Dont even live anywhere near here, but travel 5 subway stops to come here late night for one thing. One thing I discovered randomly some other late night when I was in this neighborhood.
Veggie Burger.
One of the BEST veggie burgers I have ever had.in.my.life. No idea if theyre making their own, or buy their patties from somewhere else, but I love this thing. I come from Williamsburg when I have cravings for it. Plus its super cheap at like $4-5. I live in Vegan hipster central and there is nowhere, absolutely nowhere to get a veggie burger, let alone one like this. So yea, I think I know where Im going for lunch today...mmmm -

Nonno is open 24/7 and it's the only shop within several blocks of this corner of the West Village. Also good to know is that the nice/opportunistic people who own this place have a pretty good grasp of economics, or at least the laws of supply and demand. And weather. And time.
For their part, they carry an above average *supply* of staples (fruit, vegetables, actual food) and somewhat upscale products (the "upscale products" are mostly organic foods and import beer, cheeses and European candies.) It's clean, spacious and several steps above the dingy corner markets that only sell snacks, lotto tickets and a few bananas at check-out. The *demand* is where you come in. Is it cold, rainy, snowy or two minutes till "last call?" If you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, you will pay ridiculous prices for that which you demand, however, your outrage now takes a backseat to your relief at being able to acquire what you need when and where you need it.
So it's win - win. Well, more like win - sort of win. -

Whenever I visit my friend, who lives right across the street, I make sure to stop into Nonno's at least twice.
It can be reallllllllly pricey (really) but it is by far the best corner store I have ever stepped into.
Nonno's is super vegan friendly and they carry a lot of obscure things you wouldn't find at a normal corner store.
I'm from Philly, so the fact that I can walk in, get candy, some cookies AND a beer is mind blowing.
I will gladly hand over my hard earned paychecks to them. I just wish they weren't a 3 hour train ride away. -

Update: I have to up the stars on this review to a 3, because I've really come to depend on this place. It's open 24/7, and it's been there for me in my random times of need at the oddest hours of the night.
-----------
Nonno Gourmet is a glorified corner market, with its cute space and aisles of Smart Water-esque goods.
The place is definitely *way overpriced* but there's no way for me to avoid going here for late-night or spontaneous runs since it's less than a block from my apartment. Something I find incredibly odd -- especially given the fact that this is really a corner store -- is that they don't itemize your receipt. Instead, they hand you a receipt with just your total on it, and even if you ask for an itemized receipt, all the items just read "grocery." What the heezy? Since when is a corner store too cool to itemize?!? Even Balducci's a few blocks a way itemizes everything!!
Hopefully, I'll find a cheaper place that's also nearby. -

I thought it was very nice of the man behind the counter to warn me that my small packet of organic beef jerky had a double digit retail price before adding it to my tab.

I have my breakfast, and sometimes lunch, here everyday..and some say it shows. This deli / store is just around the corner from my work, and i am in love with it. The staff have turned to hate me and look at me with disgust, but i dont care. It's really odd actually, they used to like me then i started to order bacon on everything and they turned on me. Ordering food here is great, it is so inexpensive and actually very good. The service can sometimes be on the slow end, and waiting is awkward because people are coming and going and there is nowhere for you to stand. The locals do come here to get like triscuits and Windex, but the products are so expensive - come for the food.

This was a good option for my friend and I, since we were staying at the Jane hotel down the block for a week. I walked by a lot but never went in, but my friend went in the middle of the night and came back with a burrito, a Dr. Pepper, and a pint of Ben and Jerry's, and claimed she spent $25. That's outrageous, but I enjoyed eating Mission to Marzipan and watching Grease on VH1 in our hotel room at 3 AM.

Granted, Nonno is convenient for me in a pinch, and they make a mean bacon egg and cheese sandwich that is perfect on a Sunday morning. However, overall, the prices are RIDICULOUS. An emergency can of cat food is double the price of the grocery store just two blocks away. Bagels and rolls change price depending on who is behind the counter. The "fancy" chocolates sit around for so long that three times I've gotten them home to find them grey and crumbly - and double the price of anywhere else. If you absolutely need a corner deli, this place is ok. But if you can hold on for another couple of blocks, you'll save 50% on most items.
