Seal and Heidi Klum are getting divorced. Why? Why God? They have three biological children together! Plus Seal adopted her child from a previous sexual deposit. That Seal is some kinda guy. So let's see...3 plus 1...yep. FOUR kids that miss life's most important moments. Did someone cheat? Say it ain't so!

In times like this, it's important to get a slice of pizza. After all, if a stud like Seal can lose a beauty like Heidi then perhaps KC could lose Mrs. KC! By the way, has there ever been an ugly Heidi? Does Heyzeus just make all Heidis hot? Other than that Heidi Longstocking, KC thinks not.

Back to pizza. When KC saw this bad news on his Twitter feed, he went a little crazy. His first instinct was to seek a kiss from a rose but, no! Pizza is more soothing in trying times. KC pulled the Audi A8 to the curb...but what's this? Three choices!

1.) Papa John's-- KC is not a poor college student seeking a cheap, crappy pizza. NO!

2.) Mamma's Brick Oven-- This place is Brick Horseshit. Been there before. Not good. NO!

3.) Nonna Pizzeria-- KC will try. YES!!

KC ordered two slices. One to mourn Seal and one to mourn Heidi. On the Seal pizza, KC requested sausage and onion. For Heidi, a plain cheese slice. KC ordered a Diet Coke with four lonely ice cubes for the poor children.

The pizza was AWESOME although a little salty but that could have been from the tears slowly cascading down KC's handsome face and onto the slices. Nonna makes a legit NYC style slice. And KC thinks he speaks for us all when he says, we're never gonna survive unless we get a little pizza.

I frequent Mama's Brick Oven pizza a lot so when I heard Nonna was their biggest competitor in quality, taste, and authenticity, AND that they were 1 block away, I HAD TO TRY IT!!

That was a few month ago, and I've eaten a few slices on a few different occasions and both times, the pizza was great! Comparable to NY IMHO. Nice thin crust but not cracker thin, good crispy chewy ratio. I could write about the subtleties between Mama's and Nonna 'til my fingers bleed but for about $3/slice it's easier for you just to try one or the other, or preferably both.

It's a pizza joint, not a fine dining restaurant so don't expect exemplary service, but don't expect crap service either.. It's fine here.. Sometimes they can guide you through the slices, other times they'll remain neutral and let you make a choice. I have to say Mama's Brick Oven Pizza's crew is more friendly and outgoing but to each their own. Both places ROCK in my opinion so you won't feel wronged if you go with either.

If you like NY-style slices, and you're in South Pas, stop in and get a slice.. It's worth it!

Also heard their gelato was good, I'll have to try that next time!

Nonna Pizzeria has some tasty, thin-crusted pizzas that reminded me of pizzas from the east coast. I ordered the Margherita pizza, which was already made on display. I considered having it freshly made instead, but I was already hungry. The food itself was tasty and flavorful regardless.

Parking sucks, so your best bet is to find parking near the residential area.

Overall, I enjoyed having pizza here and would definitely return to try their freshly made pizzas one day.

We ordered a large to go for $9.99, an online offer I noticed. I would have loved to try the other options..they have a fantastic menu.. but the price was right and it was a great way to try their pizza for the frst time. The slices are big and wide, but thin and chewy and DELISCIOUS! The flavors of the sauce, dough, and cheese are just right! I can't wait to go back to try a different pizza, gelato, and some wings :)
TIP: You can spend a little on a slice, or much more on a speciality pizza so whatever your budget, you're set.

I've had pizza all over Pasadena and this is by far the best.  WAY better than Mama's Brick Oven, which really seems to have gone down hill for some reason.  Had the Zi Theresa, the Amore, and the Four Seasons pizzas on the regular and they're all awesome.  And yes, they give you fresh parmesan, peppers, AND they have anchovies and fresh garlic available. Enjoy!

I'm a New yorker and this pizza is good.  I hace yet to find a "real" NY pizza but this place is pretty good.  The Owner/Chef is from Naples and made pizza in Brooklyn for years....you can't get more authentic than that.

Really? This place was such a disappointment. Paper plates, plastic cutlery, poor service. The pizza was so soggy we couldn't pick it up and the garlic bread was raw chunks of garlic on a 6inch cube of dough.  If you want a quick slice on your way somewhere, fine but don't expect much else.

This is delicious pizza! I was born in New York and grew up eating cheese pizza --thin crust with flavorful sauce and cheese. Since moving to the west coast , I haven't found better pizza. The margherita is by far the BEST! The crust is a perfect combination of chewy and crunchy, the sauce tastes home-made,  dollops of fresh mozarella, and topped with fresh basil. Once in a while, it's a little heavy with sauce, but since it's so good, you'll still love it. Best to eat it there when it's hot and crispy.
Owners Rita and Joe are so sweet and I love seeing them work side by side with their daughter Antoinette.... a true mom n' pop place!

The slices of Amore and Margherita were to die for. You get way more spinach on the Amore than you'd expect, but it makes for a great, flavorful, vegetarian option.

Ordered a cannoli, was not impressed...but I'm comparing it to a cannoli I ate in Boston, and I mean that's just not fair. That Bostonian cannoli was like...the standard of all standards, the stuff of food dreams.

The staff was friendly, and they had customers standing around vouching for the place. As soon as I walked in the door, some lady (a customer) chatted me up and suggested I get a calzone because "they're delicious."

Anyways, I was impressed by their Amore so I ordered a slice to go - to gift upon other foodies aka some poor, starving friends. Unfortunately, that slice didn't stand the test of time and reheating. The spinach leaves withered away into a tasteless mush, and yea. I'd say eat in, have them deliver, or bust.

Our go-to place for pizza- we usually get one pizza with half Zi Teresa & the other half Amore.  I usually switch between the Amore and the Vegetarian, and I do like their vegetarian better than Mamma's up the street.  Mamma's is good, too, but the hubby also prefers the pizza at Nonna's.   I suppose it's a little on the pricey side- about $20 for a large, but I prefer it way over the chains like Pizza Hut - it's not even in the same category.

There's actually parking in the back.

We usually just pick it up, so not much to say on service.. although it could be a little friendlier.   So my rating is primarily for the taste. It tastes extra good when you pop it in the toaster oven the next day- you get a little extra crunch, if you like that.

I didn't get a chance to try their margherita pizza that I was totally craving all week.  Their already-made pizzas looked kinda old and dry and not as fresh.  I seriously was debating whether I should get the already made margherita or order a fresh one.

We decided to order the fresh one.  My fiance got some insane idea to order a Sicilian size (larger than X-large) just for the two of us.  Of course, he's a man so he likes meat on his pizza!  We ordered the Zi Teresa (I think that was the name) - that includes sausage, pepperoni, salami, mushrooms, and red onions.  $21.95!!  A little too expensive for pizza, in my opinion.  But the portions were huge!   And I told him I was right - the pizza was too huge for the both of us! =P

Pizza was fresh and pretty good.  Their crust is a little bit like Pizza Hut's but not as oily or deep fried like Pizza Hut.  But it's not Pizza Hut.  It's pretty good.  Cheese was ooey-gooey and had pieces of fresh mozarella!

Service was ok.  They were nice and friendly.

Will have to try Mama's down the street next time!

Great casual ambiance for a casual date night.

Parking - you can park on the street.  Right now, Fair Oaks has a lot of road construction!  There is also a public parking lot for 2 hours free behind Wild Thyme.  You can park there, too.

Overall, not bad.  I would order the fresh made to order pizza over the already made ones.  I will try to come back for their fresh made margherita pizza!

You know... I love Margherita pizzas. I do. It was the first kind of pizza I had in Italy and Nonna's did a wonderful job of reviving that memory. First loves are hard to forget.

So it's too bad that Nonna Pizzeria's margherita pizzas are no longer as wonderful as I remembered them to be. The crust is still thin and crispy but the mozzarella was entirely wanting.

There was a lot of tomato sauce action going on but not mozzarella. If I had ordered a tomato pie, that'd be fine but for a pizza that should showcase it's mozzarella... I'm sad to report...has failed. I also noted that the basil wasn't very fresh either ...and don't you typically top fresh basil on top of the pizza after it's baked?

We did order other items like the pepperoni and stuffed pizza (basically a mashup of two pizzas).... both were okay. The stuffed pizza was really really oily (not wholly unexpected) ... oil was dripping off to the side. Pepperoni pizza wasn't really fresh either (you can tell from the redness of the pepperoni).

    Really good!

Price is a little high but you get what you pay for. We're big fans of the prosciutto/artichoke pizza here. Also, I've had the garlic knows (great). Only bummer about the place isn't their fault: they're just far enough from our place that we need to throw slices in the toaster oven we get home. Totally worth it, though!

Long story short: nice little pizzeria run by an actual Italian.  Good pizza too.

    Long story long:

Now, for years, I have been going up the street to Mamma's Brick Oven pizza.  I really like their pizza and while the prices make it a less than frequent place to go for pizza, it doesn't stop me from going in on occasion.  I have driven by this place for years and years and was wondering if it was any good.  Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine who also lives in the area and told me that she actually likes this better than Mamma's and told me that they actually used to be affiliated, but with any family run business, there sooner or later will be a tiff between them which leads one of them to split off and start their own thing.  I mean, look at Golden Deli and Vietnam House and Vietnam Restaurant.  I don't know the full details, but that's apparently the case.

So yeah, one day I was craving pizza for lunch and decided to mix things up a little so instead of going to Mamma's like I normally would, I hit up Nonna's.

Parking is only on the street, but I managed to find a spot right out front.  Upon walking in, the space is probably a tiny bit bigger than Mamma's.  However, it's a lot cleaner and nicer than Mamma's.  I mean, Mamma's used to be a KFC way back when, so there isn't much to say for it.  Looks like Nonna's might have recently redecorated. Point: Nonna's

The set up is very similar when it comes to pizza by the slice places.  A bunch of pizzas laid out behind glass, you pick out the slices you want and they reheat them for you.  A few of the pizzas looked to be the same but there were a couple that were different as well.  I got 2 slices of marguerita pizza, one slice of cheese, and a slice of spinach, artichoke and sun-dried tomato pizza.  That last one they don't have at Mamma's.  Point: Nonna's

The guy helping me (seemed to be Italian?) was nice enough.  He was a little bit of an older gentleman.  Could've been a wiseguy.  Just saying.  Just like at Mamma's, they have a lunch special where you order 2 slices and get a free drink.  So yes, I had 2 drinks to myself.

I took my pizza home and dug in.  The cheese and marguerita pizza was pretty similar to what they have at Mamma's (I mean, they did used to be affiliated with one another) but the spinach, artichoke and sun-dried tomato pizza definitely stood out.  That was definitely my favorite.  Though, Mamma's has this Buffalo chicken pizza that was pretty good as well.  Point: Nonna's

So... seemingly it appears I like Nonna's a lot more, but probably not as much as my scoring system indicates.  It's a shame this place doesn't get more business.  I think partly because its store front is a little on the "discreet" side and can't really see it that well, not as well as Mamma's.  I would definitely come back though.

Since moving to California from the east coast, I have not come across many pizza places that seem to have good pizza... however, Nonna's is one of two pizza shops that I go to all the time now.

I have probably tried a slice of every pizza they have made and there has not been one kind that I have not liked.  My all time favorite is their sun-dried tomato, artichoke, spinach, mozzarella pizza.... it is SO good.

The slices are huge and they have a great lunch special where you can get two slice and a drink for something like $7 which isn't bad given how much their slices are.

Not only is the pizza awesome, but everyone who works there is very sweet and incredibly nice.

    I love Nonna's!

I love this place. I recommend ordering a whole pie and eating it there, if you have time to wait around and sit, or at least take it home. I think that's a big difference than ordering a slice that's been sitting out. I wouldn't touch that, but that's just me. I've grown to find that I wouldn't have pizza any other way; baked fresh and eaten right away. Their sauce tastes so simple, slightly sweet and just enough spices that it's not overpowering and acidic. And my favorite part; the crust! Thin, crunchy, and has the right bite that it's not too chewy. I didn't care too much for the garlic knots though. The specks of garlic on them tasted burnt, bleh. Otherwise I only come here for pizza whenever I visit the area.

I'm defiantly a fan! With Mama's Brick Oven Pizza next door giving them competition, I would say Nonna has a slight (emphasis on slight) edge with their sauce. So delicious. If you love New York style pizza with the flavors of grandma making it in her oven, you then must try this pie.

    Delicious!

BTW I got the pepperoni, mushroom, FRESH mozzarella and tomatoes... would not have it any other way.

Only reason they didn't get 5 stars was because it was a little pricey... $34 for 1 large pizza & Salad.

Bf and I got their Quattro Stagioni [four seasons] pizza - Tomato sauce, Mozzarella, Prosciutto, Mushrooms, Artichokes, and Olives (medium, which will feed 3-4). What I expected was a regular pizza with the toppings on it. When I opened it though, much to my dismay, 1/4 of the pizza was dedicated to each topping. (1/4 mushrooms, 1/4 artichokes, 1/4 olives, 1/4 prosciutto). However, this pizza turned out to be SO good -- each section had a very distinct flavor to it and the ingredients were all so fresh -- the mushrooms were in a thyme-infused marinade, very reminiscent of the mixed mushroom sandwich at Auntie Em's if anyone's had it, the artichokes in a garlic-infused marinade, the olives very light -- i surprisingly liked this pizza despite not liking olives, and the prosciutto -- OHHH the prosciutto... divine.

my favorite toppings (in order) were: 1) artichoke, 2) prosciutto, 3) mushroom, 4) olive.

this place is very deserving of a 5: great customer service on the phone, authentic (bf was like THE PERSON I'M TALKING TO IS VERY ITALIAN, regarding the person he phoned in the order to), and NOT greasy (take a lesson from this place, Pizza Hut). This definitely ranks as one of the best pizza joints I've been to.

Had to try the Marghereta pizza since it was yelped about so many times. I called in the order over the phone, and the older Italian or Greek  guy took the order. When I came to pick it up a Korean middle aged man worked the cashier. The old Italian looked at me from the back as if he wanted to know if I was receptive to a possible change in ownership. I did find it a little disconcerting. Well anyways, I took the pizza home and can only give it 2.5 stars at best. It was a bit wilted and not as tasty as I had hoped for. I agree with others now that this pizza should best be eaten in the store to get the most taste out of it. The pizza was over-priced in my opinion. Probably will try some other pizza places before coming back here.

Based on other Yelp reviews of Nonna, the people running this place used to run Mamma's just up the street, which I guess makes sense that this place is the grandma where that place is the mamma...I don't know.

Nonna sure has several very tantalizing specialty pizzas on her menu. Having a less than stellar experience with the last 4 x 4 square pizza, the Nonna was skipped over despite the garlic on the pie and opt for the Margherita.

Ordering on a slow Sunday evening made making the pie rather quick, and driving back with a freshly made pie smelled amazing and if I wasn't driving I very well could have started digging in. Once I was actually able to, the Napolitano style pizza was the ideal setting for the basic, yet delicious toppings. The sauce had a hint of sweetness, the basil was fresh and the mozzarella had nice and chew-worthy lumps that I love.

I should make sure to be slightly more adventurous with the pizza selection next time, but with such a good standard at hand, it may be difficult. Either way, I'm sure it should be good.

Okay, let's clear some air, shall we?

This place originally opened with a partner three doors down the street.  When it was there, life was good for all.  Something happened between these partners (which there's no need to divulge here but trust me it was silly) and now there are two similar places where once was one.

The original owners, the family that gave the first place their flavor is now here at Nonna Pizzeria, okay?  Get it?  The money partner got the other place, and it isn't half as good.

Now that we've cleared the air, is this place any good?

Want a cheap pizza?  Call an 800 number.  Want the best pizza in the US?  Go to Eagle Rock and hit Casa Bianca.  Want a damn good pizza, better than the chains, and better than nearly all mom&pops within a 20 mile radius?  Now you get it.

A few tips, though.  Whatever you do, don't order one of their damn slices that been sitting out for more than 2 minutes.  If it looks tired, guess what, it will be tired.  Do you go to SUBWAY and ask for a sandwich they made 10 minutes ago?  No?  Then why OH why would you settle for last hour's pizza?

If pizza's not your bag, order an eggplant parm.  If you're not Italian, you'll discover the way it's meant to be made.  Not a frozen piece of sh!t thrown in a deep fry with sauce dumped on top.  Freshly made, moist eggplant parm.  Most fine Italian restaurants f#ck this up, and yet Nonna makes this labor intensive classic with love and panache.

Sure, their piped in pop rock used to be painful, and now they've replaced it with a TV playing Entertainment Tonight.  (Ouch!)  Just feel free to tell them to either find a better channel or just turn that crap off.

I'm posting this hoping they'll see this.

    :-)

Oh, and if you're watching carbs, ask them to make the pizza real thin.  They will, and it's still real good.  The Margherita is worth the trip alone.

Avoid Mamma's and stick with Nonna's.  Great pizza-totally authentic.  Closed on Sundays, which is a big bummer.  Especially considering it's football season and a girl + football+ pizza is a good time for all.

the Nonna family originally owned Mamma's Brick Oven just up the street.  They spent a year there and apparently had been wronged and ousted  by their landlords not long after their lease was up.  the landlords kept the name, and re-recipe'd the menu, and kicked the OG Mamma family to the curb.
not long after, the OG Mamma's BO  daughter opened Nonna's, and since then they've been kicken' ass AGAIN.  unfortunately, lawsuits have been in action and Nonna's is no longer allowed to deliver in the South Pasadena area.  Carry out only from now on.  but they're still fightin' the man.  Viva la Pizza Revolucion, i say.

**update**   despite all this (mis)information  (thanks sue!)  i have still found that i have received more memorable service and better quality food here at Nonna's.

Sadly, not much has improved between the time I wrote my first review and all of the times I've come back since.

Last night I had the pizza roll - and it was just nasty. I couldn't finish it, and i was starving. Wound up throwing it away when the guy wasn't looking.

Still decent slice of regular pizza though - especially if you don't want to venture out of south Pasadena.

First time I tried to come here, it was closed. Second time I tried to come here, it was full of Asian kids moseying all over the place so we left. Third time we came here, we actually ate.

The pizza was pretty good. A thin crust and delicious toppings. I only got 2 slices so I was still hungry. We ordered some garlic knots which I thought were pretty bad. They weren't even knots actually and tasted bland. Then they gave us some free pastry thing, (Italian doughnuts?) which was some fried thing with powered sugar. It was a really nice gesture but to be honest they were really bland too.

    Stick with just the pizza.

They also sell some random goodies like chocolates and wafers an such but they aren't homemade or anything.

Same old NY pizza on the counter, same old faces (and attitude) behind the counter. Only other place to find better pizza is in NY.
When I order sausages on my pizza, I want real sliced italian sausages. Although it's not on the menu, they will gladly slice some up and top it on your perfectly baked pizza.
Normally, the same pizza would require a JetBlue flight to JFK.

Try their margarita pie too... 's nice~

Their pizzas are truly excellent ! Calling in and go to pick up 20 minutes later is definitely the best strategy. There are plenty of tables if you want eat there. It's not easy to find a place offering good quality pizzas. Nonna however truly delivers!
My favorite is the "Zi Teresa", which has everything on it ! Yammy...

I like how everyone is a pizza expert. New York style, Chicago, deep dish, thin crust ect... I don't go to other cities and complain that there Mexican food doesn't compare to that of Los Angeles. You can only judge a place for itself.

I recently come to Nonna because I had been craving pizza for a few days but I didn't want a whole pie just a slice or two. I showed up just before closing and even though I could tell everyone was ready to go home the two ladies working were friendly and welcoming. I got the sausage and beef pizza which I thought was great and a slice of pepperoni. I like my pepperoni a little spicier but it was still a good slice of pizza.

This place is clean, welcoming, you can get pizza by the slice which is always a bonus in my book. In case you want dessert they also have gelato (I haven't tried it yet). There are lots of local pizza places if you get a chance check out Nonna.  I wish I could give .5 stars because I would give it 3.5 stars.

Ok, I was born in Trenton, New Jersey in a east coast pizza loving family.  NY pizza, I love it.  My family loves it.
Since moving west, I've never been able to figure out why no one can make a good NY pizza here.  I mean even Florida has great NY pizza.
Well folks, this pizza is the closest you're going to find on the west coast.
Delicious, thin crust.  Sweet, red, velvety tomato sauce.  Mmmmm, cheesy cheese.
Order a whole pie, for there or to go.  It gets my stamp of approval.

Best pizza that I've been able to find in the LA area.  I'm somewhat of a pizza snob, and have been searching for some good pizza for years.  These guys know pizza;  Crust is perfect;  toppings are fresh;  and so much flavor.  Plus, they sell by the slice.

It's family run;  staff are really friendly and have gotten to know my family and friends (we come here often).  Many times, they are not very busy; which is a surprise.  I just wish they had beer; would be perfect with their pizza.

First let me say I have no vested interest in the little pizza wars, I ate in the old Mamma's when it was run by the family that now runs Nonna's and it was always very good. The fact that they sold the business and then opened the same type of restaurant  two blocks away is pretty despicable but then this is a free enterprise market so all's fair in love and war I guess.

The strange part is that the quality didn't follow them down the street. I've been to NY dozens of times on business over the years and had lots of their pizza, let me assure you this really isn't anything like it. It's thin crust and that's about it. There's a reason why this place is always empty, and it's not because the food is authentic and fantastic. I'm not sure why it isn't better, the owners certainly have the experience and pedigree but it's just lackluster. As a note, I've only eaten here two times, so my experience is somewhat limited but it's been exactly the same both trips so I doubt I'm just coming on a bad day. I really don't plan on coming back for a third try so this will have to do.

Hours here are also very strange, they really don't seem to be open that much. Ambience is just like every other pizza parlor, not very enticing. Service was fine, they were nice and friendly. Overall, it seems like karma has spoken in the Spas pizza wars as i've never seen more than a couple of people in the place.

    Food - B
    Ambience - C
    Service - B
    Value - C

Mmm!  Nonna knows how to do it better than Mamma!

Grampa LOVES pizza. It's one of the only non-Chinesey things that he'll eat. (i think he'll eat a hot dog if he has to, but normally we don't force hot dogs on him).

Anyway, I got the large Zi Nonna from here.  Wow! I was impressed.  I'm normally not impressed by pizza places and don't venture out too often any more as a result of all the disappointments, but Nonna's pizza was super delish!

As others have mentioned, it's New Yorky and not Italian-y.  The crust is thin, the sauce sweet, pungent, and flavorful, and the toppings sufficient for what the pizza can hold.

Tip: use a http://restaurant.com certificate and you'll save half your check..
Note: If you do, it works for take out, too, not just for dine-in, as a staff member told me.

I'll definitely be back.  Nonna kicks Pizza Hut's ass!

You know, its sad: A business needs people to give them at least one chance if they will ever survive, and well, I gave 2.

I've walked in here hungry twice and walked out empty handed both times because of the rude/wierd behavior of the matronly woman behind the counter. With 6 places to get pizza on Fair Oaks, I am NEVER walking into that place again.
