty of a course by the number of golf balls I lose. I brought 10 and lost 10 so this one ranks #1. Even with the beautiful white walls of the quarry creating an impervious ally along the fairway, like using bumpers in bowling, I managed to find cliffs, water, and dense brush to hit into. You'd never expect such an amazing course in Riverside, but they've transformed a retired quarry into a cross between Yosemite and the Alisal Ranch. Roosters, hawks, ducks, squirrels, rabits, horses, road runners, lizards, and other exotic birds roam throughout the course and aside from my shanking every drive, it was a great experience. I would've paid just to hike around. Hole 14 is incredible. Take your time and enoy the view. You can play this course for as little as $50 in the winter.
not for duffers or those easily frustrated.
but if you enjoy a good challenge oak quarry is one of the best in the region. a bit of a trek from the city but the good course layout, manicured greens, and spectacular views of the quarry are well worth it.
