I'm not such a big fan of their clothing departments. I've had trouble getting help from a sales associate, and I find their clothing seems geared to either the under-18 crowd (BP) or the over-40 crowd; there's not much for those of us in between.
There shoe department, however, is amazing, especially if you require special sizes. I recently stopped in to try to find a pair of shoes to wear with an evening gown. I started trying on some beautiful shoes in a size 6---which is what I thought I wore in U.S. sizes (note: Americans, why is your sizing different in *everything*??). I wanted to cry because nothing fit right!
The sales associate suggested she measure my feet, and it turns out I wear a size 4.5! I was able to purchase 2 gorgeous shoes in my 'new' size, and each pair was relatively affordable, too! Yay, Nordstrom, for helping petite foreigners feel sexy, too! Also, the sales associate was still so polite to me, even though she had to be thinking "how does this girl not know her own shoe size??"
Definitely 5 stars for customer service and selection in the shoe and lingerie departments here. I have stupidly tiny feet, so it's always such a process to satisfy my shoe cravings. Nordstrom actually carries beautiful shoes in 5's and even 4.5's!!, including their own line, Linea Paolo. They also have a great selection of high end shoes like Jimmy Choos, slightly less painfully priced but still pretty and comfy Cole Haans, as well as more midrange shoes. Plus, they have a lot of great sales. The salespeople in the shoe department are always so helpful without being overbearing and are never condescending, even if you walk in in flip flops to try on L.A.M.B. platforms. If you like a pair of shoes but they don't have them in your size, a salesperson will be happy to order them and either have them shipped to you (for free) or you can return to the store to pick them up.
I've heard great things about the lingerie department and how their bra fitters are experts, so I had to come experience it. The bra fitting went a little differently than what I'm used to. The fitter has you take your top off in the dressing room, then you're instructed to cup and lift so she can measure under the bust. Lift high, ladies, or you'll be gently reprimanded. Once she has your band size down, she'll estimate with lingerie ninja accuracy your cup size and bring you a bra to try on to make sure she's got it down. Then, you can either have her help you find things to try on or you can go out and browse yourself. I'd purchased a couple of bras, and when one of them turned out to have a creaky underwire (yeah who knows) after wearing it for a day, I was able to go back with my receipt and return it even though I no longer had the tags. Great service!
When I go to Nordstrom, I usually stop to browse their relatively well stocked fragrance department. They have harder to find lines like Creed, Annick Goutal, the reformulated and resurrected old school Givenchy, and Estee Lauder Private Collection. I'm not such a fan of the sales staff in the fragrance department. They tend to be snootier than the rest of the sales staff and will hover and want to tell me about the latest releases when I'd rather be left alone to spray and sniff at my own leisure. Strangely, when I did have questions about fragrance notes, even for the brand new releases, the salespeople had to resort to reading off of marketing cheat sheets. If the fragrance salespeople showed greater expertise to counter their snobbery, and they increased the number of niche fragrance lines they carry, this Nordstrom would get five stars.
I purchased some "blingy" earrings about a year ago. I went to put on my bling and they werent so blingy anymore!
I happened to be at Pentagon City with my sister so we strolled into Nordstrom - I wanted to see if they would let me bring in my old bling for the same bling for FREE.
Guess what?
The nice sales lady said, "Yes, of course - no receipt needed. Just bring them in"
I returned them YESTERDAY and I am sooooo happy!
Thanks Nordstrom for the great service.
I've had over-the-top great service twice in their "special occasions" section. Generally a good selection.
I'm not a huge fan of the layout of this Nordstrom... it all seems a little disjointed to me. Still, this is one of my favorite department stores in the area.
My first love was (obviously) the shoe department. Nordstrom's is known for their incredible shoes, and for good reason. Lots of brands you won't see elsewhere and a great spread in terms of prices. Also, fantastic sales and great service.
While I feel like this location isn't as well stocked as I'd like, it's still a great place to browse. The staff in makeup and lingerie are always very helpful and I'm rarely unable to find what I'm looking for. Yay for Nordie's!
This used to be my go-to place for high-end jeans that made my butt look awesome and could be hemmed to my petite frame for free. But now I go to Nordstrom for its amazing sales, cosmetics department, and are-you-for-real return policy. I normally can't afford to shop here, but the sales really are spectacular, with customer service to match. I once found a pair of Frye boots (last one) for $150, but they turned out to be different sizes. I had no problem returning them and the sales associate bent over backwards searching for them at another store (and they wound up being even cheaper, to boot --- whoops, pun not intended), shipped free to my door.
As for the cosmetic counters, some of the ladies are a little weird with their Friday makeover parties, but they are extremely friendly and helpful, even when they're swamped. For all the other cheapskates out there... it never hurts to ask about a free gift-with-purchase, because even if there isn't one going on that very day, you might get something, anyway.
So, I've never really been a Nordstrom fan. I always thought it was for the wealthier, snobbier folks. I would typically walk through, balk at the prices for 3/4 of the store, and on rare occasion buy something. Granted, it is more expensive than other good department stores and they hardly have sales, but I think I'm now a *secret* (shhh...) fan of Nordstrom.
Maybe it's that I've matured, grown up, can afford more of what they sell... or maybe it's just the great help they provide. The customer service is outstanding and really treat you like a worthy customer.
From now on, when I walk into a Nordstrom, I may have a different attitude about the store.
I normally don't deign to step into this palace--I am usually scrabbling at the poor girl's version (the Rack) down in Woodbridge. But frick it, it was my birthday last week. And instead of using my birthday cash on something sensible like bills or tuition, I opted to use 5 percent on a frivolous gift I would never buy myself with my own money, just like Grandma always said.
A few weeks ago, I tried the best glittery lipgloss for girls over 30 on the planet--YSL's Goldengloss--belonging to a make-up artist who was working with me at Bellacara. I wanted that. I went to Nordstrom.
I parked illegally in the pull-up circle and was on lunch-break, so I was in a rush. They didn't have the color I wanted, so the girl ran me through what they had in stock and I liked two of them. When I said "I'll take both," her eyes lit up and she went for the kill. Two lipglosses, one highlighter, one brow pencil, one mascara and one hundred and fifty dollars later, I was trotting out of there with a gorgeous kisser and a wee bit of guilt ("man, what could I have gotten at the Rack for $150?").
She even threw in a freebie make-up bag with samples (including two of the things I just bought) so I that made me feel special. I really liked the saleswoman--she was great at her job and knowledgeable about her line.
I put on my blinders as I had to go through the handbags and shoe sections--I wanted to save the rest of my ducks for responsible spending. I only peeked once. Safe mode.
I like the Nordstrom Cafe layout, and specialty drinks. And this is where I look for shirts. I am always able to find my size 16-33 with the help of great salespeople. Their customer service is exeptional, and returns are always excepted.
It's a pricey place, and I don't go there often. I don't know of any other places that carry french cuff shirts.
Customer service here is just as superb as other nordstrom locales.
I was hesitant to come here for the anniversary sale since I'm not a huge fan of all the dirty tourists milling about the mall. Gratefully, the middle school field trips and similar stay on the food court level for the most part.
I had excellent service in the shoe department... they will order a pair for you and have it shipped free of charge if they don't have the item in stock.
In another department, I had a manager (?) take down my contact info to let me know when they will be getting in more colors of a jean style I love.
Honestly the customer service at nordstrom is better than any other store I've gone to. Somehow they strike just the right balance of helpful without being pushy.
Also, check out the nordstrom brand items for quality, trendy pieces at a reasonable price.
This review mostly pertains to the Make-Up department of the store - particularly the Bobbi Brown make-up section.
I needed to replenish my supply of Bobbi Brown black ink gel eyeliner. I had originally bought it at the Sephora in Paris but the Sephora in the US didn't carry it. Enter, Nordstrom!
I was almost immediately approached as I got to the makeup department and started looking for the eyeliner. I only wanted to buy the one thing and I had no one pressure me into any of the other products which I appreciated. The saleswoman was really friendly and offered to sign me and a guest up for a free make-up makeover/consultation when the Bobbi Brown rep from NYC was going to be in town. Sweet!!
So this past weekend, my roomie and I showed up for our 12:30 appts and had a great time. My makeup artist was Darin and he did a great job teaching me about some of the products and how to use them. I did end up buying some of them but again, there was no pressure to do so. I even bought lipstick...which is a HUUGE step for me and my chapstick/lipgloss look that I still love. I was going for a more polished/professional look that Darin helped me achieve.
On a side note, the NYC rep was REALLLLY HOT. He chose the lipstick color and blush and applied both to my face and I was really excited about that. If he wasn't gay, I'd totally have jumped him. Incredible eye candy...I was sort of in love with him at that moment.
I am newly in love with Bobbi Brown make-up and their salestaff at Nordstrom. Incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Highly recommended if you need some make-up advice!
The best customer service ever. I love that after finding out the devastating news that I needed new bras that I didn't have to run around the store looking for new bras in that size. They brought me 20 selections in my new size to the dressing room.
I also didn't have to run around to find a pink shoe. I just told the associate what I wanted and he brought out various selections in my size.
Last. They altered my dress in 36 hours and I made my flight.
I just wish this location had a better selection of clothing.
Nordstrom is the greatest department store in the world.
BUT, you need to check and double check that the store clerks have removed the security tag from your clothing. They must skip this part of the training, because it's happened to me 3 freakin' times since August. I know -- my bad for not taking my own checking and double checking advice, but I'm warning you to be smarter than I am.
I'm getting married in three months, and i'm in search of a tuxedo to buy. I walked into Nordstroms this past weekend and was helped with some of the finest customer service I've encountered in ages. David helped me to the tux section, and while he wrongly guessed my size, he deftly found my size and helped me with various combinations. I wasnt quite ready to pull the trigger on such an expensive item, but he took the time to print me off the details from the tuxedo, making it easier for me when I return to throw down the plastic and buy the tux of a lifetime!
Great selection in Salon and BP shoe departments.
Not so great in Savvy and t.b.d , you're better off ordering online and in-store returns/exchanges are so easy.
I usually do a full frontal attack in July because ...
I love love love their Anniversary Sale!
Their anniversary sale is awesome -- and I appreciate the fact that they pay special attention to customer service and making their customers feel special.
This is the ONLY department store I'll shop in. For some reason all the others just pale in comparison, and I hate their set up. Nordstrom, OTOH, is so cool. I LOVE the customer service--have never had a marginal experience--it's always just right.
Went to buy my husband dress shirts for Christmas, got a lot of help, got some nice stuff.
You should so be shopping here!
I absolutely love this Nordstrom. If you need anything in cosmetics you must see Laverne at the Clinique counter. She will help you with any brand, track it down for you, have it bagged and ready - really, come on!!! I have three small kids and I have been known to call her with a list of items I need (Clinique or not) and she has it ready at a prearranged time and I pull up to the door and she hops out. How fabulous is that!!!
Don't forget their amazing customer service and return policy.
But that is for THIS location only. Don't ask me about the Nordstrom at Tyson's Corner - specifically the Bobbi Brown counter and the store manager - or I will get on a soapbox.
Another thing I love about this location - shoes on one floor, not all three like at Tyson's Corner.
The petite focus section is tee-niny but they have a great ship to your door service.
Love it! Love it!
I keep coming back for more shoes and accessories!
Especially with two of my favorite sales person that always glad to assist me.
Very good! This place give me a shopping therapy I needed!
Hmm..I wonder..will I ever be cure from my shopping addiction?
i'm not really into department stores for the masses, but can you believe this is the only store with a shu uemura counter? not saks, not neiman...nordstrom in pentagon city.
i know, i was a bit surprised considering that, as malls go, pentagon city is pretty gross.
anyway, if you are a shu uemura cleansing oil junkie like i am, and you run out and can't wait two days for shipping, nordstrom in pentagon city will fix you up.
three stars because service blew.
I don't understand how you people survive such extreme weather here...20 degrees in the winter and 90 in the summer?! I apparently have no clothing suitable for either environment so I end up wandering through Nordie's quite a bit, but I digress. My first time shopping here was looking for a winter coat to wear to work. I found a beautiful black wool pea-coat on sale for under $100 and as I'm trying it on a saleswoman comes over to see if I need help. I make some comment about how I'm just making sure it's the right size and I'm not sure how it will feel over a suit. She whisks off to find me a couple of different tops to throw over the one I have on to make sure the coat is still comfortable. Once we settle on the appropriate size coat she rings me up and even throws in a bunch of extra hangers once she hears that I just moved here and all my clothes are strewn everywhere since my stuff is still in shipment.
The second time I shopped here I was looking for a pair of work shoes that I could walk 3 miles a day in and not feel like I was dying afterwards. My sister, who has a lot of back problems, recommended a brand that is only sold at Nordstrom. The saleswoman I had in this department was not all there that day. I told her the two pairs of shoes I wanted to try on, my size, and the color and she came back with the completely wrong stuff. Then she kept disappearing to try to get the right items but would get distracted on the way and forget and come back with nothing. They weren't even that busy so I'm not sure what was up but after 20 minutes I gave up.
So overall this Nordstrom is a bit schizophrenic...if you get bad service try leaving and coming back later and you might get someone different.
Shoes shoes shoes shoes shoes and did I mention shoes. One should buy their shoes from nowhere but Nordstroms. If only they could help me with where to put them after I buy them.
I love Nordstrom, they have a great selection of .. EVERYTHING! Their world famous customer service is excellent, especially Caprice in the lingerie department. I will only shop at Nordstrom.
Anniversary Sale. Need I say more?
I'm extremely happy with the service I received from a rep at Nordstrom's intimates department. I was looking for bras for petite women. She not only pointed me to the Wacoal petites selection, which has some pretty bras for us shorter girls, but to some bras outside petites that may work (CK). I later read that Wacoal a Japanese brand that tends to specialize in petite women. Yay.
This is a review of one thing, the show shining area in the men's shoe department at the Pentagon City Mall. It is only $2.50 for a shine, $3.50 for boots. These guys do a really good job for less than you'd get elsewhere. Some people bring them bags of shoes. They can do mens and womens shoes.
I'm not a mall guy. I'm not a department store guy. Why do I love Nordstrom? I have hardly a bad thing to say about their home-brand goods, so it's a great place to get utility items (socks, etc.) and they're not particularly expensive for the quality. I also find a great selection of "business gear" that I'm not afraid to step out in after work. It gets awful expensive when you let someone gather your gear for you, but I usually get really really good help, especially with business clothes. The two sales are good, but the year-end sale is better. The mid-year sale (June) is mostly the lesser brands.
Up to par with Macy's, a pleasurable experience. The clothing is divine, and the prices are appropriate - though not at all cheap. I really like their handbag selection!!
The bra fitting here is awesome.
