Hey, I found my new favorite place in the whole wide world!

You know that funny feeling you get when you're about to enter a new store and your heart skips a little bit? I love that feeling. And walking into Noun did just that.

Wow. The mixture of  vintage and modern is very cool. I love the old desks with cards in the drawers. The beaker vases on top of a old vanity. Old tins displaying modern jewerly.  The art is very unique and one of a kind.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any better.....they have cupcakes. Could there be anything more lovely while shopping?

Yuppie is a noun right?  Over-consumption?  2121 Belmont, that's a proper noun huh?  Oh what about "die yuppie scum", I think that's a verb, and adjective and then a noun.

Uhhhhhh......condo-shopping, Toyota Prius, pesto, 401K, latte, baby-boomer, Zupan's.

I really have nothing against this place, I just hate all the yuppie knick-knack crap stores that pollute my hood.

Everywhere I looked... I wanted to touch. I wanted to buy.

I had to stop. I was on a mission to pick up cupcakes from Saint tucked away at the far end of the space.

Everywhere I looked... I wanted to touch. I wanted to buy.

I tried to escape with only cupcakes in hand. I...Could...Not.

I failed miserably - and a couple of impulsive purchases later, I walked out with four small photos from local artist Elizabeth Soule.

I yearn to go back. To look. To touch. To spend like a wild woman.

Damn you Noun.

I wish I had more money so I could fully appreciate this store. Great little find to roam around in if strolling around on Belmont St. It has really cool little things so those who like to people-watch, this is the place to thing-watch. Everything is just so random.

Also, I didn't know Saint Cupcake had a second location. I like the idea of Saint Cupcake located conveniently in the back, but if I were the shop owner, I wouldn't be able to stand grubby kids and teenagers (and I suppose some adults) leaving trails of crumbs and frosting over all my unique merchandise. C'mon, people. . . .as a grown-ass woman myself, I seem to get frosting everywhere with a Saint Cupcake, but I do that in the privacy on my own home (because it's embarassing).

Oh, and I love the jewelry they carry made by local artists. I wish they were less expensive so I could support these local artists but, you know, I'm poor.

I love design blogs and if this place doesn't already, it should have one. I love the items and the sweet cupcakes in the back room. Sweet jewelry and the owners are lovely people!

I want to live in this store.

sooooooo adorable. Had i not had a space constraint with my luggage, I would have easily purchased multiple things at this place (cake stand, lamp, tea set).  I felt the prices were quite fair, as the condition of the merchandise was very good and also the pieces were quite unique!  it was a great mix of old and new stuff.

also...a great idea to pair it with saint cupcake inside!  makes your browsing that much sweeter!!  Where else could you leave with an antique treasure and a delicious cupcake!  *ooooh portland*

Very cute selection and I can't help loving them just for their clever name. Plus, what gets better than an antique store housed with saint cupcakes?

Overall good times!

Don't you want to bestow five stars for just its name alone? How about the cupcakes in the back of the store? And if those factors don't sway you, how about the refresher in English grammar that you pick up from looking at the goods?

"Oooh, old dresser." Exclamation, adjective, noun.
"Cute purse!" Adjective, noun. Exclamatory form.
"Card maxed out?" Noun, subject. Verb, bad verb. Adverb. Interrogative form, although you know the answer.

I just love noun.  It's like someone went inside my head, took all the stuff out, and arranged it into a perfect little store.  Some new things, some old things, some odd things, all reasonably priced.

And then they added cupcakes.

this shop makes me happy. often times i get overwhelmed, or disgusted by walking into places that are packed with crappy, poor quality items. everything in here seems to have a sweet reason for being picked. everything is tasteful, yet quirky. antiques, locally made, or interesting--everything fits one of those categories.

each time i've gone in, i've been greeted nicely and had some type of friendly interaction. i enjoy geeking out about fonts with them. my favorite things in the shop are the old russian flash cards, the hourglasses, the clean-lined ceramics and the buttons! they have a series of dictionary buttons with each alphabet letter--so far i have 'eatable' and 'greenish'.

i love the hand-written price/information cards. it shows the care they put into things. great art on the walls from a variety of local artists. i can always find a gift in here when i'm looking. and the fonts! so many neat fonts and old letter press letters to play with.

My favorite (and one of my most useful)  piece of furniture was acquired here...impulsively, of course! But, what made it so exciting is the fact that this great 3 drawer oak filing cabinet was priced juuuusssst right! I use it every day and love it more and more as I squirrel away all manner of ephemera!  Thank you, Noun! You helped me (a person) to find a place for (my many) things!

Another trip is coming up and I plan to stop in here first thing! And then I'll move on to Saint Cupcake......

Noun is amazing!  My dear friend Stephanie owns this shop.  She is sassy, funny and has a knack for finding fabulous one of a kind items for this cute little shop in the heart of the Belmont neighborhood.  Go often, as Steph gets incredible new finds constantly.  It's a neat mix of antique furniture, locally made jewelery, cards and buttons, and unique vintage items such as bread boxes and punchbowls.  And the prices!  Wow.  Everything is priced so reasonably here!  You can even buy a retro fridge which comes in an array of colors including pink and orange.  How fun!

Everything is displayed beautifully, and descriptions and ideas for alternative uses are handwritten on tags attached to the items for sale.  While you're browsing (and hopefully purchasing something wonderful), head to the back of the shop and buy a cupcake from the great folks at St. Cupcake who share this space with Noun.

Belmont is a great little neighborhood and Noun fits nicely into it!  If you're shopping at Zupan's across the street or having a treat at the Pied Cow next door, stop by and visit Stephanie and Thom at Noun.  I guarantee you will find something special!

I love books, I like grammar, and I adore Noun!

Cards, jewelry, and artwork from local artists. Antique trinkets, furniture, and household items. Amidst all of these treasures are gift-tag descriptions to inform and entertain. I myself am not much of a cupcake fan, but if you are, this is a 2-in-1 with Saint Cupcake tucked neatly in the back.

The next time I find some extra $$ in my bank account, I know the first place I'll go. (And it doesn't have to be a lot, Noun's prices are very reasonable.)

For those of you both unfamiliar or overly used to Portland, I must say this city has some of the best shopping I've ever seen. Tons of small boutique gift stores with a lot of great locally made stuff. In Denver we have maybe two or three stores like this, but it seems like every corner in Portland has a great shop on it (whether it be clothing, tea, or quirky knick-knacks).

Noun was one of the best I saw- great assortment of home decor, jewelry, kitchy cards, etc without being too over the top. A little on the feminine side, but even my husband loved the strange antiques. The owner was exceptionally pleasant to talk to, and be sure to check out the cupcake stand in the back!

Also, I got one of the best finds on my trip at this store. An old wooden children's block with the word "tramp" on one side...although it is obviously an ode to Lady and the Tramp I think this is fabulous.

I wound up passing through Noun many times before Saint Cupcake actually opened, because they share a retail space and I popped in to continually ask when cupcakes would be brought to my neighborhood.

Luckily enough, this shop on Belmont is more than just the cupcakes in the back.  The carefully picked worn and well-loved antique items selected by owner Stephanie are all gorgeous.  Items span from an antique furniture to cursive typewriters to a big beautiful pink refridgerator, to handmade items from local crafters and artists.  In her own words, Stephanie likes anything that "has a story."

I come here everytime I visit Portland because I never fail to find something i want.  I remember stopping by before the St. Cupcake was built in the back.  I remember perusing with a red velvet cupcake when it opened.

With it's great selection of furnishings, art and accessories, antiques and local artists works, I am always always wishing I had more then a carryon luggage.

This trip I bought an antique tuirquois typewriter.  For $33.  Yeah. I KNOW!!  I sat it in my lap on the flight home.

Everyone was JEALOUS.

Stephanie and her boy Tom are awesome. Stop in and say hi.

very clever store!  the merchadise is a fun mix of boho stuff with a vintage twist.  there's stuff for home and stuff for you (i purchased a cute headband for me).  what i really liked were all the little notes with little tidbits about the merchandise.  so cute that there was even one at the check out counter "Hi My Name is Dean!  what's yours?".  i like that.  and Dean was very clever and nice too, by the way!

Sepcial Bonus Prize:  cupcakes in the back!  who can resist their evil charms?

Greatest local in PDX for eclectic, sweet and stylish home good and chotchkies (sp) that you never knew you wanted.  Hello corduroy placemats with little birdies on them!  They also carry a lot of locally produced merchandise, and there is an incredible bonus in the back. The Eastside St. Cupcake's.  And we've already talked about their amazing properties.

well selected curated merchandised product.  cultivated, I would say.
and the copy on the tags is worth spending time with.
A bowl of buttons brought to you by the letter b. where all the buttons have sections of the dictionary (b's only, of course) copied and circled and why?
Why not?
I mean really.  You kill me with cuteness, I am dead.

I was so excited when I found Noun because I now had one place to go whenever I needed to buy gifts for my girlfriends. I decided to keep it a secret from all of them thinking, it's mine, mine, all mine! Realizing how unfair this was to the business owner, I told them all about it and they all jumped up in the air, screamed, clicked their heels together and went shopping. They were not let down.
The owner has a great eye and mixes antiques with new, and traditional with slightly odd, wonderfully. The prices are unbelievable. The first time I picked up these adorable plates with chandeliers on them I squinted my eyes to prepare for the shock. $30 for a set of 4! I about dropped them in disbelief.
I love all the homey vinettes of merchandise. I usually walk through over and over because I always discover something wonderful that I missed previously.
Oh, and of course the cupcakes... mmm... cupcakes.

Noun is a very cute, albeit somewhat puzzling little shop located on Belmont Ave. I have to admit that I wasn't quite as enthusiastic about the place as some of the other folks that have posted (mainly, I have to note, of the female persuasion), but still, a decent little shop. Still, I puzzle. Why is there a cupcake place tucked in the back of the store? Why is there a big pink 1950's looking fridge back there as well?? Incongruous, to say the least. Not bad, just...puzzling.
My main complaint with the shop when I went in was that the girl at the counter said "hi" when I walked in, and then proceeded to completely ignore me the whole time I was in the shop. For anyone who's read my reviews, you know that's a major pet peeve of mine. I was actually standing right in front of her, making interested noises over a set of glasses or a lamp or something, and still her nose was glued to her computer screen. I finally had to bait her, and asked "hey, do you know anything about that lamp up there"? To which she replied "no, sorry, I'm just filling in for the owner, she's on vacation". Evidently, so was she. However, I won't blame the shop for this mishap...I'll just hope for a better experience the next time I stop in.

This is such a fun little shop! It's the kind of place that has everything I want but nothing I really need. The owner brings in her cool & unusual finds constantly. It's a good mix of new and antique and some crafty handmade stuff as well. They even sell new "retro inspired" refridgerators in every color! And they have some lamps to die for! Oh and the purses!! I bought a trio of deco vases (as a gift) for about $20 bucks! $20 BUCKS - you can't beat that!

Trying to find a last-minute birthday gift for a girlfriend? Noun's your place! It's full of cute trinkety things (many antique/vintage), cards, and such. Plus, with the addition of Saint Cupcake in the back it's pretty much a one-stop shop for any celebratory needs. And there are lots of affordable choices, plus the environment is super welcoming for browsers.
