My favorite coffee shop!  This beautiful sunny clean friendly cafe is the best coffee cafe I have ever worked out of.   I can't put my finger on it.  This little coffee shop is just jam pack of positive energy.  This place really motivates me to work and I'm surrounded by extremely friendly staff.
The coffee is really good here. They even serve almond milk. Yum!  The menu choices are really healthy and fresh!  I love that they serve vegan desserts and have lots of vegetarian options.
Everything they serve here is very tasty.  I think I spend a good 8 hours before at this cafe and got a lot of work done.

Their happy hour is great too.  I can't think of any other place that has wine for $2.95 glass and their Hawaiian pita pizza for $5.95 is to die for!  Happy hour from 4-7pm.  Awesome treat after a productive day.

I stumbled upon Nook one evening when I couldn't be bothered to cook.  It was a surprisingly good find!  I appreciated the many options they had for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores.  I counted at least 6 different vegan and vegetarian options each -- which I thought impressive given that it's a small cafe.

I went back a second time with a friend for Happy Hour one Friday afternoon.  The happy hour was a good deal.  $6 personal pita pizza, $4 sangrias, $1.50 pbr, $3 glass of wine.  I personally didn't like the wine selection (they were too tart/acidic), but would highly recommend the sangria.  If you go with a group split a pitcher.  If I remember correctly, it's $14-$18..?

Place is my favorite cafe in Nob...So cozy, delicious & friendly.

Breakfast: oatmeal & their breakfast wrap. both great choices.
Lunch: organic mixed greens with beets add chicken. loved it.

They have an amazing/friendly staff. Sometimes it does take a little longer to get food out, but it's because it's all made fresh. so personally I don't mind waiting a little longer for a freshly made salad or sandwich. QUALITY.

They have a great selection of beverages. including wine & beer. I'm looking forward to grabbing my laptop, ordering a glass of red wine (even a homemade vegan chocolate chip cookie) & grabbing a seat next to the window to watch people walk by or ride the cable car down to embarcadero.

Cute little joint where we stopped for a little libation on our way to Lombard Street. A couple of outdoor tables was a nice place to sip some beers on a warm sunny day. Since we didn't sample any of the food or coffee I can't say how skilled they are in those departments, but I thought they could've been a bit more diligent about busing the tables. We had to carry in all the crap from our table inside.

As much as I would like to LOVE this place, this little nook is not the warmest.

Food is tasty, which is why they got the second star.

Customer service... SUCKS. The baristas need a good lesson in customer service.

Breakups are never easy, even if you're the one breaking up. It was hard for me to eat  and sleep for days. Nook was the first place I went to after the end of my most recent relationship for a drink and gossip session with my BFF. I'm glad we went during happy hour (5-7pm) because this could have been an expensive tab. Instead, it was just $2.95 for wine, $1.50 for PBR, and $4 for cocktails and sangria. Breakups have never been more affordable.

I come here a lot because it's right down the street from my place and I love it! Their food is fantastic, especially their sandwiches! I've had the cranberry, turkey, brie sandwich, as well as the mango avocado sandwiches and they are two of the best sandwiches I've had in my life---seriously!

It's a great place to go read or do work in the daytime, they have free wi-fi until early evening when it turns off and the place becomes more of an evening wine bar. The vibe changes and in the evening, it's a great place to catch up with a friend over a glass of wine!

I've never been to happy hour here but I heard it's good!

After an hour of trying to figure out where we were gonna eat, my friends and I decided on Nook because it seemed to have a good HH and a cute location/decor that was decently packed.  We were welcomed by a very helpful and cheerful cashier/server and I left the cashier feeling very hopeful and happy.

We got a pitcher of Sangria, the shrimp pita pizza, and vegetable lasagna (not on the HH menu I believe).  Disappointingly, the Sangria was very watered down and I noticed that even though it was Sangria Monday, no one else in the restaurant ordered one.  The pita pizza was decent but the vegetable lasagna left me unsatisfied.  I felt like they just piled loads of cheese to make up for the lack of any other flavor.  Also, WiFi ends at 5pm?  Made no sense to me.

I really wanted to like Nook but unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me.  If I do go again, maybe I'll just stick to wine and a pita pizza.

I have lived in the neighborhood for over a year and have to say that nook consistently stands up to my 4 star rating. Nook is located right next to the cable car track so you can sip your coffee while people watching. The staff is always friendly and were especially accommodating while I was on crutches.

Their happy hour is great- $3 glasses of wine, also try their bagel and lox (always fresh!) or their salads. They also started serving bottomless mimosas on the weekends!

My only gripe about this place is that there is no wifi after 6pm.

Nook is by far my fav neighborhood coffee spot! The cappuccino is awesome - just exactly what you need to wake up and enjoy a long day ahead of you! The staff is super friendly - it's an awesome feeling when you walk in and your cappuccino is already being made for ya! Food is great. My fav is just a simple everything bagel with cream cheese, tomato and avocado! Yumm! Stop by and you won't be disappointed!

This place seems to get a solid 4 stars from most everyone, but I'm going to give it 5 because, while I've only been here once, I don't have a negative thing to say!

I came for happy hour with a friend on a Thursday, there were several tables open and the noise level wasn't bad at all like you get with many places that offer happy hour specials. Generous glass of red wine for $3, personal pizza served on a tasty pita bread made fresh when you order it, what's not to love?

Service was friendly, the place is clean and cozy, and their cheap wine's not bad! Love me some Nook.

I've been here a few times for brunch. The food was good, but I found the service lacking. The girl behind the counter acted like I was bothering her every time I asked for something, even when I was just ordering my food. They even got something wrong and she argued with me saying I made it confusing. I was being super nice, too. This isn't always my experience here, but on some occasions, they really need to step it up a bit.

The location is good. Its on a nice little corner where you can sit and watch the trolley cars go by. There's seating outside if you come when it's nice out. I think I can recommend this place and blame the service issues on a few bad seeds.

This place needed an upgrade to another star!

We came here for happy hour on a weekday, and it was a mellow happy hour to catch up and people watch in Nob Hill.  It was a challenge to catch up inside, because the lap tops were out and we did not want to be distracting or plain annoying.

They have a couple small (and somewhat unstable) tables and chairs to sit out.  The happy hour menu with the cheap sangria and tasty bites (pizzas, cheese plates, hummus) are all fun to snack on.

I would come back again, and it was nice to see such an entertaining corner with the trolley cars and tourists taking pictures.

I've come here for drinks in the evening, and I've been here for brunch. I like the atmosphere in the evening. Dim lighting, local feel, great place to come for a work meeting. I tried the oatmeal with strawberries and bananas when I came here for brunch and it was SO good. They had a lot of great looking sandwich options as well which I'll have to try eventually. Prices are pretty reasonable-- my oatmeal was a little over $5, and sandwiches were about $7-9. I came around 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon expecting there to be no seats available, but surprisingly there were a few spots. I love this place and will probably come back often.

Nothing here Wow'd me (so far), and I'm not sure there's a reason to go out of your way to come to nook, but this place has solidly established itself as a neighborhood fixture. Comfortable place to come work or read a book, either for coffee and breakfast in the mornings, or cocktails and happy hour after work. Something about nook pulls together a huge density of cutesy and attractive couples, so maybe steer clear if you're the type of person who shuts the blinds and avoids going outside for the duration of Valentines Day.

Nook is the best place in the neighborhood to get stuff done. I provide three reasons why this is so.

    1) Patrons are not distracting. The flocks of sangria sipping, spandex wearing, sweatered dog walking yoga moms tend to speak with each other about topics that do not interest me. I stay focused when I am not eavesdropping.

    2) Their unique internet policy forces patrons to use the internet effectively. Unplugging the wifi at 6:30pm forces yelpers like myself to use time on the internet productively and time off the internet time doing real work, like drawing pictures of dinosaurs and reading Marquis de Sade.

    3) The staff are cheerful and joyous. They pleasantly serve me endless cans of $1.50 PBRs and then nourish my hangovers the following morning with strong coffee, oatmeal cookies and chicken pesto sandwiches. Each time I walk in I am greeted with smiles, hellos, howya doins, sunshine and rainbows. I'd smooch each of those M.F.ers on right on their beautiful freaking faces if I hadn't already experienced how problematic that can be.

Nook, you truly have nestled yourself into the cranny of my soul. Without you I am unproductive and lost. Give me nook or give me death!

Nook is a great place if you want a glass of wine in the evening along with a hummus and veggie plate or perhaps a tasty sandwich or salad. In the morning and afternoon they have wifi and outlets to plug in to get some work done. At around 6pm they turn off the wifi (which I appreciate) to make it a hang out spot rather than a dinner place for work-a-holics.

One of the aspects I like most is that it is located on a trolly track corner, which makes it an excellent spot for people watching. With both indoor and outside seating, this is a good place to hang out rain or shine.

    Delightful weekend brunch spot!

Had the smoked salmon (not so) small plate and some house coffee, both of which hit their respective spots.

The area is pretty incomparable in San Francisco for a Saturday morning stroll... Even when it's completely overcast (as it is wont to be in these parts), the tree-lined streets and quaint houses of Nob Hill are a treat. And Nook is a welcome pit-stop located at the corner of Hyde and Jackson with a charming European feel and the unmistakable sounds of the cable car in the background.

The crowd was fairly varied... tourists, locals, singles, families, and dog-walkers alike were all happily convened in the small venue -- and, although there's a sign on one of the larger tables that chides laptop-users, I did see someone in the corner with their Macbook, so I imagine it's not a big deal (I'd be way too distracted by pure enjoyment to concentrate, though, so I'm not sure how much you'll accomplish if you're coming to get work done).

Prices are your Bay average, but I did see a tempting sign for happy hour that might have me crawling up the hill one of these otherwise dreary weekdays. Regardless, I plan on going back -- sometime, someday -- but certainly soon!

This place is right near my laundromat, so on Sunday afternoons I can start my laundry, walk over here and grab lunch/brunch super easily, and head back to finish off the laundry. I think it was genius idea to locate the place two blocks from the laundromat, and now I can't help but wonder why more restaurants don't do it.

The tapenade sandwich here was great. The atmosphere is super chill, and the service was really friendly. It wasn't too busy. There's wifi, so you can do work and stuff. In short: I like it! Nice work, Nook.

I took a couple days off from work to show my younger cousin around town. And though I never venture into Nob Hill, a sweet online deal had me in the neighborhood for a mid-day mani/pedi. On the way to the spa we passed by Nook. Like most of my spontaneous culinary adventures, I was enticed to try the place based on a few quick glances of the already-served dishes.

Nails did, we came walked back to Nook. Along half the perimeter of the restaurant were about 7-10 laptops (and users). First thought: "So this is where the non-corporate minions hang out?"

I really need to take more weekdays off.

My cousin ordered the fresh mozzarella sandwich and I the chicken pesto. The bread was fresh, the sandwich contents amazing. Situated on a hill, a window seat at Nook offers a perfect view of the passing cable cars. To a tourist, nothing can be more perfect than sipping lattes from this spot.

In fact, it was very inspiring and poetic. And thus, this was born:

There once was a girl named Val
Who ventured into Nob Hill with a pal.
    We stumbled upon Nook,
    And were immediately hooked,
And left as two satisfied gals.

I love going to Nook. Whether its on a date, Sunday brunch, or a quick coffee before work, Nook always seems to be the perfect venue. Their cappuccinos are great if you need a pick-me-up in the morning. When I head there for brunch I normally order one of their delicious sandwiches and a bellini with a side of fruit. Definitely the perfect meal to discuss the prior week's events over. The staff is also always really friendly and provide great service.

    Dear Charlie Sheen,

Let me tell you what "winning" really means.

"Winning" is finding a parking spot IN NOB HILL at 6 PM on a Tuesday night ONE BLOCK from where I needed to be.

"Winning" is having an extra 10 minutes to spare before a meeting due to said parking spot being really super easy to find.

"Winning" is using those extra 10 minutes to Yelp a coffee shop and find Nook, a cute cozy place with really nice staff.

"Winning" is having a nice, big, piping hot, spicy Chai Tea Latte with soy milk.  For under $5.

"Winning" is being able to use their clean bathroom.

    TAKE THAT, CHARLIE SHEEN.

I've walked by this place so many times and it's one of my boyfriend's go-to places during the week. It took me so long to try the food here because I was a bit put off by the healthy vibe of soups and salads. Finally we stopped by for a quick bite before a weekend trip and I have to say, the place is pretty darn good.

We went half-sies on the turkey/brie/cranberry sauce and the chicken/hummus/tomato sandwiches. Both sandwiches were crisped up in the hot press and had a cut the roof of your mouth, but in a pleasant, worthwhile way, crunchiness. The creaminess of the brie and the hummus kept the sandwiches moist even though they didn't have any mayo. I definitely like the turkey sandwich better. We shared a slice of the vegan apple pie for dessert. I thought it was way over spiced and could barely taste the apple. Will try one of their cookies next time.

I like the neighborhood vibe of Nook and it's definitely a great option when you're looking for something quick and healthy. I recommend it!

Cute cafe tucked away the corner of Hyde and Jackson

    Pros:
    - Really nice ambiance, music not too loud, colorful, each table had a cute vase with a small flower.
    - Large tables
    - Plenty of outlets
    - Free wifi
    - Lots of windows, so lots of sunlight
    - Clean bathroom!
    - Good food! Customized the avacado, dijon sandwich by adding pesto and getting it on a whole wheat baguette. Very tasty! The sandwich was still slightly warm when I got it which helped the flavors blend and added a little crunch since the baguette was slightly toasted. The side salad complemented the sandwich well.
    - Friendly staff

    Cons:
    - Can be hard to find a table if you arrive during peak times. Most people were studying or there for the whole three hours I was there
    - A little pricey considering the portions are on the slightly smaller side.
    - Small sandwich and a coffee came out to 11.50 and I was pretty hungry again after 2 hours.

Overall, will definitely be paying Cafe Nook another visit! It's a great study spot and a cute place to spend a couple hours working or meeting up with friends!

To us this place was like a hidden gem that came out of no where. In actuality, it's in a good location on the trolley line on a great street but we didn't come out here expecting to find food but ended up hungry and so happy we stumbled on here.

The food was amazing - we had the hummus which was literally the BEST hummus we've ever had (no joke), their cream of broccoli soup (so much good flavor), their shrimp quesadilla (cheese melted perfectly and bread was toasted just right) served with a side of avocado and wife enjoyed the decaf late.

Overall - really nice surprise with amazing food. Highly recommend it.

Only partial negative is everyone loves their laptops here which limits the already small space.

One of the many reasons why I love Nob Hill / Russian Hill.
Nook is a very comfortable cafe with a lot to offer. Happy Hour here is the best with ~$3 house wines and great snacks with high quality ingredients.
Its a nice place to catch up with friends or even to roll up solo for a light meal, a quick glass of wine, and to catch up on your book of the moment.
Be courteous to others if you find your self planted in front of your laptop. Seating is super limited.

I originally mistook this place for a concept Barnes and Noble cafe featuring the Nook eReader, but to my pleasant surprise, it was an independent cafe that happens to have similar, bright branding. The place is a little too unfriendly to gadget users with the lack of plentiful outlets and active management of WiFi availability during peak hours.

That said, the coffee and espresso drinks are the best in the neighborhood. The food is decent. The happy hour specials are really what makes this place worth visiting with some friends. If you come alone, you probably are better off bringing what they call a "printed book" to keep you company.

Nook is a cute little cafe nestled into the corner of a quiet SF hillside neighborhood.  They offer your standard coffee & espresso fare, salads, tasty toasted sandwiches and small platters, with daily offerings for soups, quiches, personal pizzas, etc.  There's a moderate selection of 8 or 10 bottled beers, a much deeper wine list, sangria and soju cocktails (not throwing down for a full liquor license I guess, but it wouldn't really fit the atmosphere).  The scene is picturesque with the steep hillside, some small outdoor tables with potted plants, and a cable car track wrapping the corner around the cafe.

I found Nook when I moved a block away and it quickly won out the surrounding competition as my local caffeine well.  My drink here is a small double mocha; I like the chocolate sauce they use.  I do think they release their trainee baristas on the public a little too soon; I've definitely seen some of the new faces behind the counter get flustered in a rush and turn out some poor drinks. The old hats of the crew have their barista chops down.  The drip coffee is decent, sometimes a bit on the weak side for my taste and one of the coffees they occasionally brew has an acidic tang that I don't like.  That said, 4 out of 5 foggy mornings rolling down the hill a cup of their coffee on my walk to work hit the spot.

The sandwiches, salads & platters are simple, flavorful, and the ingredients are always fresh.  The staff is friendly, and there is not a lot of turnover so your baristas, servers and cooks become familiar faces.  Not the fastest joint around, but it's not supposed to be.  This is a place to slow down for a sec.  Chat while they make your small double mocha, pull up a seat, get on the wi-fi, get some work done with a glass of wine, and watch the tourists argue which direction is north.

Fast, good food, inexpensive. The major selling point for me is how close it is to my apartment.

I've had the waffle (which comes with strawberries and bananas, nice) and it's good. The french toast looked better, though.

Also a big fan of their ham and fontina sandwich with sage - great flavor.

I've heard good things about the sangria. They have happy hour every day.

Nice neighborhood spot for a quick snack or drink.

What a great neighborhood treat! I've been here on a number of occasions either just dropping in for happy hour, grabbing a casual brunch or even for a friend's going away party (yes you can rent the place out!)

A funny story about the going away party. We couldn't hit the bar minimum because the drinks there are too cheap! The food is all delicious and a great place to drop in for a drink or small bite.

Another cool thing they do is limit their wifi to during the weekdays to keep it a bit lively or available for people to mingle evenings and weekends instead of having every table being occupied with people working away.

During happy hours, 2 glasses of wine and a Latte will only set you back $9.00. I love that they dim the lights and place candles on the tables for a more romantic setting as the evening wears on, but it does make that book you're trying to read a bit difficult to see :-P

The only thing I've ever snacked on here was the bread and cheese plate with fig jam. Its excellent- great walnut bread and a nice trio of cheeses to nibble on for a decent price ($8.50).

The staff is lovely and social, the bathroom is modestly clean, and the rumble of the cable car rolling around the corner-located cafe is San Francisco unique and charming. Perhaps the thing that was a bit off the several times I've come here was the music. For an easy-going coffee shop nestled amongst the trees of Nob Hill, the change up between guy-with-guitar genre, hip hop, and punk was a bit odd and forced me to put my head phones on.

I like Nook a lot and definitely wish I had the occasion to be a regular. If you live in this neighborhood you're probably one, and I'm jealous. If you're not, you're missing out.

Cute local corner neighborhood place to meet for a bite or break.  One can enjoy coffee, tea, sandwich and salad or soup.  Tables inside and outside along storefront.  There is plenty if natural light from the storefront which makes a very cheery and lively atmosphere for customers.  Many were working on their laptops.  I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which was tender and flavorful.  I asked for it on a ciabatta ( sp?) roll which was fresh and soft.  Simply mouthwatering and delicious.  The mixed green salad had light (not diet) vinaigrette  dressing, simply delicious.

The customer service was good.  The lunch and drink came ad expected and timely.  I did not experience anything extraordinary.

I did not have the opportunity to go during happy hour, but since the food is good and they do have specials, I would like to go.

The name could not be more fitting.

My cousin Griselda D and I noticed the Happy Hour sign propped outside, so we decided to escape the cold in this warm little nook on the corner of Hyde & Jackson. Happy hour is every day from 5-7pm and includes: wine ($2.95), sake or soju cocktails ($4), mimosas & bellinis ($4), PBR ($1.50), sangria ($4 or $18 for a pitcher), pita pizza ($4). They also offer free wi-fi until 6pm.

Atop the tables were open newspapers, laptops, lattes and vegan pastries. I took a browse over their menu - they had sandwiches, salads, coffee, bagels and small breakfast items. I decided on vegan cake. They had cherry pie and maple pecan but I opted for the carrot cake. I was surprised at how yummy it was. It was less sweet than fatty, regular cake, but still tasty.

I also tried their sake ginger and soju mint martinis.

As we sat, I noticed the cable cars whizzing by on the corner. The jingle of the cable car bell was strangely soothing. Even though the place is full of conversation, it's very cozy, warm and peaceful. A great find in Nob Hill!

Cute neighborhood place with good coffee, and a pretty decent menu - breakfast items, and an array of lightish eats and sandwiches and a good drink/wine menu.

The shrimp quesadilla had a nice kick, but was made w/flatbread which surprised me. But, as was pointed out to me, their specialty isn't mexican and they serve various hummus dips so it makes sense to keep it all in the family.

The chicken pesto sandwich was excellent and came with a tasty little side salad w/balsamic vinaigrette.

Cons - not too much seating, but that's par for the course for this area.

    Nook is perfectly named.

A tiny little cafe/restaurant, don't expect a seat to always be waiting for you midday (especially with so many internet users).  DO expect delicious food, a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere, and a perfect place for conversation, reading, or whatever your task may be.

My partner and I live in Russian Hill and sometimes just don't want to go to Polk for our coffee or brunch/lunch.  Sitting in this cute little cafe amongst the trees on Hyde Street and watching the cable car go by reminds me why I love San Francisco so much!
