8 reviews for Nonantum Resort the
Charming, turn-of-the-century (not this recent century, of course) New England lodging in equally charming Kennebunkport. The grounds were well maintained and the facilities were nice relative to the age and style of that era. The Nonantum is situated right on the Kennebunk River, so grab a seat on one of the adirondack chairs along the water and watch the sunset over the river as the boats go by.
I don't think the food in the restaurant was, however, as stellar as the rest of the grounds. Not bad, but not great. The service, on the other hand, was quite friendly and helpful.

The GF and I have stayed here twice now and always have a great time. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We like it cause they have quiet hours from 11pm to 7am, which we never really had a problem with falling asleep after stuffing ourselves with lobster dinners.
The resort is located on a quiet stretch of Ocean Ave along the Kennebunk river that separates Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. The resort is big with two buildings. We have only ever stayed in the rooms in the second building facing the river. These rooms are nice, some with jacuzzi tubs and I think all come with fireplaces. The view is really nice.
Breakfast was included with the room so that is a nice option if you don't want to eat out first thing in the morning. The stroll to town is only 1/2 a mile where there are many dining options. If you walk the opposite way from town you will pass some lovely homes and nice stopping points to sit along the Atlantic Ocean and catch the views.
We usually sit out and watch the sunset or picnic at this time at the resort on the Adirondack chairs that line the edge of the property along the river above the docks. Sometimes there's a wedding going on and last time there was even the PROM for a local highschool. You definitely get to meet some fun people while staying here.
Looking forward to many returns to the Nonatum.

Everyone should know that the staff was very very nice. They were helpful, caring and polite. Really wonderful people.
However, either I got a bad room or people who like this place don't travel much.
The trip to the room: They have a very old elevator which needs one of the staff to operate on the way up. Yet, if you want to go downstairs you take the stairs. Yup...for $300 a night you have a fourth floor walk. Once you get out of the elevator, there are pipes everywhere! Running along the ceiling, going up the walls. All of them exposed - almost like the inside of a factory.
The room: The mattress was really old. I felt the metal springs poking at me. It sucked. The room was so bare-bones that the beds didn't have bed skirts and the bedding looked as old as the building. Oh, for heat, they had a fireplace contraption that looks like it was won on the "price-is-right" in the early 70s. Extremely tacky. Speaking of very old things, the TV had a tiny screen, was very bulky, and most of the channels weren't clear. The bathroom was clearly designed using anything that was on clearance at home depot. Honestly, the YMCA has better showers.
The grand finale: I'm laying in bed reading when all of a sudden there is banging on the walls and ceiling. The banging was so hard that the lampshade was shaking when it stopped. Five minutes later, the security came to tell me about complaints of noise coming from my room. When I showed them that it was not me, the security said that the building is haunted and sometime the ghosts "act up" and "do things like that." Personally, I didn't mind the ghosts, I just would've liked a little heads-up.
Bottom line: I hope all the other rooms aren't like the one I stayed in.
This place is the real thing when you want a five-star lodging experience. No, it's not an order-everything-at-all-hours type of chain hotel, but a remnant of the 1900s resorts, where the beds are four-poster antiques that are practically four feet high, and you have honest-to-goodness furniture that would probably fetch hundreds of dollars at auction.
Hardwood floors were covered in oriental rugs, there was a whirlpool/jet spa, and framed artwork--_real artwork_hung on the walls. Not one aspect is generic, from the glass dining room to the antique elevator that still requires a doorman to operate. They have a wide porch perfect for sitting and taking in the evening sun; if you ever want to leave your suite that is. This is a beautiful place, with beautiful river views and a uniquely old-world touch of class.

Wifey and I decided to take a "baby moon". If you have never heard of that term, do not worry about it. It is suppose to be your last get away before the baby arrives. We decided on Kennybunkport when wifey received an email for this great deal. We paid $125 a night. Which included breakfast, a free trolley ticket, a free lobster trapping ticket, and a $20 coupon dinner at 95 Ocean. That is the hotel on site. The Nonantum is a great place to stay. The rooms have been remolded. I am talking about flat screen TV in your room. I like that. We got room service our first day. And it was the girl that checked us in deliver our food. The rooms were really nice. Straight out of a crate and barrel magazine. The breakfast buffet was very good. Sunday was even better because they were making omelets and waffles. If you need a hotel in this area, I would stay here. Couple of other things. I left a piece of jewelry and the staffed mailed it back to me. The only disappointing was I could not go Lobster trapping due to the weather,
I went to a wedding reception here. They did a great job and deserve 5 stars. Food was really good (none of that "wedding chicken" this time!) and everything about the place was close to perfect. The only problems were little things, like plenty of cheese but not enough crackers, and a confusing parking situation. To me, that means there were no problems. I have no idea what it would be like to stay here, but the other reviews make it sound really nice.

I stayed here for a meeting that was taking place at the resort. Its a beautiful, quaint little resort with really helpful people and offers a very relaxed environment. The resort has an old world feel to it and is the perfect place to getaway from the city for a weekend. The rooms were a nice size and were well kept. I had a corner room and if you reserve early enough, I would highly recommend asking for the corner room (Rm 226, 326 or 426). The room had a jacuzzi and very large windows overlooking the river.
They don't offer room service but they do have a restaurant on site. I didn't go into town but it was a short walk from shops and restaurants.
We happened to be in Kennebunkport on a road trip when we decided we were done driving for the night. We started calling random hotels from our GPS and someone referred us to The Nonantum Resort. They happened to be having a special that night. Our waterview king size room was $149. They have a pool, super comfy beds, really nice and clean rooms, and an amazing breakfast buffet. I wanted to stay longer, but had to keep driving.
