Noooope.
Unfriendly front desk acted like it was a hassle to give me a day pass to try it out . Long paper form based operation still in the dark ages of just trying to hit monthly membership number goals rather than customer service centric. Dark and uninviting locker room, small workout areas that were crowded .
Pay the same , more, or less, and go elsewhere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Exploding Creeper R.San Francisco, CA02Aug 1, 2023
I don't recommend this gym due to the lack of gym equipment I'm trying to get a good workout but I'm just Looking around and they have more cardio equipment then gym equipment they have all this space upstairs to get acaully like decent leg equipment for godsakes this place doesn't have any kind of leg presses except one in the weight room witch is tiny and the benches are always occupied considering there's only 3 in there . I'm sorry but this is the worst gym I have ever been to the curly hair staff is rude and on top of that the locker room is tiny . I think I would like for this gym to be good is get more equipment because they have all this unused space taken up
Get more chest Exercise machines
More back ones
And more leg ones because all they have is 3Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Fel M.SoMa, San Francisco, CA01Apr 28, 2023

The gym is small. The locker room is dark and uninviting. The workout space has been rented out to a physical therapy group. I would love to join however fell like the au needs to take over the whole building and expand the adult workout area.

Cramped and tiny. Moved and was unable to cancel membership. I don't normally write reviews but don't join.

This one-star review is strictly for their DEEPLY ANNOYING sales tactics: I wanted to see how much their membership costs, but their website refuses to disclose this (unlike every other YMCA's website) and forces you to give them your phone number and email so that someone can contact you. As I feared, this resulted in annoying "push" emails and text messages at least once a week, which you have to manually opt out of.
Isn't the Y supposed to be a benign NON-PROFIT organization? If so, why does this location behave like any other sleazy, high-pressure national chain gym? Makes me wonder if they also do the national chain gym scam of deliberately continuing to charge your credit card or bank account for months after you've already taken all the required steps to quit.
STINKS. TO. HIGH. HEAVEN.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 27, 2019Previous reviewI come here once or twice a week because it's convenient to some shopping and personal errand locations, but my home Y is Cambridge. This one has the benefit of a large parking lot (parking in Cambridge is scarce and bloody expensive), nice spacious wooden lockers reminiscent of LA Fitness, nice new equipment, big spacious main workout/cardio area that's been recently renovated and seems more oriented towards personal training and functional-fitness type classes. I love that there's a separate locker room for kids, and the free wi-fi not only requires no password but doesn't drop out and runs at a decent bandwidth.
Dislikes: The December 2019 renovation unfortunately has resulted in 90% of the free weight equipment getting jammed into the front workout area, which is way too small for it---thankfully I usually come early/mid-afternoon not during peak hours, but I pity those who try to lift there during peak hours! Also, judging from how almost-full the parking lot was at 3pm, I can imagine that around 5-7pm it must be a real pain to find a spot. The biggest weak spot to me is the lack of a dry sauna; they only have a steam room, which isn't bad but no substitute. Oh and if you're curious to find out how much membership costs here? Unlike every other Y's website, for some reason this Y's website requires you to provide an email and phone number to request that information---this suggests that you are likely to be subject to high pressure sales tactics, pretty shady especially for a non-profit.
Anyway, I like coming here once in a while, but if I were living nearby not sure if this would be my first choice. - James T.Winchester, MA2120Nov 23, 2018
I've been a member of (and cheerleader for) this branch for a LONG time, but feel compelled to point out some areas where it's gone sharply downhill recently.
The branch recently stopped offering towel service. That would be fine if people were in the habit of wiping down equipment--but they're not (and this is doubly true in the afternoon when local high school kids get out of school).
One a couple of occasions, I've quite literally found puddles of sweat on the equipment. Cleanliness was previously the greatest strength of this facility, now it's a weakness (and, in an age in which MRSA has become prevalent, this strikes me as being particularly shortsighted).
They've also shut down the main swimming pool to families and other non-lap swimming purposes. Neither I, nor my tween kids, have any interest in the zero entry pool (full of babies in swim diapers, and too shallow to actually swim in). Since that was the last remaining justification for our "family" membership...).
Reduced schedules are another issue. Over the summer, I showed up at 6:00 pm on a Saturday evening, and was astounded to find the gym had already closed (and, apparently, that's true every Saturday and Sunday).
Crowds are yet another issue. It's not at all rare for me to find every elliptical, weight bench, or stretching mat occupied. Weekend classes are sparse--and being that weekends are the the only time many of us can sneak away to work out, popular group classes are jammed to the gills.
At this point, the branch is turning into a fairly expensive gym option for me. I know I'm supporting some good works when I choose the Y, but am increasingly inclined to support those services with a small annual donation instead of a large monthly one.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Handa L.Lexington, MA291Sep 21, 2018
Worst billing & membership department ever! It took me four visits to cancel the membership. They directed me to different YMCA locations saying "you have to go to the branch you applied for membership to cancel."
Then, I am still being charged for five month after the cancellation. The payment was charged on a previous credit card on file, which makes it hard to find out.
They are now saying no cancellation form was received, and asking me to provide the cancellation application which I signed five months ago.
Oh, not even mentioning the rude machine-like person on the phone who can only repeat "Your membership will not be cancelled until you come in person to sign cancellation application."Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
