I have to give this mall at least 4 stars because I worked here when I was a teen.  I must admit that there have been several changes since then and the quality has gone down somewhat.  However, there are plenty of good stores and I like the rides they have for the kiddies.

I never noticed this before, but the one thing that is really crappy about this mall are the ramps for people in wheel chairs and baby strollers.  You have to cris-cross all of the time.  It is very annoying and not conducive to anyone with wheels.

Overall, it is one of the few indoor malls left in Kansas City Metro area.  So it's good for winter time shopping.

This place is the KC metro's best stab at a flagship mall.

Which really is not saying much . . .

I do think the selection of stores is improving little by little. However what dooms this place is that there's absolutely NO WALKING SPACE. And to make matters worse, people absolutely love walking at 0.02 miles an hour right in the DEAD SMACK MIDDLE of the walkways. I understand people don't wanna be rushed, it's the lifestyle here and yada yada yada. boo hoo. Stop walking BESIDE other slow folks and get the heck to the right.

Anyway, Nordstrom, Teavana, Express, and Aldo are the few stores that make this mall relevant. Otherwise, there's really no indoor mall for hundreds of miles worth going to.

It's an indoor mall.  You love them or hate them.  But is this one really the same as others in Kansas City?  Not really.  Let's take a closer look.
Their anchor stores are Dillard's, Nordstrom, JC Penney, and Macy's.  They're larger and carry a larger selection than any other of these stores in the metro.  Nordstrom carries designer items, if you're into that, that no other mall in the metro area carries except a few name brand shops on the plaza.  Good stuff although expensive.  To shop Allen Edmunds, Burberry, Seven, Deisel, Luis Vuittan, etc.. in the metro area Nordstrom is pretty much it.  No other Dillard's in the metro can compare either.  The one in Independence mall looks dilapidated.  The Dillard's at Oak Park is so large there are 4 stores two are separated by gender one for men and one for women located on opposite sides of the mall.  A hassle, maybe, but a small one that's worth it for the stock of shoes.  I could care less about Macy's and I really dislike JC Penney but there they are huge and stock many more items than any other metro location which is a draw for customers.  I mean, if your going to shop don't you want the best selection even if you hate to do it?

Disney store, Children's place, a sunglass hut that actually stocks a descent selection of sunglasses and not the same old Oakley's and Ray Ban's.  I can't say I enjoy all the stores here, but not a bad variety.

A mall is a mall and if you must go to one at least find one that has a selection of what you're looking for.  Not a bad layout either making it a good place to walk around when it's really cold or hot outside.

oak park has a very small handful of tenants like nordstrom, lacoste, lush, and pandora; but these places are nice exceptions for a completely mediocre indoor mall on the whole. if you're not a bored teenager (hollister, hot topic) or wannabe cougar-type mom (bebe, cache)-- there's not a whole lot to see here. j crew left for leawood, no apple store, no urban outfitters, no big exclusive tenants...just a lot of typical mall tenants in a very drab atmosphere.

the only real reason to come here is for nordstrom which should be skipped in favor of hall's on the plaza or at crown center anyway. the dillard's stores are dated and have a bargain basement feel while the macy's seems smaller than the much older metcalf south location a few blocks to the east. if you want upscale shops-- go to the plaza or 119th area and if you want family-oriented shopping hit up village west or zona rosa. Oak Park surely isn't much to see compared to any nicer mall in St. Louis, Dallas, or Chicago.

As far as malls go, Oak Park does stand up to the competition. If you're already well traveled or a big city urbanite and have witnessed first hand different types of retail shopping experiences, this is simply a mall in the middle of a suburb.

However, OPM's variety of shops are pretty good, including the addition of the 3 level Nordstrom with restaurant and cafe. Never would of pegged that but thank you, cause I love me some Nordstrom - when the price is right. A quick insider tip--The Dillards here rocks. I've never seen such great merchandise from a Dillards. I think it's comparable to Nordstrom's offerings and better than Macy's. The shoe selection is pretty fierce on both sides of the gender line. With other stores from Coach to JCPenny, OPM can be one-stop shop for all people with all levels of disposable income.

Crowds are a problem on the weekends. Hey, the place is popular. I'd go out and say it's probably heavily favored over any other shopping location in the KC area, above Town Center & the Plaza. Nothing seems to be slowing it down, and I don't see Nordstrom's moving anytime soon to the Plaza, so OPM is still a great shopping destination along with have free encounters with hipsters and crazy kids.

Oak Park Mall is the last of the great indoor malls in Kansas City.  I grew up in KC with a lot of indoor malls, and aside from the remodeling/resurgence of the Ward Parkway mall (which includes mostly outdoor store entrances) Oak Park Mall has managed to stay reasonably clean and safe over the years.

I think its location and store selection has a lot to do with it.  The mall is set up like any other; it has a main (two way) thoroughfare down the middle with shops and wings on each side.  The food court, at one end is my favorite part, boasts the likes of Original Pizza and Panda Express.

There is also a Nordstrom's on one end that is a great place to shop and even more fun to people watch, especially during the holidays.

For Kansas/Missouri this mall gets 5 stars, heck, it is even better than any mall near my hometown in Cali.

This mall has pretty much everything you need: Macy's, Nordstroms, Brown Wrappings (see review), A&F (if you're into that), Ann Taylor, Cache, Crabtree & Evelyn, JCREW, Sephora, Forever 21, White House Black Market, Victoria's Secret....the list goes on and on.

Great one stop shop- and it is INDOORS! Which is great for crappy days.

Isn't is weird how all 11 reviews are either 4 or 5 stars? I think its weird - I was prepared to give Oak Park 2 or 3 stars at first, like a reflex - it is a MALL and it does have those traditional trashy mall stores and traditional trashy teens in their belly shirts hanging around them (ie. Bebe and D.E.B.) But the more I thought about my personal experiences inside, the warmer I felt towards it.

Through every Christmas season, OP has been a staple in most gift-purchasing endeavors and there isn't a single place I associate with Christmas that I'll write about negatively on YELP. It gets me excited, it stirs the capitalist in me, it gets my money-spending blood running faster - (and it's indoors, highly heated in the coldest of winters and the sheer numbers of bodies inside adds at least 10 degrees.)

And the non-trashy stores outweigh the trashy (unlike Ward Parkway Mall, an excellent example of the opposite) with J-Crew, Banana Republic, a new MEGA Forever 21, Sephora, Aveda, Coach, Lacoste, Nordstrom, White House Black Market, etc. I can do some damage here, but the point it: there are stores for everyone and in hordes, your typical mall with enough classic Americana distraction for everyone!

Some of my best, laziest, busiest, most random days have been spent here and I can't give it 2 or 3 stars for that. What kind of a heart would I have if I didn't enjoy a place I've spent hundreds to thousands of dollars in?!

This is the type of mall that a kid like me from a smaller town would get excited about. 2 levels, shops that you see in the movies (Coach, Macy's), and a carousel. How can you go wrong?

While there are many great stores, and something for everyone. There are a few drawbacks. The first is the crowds. Lord have mercy, do NOT go on a Saturday or Sunday. It's like a mob scene and you can barely navigate the walkways, much less any of the stores. I've always thought that I loved crowds, but when it comes to screaming kids and frazzled moms, I think I'd rather go on a weeknight.

And if you are a big city native, this mall is really nothing special. Just another capitalist venture in a growing suburb hell-bent on grabbing the money out of the housewives and teenagers hands, who happily skip out to their BMWs and make it just in time for their tennis lesson with Hans.

BUT, if you are like me, and you haven't lived in a suburb/big city before, you know what a combine is, or you would relish the thought of Hot Topic and Wet Seal being side by side, then maybe this mall is for you.

I know 5 stars??!?!

This mall is as good as it gets when you look at the location, the security and the variety it has to offer. If you are concerned about security of your vehicle, or your person you have no worries here. They have the best patrols and the mall is located in the center of the city so it is easy for police and fire fighters to get to if they need to!  I have been there during the holidays and feel very safe and secure.

The mall also has new stores poppin up and plenty for the little kiddies to do as well. My daughter told me they have a new trampoline feature where the carousel used to be............I can't wait to see it and take my son.

A mall is a mall if you ask me and this is well, a mall.  I only go there to pick up certain makeup essentials or if I'm with someone else, otherwise, I avoid malls at all costs. Being that one of my first teenage jobs was at a mall (yes, I was a 90's mallrat) I am beyond burnt out. The same stores, the same food, the same scenesters and screaming kids. No thanks, not even a massage chair at $1.00 per minute could entice me, not even on a Saturday. I don't get what the big hype is or maybe I do- HYPE.

This mall cemented my opinion that Overland Park is the equivelant of Schaumburg, Il.  Both host all the chain restaurants and have lots of shopping.  Its suburbia heaven or hell depending how you look at it.

While this mall doesn't really compare to the size of Woodfield it does host all the major stores like Macys, JC Penney, Dillards and Nordstrom.  The usual middle class/upper middle class stores are there - Banana Republic, The Gap, Ann Taylor, Abercrombie & Fitch, Coach and all the others.

Its not a huge mall but it has what I want and I like the layout as well as the fact that it wasn't overly crowded. It has a small food court with decent options.

As far as malls go it was a decent place to shop and if I need something new to wear I'd happily spend an afternoon there.

Ok, I'm not a fan of malls--but growing up in the city of the Mall of America, I have a strange attraction to them.  Honestly, although the Mall of America (or Megamall as my grandpa calls it) is huge, its pretty boring.  The same stores occupies 3 different levels, a huge movie theatre on top, and a lame amusement park in the middle?  Its just like any other mall anywhere else.  So the Oak Park Mall, is just like the Megamall sans the amusement park (though there is a carousel).  I do like the fact its enclosed, which is awesome for those icky winter days that are coming.  There are some cute shops intermingled with better department stores, and again, those annoying chain stores.  The food court, is, well a food court--though cheap, and probably terrible for you, there is an international selection (thai, sushi, chinese).
If you need to go shopping, or need to get out of the house, this mall is someplace to consider.

Nothing here says "buy me now!" This mall has what just about 95% of malls in the rest of America have. They have the standard department stores: Dillards, Macys, Nordstrom, and JC Penney. The for some reason have a BMW dealership in the mall as well.

The thing that struck me and made me laugh out loud was watching the security guards patrol the parking lot in BMW SUV's.

Oak Park Mall is the first mall i visited before i moved here to Kansas city, and i still love it everything is around there from restaurants to spas to groceries to shopping, from time to time i go on a busy day just to people watch the Macy's is excellent and Nordstroms cafe Bar is the best cocoa ever. there are too many stores to get into the specifics check out Oak Park mall website,  I moved to Overland Park and live less than a mile away so maybe its more convenient but i still love it, decorated for Christmas or just milling around in the summer even my out of town visiting neice was loving this mall, not to mention a nice Target on the other side. Enjoy shoppers!

This has been my mall ever since I was a kid, and I'm particularly fond of it.  They have a great range of stores from Coach to Claires, and it's super easy to navigate and tote a kid or two around.  They recently upgraded their kid's play area, thanks to contributions from local high-end car dealerships (a tip of the hat to the ol' Johnson County-ites), but I was pleased when they finally opened it.  My favorite part: it's enclosed, so chances of your kids escaping go down dramatically.  Oak Park Mall is kid friendly with a couple cookie stores, a double-decker carosel (kinda pricey at $3 a pop), a Build-a-Bear, a big food court, and lots of space to move strollers around.  It's also nice because of their store selection, which they are constantly adding to.  It's nice that it's indoors since all of the new shopping centers are being built as outdoor, Town-Center-like places (did anyone think of the KC weather before deciding that?!)  They have a Subway and a Panera for their healthy food options, but besides that it's just fast-food in the food court.  Overall, a great place to spend the day!
