I love this bank. Friendly employees that actually remember me and oddly seem to enjoy helping-good luck getting that from Chase or TCF, pet-friendly-and actively involved with PAWS, efficient, they have cookies, coffee, and last week, an old time popcorn cart, they are conveniently located around the neighborhoods I am in most often, and they provide good, solid financial advice.
i really don't like this bank. i thought about opening an account here when i first moved to the city. one, it would have been convenient since i live right behind it. but the first time i tried to go in there and get a roll of quarter to start my 7 loads of laundry, they refused because i didn't have an account with them. hmmm, since when do you need an account to exchange a ten dollar bill for a roll of quarters? so i curse at this ban and all of it employees!!!!! and will never set foot in there again!
This bank is terrible. I was a client from 2000 until about 6 months ago. Awful. My biggest complaint is their on-line banking system. As a grad student I didn't make a lot of money. i tried to balance my checkbook to the best of my ability, but would occasionally bounce a check when I got mixed up. My complaint was they wouldn't notify me any way except snail mail. (Why not email me? Why not call?)All the while, they were charging me an additional 6 dollars a day. So, in addition to paying a 34.00 nsf fee, I had to pay more! Yikes. When I left the bank I left a couple of dollars in the account. I renewed an old on-line subscription that I didn't realize was linked to my old bank and got dinged for 34.00. Why wouldn't the card not go through if there wasn't enough money to cover it? Simple, the bank cares about making money, so they got the nsf feel. Terrible. I bank at Chase now and I will never bank at a 'Mom and Pop' bank again. The one star is for the bank's affiliation with P.A.W.S.
I just recently closed my account with NCB but am writing a review anyway because of the great service I received when I went in to do so. I opened the account a few years ago but kept open my Bank One account because I was told at NCB that they held onto checks for them to be cleared and when I get paid, I need the money that day, not in a few days. I started to use this account as my main account because I couldn't stand Bank One (I do like Chase much better though now). There was this branch near my home and another branch near my office and I never saw that my checks I deposited were ever held so I kept using this account. I ended up going back to Chase because I left that job near a NCB branch and there aren't too many of their ATMs in the downtown area. After some errors on my part and racking up some bank fees from NCB, I went in to finally close my account and spoke with Antonio Chaparro who is an Asst. Branch Manager and he was very helpful in getting the charges reversed on my account and didn't make me feel bad for what had happened and wished me luck in the future. This location is their main branch so it's a little larger than some others. NCB is pet friendly as many people know and there is always water and treats for your dog which you can bring into the branch. They usually have treats for adults too.
