Tonight I ordered North End based on the reccomendation from a friend.  I ordered a pepperoni, spinich and mushroom with extra sauce and well done.  Extra sauce and well done is my little secret that I use to combat the usually horrible pizza experiences of Los Angeles.  Much to my surprise North End did follow instructions.  I thought the pizza was good.  It was a touch expensive...and I especially hate when pizza places charge $1.50 for a can of soda.  Delivery time was average and the guy was smart enough to get through my front gate (most are usually not).

I wouldnt rave about this place, but if I eat in secrecy again and feel like "mixin" it up, I might give them a thought.

The key to any pizza is the dough and that was a disaster here. No matter what you put on it is merely a sham. The pizza looked like one that was made by a horrible student at a culinary school.
Not going back here again.

NAME: North End Pizzeria

TYPE OF CUISINE: Assembly line Italian

ADDRESS: 8514 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90048

PHONE: 310-358-9400

WEBSITE: None, surprisingly enough: they have three of these joints in town.

RESERVATIONS: Nah

GENERAL LOCATION: In the mall on the southwest corner of 3rd and La Cieniga

HOURS: M-Th 11 am-10 pm; F 11 am-3 am; St noon-3 am; Sn noon-10 pm

DELIVERY SERVICE: Yep, free delivery on a minimum $15 order

BANQUET FACILITIES: Nah

CATERING: Yep!

TAKEOUT: Yep!

NOISE FACTOR: Very loud and clattery during lunchtime: tile floors, hard walls and ceilings, large glass windows. If you can't stand that, this place isn't for you.

VEGGIE FACTOR: This is no place for vegans at all, and iffy for lacto-veg people: almost every single thing on the menu contains some combination of meat and/or cheese.

AMBIANCE/ATMOSPHERE: It's fairly new, and it's a pleasant enough place. Soft restful colors. About 14 tables each about a yard square, covered with red tablecloths topped by glass. It's sort of "faux assembly Italian," which matches the food. Each table has a set of five condiment shakers: salt & pepper; garlic salt, parmesan cheese and red pepper: a nice touch!

FOOD: I can't speak to the whole menu. I had a slice of pepperoni/mushroom pizza (a really large generous slice) and a diet Coke. The slice came to my table hot, fresh and crisp. Even at that crowded hour, the wait time was reasonable. The pizza was reasonably tasty, certainly not gourmet. I found it a bit salty, but that's me: I hardly use salt on anything, so I can taste it when there's the least bit of it present. The diet Coke was the diet Coke. There seems to be one (large) size, take it or leave it.

FOOD PRESENTATION: It's a combination: self-serve on the soft drinks, straws, napkins and silverware (units of clean silverware -- as opposed to cheap crappy plastic sporks) -- wrapped in paper napkins: another nice touch. You get all that yourself, but they bring you the food.

DRINKS: A self-serve dispenser of the usual soft drinks (including ice dispenser), plus tea.

SERVICE: There's no menu up anywhere, but scads of take-home menus. So you grab one and decide what you want. Then you stand in line to place your order at the counter and pay in advance. If you want a drink they give you a paper cup, and it's at that point that they give you a numbered plaque which you place on your table, and that's how they find you with your order.

PRICE RANGE: Very reasonable. You can have a good lunch for $5. For between $8 and $10 you can have one of their Daily Lunch Specials, which consists of an entree, a drink, and a salad.

PAYMENT: Cash, CC

PARKING SITUATION: Not great! The parking lot is small and tight (get your mind out of the gutter!): you have to do a lot of maneuvering, and there's a parking attendant who helps guide you in and out of your slot, assuming you can even find one. I recommend you consider, for an extra buck, parking in the Beverly Connection lot and walking over.

Thumbs down.

I don't vouch for people who rep Boston pizza or athletics.

We ordered from this place the 2nd time - total dissapointment.

Wings had NO drummettes?!? AND there was a hair in my salad. Pizza was alright.

Maybe just a fluke, but i'm not sure I'll be eathing here again any time soon.

Disclaimer: I come straight from Boston's North End. That being said....the place is cute, small, but like an pizza place in Boston. I had the veggie pizza, which was delicious. The pizza wasn't greasy--at all--which was a plus, because that's hard to find, east coast or otherwise. There were peppers, onions (which I love), black olives (which I may have had an affair with), and FRESH tomatoes. Delicious.

The service was decent--much like any pizzeria, but the staff wasn't so Italian, which was a little sad. Don't get me wrong--they were very friendly--but I couldn't help but long for Express staffers while I was there.

Also, their sauce (Jeff had a calzone) was a little sugary for me.

But, on the positive side, I did notice their red pepper shakers had slots instead of circle openings, which I highly appreciate, because you can finally get enough out of those things to enjoy it right.

If you're from the East Coast, you should definitely give this a shot. (as well as Casa Bianca)

Some good pizza! I go here for lunch. The specials used to be a lot cheaper but it's still not bad for the area.

I usually get the 2 slice special (mushroom!) It comes with a salad and a drink for about $8. I think its the thin crust and cheese that makes it so good. Nothing like NY pizza but good for LA.

Great local pizza delivery! They also have a small dining room for eating in. Their pizza is thin crust and very good, their meatballs are great and so is their eggplant parm. I don't love their pastas but you can't go wrong with the pizza or the sandwiches! If you like thin crust you will love North End! I love their sauce so I always get an extra side to dip!

Tips: It can can take 45-60 minutes for delivery, and it's bad parking for picking up.

I'm not sure why this place only averages 3.5. I think their pizza is one of the best I've tried and I've tried many many pizzas. They have great toppings and they are very generous with the amount. Never dined there but their delivery is reliable (around 45 minutes). I've basically tried every vegetarian thing they have on their menu (except salads) and loved everything (especially the eggplant parm sandwich). As a fan of any baked dough with melted cheese combination, this place is more than satisfactory.

Stopped in the other day to get a couple of slices for a late night hungover snack.  First of all, there was nothing Italian, New York, Boston, etc about the people running it.  Which isn't automatically a downfall but they were really not the friendliest bunch.
Also didn't help that as I was waiting to pay a customer came up to complain about his chicken sandwich that had about 3 small strips of chicken in it.  The owner didn't handle the situation with finesse.
The actual pizza was good, but one of the greasiest slices I've had in awhile.  I was so excited to eat it though that as I started to devour it, the grease started dripping on my couch.  So sad.
In conclusion, I would give this place 3 1/2 stars if I could.  Just be forewarned that the customer service leaves something to be desired and that you'll need a roll of paper towels to soak up the grease.  And one slice is $2.50...it should be a jumbo slice in my book for that much money.

North End serves a damn good pizza.  It ain't Abbot's but it's tasty nonetheless.  Delivery isn't as fast as Domino's but their pizza is much better so I'll cut them some slack on that count.  I've eaten in a few times, but the ambience leaves a little to be desired.  The West LA location is better for dining in.  Oh, parking on 3rd sucks.

The pizza is terrific! The waiters are all friendly. I've been there two times, and I'll go back definitely. The only thing I hate is that their water tasted awful, like unboiled water. And I got stomach hurt after drinking. Next time, I'll order the bottle drink. But trust me, their thin pizza is so yummy!

The pizza here is good and they have a nice house salad.  The dressing is tasty and if you add chicken it comes hot off the grill.  The 3rd street location has weird hours and they don't deliver sometimes but if you're looking for a good slice of pizza and can't get to Village on Larchmont this is not a bad bet.

i would've given 3 stars but i gave an extra for the very reasonable prices and their super late hours (i think 3a on weekends).  i thought the pizza was fine, the plain pizza was actually the best, but none of it was spectacular.  now, i'm a New Yorker and am therefore picky about my pizza, but i hated the fact that my veggie pizza had raw veggies on it, rather than baked into the cheese.

i'd certainly eat here again because i did enjoy it, but i wouldn't go out of my way for it.  there's better pizza to be found.

The greasiest pizza in town, and not all that good tasting. I've found flies trapped in my parmesan cheese shaker. Pastas and sandwiches are just ok.

Never going here again.  We called in our order for pick-up because they charge extra for delivery.  We ordered a sandwich and a calzone.  They said it would be ready in thirty minutes.  Not the case.  We got there after 35 minutes, and had to wait another 30 minutes.  When I got there, the manager was yelling at someone on the phone, and using large amounts of profanity.  Not a good thing in my book.  I paid for the order, and the manager went to the kitchen to ask how much longer.  The cook in the kitchen started cursing as well, very loudly.  There were two other customers waiting in front of me, as well as a table of three that was also waiting for their food.  While I was waiting, someone called on the phone and wanted to place an order for delivery. The manager told them they could not place an order because they were too busy.  WTF?  They obviously don't care about customers,  or providing great customer service, or making the food in a timely and efficient manner.  After all the wait, the calzone was even cold.  Like I said in the beginning, never, EVER, going back.
