Review from Drew D.
My parents have lived in the Tampa area for close to 5 years now. They used to buy fresh seafood from a couple who sold it roadside right out-the-boat, but when that couple stopped selling in their area, they asked for a recommendation on where to get the best shrimp, and were told about Northside Seafood Market, buried off the main drags on a winding lane of warehouses, dry docks, boat detritus, etc.
The outside of the shop itself looks untouched since...about 1970. Peeling paint, gravel lot, right on the water. Manned by a solo proprietor; the sparse cases showcased fresh grouper, stone crab, shrimp & more, along with a few spice containers, calendars, and bric-a-brac. There was a home-made e-mail list; a good sign that I hadn't stepped through a time-space rip, and that it was indeed 2011. The clerk knew exactly what we needed; large shrimp, heads-on of course for the flavor. I think we got 3 pounds at less than $5 a pound---a most excellent deal. We sauteed them briefly in butter & garlic---as fresh & good as it gets. -

I have spent 99% of my life commercial fishing, most of it around or for Mr.Bill Hardee, the proprietor and operator of NORTHSIDE SEAFOOD, and you will never meet anyone who handle's his seafood any better than Bill, he also make's a killer Gumbo that he sells that if you try it, you're hooked for life. If you find yourself in Tarpon Springs or in the Bay area, it's well worth the trip if you really enjoy seafood and good honest people to deal with.
