My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend to get away for a night and just disconnect. I can't rave about it enough! Sandy, the innkeeper, was incredibly friendly and hospitable and the room we stayed in (Sea Urchin) was fabulous. It had an exposed wood beam ceiling, a comfy queen sized bed, a full kitchen and (the best part!) a wood burning fireplace with a duraflame log already set up inside. There were wine, chocolates and bottled waters in the room and everything was perfect. We spent about three hours that night reading by the fire and I couldn't have asked for a better getaway. Next time though, we decided we would pay the additional $25 for the larger room with the ocean view.

There's no cell phone service but I loved that. You don't come to the Mendocino Coast to gab on your phone...you come to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Not having service removed the temptation to "work" on vacation.

Spectacular views, blissfully low tech and quiet, spacious and comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. The innkeeper, Sandy, is a gracious and affable host.

The Gallery room is pet friendly and the swing outside says dry even when it's pouring rain! The Southwind is the room to get for the best view and a deep tub.

This was my third stay at the North Coast Country Inn and all I can say is that I just love it. I have had the pleasure to stay in 3 out of the 6 rooms available and each one of them has been beautifully decorated. One of then even seems to be haunted! There are also 2 rooms that accommodate travelers with pets. And the beds are so cozy you will not want to get up ;-)

On my next trip to Gualala I will definitely stay at the North Coast Country Inn again.

Thank you Sandy for a wonderful time!

DH planned a nice romantic get-a-way.  A friend of his recommended NCCI and we were not disappointed.  We stayed one evening in the Southwind Room overlooking the ocean and clear blue sky.    It is located on the East side of Hwy 1 but it was quite and very homey.

The bed was so comfortable but my only complaint is a sitting shower. The tub is a jacuzzi though.

Phil and Sandy took over the property less than a year ago and are the nicest couple and very accommodating.  I left two dresses hanging in the closet and I received it in the mail two days after our stay.

Breakfast was filling with fresh cut fruit salad, egg squares, crosspoint, and apple sausage.

The busy season is coming up but if you can ask for the Southwind rooms for the better view.  I wished we could have stayed a second night because the grounds are very peaceful and secluded.

I've stayed in a lot of bed an breakfasts (most of them in England!) and this was my very favorite. It was just lovely. My only regret is that we didn't come earlier our first day; being on the grounds themselves is a pleasure in itself.

We stayed in the spacious Gallery room, which includes a fireplace and a small kitchen. It has a porch with a porch swing, and visiting hummingbirds. The bed was firm, but had a soft enough top that it was still comfortable for those of us who don't like firm beds. Although it had a lot of windows (the doors are french doors and there are two skylights), it still felt very private. I think one of the nicest things about the room and grounds in general is that I can imagine enjoying being there even if the weather was bad, which is such a big advantage over the Surf Motel or other nearby options.

Sandy was gracious and kind, and the breakfast was filling and tasty (and vegetarian for me!). I went out to get something from my car and a car had just pulled up and was thinking about staying there, and I considered it my kind act of the day to tell them to stay there--not for Sandy's sake, but for theirs!

Two words of warning: 1. No WiFi and no AT&T iPhone reception. In the end, this was actually one of the best parts of our trip (the only place you can get reception is near the Point Arena Lighthouse), and I wouldn't want it changed. 2. Gualala goes to bed EARLY. The only place open past 8pm is Bones Roadhouse and two other places. Eat on your way in!

Without a doubt, we will be back. You should go! You won't regret it.

We spent two nights here last weekend, for our 20th anniversary.  Phil and Sandy are so sweet, and very gracious and helpful.  We felt like we were visiting friends for the weekend!  They took the time to sit and chat with us, let us see some of the other rooms and basically made us feel like we were guests in their home.

The Gallery Room was spacious, clean and we loved the little deck to relax on.  The gas fireplace made for two cozy evenings.  Reggie the dog was so friendly and we enjoyed visiting with him on our deck.  :)

Both breakfasts were delicious...with an egg dish, pastries and fruit, plus coffee and juices.

We had a wonderful time here and plan to go back again.  Highly recommended!!  Thank you Phil and Sandy for your hospitality!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at NCCI... The room was perfect, and so were the breakfasts. Best of all, though, were the owners, Phil and Sandy. They made us feel totally at home, and we enjoyed our conversations and the tips they gave us on where to eat and what to see.

We stayed in what's probably their best room, the Southwind... It was high enough so that we could see the ocean between stands of trees across the street. The barking sea lions (invisible but constant) added to the ambiance of the place.

We'd definitely return, next time we visit. Maybe by then they'll have WiFi :-)

This is the place to go! a very charming, comfy, rustic getaway just north of Gualala and right across from one of the nicest stretch of beach in California. Very spacious main room with fireplace, kitchenette, dining table, writing table, four posted bed, and tons of quaint and interesting antiques and such. We also had a deck, which was great for the dog and for reading.

The ownership is very cordial and accommodating. The breakfasts were very good, especially the crustless quiches. My only complaint was that the baked goods were not fresh, but hey you cannot have everything I suppose!

The only real drawback was that our room faced the highway. Though there is not a lot of traffic, there is enough to remind you that you are not completely off the beaten path.

All that said, I still would recommend it heartily!

The best bed & breakfast I've ever been to, and they seem to do it effortlessly. The house dog, Reggie, greeted me as I opened my car door. Our room was enormous and perfectly decorated. The food was great and the hospitality better than you'll find anywhere. Phil was away and Sandy did an excellent job overseeing everything one man down. After a few days, she felt less like our host and more like a friend.

In addition to everything mentioned above, the grounds are huge. You can stroll up a few levels and you're on a big stretch of grass seemingly away from everything. I sat and read a large chunk of my book in about half the time it would normally take. And in eyes view was the house hot tub.

    Perfect.

The BF and I drove up to Gualala during a weekend road trip.  We spent one night here in the Sea Urchin room.  They usually don't offer only one night on the weekend, but they were able to accomodate us.

The room was quite spacious with a Queen bed, two chairs, table, desk, fireplace with duraflame logs, and a kitchenette.  There is no television, but there are numerous books and games to entertain you.  (There was a Scrabble game but  no dictionary.)  The fridge is stocked with a few bottles of water and juice.  The hosts also leave a little bottle of wine.

Breakfast was fantastic.  Green chilie quesadilla with avocado and salsa, chicken apple sausage, fresh fruit, gorilla bread - like monkey bread but stuffed with a cream cheese filling.  Even the BF enjoyed breafast.  I may have to write the inn keeper for the recipe for the quesadilla.  Breakfast is served buffet style and it was worth getting out of bed for.

The only thing missing was a water view.  With the Whale Watch Inn just a cross the street, I was envious of their view.  But, I can't imagine that their breakfast was as good as ours.

We really enjoyed our stay at this inn.   We had almost given up trying to find a pet-friendly inn in this area (although they do have some rooms that are not for pets if someone has allergies).   We had stayed before at the Stanford Inn but did not want to return there (nice location, but owner and staff unfriendly and unprofessional).  We had also stayed at the Little River Inn which had a nice location, great views and friendly staff, but the beds were absolutely horrible (even after we tried flipping them over).   So we tried to find someplace nicer and we found the North Coast Country Inn.   The rooms are lovely with fireplaces and kitchenettes.   It was quiet and comfortable and the innkeeper, Sandy, was wonderful.   Breakfast was fine and the grounds are very attractive.
We would certainly stay there again.

We hauled in the day after our wedding - 6 hours behind schedule and at the end of our nerves. Phil and Sandy were welcoming and accommodating, even calling into town to make sure we got some dinner somewhere. They had a nice card and a bottle of wine ready for us. We stayed in the dog-friendly Gallery room, where our Iggy enjoyed hanging out with their dog Reggie. Breakfasts were wonderful, especially after seeing the galley that they're cooked in. There's a hot tub that peeks straight up through a small redwood grove and a wonderful meadow to stargaze from. The warmth and comfort more than make up for the lack of view. We'll be back!

phil and sandy were the most gracious hosts i've ever experienced. the hubs and i came here just a few days after we found out we were expecting so i feel a little nostalgic writing about this place.

the grounds - the setting is serene.  though not situated right on the beach, you're surrounded by trees.

the dog - the house dog, reggie, got along with everyone and was totally at ease around our dog too.

the food - we tried a few restaurants in the gualala area and sandy's cooking was by far the best of any.  homey and delicious.

the decor - none of that crappy frilly lace and crystal decor you often get at b&b's.  this furniture is totally comfy and the rooms are cozy with hard wood floors and fireplaces.

i cannot say enough about this spot.  a true, true gem!!

The North Coast Country Inn located in the heart of  Gualala is a fabulous retreat to get away for the weekend! Sandy and Phil are the most gracious and kind people you could meet. Each morning there would be a full complete breakfast that was well thought out and we wished dinner was avaiable because Sandy is an excellent cook!!

Our room had a view of the ocean and we could hear the sea lions in the morning and the hot tub is under the rewood trees!!

Reggie there lab is a sweetie and likes to show you your room!!

I highly recommend th NCI for a quick getaway for the weekdend. WH

Sandy, Phil, and Reg were wonderful hosts.  The sounds of the surf and seal lions were wonderful.  The sounds of the highway were unfortunate and I wished that we were across the highway on the beach side of Hwy 1.  The Inn Keepers think of nearly everything and make a wonderful breakfast.  They only thing I would have liked is easier access to a phone to make reservations for things such as dinner or a massage, since cell service was non-accessible, and maybe robes.  The bed was ultra comfy and I slept wonderfully.  I thoroughly enjoyed or weekend there.

absolutely fantastic place to catch up on your r & r. a cute homey country inn.  sandy was an awesome host.  very accommodating.  she gave us tips and advice around the area and made sure we made ourselves at home.  she served a wonderful and filling brekky (quiche, pecan/cinnamon rolls, yogurt, plus more!)  we stayed in the gallery room which was clean, roomy, had a fireplace, sitting area, nice bathroom, and small kitchen with a toaster, microwave, and fridge.  only possible negative thing would be the squeaky bed but overall an excellent room.  the private patio was nice too.  you could barely see the ocean but it was nice to have the trees and plants surround us for privacy and to block the sea wind.  the property is beautiful and well maintained.  including a hot tub up in the hill to help you relax. we will definitely be back.

It was nice to return to North Coast Country Inn where we stay when visiting fiends in the Gualala area.  We've stayed in the room "Evergreen" twice before, this time we stayed in "Sea Urchin".  Both are  spacious and bright.  This past visit we had so much socializing going on, I regretted not being able to stay in our room and read, tucked into the canopy bed as it rained outside.

The north coast country inn was a perfect place for a relaxing escape from the craziness of day to day work.  The Southwind room was amazing!  It had huge windows peering out at the redwoods and the ocean, a nice tub, and a super comfortable bed among other things.  I miss it already...

If you pass through the Northern California coast, stay here! This is one of the most pleasant B&Bs around...Our room had a beautiful view (through two huge front windows overlooking the California coast ), the landscape of the inn was dotted with towering redwoods, and our room was both spacious and cozy at the same time. Each room has a private little deck area on the outside, and comes with local wine and a toasty gas fireplace on the inside. There is also a mini fridge, a massive bathtub with spa jets, board games, books & magazines, and a sprawling bed. There's even a quaint gazebo and recreational area behind the inn that would make a perfect wedding locale. The owner/host, Sandy, was absolutely welcoming and helpful in giving insight into the local restaurants and businesses. Plus she's a great cook--the breakfasts were beautiful and filling, and each morning had a different meal. A home away from home, the North Coast Country Inn offers a getaway retreat definitely worth experiencing firsthand!
