Northside Chop Shop

Avoid this shop. Worst barbers I've ever met. Rude, and inexperienced. Quite a dirty shop too.

I had a fantastic experience. Top to bottom, extremely relaxed and professional.

Side bar:
- I was not excited to get a cut and more so a beard "shaping." However, my wife was growing more irritated with the craziness growing on my face. But, I saw a recommendation to see Scott from a friend who's opinion I trust, and I made the appointment.

I was able to get in the very next day easily. Upon entering, I recognized Scott from another event I was at, and I also immediately remembered that he was the gentlemen who recommended I blow dry and comb my beard after the shower. It seems silly, but that piece of advice, literally, shaped my life.

Scott was great, I explained that I wanted to keep length on my bear, but just make it look normal, and he did just that. I was also able to get some beard oil but also with an explanation on how to use it and its purposes.

Needless to say, I have officially found my "Chop Shop" for life.

I have been going to the Chop Shop since it moved to its current location. I have always received an acceptable cut but, lately I have been unable to get them to return my calls for an appointment. If this is how they plan to do business, I think I will look for a new stylist!

Sorry Scott...I think you may be allowing some vapid people to influence your business. You HAD a good thing going here. Too bad...I really liked the haircuts I received here.

I've received hundreds of compliments on my haircuts in the years that Scott Ponder has been cutting my hair. I first started going to him in 2006 and have stayed as loyal as possible despite leaving Cincinnati for three years to live in Minneapolis! When I would come visit the Nati, I'd hit up Scott to get in for a haircut because no one else has ever done right by my hair the way this man does. He does amazing work, and he's one of those fine barbers who you're more than glad to hang out with.

The new shop on Hoffner is really awesome, and brings a lot of awesome to Northside. The prices are very reasonable.

Charles and I started a conversation on the fly in a coffee shop last year about my hair. 15 minutes later I was in his chair. Poetic moment not intended. He's always available to schedule via text. He's polite when I have to cancel and always a joy to see when I inevitably come in. His talent is outstanding and his chat is delightful. Recommended for short cuts.

I've had a cut with Charles 3 times thus far. Each time I've asked for something a little different and he listened and delivered exactly what I wanted each time while offering professional advice to execute the plan. His skill with scissors leaves no doubt and his travels and personality makes for great conversation.

The shop as a whole is by far the best experience I've had. The shop is laid back and comfortable; the other stylists are super friendly. You can't go wrong here.

Love the Chop Shop! First off, it's like the coolest place to get your doo on... Secondly, the stylists, or at least my guy Charles, are spot-on with their creative talents and the perfect chop for your mangy mane. Prices are more than fair - a $50+ cut now costs me about $35. Appointments are very easy to make - I simply text my stylist and he responds pretty quickly and we set a time. The shop doesn't hold regular hours, and is open only when appointments are made. Plus, it's in the kewlness of Northside!

I have been going to Scott at the Chop Shop for about 3-4 years, and it's the best men's haircut in the city. Great attention to detail, and he listens to what you want. It is well worth the time and money for a slick contemporary cut. It's a no bullshit place with a distinct aesthetic, and a personal touch (Scott will remember things I don't even recall telling him).

This business is closed to new clients. Called several times over a two week period to schedule an appointment. No one ever answers the phone. I left messages and received no response. Then I saw it was best to text the stylists directly, so I did, again no response. Then I noticed on their Facebook page they are not accepting new clients, perhaps that should be the first thing on the answering machine or displayed on the homepage of their website. It should be further noted one of the owners also co-owns Ohio Valley Beard Supply. If this is how he conducts business I will no longer use any of his products.

I never leave reviews however I was so impressed by Derrick at Northside Chop Shop that I just had to sing his praises. He was a true artist. He talked me out of the cut I asked for and when he was finished I couldn't believe that he made my hair look as good as it did. He took his time to consult with me and was knowledgeable about my type of hair (fine&thin).He gave me a hairstyle that was no fuss and still very pretty. It is so hard to find someone who takes such pride in their work. He is very friendly too. I will definitely go to see him for now on. By the way everyone's hair looks great when they leave the salon, I'm writing this a week later.
