Best sandwiches in San Diego by far. The only reason I didn't give it a 5/5 is because sandwiches are a bit pricey and even the cheese is an extra dollar. But other than that, extremely fresh sandwiches. I like stopping here on my way over to the beach to get turkey avocado on ciabatta. Wrap it up to go and have a picnic!

Local Boulangerie that bakes various breads fresh daily.  They also make fresh soups daily.  Their White Bean Chili is devine, mmmmmmmmm.  In additon they offer a selection of sandwiches, made on their own breads.  Great spot for casual lunch. Every sandwich comes with a pickle and a bag of potato chips. This place has been here for years. You can also get a half or whole sandwich, the options are terrific!

I ordered a Turkey Avocado with Provolone Cheese, on Sourdough, and a Snapple.  The total was $10.56 with a $1 tip.  There was nothing special about the sandwich, they had no spreads, only mayo and mustard.  I came to this place because they said that they had the best sourdough in town; I didn't find anything special with regards to the bread. They were limited with the vegetables that they had available to put on the sandwich; I have seen a much better selection at Whole Foods or Jimbos.  For the price, I was disappointed, it was a basic turkey sandwich, nothing special, and I paid almost $11 because they charge extra for both avocado and cheese. I recognize that most places charge more for avocado, but charging more for cheese, ridiculous! I would not recommend this deli.

Sometimes the key to a good sandwich is the bread. As such, sandwiches at this bread bakery are delightful. All of the ingredients are exceedingly fresh. Basically, you get a sandwich like mom would make, if mom sprung for top-notch ingredients throughout.

Like the sandwiches mom would make, they're not huge, but with (free) chips and pickle, they make a great lunch and I always leave just-full-enough. And the prices are very reasonable, usually $5-something for the sandwich/chips/pickle.

The menu is limited, but the basics are there - roast beef, 'italian', egg salad, tuna, etc. The roast beef is delightful, the italian is the biggest of the bunch and quite tasty, and the tuna was a bit of a letdown.

There's also lots of seating outside - great for sittin with your pooch. The seating area is shared with a Vietnamese restaurant (Le Bambou), a deli (Elijah's), and italian/rotisserie (a natural combination - Bellisario's), all of which are well-reviewed here. So if your friend doesn't want a tasty sando, they have options.

Highly recommended for a simple, healthy, tasty lunch.

(Oh, and they do take credit cards now, though the machine busted on my last visit)

This is a family-owned business that has been baking bread for over two generations. They have a quaint shop that also serves specialty coffees. but there emphasis is on breads and pastries. They are known for the sourdough and rye bread that has won awards in San Diego. They make great danishes too!

Very friendly shop and it's nice to patronize a mom and pop that are rare these days.

Every time I go to visit the dentist (@ Del Mar, weird huh) I stop off here after I get my novocaine-slugged mouth shot full of needles.
O'Briens has terrific pastries, not as Grand Prix as Susina but so what.
They have thirty different varieties of bread here, the Dutch Crunch is pretty tough n chewy, tuff enuff to rip out your fillings and make Dr. Painless go ballistic. Not like that happened to me, but...the Ciabatta is real powdery, don't wear black jeans or you'll look like a wild zebra, all stripey.
The deli counter is good, turkey is my favorite, tons of toppings at your request. I thought the tuna was a little heavy on the relish, too sweet, etc. They only take cash (like Zankou Chicken) and have a cool sign asking you to turn off your cell phone while you're ordering or they'll ask you to leave. I'm behind that!
That reminds me: I gotta see my dentist next month. See you at O'Briens. I'll be the guy with the lumpy, swollen mouth.

The sandwich I got was alright. Nothing special. The bread was not memorable...
