I went to Nunzio's with a friend a few months back, so my memory is a little rusty.  We had gotten reservations on a busy Friday night, and (thankfully) we were seated right away.  We were seated in a back hallway to the right near some fake windows.  It was really tight, and relatively uncomfortable.

The waiter came over promptly and opened both our bottles of wine, and rattled off the specials.  It was so loud in there and there were so many specials that we couldn't keep up.  After about 10 seconds, I gave up on listening to him so I just stared at him and nodded.  I'm not sure of the names of what we ordered, but I got a chicken dish with a white-wine mushroom sauce, and Peter got the Penne Vodka.  Our food came out relatively quickly, and with no hiccups.  My food was excellent for the price ($14) and was just what I had expected.  His food was a bit more expensive, but the response from him was that it was just as good.

Nunzio's is good if you're with a group, but if you want an intimate affair, this is not your place.  It is very loud, and people are packed like sardines.  However, the prices seem to be spot on, the food was pretty good, and the service was excellent.

OK, it's not like me to give a place only two stars, but, "Meh, I've experienced better" is SOOOO my exact sentiment. I went with a group for a belated Admin's Day celebration, on Monday, 6/15... Yeah, way late.

Anyway, our party of 8 arrived around 11:30 and were maybe the second or third table to be seated that morning/afternoon. Service was blah at best, and with the exception of the dipping sauce that came with the bread, EVERYTHING is better at Villa Barone down the street.

We had a couple of appetizers to share among the table, and all were equally bland. Calamari, Carpaccio, and a third which I cannot remember... That should tell you, right there.

My entree was the Trenette al Granchio... It was ok, but it was not noteworthy. And I LOVE me some crabs and some pasta (check my Villa Barone review to see what I had there, lol), so for me to not care if I ever taste it again is saying something. lol

One star for decor, and one star for that dipping sauce.

The only thing I liked here was the atmosphere and the mozzerella appetizer stacked with fresh basil and tomato and anoil and vinegar drizzle. We went for restaraunt week but only half of our party wanted the restaraunt week menu. The manager told us our table had to agree on one menu. WHY???? He said it has to do with the food preparation. Oh that's right I forgot restaraunt week food was pre-made and left to sit under a heat lamp so they can jack the price down for people looking for a good bargain. We settled for the regualr menu. Way WAY over priced. I could have gotten the same thing from Villa Barone for half the price and it would have had more flavor! The waitstaff are rude and think they are the BEST in Philadelphia. If you live in Philly go eat real Italian food in South Philly. If you live in Jersey, go to Villa Barone or Bistro Di Marino.

UPDATE: If you read the most recent review (by Blake), it is obviously written by someone associated with Nunzios. Click on their picture, and as of today, you'll see it's the only review they've ever written. A total dead give away that they are hyping up Nunzio's.

As far as the "redneck" remark and the reference to "Olive Garden", you can ask any random person roaming about in center city Philadelphia, and they will say, "Yeah..I heard Nunzio's is overrated." I am not some redneck who prefers chain restaurants to BYOs. Get a life Blake!

Great place!  Reservations can be made online from their website, and it looks like they're necessary because the place filled up quickly.  The waiter recited a detailed list of specials from memory, and provided excellent service.  The regular menu (which is also available at their website) is comprehensive.  I had the caesar salad and rack of lamb, both of which were delicious.

Parking was a little difficult, but I don't know Collingswood well so perhaps there was some local parking that I didn't find.

I'll definitely be back - this was a great find.  Thanks, Yelp!

I normally go to a lot of BYOB's in Philly(since I'm only 15 min away) but I wanted to take my GF for a nice night out in NJ for a change. We went to downtown Collingswood to check out the stores and then go to Nunzio's. Our reservations were at 7:30, but all of the stores in town were closed by 6. Luckily, the hostess allowed us to be seated at 7 without any hesitations. The restaurant was already crowded by this time, but it wasn't crammed... if that makes any sense. There is a lot of open space in the main eating halls so it doesn't feel too claustrophobic.

Let's start with the service... totally 1st class. Within 1 minute of sitting down, our bottle of wine was open and we had already heard about the specials. The bread that was given to us was fresh and the dipping sauce(which was a creamy basil based mixture) was just excellent. We started off with the Calamari... not too adventurous, but we've had some great calamari and we wanted to compare. It was pretty darn tasty!!!!

For our entrees, my GF got Pollo alla Pizzaiola(Sauteed chicken breast with capers, garlic, tomato & oregano in a light white wine, tomato sauce topped with mozzarella) and I got the rack of lamb special. Both entrees were outstanding. We were both delighted to taste that all of the ingredients were fresh and cooked to near perfection.

I would love to give Nunzio's 5 stars, but I'm saving 5 stars for the one place that blows me away. I'm proud to say that I've eaten quite a few nice places in Philly and Nunzio's is right up there with the best.

I'm vegetarian, which obviously puts a damper on the enjoyment of many foods this restaurant has to offer... BUT, their prices are far too high, especially considering that they are competing against MANY MANY great Italian restaurants on Haddon Avenue.

Offended by the most recent review, I feel obligated to the masses to refer Collingswood diners to some better Italian options.  Rather than this Olive Garden reference, try some great Italian within a few blocks of Nunzio's such as Il Fiore, Sapori, or Villa Barone.

Nunzio's is one of the best restaurants in the Philadelphia/South Jersey region.  First lets talk about the chef Nunzio himself.  Personality wise, he's very chill and charismatic.  Skill wise, he is a part of the fading generation of true oldschool chefs--the chefs that are from the representative country of their food.  Nunzio can take any game--duck, rabbit, deer, etc--and clean and cook it in a delicious manner.

Service is always on target.  For a construct that seats 120 people (if I recall correctly), the service does an excellent job.  The food is consistently good, but what makes Nunzio's one of the best in the region is the specials the chef prepares himself for select customers.  The incorporation of things like truffles, foie gras sauce, and other delicacies place the food on a high pedestal that trounces most other Italian restaurants around.  Nunzio's is truly authentic and dishes out great food.

We have been going here for years and we always have a great time.  They food is excellent and it is BYOB.  I enjoy the whole fish of the day that they will fillet table side.  They make everything here including desserts. I love the fact that Nunzio will come out of the kitchen and visit tables and make sure that everyone enjoys their meal.  I've been here many times where we have closed the restaurant.  This place gives makes you feel like you have stepped inside an Italian village.  Great atmosphere and great food.

i went out to eat here last night. I ordered one of the specials which was a filet mignon topped with a portobello mushroom, gorgonzola sauce, with sides of some vegetable stuff and these cheese mashed potatoes that were unbelievable. It was probably the best meal ive eaten in a long long time. the service is wonderful and the menu is deliciously authentic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes food.

possibly one of the most underrated italian restaurants in the area. the food is the best and their service is unbelieveable. they always have a huge variety of amazing specials... i don't think i've ever ordered off of their regular menu! the decor and atmosphere is really unique, and it's one of the few collingswood restaurants that is actually roomy enough. someone please take me to nunzio's!
