The food was good(except the tomato soup was too sour), our waitress was friendly and very attentative, but the customers in the restaurant absolutely pissed me off!
When we first arrive at the front open entrance we were informed to pick up a tray then pick whatever food we wanted to eat and if there was a section we did not like we can just skip/cut the person in front of us. Seems kind of rude if you ask me, but ok? We eventually skipped couple people in front of us but some woman tapped on my shoulder saying "Excuse me, you just cut me in line." Uhh yeah? And? You were taking too long deciding whether you wanted the tomato soup or mushroom soup! I almost really wanted to yell at her and tell her to get the fcuk out of my face! Other than that everything else was fine. Also they gave us this chocolate mint after our lunch which great!
This is a typical cafe with soups, salads, and sandwiches. Nothing special, but nothing lacking either. However, I went there at an unfortunate time. With the heat wave, there was a hefty line of people wanting air conditioning, and most of the items were sold out when I arrived during peak dinner hours.
I had the Chinese Chicken Caesar Salad, which is fancier than a Jack-in-the-Box salad of a similar name. A crustini (bread with melted cheese) was given, but only after a party member noticed that this was supposed to be included in the meal. I can attribute the service received today with the heavy influx of people trying to find some air conditioned eateries.
This isn't quite a full restaurant size, but then again it is meant to be quick food while shopping at Nordstrom or the mall in general.
Located on the third floor of Nordstrom, it is a great option for quality cafe-style food with a calmer, more intimate atmosphere. Unlike some other restaurants in the mall, it has its own space and a more intimate feel than having mall traffic constantly pass you while you eat. The prices are decent and the service is always friendly.
You come in, get a tray, point at what you'd like to order, and then pay the cashier at the end of the line. You get your drinks and pick a table. A server comes over, grabs your receipt and then brings out your food. I'd recommend bringing a few dollars of cash so you can leave a small tip on the table before you go (there's no opportunity to tip when you paid earlier).
My favorite is the grilled cheese on sourdough with tomato basil soup. (yes -- this combo is on the kid's menu, but I'm not ashamed!) YUM! Their margherita and mushroom pizzas are really good as well as their grilled paitanis.
Usually, I have a pretty good experience here....today was quite different, enough to complain.
I ordered a sandwich and the bacon was nearly raw, they exchanged it, but it was no different. This isnt so bad...if they did something to make it better.
The outcome was the waitress sat there and actually argued with me, to the point I had to tell her that I didn't go to Nordstoms be argued with.
The tomato basil soup alone is worth the visit. If you enjoy overpriced, mediocre sandwiches and salads, you should also make sure and stop by.
Tomato basil soup aside, I do wish that the place would make up its mind. You're either a restaurant or a cafeteria. Difficult to be both. I vote for cafeteria with a bucket of those chocolate sticks on each table.
WOW!!!
Nordstrom has raised the bar. The new cafe in Bellevue is fantastic! Everything you order is made freshly right before your eyes. The service is fantastic. The selection is impressive.
The service at the cafe, just like the store, is second to none. While the restaurant is set up like a cafeteria, everything is brought to your table and served to you.
I had a pizza with fresh veggies, and some wonderful iced tea. All the old favorites remain on the menu, including the pear salad. Wonderful!
Overall: Great find - good food, clean with a pleasant atmosphere
Wow, so there IS somewhere that I can ENJOY eating at in Bellevue Square! I was sick of the usual crappy junk food s**t they serve in and around Bellevue Square, so Marketplace Cafe is a refreshing change.
I was a little dubious walking in and seeing "take a tray" - eww a cafeteria??? Anyhow, you take your tray and look at the dishes on display, when you've chosen what you want - you ask them to make it. They make it in front of you and the food ranges from soups, paninis, sandwiches, pasta, risotto, pizza, salmon, oven roasted vegetables, at least 5 different salads, cakes and dessert including creme brulee and muffins, cookies etc with lunches ranging from $8-12.00.
You pay, sit down and promptly someone comes over to take your tray. I ordered the chicken and artichoke salad without dressing ($9.25) - it was very good. Ok, it wasn't a gourmet dish - but it was just a good salad. Simple and good ingredients, good flavors that married well together and made a healthy dish. After you've finished, your plate is promptly cleared and you are given a chocolate mint and a card.
Some people would call this place over priced, but I like the atmosphere and the simple not-over-complicated food. There's no riff-raff and it's exceptionally pleasant. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food is good and well prepared (although nothing exceptionally fancy, which is what I like). I'd definitely be visiting again!
I came here the day before the grand opening by accident. The whole menu was 50% off just for that day, so I was very pleased.
There is a great deal of variety at this yummy lunch spot, from soups to delicious salads, pizzas, pastas, paninis, and variety of roasted veggies. Overall, I was very impressed with the food and the impeccable service.
On this day, I tried the Sweet Pepper Soup--it was more like a spicy dip for the free toasted cheese bread they give you. It was a little salty and too spicy for a soup, but made a fabulous dip!
I also had the Pear-Walnut-Blue Cheese Salad...I loved it!! It was refreshing but a little over-dressed (next time I go, I will ask them for a light drizzle). The salads are tossed on the spot, and the pastas are made by the order.
On average each lunch item will probably cost you from $8-12. A little on the pricey side, but very satisfying--for taste and for the heath conscious!
this place is not as insanely crowded as the downtown location during lunch time. they are very tolerant and helpful with mothers with strollers here so that's a big plus for moms.
i always go for the same thing 'coz it's delicious! the salmon nicoise salad is yummy! i thought the salmon would be overdone since they're all precooked but i've had this salad at least half a dozen times and it's always made well - even when they're made in a hurry :) the dressing is a vinegarette kind of dressing so if you don't like tangy dressings, you might not want this dish or ask for a different dressing on the side.
can't say i've had anything else here :) so not much of a review :) can't say i care about trying anything else either since i don't come here often and i know i'm thinking of my salmon nicoise if i'm heading here :D
even though it's self service, they do clear your trays and dishes promptly and the mint chocolate is a nice touch to the end of the meal.
Although Nordstrom Cafe does not have the largest variety of food to pick from. You should still be able to find something that sounds appetizing whether it's a sandwich, panini, pizza, salad, and I believe they have soup as well. The pricing at Nordstrom Cafe is not exactly cheap but it still is very affordable for a quick bite to eat when you're shopping at Nordstrom without having to ever leave the store which is kind of nice.
The food quality has always been very good as well, and out of the 3-4 times i've eaten here i've always gotten consistently good service. Nothing about this place truly stands out as amazing, but nothing has given me a bad vibe about the joint either. I especially like their pizzas which makes a great mid-shopping snacking when shared with someone. Definitely worth a stop if you need a snack break while shopping in Bellevue Square/Nordstrom.

For a cafe in the middle of a department store, Nordstrom has a pretty good thing going here. Not like I spend all my time visiting the various Nordstrom locations in the Puget Sound, but upon reflection, I think I've been to just about every Cafe Nordstrom there is. The food is surprisingly good, especially the salads, and the service is always extremely prompt and friendly- even when these places are packed to the gills. When the Belle Square Nordstrom revamped their cafe, my assumption was that it would be for the better, cuz that's how Nordstrom usually rolls. Unfortunately, while the new Cafe is more "attractive", the cafeteria style service is bafflingly inefficient. Case in point: Some friends and I decide to eat here the other day. As we start our journey through the cafeteria line, a very nice employee informs us that if we're looking to order something farther down the line, salads, entrees, etc, that we can just "go around" the other customers who are waiting for sandwiches and soups. Cool. Awesome. Except that the minute we go move out of our place in line, we are immediately shot down by some other shoppers who thinking we're "cutting". Okay. We go back to our place and wait 15 minutes to move 10 feet. We finally get to the frickin' salad station and we order our food. My salad, unbeknownst to me, is one that has to be brought out to the table. Sure. Okay. The salad chef, again, kindly informs us that we can just "go around" the other shoppers if we're ready to pay. Again, there is no way to actually do this without muscling our way around the same grumpy matrons from before. We finally pay and get to our table, where my starving friends (bless their hearts) try to be polite and eat really slowly while I wait 15 minutes for my food to arrive. Grrr. The salad, once I got it, was good. The employees were all very friendly. But seriously, if it aint broke, don't fix it.
