it saddens me to say that i will never go back to this place.
I came to this place because i bought a groupon and i took one of my best friends for lunch.
I ordered a lamb burger, appetizer and my friend ordered stew...
after we were done with the appetizer, the waitress told me they ran out of lamb! ?? really.. 45 mins into the meal? so i ordered a regular burger...
And then.. ( horror) the bread was covered in mold.. YES... lots of it.. check out the photos -

I came here because it's close and there was a groupon. Apparently everyone was there for the groupon, at least that's what the waitress told us (hm..).
Both friend and I ordered fish and chips. Big portion of fish. Like big slabs. I was down. It was pretty delicious. I wasn't really a fan of anything else on the menu though. Also service was slow (probably due to increase of customers due to Groupon). Don't know if I'd come back for dinner, but the drinking ambiance was nice (dark, as romantic as an Irish pub can get.) -

This was an honest Irish Pub. Dark, authentic memorabilia, Guinness...Irish bartender! Dierdre is awesome! She recommended the Irish Nachos which, though odd sounding, were the best "nachos" I ever had, and I'm from East LA! Anyhow, next time I'm in the Bay Area, I'm definitely going to return to this spot!

Cockroach in my food and they still charged full price. Offered to buy me a couple drinks next time i come in. Proper would be to comp at least part of the bug-infested dish, then maybe i'd want to come back. Other than that, great place.

Review from Janice C.
I can't deny the fun decor of Irish mementos and murals on the walls and some barrels used as dining tables. I've been here on two separate occasions, for lunch and dinner, let's just say our lunch experience was better.
The food is well prepared and they are not skimpy with the portions: the Irish stew is very hearty, corned beef and cabbage comes with 3 big, moist slices of meat and a mountain of mashed potatoes, their fish and chips is good and so is their calamari. However, skip the pear and spinach salad with gorgonzola, even though it's a favorite combination of mine, I don't like the overpowering spiciness from the red onions.
Our server (for dinner) was "efficient" and would be there when we needed her. But we felt like she was in a hurry to close our tab, because every time we licked the last morsel off our plate, 2 seconds later, she would show up at our side and say: "are you finished with this?!" Geez lady. It must be the end of your shift because you were very eager to clean up our whole table. Also, the bar was out of a lot of beers (on a Saturday night?!) No more Harp, Beamish, Kilkenny .... so our group was pretty much left with just Guiness. Well, not that it's a bad thing!
I'm not swearing off O'Reilly's, but maybe next time, I'll just sit at the bar if I want my fish and chips. -

Hot damn! I love beer and this place serves it, infact they serve a ton of it.
This was the second to last stop on the golf crawl and I was already thoroughly sloshed. My liver was going to regret this night, but I didn't care. I had to have another; just one wouldn't hurt, right?
After meeting some awesome people, sharing stories and cheers; I was feeling great and in good spirits. This place is awesome and made me feel right at home.
I will return!Listed in: Golf Pub Crawl

I mainly come here for the fish and chips. It's actually pretty good. For about $20, you'll get 3 pieces of flaky crispy fish, crunchy chips, and a side of slaw. I enjoy dining here because of the outdoor seating. There are plenty of tables outside. Service has always been super friendly.

This is the best Irish bar in the city!! I have not been in awhile and tonight was great! The bartenders, Dierdre and Connor are the best! The customers are the best. Made a ton of new friends and since I am going to Ireland soon they are great contacts as well as giving great advice!! Thanks so much for the best time ever!! I will be back soon!

I'm right at two and a half stars, but bumped up to 3....great outdoors on a nice day. Ask for a taste of your beer before you order, because some of the lines are dirty. But the Guiness was good. The restaurant part is cozy and friendly, but the bar area is drafty and so-so customer service. The clientele is totally at home and there are a lot of regulars from the neighborhood that add to the atmosphere. The food smelled good....didn't taste any this time though. If you're in North Beach and looking for a spot to sit for an hour or two, O'Reilly's will fit the bill. Not sure it's worth the effort to go there as a destination.

O'Reilly's is one of those cozy neighborhood Irish Pubs that you can't help but like. I wouldn't choose to be a regular, but if I'm in the area, I'd definitely stop in for a pint. My friend and I happened to come here along our Ugly Sweater trolley pub crawl, so we were welcomed with friendly faces. We also met some awesome, random regulars that were more than happy to buy us a Guinness, yay! The decor is beyond random and tacky, and I was left wondering how they possibly found it all. Perhaps dumpster diving in a wide assortment of neighborhoods? Who knows. But the fact that I'm taking up a couple sentences of my review on that point alone goes to show that it added an element of interest for me!

This place is lots of fun. I was pretty intoxicated by the time I got here, so the details are a bit blurry, haha. But I'd definitely go back. Seems like a tight spot to watch a ball game too.

Oh no, I'm so behind on my reviews that it is no longer relevant! Why you ask because the item we liked best is no longer on the menu - the Irish quesadilla! It was nothing but goodness - a great Irishmexi combo - delicious corned beef sandwich with cheese between tortillas.
Hopefully they are still serving the yummy dense brown soda bread. I must admit it grew on me from ok to loving it.
They have many drafts but the beer is never ice cold. I love fresh oysters but having tried it at various Irish pub spots, I think I'll skip going forward. They tend to serve the super sized ones, which are not so great to have fresh.Listed in: Bars & Pubs, Fresh oysters...slurping them…

My five stars us based on the vibe and charm of this place. I have been to this pub many times and it never disappoints. This truly is the best Irish pub I've ever been to.
The bartenders are always attentive. The vibe is so chill and makes you want to keep drinking. You feel at home. -

Today was our first and last trip to O'Reilly's. They were out of most beers and also had a broken credit card machine, but didn't warn us about that upfront, so we had to leave mid-visit to go get cash. These are not huge problems, but when the service is terrible and the waitress refuses to serve your out-of-state ID, it doesn't bode well. A first impression is a lasting one, and we'll be sure to watch 49ers games elsewhere.

I'm so fortunate to have such a heart warming comfortable Irish Pub less than a block from my front door. They have outdoor seating with sun all day long, great food, great drinks and top notch staff!
I could wax poetic over all the great people here but you should just go and enjoy it yourself! -

Ok, so I am not sure what has happened here, but i can tell you a major downgrade has occurred. No more cloth napkins or white linen table cloths, no more nice menus, now simply a single piece of paper that has been laminated. At least a third of the menu items have been removed to be replaced by NOTHING. NO more specials. The cider is often out as well as a beer or two. Gone is the happy Irish staff, replaced by confused Eastern Euro's and sour Americans.
The Ambiance is still lovely, and in fact the food is still very nice. Clearly the recession and the failure of the Holy Grail has hit hard. O'Reilly's will no longer be a destination for me, and this makes me sad.1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Francisco, CA
Worst. Service. Ever.
I have been going to O'Reillys for many years. Living in the neighborhood, this was a good spot to have a good pint and to eat some hearty food. Service has always been wonderful.
Until today.
Now given, today is Fleet Week. Many many people in town. Nevertheless the place was filled as on any regular weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary.
When I came in I almost immediately noticed the red haired bartender to be in a pissy mood. Happens. Didn't waste a moment on it.
Had a great conversation with some random strangers and remembered, why I liked this place so much. Then I ordered food. Food did not come. And did not come and did not come.
Finally we asked and were told "it is busy today". Sure it is. But again, nothing out of the ordinary and I have never waited this long for food. Forgotten maybe?
Also, the first beer I ordered tasted stale. I ordered a draft and it tasted like feet. But don't take my word for it; a lady at the bar who ordered her draft about an hour later had the same experience. And actually had more balls than me and send it back. I salute her.
So I switched to bottled beer. Then we asked for the bill. Bill came and was paid. In the middle of paying the bill, I was told, oh wait this is the wrong bill ... here is yours.
Again, things happen. What I do not like is that it was made sound as if this was my fault. And, stupid as I am, I told the bar tender that. She went bezerk.
She told me if I hadn't notice how busy it is (yes I did). No apology no nothing. No refund for the stale beer no nothing. Just plenty of attitude.
So, I was finally annoyed as well. And I exercised the only option/weapon I had. I left her a small tip, which very aptly compensated her for her services.
When I left, i heard her yelling "asshole" through the bar.
I used to really love this place. After today, this will be a bad memory.
And to you Miss red-haired Bartender - a finishing school would be wasted on you. If you don't feel like working, spare us all and don't. We patrons are not the lighting rod for your pissy mood. -

The food was very solid and I had the Irish Stew which was really delicious, and the Guinness beer was a great companion drink. The atmosphere was truly pub style. The only thing was even on an empty weekday lunch and when the doors were open, you can still smell the leftover sweat, I guess it's the true pub spirit?
The pub was colorful with lots of decorations and some barrels inside-- on the wall, in the ceiling, and even on the tables.
Service was on the slightly slow side even it was a slow day so be patient and enjoy your beer while waiting. -

Gone to hell on a sled, comes to mind. This used to be a heck of a nice place to spend an afternoon. Today's red-headed somewhat over weight lady bartender went out of her way to ruin a perfectly good day. I would have said something, but I was afraid she might hurt me (I'm only 6' 1" & 220 lbs after all). In any case, if you spy red behind the bar, be afraid, be very afraid and stay far away.

My wife and I were on vacation in San Francisco and we had bought a Groupon for O'Reilly's, so I ordered Lagunitas IPA while we perused the menu.
It was a perfect day, so we sat outside and our server was fantastic. She knew about all the beers on tap and was super nice.
I ordered the Cobb Salad and my wife got a salad as well. The Cobb was huge and perfect. Lots of the extras, egg, meat, bacon, etc. My wife loved her salad as well.
While we were enjoying the sun we saw two people walk by with open beers, it was like being in Las Vegas.
I had a few more beers over a wonderful, relaxing supper. Awesome place. -

Worst service ever. I am not exaggerating. Ordered the shrimp omelette. A full 30 min later the waitress comes back. They don't have any shrimp. Really? Did you just now give the kitchen our orders?! Wait another 30 min for simple scrambled eggs and potatoes. Friend's order comes out a good 15 min later. Food is so so, nothing exciting. Ask for the check. Wait a good 15 min, give up and go give the waitress our cards, say we are in a bit of a hurry. Another 15 minutes she finally comes out with the receipts. The entire time we don't receive any apologies. The place wasnt even busy. Completely unimpressed. Maybe you should reevaluate your hiring practices. Not that I really care - I'm never going here again.

We had the oysters on the half shell, which were succulent, creamy, and very fresh and you can't beat the happy hour price @ a buck each. Would have been great to had some sourdough bread to go with them.
Also got the beef-barley-guinness stew. It was served with irish bread, very tasty. We shared the fish n chips, which were awesome. 3 pieces of crunchy, but light batter and moist fish. Fries were a little dry, probably need ranch. -

Went there on a Tuesday night. It was a very mellow but welcoming atmosphere. We ordered a couple of dishes of the menu and drinks from the bar. Everything was really good and really well priced. We had a $30 Groupon so our bill was really low. Our well drinks were only $6, which is great for the north beach area.
It's a nice bar to go to if your looking for some space and a table to sit at. All of the staff was really friendly and the service was fast. -

Pogue mahone if you don't like O'Reilly's!!!
They have one of the best breakfasts in the city. Large portions and great service. If you're not new to town and you've done the whole Buena Vista thing, try O'Reilly's...way less crowded, a little cheaper, and don't tell BV but O'Reily's Irish coffees are a tiny bit better. Shhhh!

Maybe its the Irish in me, maybe its the nice long bar with plenty of seating, maybe its the mural of Sean Penn on the back wall (granted the bar tender swears it isn't but you tell me). But this place was kind of Irish pub. Dimly lit, plenty of room for sitting, a nice out door area and a friendly but not pushy serving staff.
Honestly i could have spent a lot more time here, with the number of beers they have on tap and the very light but social atmosphere this place is a winner. It doesn't hurt that its right off a main road so its accessible with out all the road noise.
simply put, i will be back. -

I got into San Francisco at around 2pm and was hungry. I was walking down Stockton street and when I cam to Green street, I happen to notice their sign outside so I figured if anyone is gonna have a good beer, it's gonna be an Irish pub. I was right !
I ordered a Kilkenny beer and a med-rare burger.
Holy shit, that was the best burger i've had in a really long time. It was made to perfection. And the beer my waiter ordered was very good also.
I really enjoyed this place. The food was great, the service was friendly, and everyone was in good spirits. Next time im in the city, i'll be stopping here again. -

I came for brunch on a Sunday. Kind of weird there is a funeral home across the street and a brass band was playing a somber tune. Kills the mood a bit.
Corned Beef Hash w/ Poached eggs(4 stars): Definitely the best breakfast dish. So much food! So filling. The corned beef is delicious so I'm going to have to come back for dinner and Guinness.
Boxty Eggs Benedict (3 stars): Needed salt. I need to have hollandaise sauce so always get an eggs benedict. But the corned beef hash came with hollandaise so just order that!
Cool looking place, totally empty for brunch though. Definitely looked like a good place for a drink. Will have to report back later! -
Review from Tim N.
After an adventurous run in the 2011 Chinese New Year 10k in downtown San Francisco, we wanted to find a place to watch an early morning Celtics/Heat game in North Beach. We discovered that O'Reilly's was already open at 9:30, was serving brunch, and had a couple TVs in the bar area - perfectly satisfying what we were looking for.
We were the first ones in the bar and a super-friendly waitress got the TVs on, served us some beer, and took our brunch orders. By 10 a.m. we were well into our beers, devouring corned beef hash, and fully enjoying the game.
The staff was awesome - regularly checking in on us and chatting with us from time to time. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable too. If you find yourself downtown early on a Sunday, and you're hungry, check out O'Reilly's. You won't be disappointed! -

I love this place.
For me, however, if you really want to enjoy the warm, "Irish" side of things, go during the weekdays. In fact, I only go when Deirdre is working because she always has a smile, and is quick to serve everyone who walks in. Even her phone greeting is friendly!
As far as food, everything is fresh and well-portioned. It's a tad spendy, but given the neighborhood it's on par with all of the other restaurants near-by. The dish they do better than any other Irish place in the city, BY FAR, is the Shepard's Pie. The juicy lamb ragout compliments the cheesy potatoes and unlike others, I am sure they don't prepare the dish and then bake it off to dryness. If they do, it's impossible to tell.
There are plenty of tap beers from which to choose, as well as some decent bottle beers, and always a Guinness from morning til night.
It's hard to pay $6 for a pint, but again, it's on par with the 'hood so if I want to stick to cheaper beer, I'll just stick to my neighborhood.
There is a credit card minimum, so ask. -

The food was pretty good - the bf got the stew, which he really enjoyed. I got the lamb burger, which was basic but very tasty. Good ambiance that was totally ruined by a surly waitress. Not sure what was wrong with her but she didn't seem to pay attention to what we ordered and kept asking me what I wanted even though she just wrote it down ten seconds before??? She also just slammed down our beers on tables with a "Here," before walking away.

Got here shortly after 6pm and it was already pretty busy. Expected for a Saturday night, but I also expected service to be awful. Much to my surprise, staff were really nice despite having to run all over the place, and our waitress even stopped by our table on the bar side to apologize for not checking on my friend and I more often.
I'm not particularly a big fan of beer, but my friend insisted I try their Guinness. It was definitely some of the tastiest beer I've ever had, something like a mix of coffee and chocolate.
Food-wise, we ordered the fried calamari appetizer and asparagus and corned beef. The corned beef with lettuce and mashed potatoes were seriously delicious. The calamari also far exceeded my expectations.
If I happen to be in the area again, I would definitely not mind coming back here for a proper dinner. -

Came here specifically to try out the Traditional Irish Breakfast, recommended by my brother's coworker. He said that's where his dad (who's Irish) comes and eats whenever he's in town.
Arrived around 11:30 am on a Wednesday, there is two parts of the restaurant, the pub side and the restaurant side. Decor looks like an old Irish pub, cool decorations, makes me want a Guinness.
There are two sides to the restaurant, the pub side and the restaurant side.
We walked in through the restaurant side, there was no one in sight....so we walked across to the pub side, hoping to find a waiter or something but STILL no one in sight, not even a bartender. The only people in the entire place was a couple of customers sitting at the bar, eating.
So we waited a bit outside and did the walk-thru again 5 minutes later, STILL couldn't find anyone in both the restaurant or the pub.
Finally, out of nowhere, a waitress walks in from the street (I guess she was outside talking to someone in a car) and seats us, handed us the menus and some homemade brown bread and water.
After we looked over the menus, she came back quickly to take our order. She was really nice, complete with Irish accent.
We got:
The Traditional Irish Breakfast
(comes with 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, beans, black, white and regular sausage)
and the
Bunratty Style Irish Bacon Benedict
(comes with two poached eggs, Irish broiled gammon, (a sweet cured ham) on toasted homemade brown bread topped with our hollandaise sauce)
Overall, it was decent food. The breakfast potatoes were fried to crispy perfection, but I was a bit disappointed in the two small slices each of the black and white sausage they gave me on the Irish Breakfast.
The Burnratty style benedict was good, again the same potatoes were good and crispy, the brown bread was a bit dense to cut thru, but both were good decent hearty breakfast.
I would come back and try something else, maybe when there is more people. -

I love this place! After the crappy treatment we got at Kennedy's down the street, this is our Irish pub of choice in the city. We went last weekend with a large party. We all ordered on the same ticket and our sweetheart of a waitress (the blonde with the Irish accent) offered to give us our separate totals when it when it was time to pay. In fact, we've always had great, attentive service. Not to mention, the food is tasty (love the sausage rolls, calamari, and spinach and pear salad!) and they have Magners on tap! Great atmosphere, too ... We hung out for quite awhile after we were done and never felt like we were being rushed out. Just a cool, laid back vibe ... Just the way an authentic pub should be!

O'Reilly's is great! It's in my neighborhood and is just off the beaten path of the North Beach mix. We came the other Thursday for a couple beers and some conversation... the crowd was mellow and the promo girls were in full force with Irish Mist. My friend didn't like her Magner's so the bartender happily replaced it with a hefeweizen.
Pretty standard Irish place, but I definitely appreciate it in a city like SF with bars and restaurants left and right. The outside seating area is nice, too... I am thinking a Sunday funday is in the works. -

Miles and Chiching never fail to put up the best and (I think) only St. Paddy's Day block party in the city. Of course, they're busy - it's Paddy's Day! You know they would be Guinness central and every Irish wannabes would be there so don't expect to get a seat and be served other than on plastic cups.
Met my fella here so it'll always be my top Irish pub. Also, she's been gone for years but I still miss Fiona the Irish Wolfhound.
