Review from Sophia T.
let me break it down:
the studio - a lovely, invitingly warm space. immediately i felt comfortable as Nourhy and I chatted.
Nourhy - kind, generous, and INTUITIVE. she was spot on regarding my struggles/challenges and VERY encouraging. she is the kind of person you want around when you are feeling less than confident about being a human. CAVEAT: she is brutally honest which I appreciate in a person. I don't need some bullshit, get enough of that through daily living. Soooooo, she said things I didn't particularly care to hear but I NEEDED TO HEAR. This makes her brave, also an admirable quality in a person.
craniosacral therapy - I'll be honest, I don't know what the hell this is but it kept coming up in my life as in "hello, go check this out, you fool". still don't know what it is but I have respect for it and Nourhy. I can tell you that I felt nurtured and free to let my mind/body do its thing. I felt safe. I trusted that Nourhy would be honest with me if anything came up. it was a mystery but that is not a bad thing. I would like to experience more of it.
Thank you Nourhy! -

In the nearly three years since I first visited Nouhry, I have given Now gift certificates to my mom and my brother and got the hoped for (and expected) follow up calls from them proclaiming what a great gift it was and wonderful visits they had.
Last month I was out of town on an extended trip over my brother's birthday, so I decided another gift certificate was an easy option - and, of course, a great gift. Unfortunately, I had procrastinated and didn't contact Nouhry until just a few days before his bday. She was terrific. She got the gift certificate to him in time and I was able to pay for it (and the tip!) with PayPal. Now I can just sit back and wait for his next visit and the follow up call telling me what an awesome sister I am!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Nourhy is a very gentle soul with a lot of talent.
I recently went to her for the CranioSacral massage and it was absolutely mind-bending.
The Craniosacral massage is certainly not like a Swedish or hands-on massage that most of us are used to, but it's even more relaxing. Nourhy really changed my mind about body work. I was able to let my mind go completely, and never felt more at peace than when I left. I would recommend her to anyone.
If you are looking for a way to quiet your mind and release tension, this is the perfect place. -

Imagine your body, mind, and spirit, strung out, racing about town, thought after thought, racing mind, trafffic, co-workers, relationships, demands... all of this burning up your body with the heat of a thousand suns.
Now, picture that wreckage of a self,
bounding weightlessly through a gentle metaphorical shower of total mind/body and Spirit Elixir.
A complete tour of total wellness, all by the most lovely person you could possibly manifest.
There now.... walk...nay.......run......to the phone, call Nourhy, plan on a once-a-week, once-every-other-week, session to rejuvenate thyself.
Your body will thank you, and everyone who has to deal with your crunchy stressed out arse will thank you as well.
Anyway, that's how I feel about Nourhy, and as a body worker, and acupuncturist, and yoga instructor, I am quite picky. She's the total package, and then some. -

Nourhy is amazing and I have to agree she has a magical touch! I am a small business owner, stressed out 24/7 and have trouble relaxing and falling alseep at night. I carry alot of stress in my shoulders! The treatments I received were a massage, craniosacral therapy and reflexology. When I usually get massages I can't seem to turn my head off long enough to relax. But with Nourhy's touch I was able to do that. I am sleeping better at night and will continue these treatments as part of my new healthier lifestyle.

Review from Shana C.
I had a Great experience with Nourhy. I found her to be incredibly personable, kind, and well practiced. I talked with her on the phone for a bit when making my appointment and immediately felt friendly towards her. It was obvious that she's serious about her work and her clients' satisfaction.
99% of the reviews I read on Yelp about Nourhy were very positive (5 stars) with the exception of two standouts. I read the scathing reviews for Now Massage but found it easy to dismiss them for two reasons:
1. One of the negative reviewers complained about not getting the kind of massage she was used to. Let me counter her complaint with this, TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM NOW MASSAGE'S WEBSITE, ahem:
"This is not a typical massage session."
That is the SECOND SENTENCE in the paragraphs about her massage service. You can see how it was easy to discount that complaint.
2. The other major reason I was able to overlook the two scathing reviews were the authors' apparent negative vendetta against a business owner that obviously cares about her work and customers passionately (an opinion formed after visiting her website). I read the reviews, and read Nourhy's website, and decided that the negativity and anger of the reviewers seemed very unwarranted and that I'd go and have a great massage.
I totally did Love every minute too. Hopefully, other readers will overlook thing 1 and thing 2 and follow the many, many stars that the other kinder, and more open minded, Yelpers have given her.
Nourhy knows her stuff. She's been doing what she does professionally for nearly 10 years and she probably became interested about the ranges she covers long before that.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a Reflexology session. I'll admit I had imagined a more deep tissue, rubbing of my feet than I received, but that's totally OK because what I got was even better. Nourhy touched not only my feet but my energy, she felt right away the anxiety and sadness that I've been carrying around for awhile, spoke to it, worked some of it out, and rubbed my feet in a very relaxing and healing way for longer than I payed her for.
I could go on, because I'm interested in the kind of work Nourhy's doing. I'll just say that I will be returning next time I've saved a bit of cash for some of that knowledgeable, healing love that she bestowed on me from her absolutely adorable little studio. Good vibes all around.Listed in: Accidentally New Age

I got my mom a Reflexology massage as an early birthday present and I am beyond glad that I made that decision. Nourhy is such a wonderful, understanding and patient person. She was nothing but wonderful to my mother, my sister( who I brought along) and myself. She really did help my mother a lot...she came out of that massage much more relaxed, happy and open-minded. The waiting room was so cool and well decorated that we couldn't help but feel relaxed. My mother told me that the massage was wonderful and she's going back(my mother is a very honest woman). She absolutely loves Nourhy (as do my sister and I) and are so grateful that we met such a genuinely great person.
Believe me...go to Nourhy to get a massage as my mother swears that she has magic hands. It's been a little over a month and my mom is still thanking me for the massage. -
Review from Janet E.
I give this place 3.5 stars.
I came here the other day for a craniosacral therapy session. I had never had one before and was hopeful the session would help me relieve some stress. It was definitely not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a head massage of some sort, but it was more of a "touching" session where the touching was not a massage but just her placement of hands on certain parts of my body.
This studio does not have a waiting area for clients so make sure you arrive at your appointment no earlier than your scheduled appointment time. I arrived early and had to return to my car to wait for my session to start.
Nourhy was extremely sweet to me. She's very nice and understanding. She even gave me a small sample of peppermint oil to help me relax. She has a dog named Buster who followed us everywhere, even into the room where I was having my session. I'll be honest, he's a cute dog, but he was panting so hard I couldn't really concentrate on clearing my mind. Even when we let him out of the room he started scratching the door to get back into the room. Despite the distractions, the hour went by quickly and I did feel more relaxed than when I went in.
I'm not quite sure if craniosacral is for me. I hate to give 3 stars out of 5 but I feel having a waiting room is important so that clients are not sitting in their car or standing outside in Chicago's crazy weather. Also, Buster may not be appropriate for people, especially those that dont like dogs or are allergic.Comment from Nourhy C. of Now Studio 6/24/2010

All the stars must fall into alignment above this place, as Nourhy is without doubt blessed with the gift of healing touch.
For those in search of simple, peaceful wholistic healing in a warm and inviting environment, there is no better place than NOW studio.
Expect to leave a different person as you first enter as her receptive nature will read you and know just where you need attention, be it spiritual, nutrional, physical, even financial.

Really unexpected pleasure. Yes, I did go for a massage. I left feeling de-stressed and energized. (No... there's no happy ending) Nourhy has a great little studio that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed even while you're waiting for your turn. She's amazing. I have to admit that I was expecting just a massage. I got reflexology and energy work with some massage. It was an all in 1 deal.
Nourhy, thank you. This was a treat. I'll be back the next time I come to Chicago. -

Wow, I hate being the first person to give a less than 5-star review. Oh well.
I went in with a flip-flop induced pain in my left foot for a Reflexology massage. I found the massage to be more painful than relaxing, but this was my first Reflexology massage so it could just be a misunderstanding on my part about how the process is supposed to work.
It was a very nice facility and Buster (dog) was very cute. Nourhy was very accommodating and easy to talk too.
Unfortunately, by the time I walked 3-blocks back to my car my foot hurt just as much as it did before the massage. Not good! I was hoping to get at least a few pain-free days after the massage. Only 3 stars. -

WONDERFUL! If I had to describe this in 1 word - but good thing I don't have to, because there are so many good things I have to say about Nourhy!
I took the best-friend last weekend for a massage for the very first time. It was a complete surprise for him! Nourhy was such a wonderful person and I really believe in the energies that people pass on to you. She has so much positive energy that you just instantly feel calm and relaxed. Even though I wasn't the one getting the massage, I felt it.
But the actual massage was even better, as the best-friend tells me. He said she knew exactly which points of stress to tackle and was very patient and gentle. He felt like totally a new person and so calm all evening!
Nourhy also gives some healthy advice on diet, de-stressing and drinking water! She is very genuine and really believes in her work, which is why my bff and I both were glad we found her!
Thank you Yelp for helping me find her!Listed in: The Un-Girly Girl

I was given a gift certificate from my husband as an anniversary gift. I read the reviews from Yelp and was going into this massage with an open-mind since this was different from the typical massages I get from the variety of boutiques and large chains. First of all, I will preface this review with the fact that I was late for my appoitment but Nourhy seem so frazzled by my tardiness that I could sense this would not go well. She did offer to reschedule our session but her tone on the phone when I call to tell her I was at her previous location was so condescending that when I arrived I just wanted to"get it over with" and those were my exact words to her. Literally we stood by the door for five minutes and she seem more concern with why I was late then getting me set up for the massage once I got there. It never bother me that my massage would be cut short ( since she told me it would be since she had a client that would be coming at noon). If you work as long as I have you take accountability for your oversights and being late was mine so I never had an issue with being late and having my massage cut in half. I'm all about respecting people's time so I was going to respect her's.
Second of all, I wasn't too impressed with the massage. I've had better massages for less money. The kicker was that she felt inclined to provide me unsolicited advice on who I was as a person. I've never had a massage where someone tells you how unhealthy you are as a person. I'm sorry but the last time I checked a massage therapist isn't a doctor and Nourhy I've been to the doctor in the last month and there's nothing physically wrong with me. Do I need to lose a bit of weight? Yes I do but my doctor has never told me I'm on the verge of diabetes so I'm not sure why she felt the need to tell me that I was either. Also, she felt I had negative people in my life and am emotional eater-sorry to rain on your parade but I don't fall into either one of those categories. I think you can't just categorize people by their horiscope signs nor their feet in my opinion. Maybe that's the rational side coming out on me or maybe its educational background coming out from my MBA from University of Chicago (that's right Nourhy I'm actually educated from a Top Tier school) that inform me you can't always assess people after a 1/2 hour of meeting them.
Just for your information I have led teams of people, manage million dollar projects, chosen as a leader for activity-based organizations, mentor people, so to have one person tell me that I'm a shy individual was ridiculous to me. Did I feel the need to tell Nourhy all these things? No. I have stood up for myself in several ways in my life but needless to say getting a massage wasn't one of the ways I felt like I needed to but I will now. I will say one last comment about Nourhy, she may be great for some people, but she wasn't for me. My family owned their own business for 37 years and never once did they ever call their clients at their place of employment and tell them to "check their emotions" and/or leave him/her a message telling them they are not courageous. My parents always believed in the philosophy that the customer is always right and try to appease their customers but I guess Nourhy doesn't believe in that philosophy.Comment from Nourhy C. of Now Studio 11/1/2011

I have never had a professional massage before so I don't have much to compare to. But I have to say that I had an amazing experience here at NOW.
Nourhy was as nice as could be and really fixed me up. I had had a neck spasm earlier in the week and could hardly move! I went to the doctor and she suggested to get a massage. I took my iPhone out and immediately looked up a massage place on Yelp. NOW had the highest rating and really good reviews so I called her up from the doctors office and she told me to come on over!
The place is super cute and VERY comfortable. You won't feel rushed here or intimidated. I felt so comfortable during the massage that I think I might have fallen asleep. It was wonderful and my neck felt better immediately and I felt completely healed the following day, which Nourhy said might happen.
I can't recommend this place enough. I know I'll be coming back. -

I've been to Nourhy twice now and amazing!!!
I never fall asleep when someone is massaging me but Nourhy puts me in such a relaxing state that I can't help it! Buster helps me relax by reminding me to breathe... he's so cute and he reminds me to breathe but just being a loud breather :) so adorable!
She uses a combination of techniques including cranial sacral therapy and relexology techniques. After my second visit with her, my mind felt so clear (I'm convinced that it's the cranial sacral therapy is the key)- I don't know how to explain it but to say that it was the best ever!!! One visit and you'll realize that this place is a peaceful oasis.
I'll continue to go back.
FYI:
(1) she accepts credit cards
(2) street parking is accessible - always can find a spot right in front
(3) sells a variety of cute things (stationary, eye pillows, jewelry, etc) she never mentions that she sells them so NO pressure at all to purchase anything from her. I think I'll return for an eye pillow next time
(4) skeptics out there that usually go to upscale spas - enter her door and you'll realize what everyone is raving about - trust me! -
Review from Lisa A.
After yet another visit to Nourhy yesterday, I feel the need to write a follow-up review.
Yep - she still very much deserves 5 stars. I just like to stress here - that Nourhy is definitely not your typical-spa-like-massage therapist. If you're looking for a deep tissue, shiatsu and such - you may walk out with a bit of disappointment. No, Nourhy would not elbow those knots you have on your shoulder blades. With her - dare I say - magic hands, she will, however - soothe the knots away. Whenever she 'works on me' , she always mixed a few techniques, from craniosacral to foot reflexology. She knows exactly which muscle is aching without even need to ask you. Sometimes she works on an aching muscle that you didn't even know existed.
Nourhy, to me, is more like a healer. Come with your aches and pain, with an open heart and an open mind - and you will walk out feeling great. I promise you.Listed in: It's "Me" time ...

I wasn't able to reach Nourhy immediately and wound up going elsewhere for my massage. Nourhy called me back, and after explaining what had happened, she gave me a ton of fantastic advice to help next time my back seized and advice on how to keep it from seizing in the first place.

I am not a contemplate-your-navel type ~ I'm an Aries after all. I am an insurance analyst by day, artist and performer by night, who has hit that inevitable wall of physical and emotional pain brought on by life in these times. So I have been searching for someone with just the right amount of medical knowledge, bodywork acuity, spiritual sophistication and healing aptitude to set me on my path.
It's Nourhy.
All that she imparted in one session dovetails with what my doctors, therapists and learned confidant have diagnosed, in one way or the other.
Simply put, I am a natural born skeptic, but I trust her - and I will return. -

I received a gift certificate to Nourhy's studio for my birthday. This was a particularly thoughtful gift because I suffer from chronic back pain. I should also mention that I've only had a couple professional massages in my life, and while never doubtful that massages provide pleasure and relaxation, I have always been dubious as to whether they serve any true therapeutic purpose.
I feel differently after my session with Nourhy. She understood my back problems on both a personal and professional level and tailored the massage to address my specific complaints. She's also really sweet and not at all contrived or sentimental (though she does believe in pet psychics). I left feeling floaty and confident and certainly experienced less back pain in the days that followed. Oh, and cute resident dog as well. I'll be going back--no pun intended! -

Nourhy was one of the first people I met when I moved to Chicago. I walked into her studio vibrating w/ stress from a cross-country move, new job, not knowing anyone in the city, the whole nine. I'm sure I was speakin in tongues and makin no kinda sense. Her energy (yes! energy! I'm from San Francisco, I believe!) is calming, warm, and well-balanced. She put me at ease immediately with her easy-going personality and fantastic reflexology skills. And I agree 100% with the reviews describing her finely tuned sixth sense; it's like talking to an old friend. Or, you know, God.

Recently I went to Nourhy for a massage and am so happy to have found her. She has a very healing personality and has strong , wonderful hands. My back feels SO much better! I left her place feeling very relaxed but also energised and joyful with a sense of overall balance. Her place is like a little gem with attention to details and comfort and nice low-lighting. I'm definitely going back for a 90 minute soon. Oh, I work in a super posh spa as a therapist and have had lots of massages for what that's worth. Nourhy and her studio are one of life's little necessities...an oasis of calm in the city and in your day.

I am never getting another massage from anyone BUT Nourhy! She is the only person who has actually massaged out this chronic shoulder/neck pain i've had for years. Others temporarily helped the problem for about a few days, but since getting my massage over a month ago, I"m still feeling great! She is very accommodating, sincere and definitely knows what she is doing. She used various techniques on me, including cupping, which I never have had done to me before, but it felt great! I cannot stop raving about her to all my friends that I decided I needed to tell all of yelp. Friends from out-of-town have already decided a trip to Nourhy is a must when they visit me next, just from what I have told them. Thank you, Nourhy!!!

I was given a $100 gift certificate for an hour with Nourhy recently. I'm glad to see so many others have had great experiences with her, though that was not the case for me. The massage itself was akin to ones I've had from students for $25. Within a few hours my chronic upper back pain was back as much as ever. Most of the time she was working on me she lectured me about being too thin, not eating enough protein, and lacking upper body strength. Apparently my morning kefir-banana-strawberry smoothies are too sweet and starchy and my rowing and swimming routines aren't rigorous enough. When I asked for diet advice, she sent me to the internet. When I pointed out that I've always been thin, and used the example of my male friends filling out in their early 20s while I remained the same weight, she said they were probably just eating too much junk food.
After holding my feet for like 10 minutes, the music stopped and she told me I needed to stop thinking so much. Beyond eating and working out more, I would need ongoing, regular acupuncuture and massage.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit of a stress case and that I could take better care of myself, but neither did the advice I receive about how to improve nor did the way I receive it impress me. In contrast, a few years ago I received another professional massage which involved some mix of traditional massage and some kind of energy work through pressure points and my back felt better afterward than it had in years. All tingly with energy. The guy who worked on me then also counseled that I could use to "let go" of some of my pain. This was an excellent experience not only because he gave me a sense of what it feels like not to have back pain, if only for a short while, but he pointed to the source of my pain without making me feel defensive or condescended to.
I didn't really want to write a negative review here, but when I saw how many unfailingly positive reviews there were, I decided I should say something. Looking at the other reviews here, Nourhy clearly has something going for her. I suspect folks who are into energy work and the like will have a great experience. But she's not for everyone, especially if you're focused on immediate pain relief. If this wasn't a gift, I would have chosen otherwise and I suspect I would have been better off for it.Comment from Nourhy C. of Now Studio 6/25/2010

Nourhy is a GODDESS!
(For some reason, Yelp appears to have eaten my original review, so I'm posting again)
My cousin introduced me to Nourhy last year with a massage as a Christmas gift in 2005, and I am incredibly pleased with all of the services I have enjoyed there. First of all, her studio is wonderful, and she makes her patrons feel right at home. Her adorable dog kept me company while I waited for a girlfriend to finish enjoying her massage. The setting is a welcome change from the typical awkward spa experience that I've come to dread. Her studio is great, and it feels as if I'm visiting a friend at their apartment, rather than bundling myself up in a bathrobe and sitting in a waiting room trying to avoid eye contact with with other women, as in most salons. I have been to see Nourhy several times, both for basic massage and craniosacral work. She not only treats the body, but is extremely intruitive, a skill that lends itself very well to the experience. Additionally, her prices are completely reasonable, and her hours are very flexible. All of my visits have been heavenly, and I plan to continue seeing Nourhy as often as I can find the time! If you're wondering where you can recieve amazing services from an incredible person, look no further. Go. Call. It will be the best experience you've ever had. -

I wish there was a way to give a negative star rating for Nourhy. I bought a gift certificate for my wife for our first anniversary to get a message. I bought it from Nourhy because she had gotten great reviews. Well, she was not as good as advertised. My wife called me after her session in tears, telling me that she was referred to as fat, sad and she was an emotional eater who ate when they were bored. I did not spend my hard earned money to have my wife berated and humiliated. So I called Nourhy the Monday following the incident to bring this to her attention. She basically said to me that my wife was a liar, and that everything she told me was untrue. I told her that I believed my wife's story and was very displeased with the events, Nourhy was nice enough to offer a PARTIAL refund, and kept telling me that she hoped I didn't put a bad review on Yelp. I wasn't going to put this review out until I get another phone call from my wife informing me that Nourhy had left her a very nasty voicemail again berating her about how she hid behind her husband and that she thought that their conversations went differently. I don't run my my own business but I know enough to say, this is a bad way to run it.

After reading all the kudos from the yelpers out there, I thought I would treat myself to a little rubdown from Nourhy to help with the winter blues. I'm definitely spoiled; one of my many job perks has been to get massages all over the world, and I've had some really good ones. But none compare to Nourhy's magical healing hands. Between her calming energy, her obvious knowledge, and her strength, I left feeling like a different person. And the bonus? I got in some quality time with her adorable dog Buster, who put the icing on the cake of my day. Thanks Nourhy! I'll definitely be back.

I'm an official FON (Fan of Nourhy). I went to Now Studio yesterday because, due to recent work overload/my body on full revolt to the cold, I'm as limber as a toothpick. Although I had signed up for reflexology, she listened to my body's complaints and gave me a bit of everything -- shoulder massage, cranial, and reflexology. She gave great suggestions on how to feel better (yes, I should eat better) and some exercises I could do to keep my body from getting in such a state. Also her dog, Buster, rocks. If you want a low-key, bang for your buck massage experience, come see Ms. Nouhry.

Nourhy is amazing, both as a person and a service provider. I go to her for craniosacral sessions every 3-4 weeks and it is the best., most stress-relieving thing I have ever done for myself. Because craniosacral is done with such a light touch, I was skeptical at first that it would have any effect on me. But once I experienced the incredibly relaxed, blissed out state I was in afterwards (WAY more than after any massage I've ever had), I became a believer! Buster, Nourhy's sweetheart of a dog snoozes and snores softly in the room during the treatment, which for me serves as the perfect white noise and I actually doze off sometimes too. Nourhy really takes an interest in her clients and has a way of making me feel like the most special person in the world while I'm at her studio (which is super homey and adorable, BTW). I look forward to my session with her all month.

i stumbled upon now studio a few months ago, after performing a yelp search for massage therapists in my neighborhood. i went in for a simple massage. when i left, not only had i achieved my goal of extreme relaxation, i felt like i found exactly what i was looking for.
i didn't know what to expect, having never been to a massage studio that wasn't part of a corporate environment or through a doctor. but nourhy greeted me at the door herself, with her canine "co-worker," buster, and both are friendly and welcoming.
just being in her presence is calming, and with her accurate perceptions about my life and my needs, and her thoughtful insights, i felt completely comfortable within moments.
her studio is decorated with deep colors and dim lighting, which is a standard for this type of environment, but it is done uniquely and feels very down-to-earth, conveying two attributes of the woman behind it all.
and needless to say, the massage experience itself was wonderful. almost unworldly. i couldn't ask for anything more.
the price is average, and completely worth it. especially for those of you like me, who appreciate and prefer to support independent businesses. i have visited her several times since my first visit a few months ago, and will continue to frequent now studio as long as i live in the city. -

It was OK. The studio had a very peaceful atmosphere. The craniosacral session was relaxing but that is all. My reflexology appointment was cut short due to a problem she had with scheduling, so I don't think I got the full benefit of it.
