my brother told me to try this place. it's a little hole in the wall, but the food is very tasty. the crusted mahi mahi with a green salad and rice is very good. the prices are average and portions are ok. overall i would recommend this place to locals and tourist.
i forgot to add the most important thing! they sell ted's bakery pies there! and it's about $4 cheaper than longs, times, or star market or any of them for that matter! if you can't make it to the north shore get it at N.S. grinds.
we love the chocolate haupia pie, but today we had to get it from star market. next time N.S. grinds!
In my never-ending quest to expand my reviews on yelp, I decided to try a new place. So I went to North Shore Grinds.
If I hadn't been to Samira's Country Market before, I probably would have never bothered to eat here. I never would have thought to find such great hole-in-the-wall type spots next to one another in Palolo Valley.
Now I don't really understand why its called North Shore Grinds. I can only assume the family is from the North Shore or that they think food on the North Shore is a lot better. I don't know. That said, they serve a lot of run-of-the-mill plate lunch like hamburger steak to garlic ahi. They do have a bit fancier fare like fish with cilantro pesto or cajun chicken with fresh salsa
Today, I went with one of the specials which was Braised chicken. It came with two scoops of rice and mac salad. The chicken was really good, except a little cold. Basically it was like chicken with a beef stew-like sauce. The sauce was nice and rich and had lots of flavor. The portion was nice too, three big chicken thighs. The mac salad was okay, but too much mayo for me.
Altogether, my plate was $6.50. All in all, it was a great deal.
Phenomenal restaurant, great prices. My favorites are the Herb Crusted Mahi-Mahi and Garlic Calamari. They also have every other plate lunch you could want, from Katsu to Hamburger Steak, in addition to Teri Burgers and Sandwiches. They also have combo plates if you wanna mix it up. Nice people working there too. Full plates run from $6-8 dollars, large portions.
Definitely a nice hole in the wall that is a must visit!

Every time we go to Oahu, we make a stop at North Shore Grinds. It's a bit out of way from the heart of Waikiki (and tourists), but that's why we like it.
North Shore grinds offers up some great plate lunch, but my favorite is the Kalua pork. The portions are quite large, and the quality and taste of food is far superior to anything else I've had.
Definitely worth the drive out!
another great hole in the wall, local spot that we found. it has nearby residential and away from all the touristy areas, so it can be tough to find, but worth checking out.
