It is too bad this place closed or the owner retired, the couch and tv stand I purchased from here are still looking as good as the day I purchased them almost four years ago.

I did pick up a nice queen size bed with a very nice, stylish, cherry headboard and mattress with a pillow top for under 700. The bed was in stock and was delivered that same day. However this was a part of the retirement sale, and the price was just slightly above cost, and will probably never be duplicated.

I am not at all surprised to find so many five-star ratings for this place. I purchased furniture from Northern Home last year and just finished paying them off. I love all my pieces, but my sofa in particular gets the most compliments.

This is a family-owned business of the rarest breed nowadays: helpful people who remember your name, sell well-crafted merchandise at a reasonable price, and work with you for a payment plan that is mutually beneficial. Nothing complicated, no bullshit, no hassling phone calls, and no waiting on hold forever for someone to answer a simple question, be it about an order or to verify a payment.

After purchasing a leather chair from here, I later decided I wanted the partnering ottoman to go with it as well, and asked the fine folks at Northern Home to order the additional piece for me, which they did with no trouble. The ottoman was simply added to my outstanding balance and I was allowed to maintain my existing payment plan. What's more, since I had to wait longer than expected for the new piece to arrive, they didn't charge me for shipping and had the ottoman delivered to my front door. The whole transaction was so easy and pleasant I thought I had died and gone to consumer heaven. I guarantee Crate & Barrel never would've been so helpful, and their product certainly wouldn't have been as well made.

A lot of their product lines are European, so not everything in the shop is for everyone. If you're passing by on the walk outside, you might not even think there is anything desirable for you inside, but so long as you are in Lincoln Square and have a minute to spare, I encourage you to stop in quickly and take a look. There are a wide-range of options in a wide-range of eclectic styles, so I imagine conservative and contemporary furniture lovers alike can find at least one thing to satisfy their tastes somewhere in the store's two levels of clocks, artwork, bedroom sets, chairs, and etc.

I often recommend Northern Home Furnishings to friends in the market for a new furniture piece and would certainly not hesitate to purchase from them again myself in the future.

Top notch.

I walked by this place for months.  Some things in the window really had me questioning the taste, then I'd see things I wanted to get that second.  When I was moving into a larger space, I finally went in.  Now, I'll rarely go anywhere else.

The prices are fantastic for the quality.  I got a wonderful leather sofa and easy chair - must be comfortable as I'm routinely crashing without warning.  Also picked up a beautiful Mission-style coffee table and media unit.  Everyone that's seen them love my pieces.  Didn't plan it that way, but the wood pieces match the built-ins in my living room.

The customer service is tremendous.  There was no hard-sell.  Helmut's my point man.  When looking at media units, I was about to select the larger piece, due to the number of components.  Helmut stopped me, though, and recommended that I first measure them at home, as the larger piece could not accomodate larger components.  Sure enough, I had to get the smaller unit, saving me about $100.

Icing on the cake:  Free delivery!

I love this place. The furniture is of high quality and resonably priced. I really enjoyed working with Helmut. He was extremely helpful and patient during the decision-making process. What's better is he was really flexible. I purchased a great couch from him, but I ran into an unfortunate change of plans just prior to the couch's arrival. I had to cancel the couch, and Helmut was so understanding and willing to work with me.

I highly recommend this store to anyone in the market for great, stylish furniture. I will definitely return when it's time to buy some more.

This place is like going back in time to 1980!!! I have seen all of the pieces in my friend's starter apartments. The sales folks were sitting on couches, didn't even say hello (the place was empty). I walked around and saw a few clocks that were somewhat ok, but the furniture was out of date, expensive and just not worth the venture. I will say I had a great day in Lincoln Square afterwards but since the trip was for furniture - go elsewwhere!

I have walked into this place many times and never really thought about buying anything until lately.  Actually my mom turned me on to it and told me to check it out since i was in the market for some new pieces of furniture!  I needed a couch.
They have 3 levels of furniture.  You can walk around and just browse but if you need help they are very friendly and helpful.
My first piece was a couch....I found on the 2nd floor.  I at first thought their prices were "high" but after doing some shopping around at other places, I realized "hey couches are expensive!"
I then also picked up a bar table with 2 stools that fit perfectly in my kitchen!
Overall, they have some really nice furniture there, the prices are good considering they have FREE DELIVERY!  So that makes up for it!!!
I would recommend them, if you are in the area, check it out!!!!

We love this furniture store. After pricing at the usual retail places, We've noticed that we get more bang for our buck here. We bought a mod desk and hutch. Lovely. We also got a great dining pub table and stools.
The pieces are unique. The european couches/foldouts are perfect for the small chicago bedroom.
The service and delivery has been great. It's a fantastic local business. Poke you head in and take a peek.  would give them more stars if I could.

for years i passed this place thinking it  offered quasi furniture with out of date goods, til one day last year, i needed a sofa and chair combo POST HASTE to be delivered in two day's time, and had crossed off the usual suspects: roy's didn't have stock, smithe's pushed my budget past its comfort point, ikea didn't suit mom's taste, affordable portables shouted college dorm.

northern offered a great selection of pieces, in many different styles, for incredibly reasonable prices, and now a beautiful leather sofa and mission style chair graces my mom's living room, instantly upgrading it from an 80's avocado dive to its respectable place in the 21st century.

the only reason i've downgraded it a star is because of our weird delivery experience. i have to admit, i asked for a saturday delivery, which they accommodated nicely, but the catch was that only one guy showed up, and not a spring chicken by my husband's account. so this man comes huffing up to the door, asking for a hand, and the end result was my husband hauling a sofa and chair up two stories, with said delivery guy's help. i can only imagine what would have happened if i were the only one home. i mean, i'm as strong as the next 120 lb. woman, but lifting sofas is not part of my job profile. but we got our goods in time, for a wonderful price, and my husband didn't get a hernia, so all's well. i will definitely go back for future purchases, and i'll make sure our manual labor will not be required.

We purchased our Tempurpedic mattress here a few years ago and received a nice discount and good service.

I have also bought and received candle holders here. Unusual, sculptural pieces I have seen nowhere else!

I don't really "get" some of the furniture - it looks nice but is very hard when you sit down (for example, the sofas in the windows).  Maybe it's a European thing?  I also am puzzled by the sheer hugeness of some of the pieces - standalone wardrobes, etc.  Who has room for this stuff in older buildings, especially apartments?  Perhaps people use these to supplement their tiny vintage closets?

I wish I could afford the lovely wood Mission-style pieces,  the sumptuous leather sofas, and any of the glass tables.  For now, I will try to satisfy my urges with smaller accessories.

What a pleasant surprise this place turned out to be.  I had walked by a dozen times, but never went inside, assuming they were really pricey.
Then the desk I ordered from Office Depot literally fell apart, and I could not find anything that I liked anywhere that seemed well made.  Northern Home Furnishings just happened to be having a desk sale. I went inside and found two desks that I loved.  The salesman by the name of Michael helped me immediately.  In no time, I had a gorgeous well-made desk ready to be delivered in only a couple business days.
I was very satisfied with the price.  While higher than what I would have paid for Office Depot, it included FREE delivery and assembly at my house.  The guys who delivered it were prompt, polite, and out of here in no time.  Really, you do get what you pay for after all.  I am still fighting with Office Depot to get the crappy desk they sent out of here--they would not even provide a new box for me to pack it all up in (the orignal got ripped when I opened it)
I will shop here again and recommend to my friends. I am one very satisfied customer!!

very cool unique furniture, for less that what you'd expect.  There's an upstairs with beds.  A lot of their pieces convert into another piece of furniture, which is excellent for those of us living within certain smaller spaces!  Check it out!  Free delivery w/in areas of Chicago I believe...

This store sells home & office furniture. It's in a great location that I enjoy visiting. It's just down the street from the Davis Theatre. Their furniture is quality, it's just that it's on the pricey side.

I have purchased a bed, shelf, coffee table, night stand, and some drawers from here. I think they have great some compared to other stores. I like Helmut and Mike. They are friendly, helpful, and do no mind spending time with you. I will definately be considering this store for other furniture purchases.
They have very unique and modern pieces, if you like that kind of thing.
