Neighborhood: Liberty StationI think I must say this is my favorite livingroom location. It is a nice two story old victorian type house with a louder downstairs and deadly silent upstairs. I guess upstairs is the kind of "undesignated designated study area" which is nice for me because thats usually what I come to do at the livingroom. Although after you drink all that yerba matte tea, its kind of hard not to get delirious and giggle with your friends only to feel the wrath of everyone else silently reading.
Another link in the Living Room Coffee chain, and not the weakest. The beverages are standard fare, not great but not horrible. The coffee is drinkable black depending on how old it is, so it's right on the border of decent and mediocre. The desserts are great; large and scrumptious and I'm salivating just imagining them.
When I went upstairs with my colleague to talk research we were a bit taken back by how quiet it was up there. There were just two other groups and they were silent. We started with our library voices and then realized that as long as we talk in normal conservative inside voices we should be fine...it's a cafe, not a library. I usually go in there by myself to study and wear headphones so I've never been bothered by the noise level. I'm sure one typical Californian self-important douche bag with a cell phone could ruin the whole vibe, but I've been lucky so far.
The patio is nice too, but parking (even for a bike) is sometimes a pain. Worth going to, but nothing amazing. Oh, and like other Living Rooms your computer will detect their wireless and not be able to connect because they are incompetent and futzed it up (they probably just took a cheap solution, bought an underpowered router, and need to restart it every few hours but don't know this...dorks). You can usually find another to connect to though (as I obviously have).
As I walked into the beautiful, spacious Victorian home that played host to this Living Room cafe, i squinted a bit as I came in out of the bright sunshine. The first thing I noticed was the sign next to the register.
"What do Nihilists believe in? Answer it correctly for 10% off your drink!"
I walked up to the counter and gingerly posited, "Nothing?"
"What do you mean?" asked the genuinely confused barista.
"Nothing. Nihilists believe in nothing. It's all meaningless and empty."
Her face brightened in a smile of instant understanding. "Oh yes. You're right. 10%."
I knew this was going to be a good spot from then on.
The double espresso was nice, although served in a huge, honkin' coffee mug (but who cares, the charm of the place waaay outclasses mug presentation). I walked all around the premises, just to get a feel for the place. The patio is awesomely sunny, and the tables are warm and inviting. The lower floor is perfectly comfortable and incredibly welcoming. However, I decided to try upstairs. Ducking my head at the rather commonly low level staircase, I found myself in a spacious series of partitioned rooms that afforded a sweeping view of the street. With my coffee and my lapto (aided by the free wifi), I found grading went by very, very quickly. In short, the Point Loma Living Room is warm, welcoming, and incredibly inviting. It's worth an extra drive for friendly service, free wireless, and a relaxing place to just 'be.'
If I were a nihilist, I just might change my tune, thanks to the Living Room :)

A coffee house with all the charm of a bed & breakfast. The teas are excellent, the food is decent but not great. I go for the overall experience.
Take one Victorian house, knock out a bunch of walls, and furnish it with the scores from dozens of vintage furniture stores and you've got the Living Room. It's worn to the point of being beat up, but it creates a casual atmosphere.
If you want to socialize or take in the buzz, sit downstairs or outside on the patio. If you want some quiet time to study or read, go upstairs - if you're lucky, one of the big padded chairs or couches will be available.
One hint... if you go upstairs, bring your extra-long power cord for your laptop, because the wall outlets are a precious commodity.
Negatives... not many options for locking up a bike.
Have been here a couple of times-- and really enjoyed the outdoor patio area. You can bring your dog here-- so that makes it another great choice!
Good Food. I normally get the salmon bagel dish-- and it is normally under $10.00.
Great place to unwind and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.
Like the laid back atmosphere...
Very nice change of pace!

Used to really love this neat victorian house of a coffee shop until I had one too many run-ins with overly giggling couples with hormonally incapable control of public display of affection.
Damn I'm getting old..
It's very quiet upstairs so it's a nice place to study but it smells kind of mildewy (probably from the humidity). It's a nice alternative for studying compared to the La Jolla one but I don't know.. didn't feel it here. Food is still pretty good and drinks are okay but I still like the La Jolla one more. I felt like the stairs were going to collapse when I was going up and down. Free wi-fi is always a plus :)

We love this place. It is our "date night" hangout. Great drinks, great staff. Very homey and comfortable. Their soup rocks, as do their Sandwiches. I can always find something healthy to eat there. I always take our guests from out of town there.
Oh, btw, if you are in the mood for naughty food?...they've got you covered. Tons of cakes and pastries.
2.5 stars really because I have mix feelings for this place.
This place has a very nice homy feeling to it. They have really good cappuccino, maybe I just love their big round white mug. Their pastries are good too, the scones are my favorite. I go here a lot on weekends to enjoy a relax breakfast.
However, their lunch and dessert are not so good. My tiramisu from here was sour, then I decieded to give it another try and got a banana cream pie which taste like the fridge at my house, and I gave it a third try and their chocolate cake wasn't good either (I forgot what's wrong with it). I don't think they should put their gorceries (eggs, etc) in the same fridge as the cake, which i believe causes the fridge smell in their cakes. Oh and their lunch wraps aren't good either... somehow their tortillas are extremely dry and hard. I ate their wraps more than once so I believe that's not an accident.

This is a super cool coffee house, and I do mean house. A cosy two-story abode located at the very edge of the residential leg of Point Loma, this place is unlike anywhere you have ever ordered a Mocha (and that includes the other Living Rooms). It feels like such a home you will find yourself walking quietly at night so as to avoid waking anybody up. Perfect for occassions when you want to hang out in A living room but not necessarily in Your living room (I get that feeling all the time so I guess I'm a little biased), the vibe is very studious and the drive to Rosecrans is a great excuse to procrastinate a little bit. And they serve good food, too -- try the quiche.

This is one of my favorite coffeehouses. Is always homey, the service is amazing, and free wifi, what more can u ask?
We all like this place because it is simple and the coffee is good. Sunday is my day there. The omelette is my fave. They do some good lunches too. Just a couple few sandwiches and stuff. The chicken salad is yummy. And who can beat the free Wi-Fi.
i like it here. the place could almost be from san francisco with the lower level's victorian'esk design, slightly hippie wait staff, and chill vibe.
the prices are a bit high, and (although it is the theme) i could go without the continual sock-hop music. i was surprised to find this is a chain, but eh, its a nice place to hang.
Absolutely love this coffee shop. Free wifi, good coffee, good cake, great place to study.
