Ok, so I never got any response from the business after this god awful, worst haircut I've ever received. So I've decided to update since I never received any sort of refund or offer to fix my $60 botched haircut. I was trying to be nice in the original review but as time went on I've only gotten more angry. And yes it is now about six months later. In my original review, I did not even mention the horrible bangs I received because I was trying to convince myself they looked normal. But yes I had a breakdown in my car after I got them. I unfortunately deleted the pictures I took from right after I left the salon.
Yesterday, I finally was able to get back to my regular stylist, and by now the bangs have grown to just below my earlobe and are still ruining my pictures and self confidence as they won't stay pulled back. They are also impossible to style. As soon as I sat down for my appointment, my stylist said "What the heck is going on with these? Who did this?" There was nothing she could do without chopping a lot of my hair off besides give me Jennifer Aniston style face framing pieces to blend them out.
She says the stylist just straight up chopped my hair in a line as a "step." I also want it noted that I didn't ask for this, I actually told the Notch stylist to do WHATEVER SHE THOUGHT WAS BEST when I asked for bangs.
Shame on this place. Attached is a picture of my hair from less than a month later. There was really no styling to save the bangs either that I could do.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 21, 2018Previous reviewFirst let me start by saying that my stylist was very nice, and I received good customer service from her. However, I ended up really disappointed with this cut that cost me $60. I called today and immediately got an appointment, which was very convenient and props to them for that.
About a month ago, I let a friend cut my hair because I'm a broke college student. Now that I had some money to spend, I booked an appointment to have my cut evened out. The website said it was $45+ and it was my mistake on not making sure that the stylist I chose would cost that price. I was surprised that the total came out to $60 at the register and wish that they had maybe said on the phone if I had a junior or senior stylist or even told me the price. My cuts at home at a nice salon of the same caliber if not even better are only $35, the hairwash is pleasant, there's complimentary drinks, etc...
Starting off, I always think that it feels really nice to have my hair washed at the salon. However, this washing was honestly rather painful, and I don't even consider myself tenderheaded. The stylist was just rather rough with my hair in general.
I didn't even notice how uneven my cut was until I got to my car. The left side of my hair looks just as uneven if not even moreso than it did before I came in. The right side looks perfectly fine, but then again I was fine with the way that side looked before.
So basically, I left the salon with my hair looking just as uneven as it had before when my friend cut it with $10 scissors from Sally's, except now I am out $60 plus tip...
This is just not what I expected from a salon with such great reviews. My main gripe is that the cut was SO expensive for it to end up uneven and for my shampooing to not even be pleasant. - Darcy P.Saint Louis, MO102316Aug 24, 2016
My husband was able to get a same day appointment for both of us!
I have never had someone cut and style my hair exactly like a picture I showed them! Excellent job! I will be returning. Thanks Angela!
My husband has always wanted a straight razor shave and has never had his hair cut anywhere but Great Clips. He loved every minute of his cut and shave! Jenn was fantastic.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Imogine B.Saint Louis, MO1210Jan 26, 2018
Queers beware!
The first thing I will say is that Alayna is great and did a fantastic job on my hair. She was sweet and didn't force conversation and I'm glad I got a haircut from her and if this review was about her it would be 5 gleaming stars.
However...
I moved to town in August and have mad anxiety so haven't been able to force myself to go get a haircut. Finally I decided to get it done, and after trying to find a "Queer Friendly" barber shop or salon and falling short, I decided to go with Notch. They were close, they seemed cool as hell, and super cheap prices.
I saw Tori did dope fades so I went ahead and booked with her online for a men's cut.
My issues with the salon itself start the day before my appointment.
I got a call from them where they confirmed my name, asked if I meant to put down Women's haircut. I said no, I wanted a men's cut. They asked if it was for someone else.... again I said no. I was then told that Tori "wasn't comfortable" with that and if I could be switched to Alayna.
Miffed but desperate for a haircut, I said yes.
I ruminated of why this chick would be uncomfortable with cutting my hair and decided maybe she only likes to work on men. Pretty transphobic but okay
When I was at the shop, however, I saw her trimming a lady with long hair. This leads me to the conclusion that she's transphobic or homophobic. Maybe both.
The icing on the cake comes when after I got my cut, I scheduled a touch up in 4 weeks and then left. When I checked my email to confirm my appointment they had me down for..... wait for it.......
A woman's haircut.
SO
Queers Beware. Don't book with Tori. Maybe skip this place in general.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0Business owner information

Imogine,
First of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for your experience at Notch. As a queer business owner, I take your comments very seriously. We strive to provide a “safe space” for everyone who walks through our doors.
I would like you to know that our salon is in the process of changing our service names and descriptions to reflect a gender neutral experience. We believe that removing gender from the service name and description entirely, will help alleviate confusion for all clients. In the future, our clients will book their services based on length, not gender.
As for your comments about my staff:
Tori did not speak to our receptionist about your service, and she would have been delighted to cut your hair. Our receptionist acted on her own by asking you if you meant to book a “men’s cut” with Tori. I absolutely understand your frustrations, and your feelings are 100% valid. Your anger, however, is misdirected. Tori is in no way transphobic or uncomfortable with queer people. She was also cutting a mans hair while you were in the salon, a fact that is reflected in our scheduling, and was confirmed by reviewing my security cameras. Your accusations are damaging to her character and career, something she does not deserve.
We have tried calling you several times to apologize, and explain our side of the story. My receptionist is devastated her conversation with you led to this review. We spoke at length about how to avoid this from happening to anyone in the future.
I hope that you will reconsider your words, and that our plan of action will keep anyone in the future from feeling uncomfortable in our salon. You can call us anytime during business hours to discuss your experience, and we will always do our best to make that experience positive. Again, I am sorry that we failed you this time.

I was referred here by a friend and I'll be honest, when I saw the prices I was a bit apprehensive. Why would me, a great clips coupon user, be interested in some overpriced posh hair salon? Well, they knocked my socks off. They are totally worth the money if you are looking for something new and fresh for that mop on your head.
I had Micah as my stylist. He did an amazing job with my hair, which is not only thinning on top but also turns into a curly mess whenever you put product in it. He was polite, friendly, and professional. He showed me not only how I should get my hair cut in the future, but also how I should style it at home. My appointment time was kept, the place was clean and inviting, and I walked out of there feeling better about myself. Isn't that all we really want?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tierney Y.Austin, TX159Dec 16, 2016
I started going to this salon as soon as it opened as its extremely close to my house. The first 2 or 3 times were great, so great in fact that I sent 3 friends and a boyfriend who made it their "go to" salon. But the past 18 months have not been good and my friends and boyfriend all say the same things;
1) Its become too hard getting into see the person you need,
2) the last couple of dye jobs don't last after 1 wash.
3) They cancel appointments at the last minute or change you to someone you've never been to at the last minute.
4) The cuts are either not what is asked for or are just not good.
5) the price is never the same for the same job
And if you say something, which i know I have, no one offers to fix it. They say sorry, but make no attempt to make it better. Basically, i feel like I have tried to be a good client and sent ppl there when i thought it was really good, because I want to support my local business and I want them to be successful, but now it feels like its not the salon I've been going to for over 2 plus years, like i am a stranger every time i go in and have to get reused to someone new. Maybe its because i can't ever get an appointment with the original stylist i went to, i am not sure. It just has not been consistent.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Megan J.San Diego, CA244249May 24, 2019
I went to get my hair cut at Notch a couple months ago, Dec 21, for the first time to invest in the LGBTQ community. The experience was fine, I liked my haircut and color. I spent WAY too much on a haircut and color - just to find out today when I got the next haircut that my hair was botched. Today I went to go get another haircut, and they told me that there is a layer of hair that was cut (he said looked like an accident) in the middle of my hair and they never told me about it. I should have never paid for that haircut, and the hairdresser should have told me about it. I will never return. Disappointing and frustrating

This is the spot. I usually dread getting haircuts, especially when going from long to short hair. Micah took such great care of me making the whole experience anxiety free. He also is just an all around a rad person. The whole staff is top notch( pun intended )making every aspect of the process so just chill. I've gotten so many compliments and my confidence about my look has grown exponentially.

My stylist Angela is patient, talented, and a sweet soul. She does a great job and I always look forward to seeing her. She does wonders. I'm very happy with Notch overall, it's always clean and has a very happy professional staff.

I'll be honest, I was visiting St. Louis and needed a color - fast! The salon said I needed a consult before they would schedule an appointment, so I met with Michelle. She was great and seemed incredibly competent. Unfortunately, she wasn't available while I was in town, so she had to refer me to another stylist for an appointment the next day. My roots had grown out about an inch and my stylist wasn't available before I left town, so I was thrilled to get an appointment at all, and besides, it was an overall color so how can you mess that up, right? I'm pretty fearless when it comes to my hair and I've never had a bad experience with color. Well, until now.
I honestly can't remember the stylist's name, but she sectioned off my hair, and completed one section at a time. I've had my hair colored for about 35 years and have never had anyone apply color in this way, but I thought maybe that's the way their color manufacturer specified the application? By "completed," I mean applied color to the roots of one section, applied color to the rest of that section, then combed it through. This process took around forty-five minutes, so color was on the right side of my head forty-five minutes longer than the left side of my head.
In my experience, stylists always put the color on all of the roots, then the rest of the hair, then comb it through. You apply the color as fast as possible so that the color processes evenly. This just makes sense. This is also the way that I have seen everyone else do it.
During the application process, she dropped a large amount of color on my face, and she told me not to worry, because she had something that would take it off. While she was applying the color, I realized that she was either very new to the industry, or did not have a cosmetology license at all, simply because her methods were not those of an experienced professional.
Once she was done applying the color, she walked off, saying that it would take 35 minutes to process. She made no attempt at that time to remove the color from my face.
When she returned, she asked a co-worker for some color remover, and then rubbed it over the huge drop on my face. It's pretty dark back in the corner and I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't tell if it was gone or not, but it appeared to be gone. She took me to the rinsing bowl, and rinsed my hair. She didn't wash it, but okay, whatever. She then "styled" my hair. No flatiron or anything. Okay. In the dark salon, my color appeared to be even and I liked the new color, so I left happy.
When I got to my car, I looked in the mirror, the sheer amount of dye on my face was shocking. I have had stylists leave some dye on my face before, but this was ridiculous. She had, in fact, just smeared the dye around in that one spot, but it had dripped down under my chin. That spot alone was two inches long and one-half inch wide. All around my hairline was stained at least one-quarter inch all around. There were small spots like freckles all over my face. It was storming when I left the salon, and I had to park a block away, so I didn't return, I went back to my hotel 10 miles away.
That's when I saw the color.
Because of the weird way she applied the color, it was extremely uneven. It was darker on one side and lighter on the other. I lifted up the hair in the back, and she completely missed large patches of hair. Did she get tired? Did she run out of dye? I don't understand. This has never happened to me before. I have a lot of hair, but if you cover every strand, the dye always penetrates and sticks to my hair. I am even one of those rare individuals who can hold red for months on end.
I scrubbed my face with everything in my makeup bag. Nothing worked. I scrubbed until my skin was raw, but the dye was still there. It even dyed the fine hairs on my face dark brown, so I had to pluck them out! I had to attend my meetings the following day with copious amounts of makeup on and you could still see the dye! I looked online for hints about how to remove dye and bought everything that they suggested, but some of it is still there so it's just a waiting game for now until it fades away.
This was just shameful, sloppy work. She knew I was visiting from out of town and just didn't give a crap or perhaps she's just incompetent, I don't know, but this girl shouldn't be working on customers. I now have to pay someone else to fix my color, which will probably cost me twice as much for a corrective color, so I will pay at least 3x for one dye job.
As I said I was visiting from out of town. I had no time to go back and ask them to fix this mess, and I don't even think I would have wanted them to.
By the way, the receptionist was AWESOME. I want to put him in my pocket and take him home with me. Friendly, smiling, happy, smart, and fun! He was a ten out of five. Delightful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
