I got the General Tso's tofu lunch special with miso soup and I became an instant fan! Tofu was super crispy and absorbed the sauce well. Miso soup was a bit different tasting, but it had lots of seaweed and tofu and (my favorite) scallions!
The place is a bit small, but thats expected in dc. Food was fast and filling and it carried vegan/vegetarian options for my fellow coworkers. Twas great. -

Horrible customer service!
Horrible delivery person!
Horrible food!
I never have used http://Seamless.com for this particular venue for a lunch option but was craving Sushi. Long story short, the delivery person called my work # and literally told me "'YOU COME DOWNSTAIRS AND MEET ME RIGHT NOW" - I replied with "I'll see you on the ___th floor" - he said "NO, YOU MEET ME DOWNSTAIRS RIGHT NOW." I told him "no sir, I'll meet you on my floor as requested."
I waited for 20 minutes in my lobby and he shows up looking PISSED OFF. I smiled at him and said "Sir, does your venue not meet your customers on their floor and/or suite." He ignores me, hands me my food and walks away. He returns and points at the receipt and says "is this your phone number?" (the same number he called me 25 minutes ago) - I replied "yes" while smiling.
I called the venue and was told that the Manager was not in but I went ahead and asked for their cell phone number. I decided to call and she answered. I told her the entire story but kept apologizing that the delivery service is new and would call me back once she returned to the North Sea Asian Fusion and Sushi Bar.
Guess what? SHE NEVER CALLED ME BACK!
The sushi was horrible and the soup was cold. I will never order from them again! -
Review from Lexie D.
Good things:
--Sushi packed a punch of flavor. Yay flavor!
--The crab rangoons, for $6.35 an order, are a steal. You receive 8 piping-hot jumbo rangoons filled with crabby goodness.
--Delivery was fast, and was running around my apartment building to accommodate everybody's orders in a timely fashion. That's dedication, man.
--Online ordering! Three cheers for not needing to speak to a single person before receiving food!
Weird things:
--what is with the plastic grass dividing my sushi? Do you realize what plastic nestled with raw fish smells like? It's completely unappetizing.
--I received a neon-pink sauce, duck sauce, and mustard with my rangoons. None of the three options tasted good with crab, mayo, and fried dough. They didn't NEED sauce, but it was odd.
--Rolls were not as tightly wrapped as I like 'em, and a bit smallish, but were by no means the worst.Listed in: Bring Me Food

Beer delivered to your door step.
That is really the reason to order from North Sea. The food is okay: crab rangoons are good, dumplings are weird, the thai food does not hold up with delivery, and you weren't really expecting decent sushi from here anyway. The wait is always way longer than it should be - a 5 minute drive takes an hour and a half to deliver, and if your order gets messed up its another hour to correct it.
But beer delivered to your door stop makes up for a lot... -

The lo mein is amazing. Sometimes I wonder how it's so different from other restaurants. Also, try the chicken noodle soup! http://www.foodler.com...

Meh.
Delivery took an hour twenty. That's a really long time to wait.
One entrée ran me $15 (including tip). That's a lot of money for lunch.
They have the option of brown, fried, or white rice and getting your sauce on the side. That's nice.
The TVP General Tso's wasn't *nearly* as good as I've had elsewhere (Sunflower still holds the crown). It had a chewy, almost stale-like breading. But the broccoli was nicely cooked: still green and crunchy. And the sauce was really flavorful and *very* spicy. That I liked.
Maybe I'll order sushi next time I have two hours to kill for lunch. That'd be cool. To have two hours for lunch, not North Sea's sushi. -

North Sea is my go-to place for Chinese take-out in AdMo. I usually get (and highly recommend) the mango chicken. The three-star review is based on two less-than-stellar experiences: in one order of steamed veggies and chicken, the broccoli wasn't fresh and tasted kind of grody, and in another order of mango chicken with "vegetarian meat" (I'm a budding vegetarian), the vegetarian meat did not taste good. Of course, that could just be because it was vegetarian meat... whatever that means... and not North Sea's fault. Next time I might just ask for tofu chunks instead of that nasty stuff.
Despite those two experiences, I will still continue to order from North Sea because it's the best Chinese food I've found in the neighborhood! We've never had delivery but pick-up is always quick. -
Review from Maxwell G.
Washington, DC
The average reviews here are correct. The restaurant is a very middling Chinese food and sushi joint. The food was not the best or worst we've had, the sushi was mediocre (though we did have salmon + mango rolls which we haven't seen before) and the service was not fantastic, despite us being the only customers at the time. Prices were relatively cheap but it seems we got what we paid for. Probably won't return.

Review from AccioSoyMilk ..

Come on, seriously? For 10+ dollars for a chicken teriyaki meal, I'd expect there to be at least soup and salad included. It's pretty rare when neither is included in a teriyaki dish. The chicken teriyaki itself was okay, with three pieces of uncut chicken. Again, for the price I'd think the chicken would be CUT and not whole. It was also a crappy job--chicken cooked first with sauce tossed on after.
Was also disappointed in the veggies--it was done kabob style on sticks. Um, why not save the trouble and just have them in the dish? Strange arrangement. The brown rice was also nothing special, easily tasted like something you could cook at home. Most definitely not worth a special trip. Also can't justify the price without a soup or salad included. -

Food poisoning. From the General Tso's chicken. I will never, ever eat here again.

Review from Bailey M.
I'm noticing a trend here. My last few reviews have only come to fruition because I've been bedridden in a food coma and/or impregnated with a food baby and my only option to be physical is to type.
That's happening again. Thanks North Sea. I had read these reviews over and over but could never bring myself to actually order from here because Chinese food, in general, has a track record of making me queasy and I am almost to that point of being vegan where I'm paranoid to order anything that may touch animal products in any way because I've become THAT sensitive and had some bad experiences. I'd never say this out loud. I already hear the sighing and feel the judging.
I must have read about the TVP version of General Tso's chicken one too many times because I finally caved. Oh.Em.Gee. There's gotta be MSG in this stuff because it is so good and I can feel a craving developing. I need to find someone to either a) talk me out of ordering it again when the craving hits next time or b) share it with me. So dangerous. So fried. So good. Never had anything like this before (I had to Google what General Tso's is before ordering) but I trusted my fellow yelpers! I can only imagine how amazing this would taste whilst hungover... -

The best thing about this place is the fortunes in the fortune cookie. Mine was "If we are all worms, try to be a glow worm."
Maybe I'm being harsh, but I think my take out experience with North Sea Restaurant can be easily summed up by the following quotes from dinner:
1. Me: "It doesn't look like the shrimp was deveined."
My boyfriend: "Yeah, I know. I can taste the feces."
2. "Look at that. I just bit the general tso's chicken in half and it's all breading, no chicken."
3. "Hey, try the walnuts on top of the shrimp. They're delicious."
4. "My rice is still crunchy. It wasn't cooked through all the way."
So I lied. The best part of eating here was the condiments on the dish. It's gross. Never doing that again.
+1 star for being exactly on time. -

Absolute worst service in the entire world. Food is shitty too.
Their online service failed and when they didn't get our order and it was going to be two hours late, refused to give us so much as a free soda, and were incredibly rude about it as well.
Will never, ever order again. -

This place is great for fresh, quick delivery. The salad is really great- very fresh and delicious dressing. The sushi is consistently good. I had the Pad Thai, and wasn't all that thrilled. But, considering how good everything else has been, I'm still a fan.

I can't even count how many times I've ordered from North Sea in the past two years. They've never messed up my order, the food is super cheap (especially the lunch and dinner specials), and if you need it they deliver alcohol and cigarettes. They've delivered to me in both pouring down rain and Snowmageddon and never complained. As an added benefit, you can order online.
The only downside is they recently started enforcing the $12 delivery minimum, meaning I can't just order the $5 lunch special anymore. But I understand why they enforce it, so they still get 5 stars from me! -

Do not order Thai from here. It is awful. I had red curry chicken and pai thai. The red curry was 1/2 tofu, which was just interesting and not all that offensive to me, but might bother others. The bad part was that it had absolutely no Thai curry taste; truly, hardly any taste at all. The sauce was watery, it was just....steamed chicken in pink water. The pai tai was also completely tasteless. I poured the sauce for our dumplings over it in an attempt to make it edible.
HOWEVER, I did not order Chinese entrees, and other reviewers seem to love those. I did get the dumplings and both the filing and the sauce were delicious, I would order those again in a heartbeat (the outside was a tiny bit rubbery but forgivable). I will order again for the tea, dumplings, and service with a smile. Also ordering on 24 hour eating was very easy.
We also had sushi, it was fine. The fish tasted neither super fresh nor bad, it was perhaps what you would expect from whole foods sushi. The sticky rice was good, maybe better than whole foods.
The homemade iced tea is pretty delicious, it is sweetened.
Anyway, if you are going to get food from here, definitely forgo any idea of any Thai dish and stick to Chinese, and sushi if you are not super picky about sushi and just enjoy it, it's good. No restaurant can do too many things well. -

I love North Sea for probably the wrong reasons.
Yes, the food is exactly what you're looking for in Chinese takeout. The food is great, and the delivery is free. Last time I went, I ordered the General Tso's. I know, it's not really Chinese food, but it's amazing, and I love it. The meat was delicious, crispy, spicy, and the portions are large enough that you should really be able to get three servings out of one order. But, that's really aside the point.
I love North Sea because it is unintentionally hilarious. When should you order North Sea? When you're sad and lonely, because North Sea has all the provisions. Greasy Chinese food, check. Pints of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, check. Bottles of wine for carryout, check. All you need is a well worn copy of Love Actually, and you're set for a night of weeping and self-pity. Also known as my usual Friday night. Just joking. Kind of. -

I have never actually set foot in North Sea but we order delivery from them about once a week. I was bit hesitant the first time since I am usually not into Asian fusion restaurants that do a bunch of everything: Thai, Chinese, Japanese. However, the delivery was quick and food was good.
I have only tried their sushi but it it fabulous for the price and the fish is super fresh. I would definitely recommend the Fish Lovers Combo which includes 8 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi and 2 rolls for $26 and is enough food two people that aren't huge eaters (my boyfriend has a big appetite so we usually order an extra role). The sushi usually includes salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellow tail, eel, octopus and halibut and they don't give you California rolls, crab stick or egg which are always disappointing in a combo. The 2479 Special Roll is very yummy and the miso soup is decent. The only thing that I have not liked is the seaweed salad which was weird and kind of frozen.
A friend of mine order Chinese food which she also enjoyed. I will probably try it at some point in the future.
They also delivery alcohol, including sake, and you can order online which is a major plus after a long day. -

I wish I had of read Elise's review before I ordered. I agree - the Thai was not the best. I ordered delivery while working a lonely night on call in the hospital. My food could easily be one star, but because hunger warps your senses, I am giving it a slight boost. I want to be as fair as possible so full disclosure here - I really had my heart set on pizza for dinner. After placing orders online at two different restaurants that said they delivered to my area, only to be called back and told they don't (Merf?), I had to give up on a veggie topped organically whole crusted dream and switch my cuisine. As we all know, this is not usually a good idea when your heart is set on something else. But physiologic needs being what they were, I decided to try Thai and looked up places close by and stumbled into the North Sea. For appetizer, I had calamari - possibly the worst I've ever had. Normally I wouldn't order meat, but hunger was twisting my mind into carnivorous thoughts (i'm not a vegetarian FYI, just dabble PRN). Anyway so wasn't worth it, mostly fry, no seasoning, couldn't finish. Then the main course - drunken noodles. I've never had one that disappoints. This one did :( The noodles were basically mush at the bottom of the container. On top of that was a thick layer of onions which I had to remove b/c I despise those weeds.
On the plus side, I will say that the noodles were nice and spicy the way I like and the delivery driver was very nice. I can imagine myself liking the food in a different setting (dine in, wine out) with perhaps a better presentation.
My fortune cookie said "there is no reference for beauty." Not sure if I agree for humans, but definitely not for restaurants. Beauty and presentation can make or break a meal. I think they need to start finding that reference. -

North Sea looks like a carryout where you can buy loosies.
However, the sushi is the bomb dot com. The BBQ Eel roll tastes uber fresh, and of course, their spicy crunchy tuna roll is filled with #win.
I dig their appetizer menu too... the Crab Rangoon is the truth, but the corn and shrimp stuffed wonton.. ..now that's a winner!
Also, try their Pineapple Fried Rice w/ Chicken or Beer. A meal for $10.
They deliver Beer and Wine too. They probably even deliver blunts. I'll ask next time.
Anyways, anyone who hates on this place has a heart filled with #loss. -

Their Taiwanese rendition of Thai Green Curry is overly salty with no curry taste. The basil spice-salt completely overpowers the dish. I am not going to completely dismiss North Sea because I ordered THAI curry from a Chinese restaurant (What was I thinking?!).
I will try again and order their Chinese menu items to really decide. For now, I definitely don't recommend their Thai food. -

what could be better than getting good, solid asian food AND booze delivered right to your door??
In addition, their sushi is tasty and cheap.
This place is wonderful, I love the people working here - if you are a repeat customer they remember you.
good ingredients (the broccoli and chicken don't look like every other chinese food hole in the wall). -

I've never actually been to North Sea but we've gotten food delivered from them about three or four times now and it's always been delicious. We're pretty far from them, in Bloomingdale off 1st, but they've never taken over around an hour to get here and the food has always been hot. The dumplings are scrumptious and the Thai basil chicken is my favorite dish so far.
Vegetarian boyfriend gets the tofu, and even a meat freak such as myself can appreciate it.
Not to mention, their menu is HUGE. Something for everyone! -

I ordered takeout from here because I had a Groupon to use up for http://allmenus.com and this was one of the few Asian/Thai restaurants near me that didn't have crazy huge delivery charges. I ordered Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Malaysian Mee Goreng and Fresh Mango Chicken and was disappointed with everything. All of the food was really greasy and gloppy - I think this is the worst quality food I've ever had. In retrospect, I wish I had paid the $10 charge for food that I wouldn't throw away after waiting an hour for, the delivery guy insisting that I didn't live where I claim to and barely touching!

I ordered the crunchy tuna roll, cucumber avocado roll, and a miso soup from here for delivery. I was very underwhelmed by the food quality. The avocado and cucumber tasted unripe. The fish was also clearly not fresh, and the miso soup was abnormally salty. It was not horrendous, but the food was incredibly mediocre. I will not be ordering from them again.

Washington, DC
Ridiculously tiny interior (seven or eight tables total), but rather snazzy looking. Dark, sleek decor. Great, friendly service to boot.
The appetizers cost about 3/4 of the entrees (depending on what you order). I had the "dim sum" (shrimp dumplings) and the ma po tofu.
The "dim sum" was definitely good. As in it tasted as if it were made in house. Whether it really is or not, I don't know, and can't tell, but no dumpling escaped my chopsticks.
The ma po tofu is some of the better ma po I've had in DC. Peppery, I just wish it were a bit hotter.
In sum, get your ass there. Or have their asses come to you via delivery. -

I ordered delivery for vegetarian soup (not a meat-eater). Delivery took an hour. Started eating the soup and encountered some seriously disgusting-looking beef. I called back and they said they'd send a new order... An hour later, when I called again, they said the driver was "about to leave." Stay away.

Ordered take-out from North Sea for the first time tonight. Was expecting generic asian-styled take out but was surprised at the quality and taste. I got the combination Mee Goreng and its flavors were spot on while my boyfriend got the lemon-grass chicken which was tender and juicy. Delivery was prompt, took about ~20 mins after I placed the order.
Haven't tried their sushi yet so definitely ordering again for that! -

Washington, DC
This place isn't bad. The food is reasonably priced, especially for the area, but its def not a destination you go out too. Which is odd because it is right in the heart of Adams Morgan so its a prime location, but the inside is really small and has the feel of a convenient store with the wall of cigarettes for sale in the back.
My advice, this place is great for delivery but if your looking for a fun place to go out too, then next door at Saki maybe a better bet. -

This Chinese delivery is DELICIOUS! I don't get all of these negative reviews. The crispy sesame chicken is perfection: not too much sauce, but lots of flavor. The chicken fried rice is great. The eggrolls are phenomenal! They put soy sauce and duck sauce and some mustard in the delivery bag without us asking. Delivery was within 30 minutes and it was free through GrubHub. The portions are generous. What more do you want?!?!

Disclaimer: first yelp review :)
I go to adams morgan to eat pretty often and whenever I passed this place I would remind myself to check it out someday. Well, the time finally came last night when my mother & sister were in town and I wanted to show them Adams Morgan, but my sister is a picky eater so knowing she liked Asian food, I decided on North Sea.
I was instantly pleased with the friendliness of the staff. Several people came to our table to make sure we had everything we needed and when I asked our server what she thought of the hong kong sauce she smiled & said it was her favorite. I had the chow fun hong kong (not exactly the name, but something along those lines.) and it was really tasty. The sauce was slightly sweet and not too overpowering, and the chicken was tender. Everything came out really hot and tasted very fresh. I thought I would be returning home with leftovers, but I cleaned plate. We also ordered dumplings, which were good, but not as good as the noodle entrees.
I will definitely be returning back to North Sea, everything was reasonably priced, the service was awesome and I just got a really good vibe from the place all in all. -

This is my neighborhood Chinese take out, and I can't say enough good things about it. There are at least two other places within walking distance of my place, but North Sea beats them out in terms of taste and choice.
I've been going to North Sea since moving to Adams Morgan four years ago. The place always had a decent menu, and the food tasted great at a decent price. Then, the owner decided to change the decor and aim for a more asian-fusion motiff. This added a multitude of different Thai and Japanese options (including sushi) to an already extensive menu. I've tried practically everything there, and the food is good at the price.
Another plus is that this place never closes for ANYTHING. The last two snow storms that knocked out the DC area didn't even faze this place as, when I walked in to order, they were fielding delivery calls on the order of one per 5 seconds. That tenacity and work ethic definitely adds to my loving this place. -

The quality at the old restaurant was much better. We went last night. Got a sushi platter as an appetizer, it was pretty good. I got the Pai Tai entree.... the rice noodles were actually a bit al dente. I don't think that concept works too well with rice noodles, nor do I think it was intentional! It was barely seasoned at all. But.... i was actually in the mood for something really simple and not too seasoned, so it ended up meeting my needs by accident.
My buddy's dish... well, we looked at the online menu after we got home and can't figure out what he ordered. All we know was that they cooked it with ketchup and it was AWFUL. They even took it off our bill after they saw it uneaten.
I'll give this place one more try, but the last thing we need in Adams MOrgan is another crappy restaurant. This place is well on its way. -
Review from Hannah C.
This place isn't what it used to be... thank heaven.
It used to be a carry out Chinese place with decent food and not so great decor. The place had a major makeover and is actually nice to walk in now. As I waited for my take-out, I took some of my first Yelp photos to document the changes. The food is still good, and they have catering. I watched the sushi chef fill up big trays for someone's football party. They also deliver.Listed in: Gettin' My Asian Yummy On

*Review on their delivery only.
3.5 stars.
I order from them all the time during the school year and always get the sushi. The great thing about this place is that there are 8 pieces/roll! The freshness of the sushi is hit or miss, but most of the time a 'hit.' I've had some of their other fusion dishes, appetizers, desserts (Bali Tofu, $6.35, Angel Hair Singapore Noodles, $9, Curry Laska, $9.80, Lychee Fruit, $3.95) and they're really not worth getting. The dishes were bland and the lychee was just canned lychee. If you're ordering, the best thing to order is sushi, which is reasonably priced and most of the time, tasty, especially since you get 8 pieces!
Salmon Avocado, $4.75
Spicy Crunchy Yellow Tail/Tuna/Salmon/Shrimp, $6.55
Salmon Roll, $4.95
-All a great deal! Most of the time, it's surprisingly fresh and tasty!
My go-to place for sushi delivery! -

I am glad to see this place getting positive reviews. I took someone here once and they said it wasn't authentic enough. As we entered he yelled out some random mash up of vowels and consonants that he claimed was japanese but no one responded. Perhaps he doesn't know what he's talking about ...
Anywho, I regularly enjoy their sushi. The fish is always fresh and the vegetarian sushi is really good and very satisfying. I finally tried the fusion dishes last night for the first time and I cannot say enough good things about the thai fried calamari. I ordered it for delivery last night and it was super tasty. Nice and lightly fried, crispy and a very generous helping. I will be ordering this again, and by regularly I mean every Sunday night. -

Wanna hear how I waisted $20?
I've ordered from this place at least 3 times and only had 1 good experience.
My daughter and I prefer home-cooked food. It was long a long day at work, so we ordered carry-out. ANYTIME my daughter orders carry-out, she orders a "plain lo mein" and get noodles and vegetables. I ordered Singapore noodles. JUST Singapore noodles. What did we get? The lo mein was ONLY noodles. That's it. Not 1 ounce of anything else, but oil. We called to let them know and instead of allowing me to finish, the person on the other end continuously cut me off while I was speaking as she gives me every excuse.
I was working too hard to even open my dish, so I waited until I got home. At 12:30 AM, I am hungry as shat. I get a plate, bust open those noodles, and I see shrimp, beef, pork, all sorts of stuff. ALL I ASKED FOR WAS SINGAPORE NOODLES. The only reason people frequent this place is because of their veggie options. The last thing a person who doesn't eat meat wants to see on their plate is meat.
It's after 1 am, I'm hungry, frustrated, and I feel like I just got robbed of $20. I'm not gonna get that $20 back, but they're $20 richer at my expense. FOCK!! -

So far I've had two dining experiences here, once for dinner and the other for lunch. Both have been better than expected.
I am quite particular about Chinese food and this place hits the spot given the price and convenience.
The shrimp dumpling noodle soup was tasty - good quality noodles and shrimp dumplings. The general tsaos chicken was made with fresh ingredients, not day-old chicken.Listed in: The Places I Go Out
